    How simple, straight forward, basic and down to earth is this video, thank you tenfold. I've looked at so many so called HP soaping for beginners that have been a complete turn off. Please continue keeping it simple, it's refreshing.

    I hot process exclusively and it's always interesting to see how differently people do it. Mine never separates and goes straight to vaseline stage, unless I use milks. I also never stir till the end and turn off the crock pot once a third of the soap batter gelled and let the rest of the heat cook it. My soap is very fluid with this technique and I can pretty much pour it into the mold.

      Wow I'd love to see a video of that. My original recipe, when I was first learning, I didn't have to stir it down. I let it cook for about 1.25 hours and it was at the Vaseline stage and I had to plop it into the mold. Once I started adding additional oils, not sure which one cased it, I then had to stir it down every 10 minutes or it would 'boil' over.

      Search for "how to make hot process soap" and "A faster way to make hp soap" by Elizabeth Lemp here on TH-cam. She does it very similar to the way I do it. I never have issues with it boiling over and I don't have to constantly watch it. My soap turns out very moist also.

I freeze it and add to lye is that ok. I do my pumpkin and it works great. I never thought about after lye. Thank you I will try the coloring I like that! Yeah I am so happy you did this. I'm just curious when doing the hot process soap can you add sodium lactate to the recipe? I hear the sodium lactate makes the hot process soap work better for pouring into the silicone molds instead of the log (wood) mold? And at what step if you do add? Thank you for all your help. And will you be doing a video on how to use sodium lactate in hot process too?

    I just started making soap. Love your videos very informative. I have a question. I have ideas for my own recipes. I have just 1 question. How do I figure out how much of each oil I need. For instance the recipe you are doing here. How did you know how much Olive oil vs Castor vs Coconut oil to use.

    • @jayboyce9182
      @jayboyce9182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look to the right of the recipe it has percentage rates for each oil. You plug that in to soap calc along with the size of you batch. The soap calc does the rest.

    Is the difference between cold process and hot process in the fact that you can use the soap right away with hot process, as opposed to waiting 4-6 weeks with the cold?

    • @xachary09
      @xachary09 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes when you hot process you cook the soap and evaporate enough water to use it after 24hours and cutting it right away. It is better to wait 4days to a week if you want a harder bar. Hope this helps you.

    I see that part of the safety equipment is a mask. Question: Can people with respiratory diseases (such as asthma, COPD) make either the HP or CP soaps safely? And if so, what type of mask would be worn during the process?

    • @RNDiva33
      @RNDiva33 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You get an industrial type mask you should be fine or if you have any friends that work at the hospital a N95 mask is good as well but find someone who does like construction. My friend has asthma as well he does construction.

    I was wondering why you aren't suppose to add water to lye?

    • @mithramusic5909
      @mithramusic5909 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lye reacts with water. When you're adding lye to water, the reaction is more mild. Adding water to lye can make a very violent reaction which can fizz and boil right out of your container. A very hot and dangerous caustic volcano of lye solution foaming and pouring all over your counter while giving off rough chemical fumes is not a fun thing to have going on in your kitchen, I promise!

  • @LoneWelshDruid

    So what's the difference between hp and cp in the final product?

    • @TessieDobey
      @TessieDobey 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the final product, mostly is the look and you can use hp soap as soon as it cool and unmolded, whereas cp soap you cannot use it for six to 8 weeks.

    • @KaliMahalo
      @KaliMahalo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe she meant in HP soap you can use it as soon as it's cool and unmolded but in COLD PROCESS (CP not HP) you need to cure it to harden it as well as neutralize the lye.

  • @Yasmine1962

    I'm confused about how long it takes to 'cook' this recipe. According to the video the soap was done after 1hour(15-20minutes for separation phase stage, 15-20 minutes for apple sauce phase and 15-20 minutes for Vaseline phase). This differs from other sources that indicate a longer time of 2-3 hrs. Please clarify

    I would like to thank you for your classes! I have watched (and study) them for two months before I was able to make my first real (not melt & pour) soap. I was much more interested in HP then CP. So I first started with HP and I have now made 5 patches of HP and 4 patches of CP.
    My first batch was a HP Lavender & Honey and instead of adding Coco or Shea I had Cupuacu Butter. Turned out Awesome!!!! Thanks to your classes.
    My first CP patch was your Avocuco Soap. It will not be ready until Sept. 26.
    This got me going in a whirlwind... I made a CP Carrot & Cucumber Soap (keeping true to the Avocuco method), a CP Coconut Milk Soap; very white may I add. I even made a CP Echinacea Tea & Aloe soap.
    I guess what I'm trying to say is; Thanks for setting a fire under my butt.
    Hugs & Kisses

      Mohammed Iqubal MP HP is ready to use immediately. It doesn’t need to cure but it still is better to let HP sit for a few weeks to harden. Also because all of the fats are saponified while cooking your super fats will retain their properties. In CP the bar is continuing to saponifying the fats while they are sitting or curing and you just don’t know what oils if any are left from the super-fat. That’s what I think anyway. I hope I explained that. There might be a video here that explains the differences better than I.

    Thank you so much for your detailed instructions. These videos are invaluable to beginners. This video helped me make my first successful hp batch with a rich lovely lather. I did modify it jist a tad by adding after saponification 2 ice cubes of goat's milk and .6 oz cocoa butter and found that it is alittle soft after 24 hrs. Is that normal or can I expect it to harden more as it has more dry time?

    You know what I don't understand? Why is it that you only calculate the oils when determining the weight of your soap when you'll be adding the lye water to the oils? The lye will change the molecular structure of the oils through saponification but the weight of the water remains the same, does it not? Or is it that during the saponification process the weight of the oils and lye water changes... becomes lighter? I'm thinking "scientifically" here.

    First, I love your videos. I've learned and used a lot of your information so far, which leads me to this. I have tried twice to make hot process in the crock pot. My first batch turned into a glumpy mess and then hit the "Vaseline" stage, I molded it and it came out really nice, but my second batch I used about half of the amount of ingredients as I was just trying a new scent. This never went through any of the stages, it was like oatmeal the whole time. I again just molded it to see what would happen, and it seems to have come out fine, but I worry because it isn't doing any of the things in your video. Any thoughts? I'd really appreciate your feedback, I don't want to waste an ounce of this stuff! Thanks you so much!

      Hot process doesn't always follow all of the phases of soapmaking. Sometimes a phase goes by so quickly that you don't even see it unless you're staring at the pot the entire time, and sometimes you skip phases entirely, and sometimes you're stuck on one phase almost the whole time. The important thing is recognizing the ending phase, and making sure your soap passes the tongue-zap test.

    nice video, i m attempting to hot process today, i have always used CP for years, so itoday im braving the seaven seas of HP soap making. I have 1 question though, just about every video i have seen on HP on youtube, the hobbyist throws in a chunk of superfat after the saponification is completed. SO my Big question is how much superfat do i add at the end?
    all of the lye and fragrance cals i use do have superfatting levels usually 5% - I USUALLY GO 6% BUT NOTHING IS MENTIONED about putting a chunk in later. is this a tip ? please explain, thanks!!

    Thank you for your videos,I started about 2 yesterday ago with your cp soap videos which helped me so much,,but I was just feeling I didn't want to wait the 4 weeks to cure so I have been making less soap,,maybe the way I do things but I was using so many different bowels spoons it got tiring getting everything out,I don't have a specific area in my home to just do soap,,so I have been contemplating HP soap,,I'm doing my first one as I write this watching your video,and have to say less bowels and less works for me even though It seems the same process I'm liking this HP better,,,Thank you again fir making my life so much easier,,

    to soaping101.com my questions are . I was making this last night I doubled the recipe.I use distilled ice water plus basin ice water under the lye water the temperature never went passed 86. AS I LEFT IT SITTING AFTER WATER WAS clear. It never fumed up on me .I used all protected gear .I had to heat the basin water up to get the temp to rise up. then the oil temp was 138 taking to long to drop took some oil out n put it in my freezer 5-10 mins. well when both temps lye water was 112 oil 114 I started to get it to trace . meanwhile no fuming during this process .I had mask n eye wear off but still my gloves n long sleeve sweater.after that left it on low to cook 20 min I was in out my room n the fumes was unreal. No one ever said on any tutorial that this would or could happen . Every1 has always said It would fume during water n lye mix. I go so sick couldn't breathe opened my room window up .I had to clean up my mess in out my room my face, eyes throat nose felt like it was on fire. It was hard to breathe my lungs felt like they was going to explode throat burning and stomach also disturbed nausea. I turned it off after I stirred it again butcouldn't take the fumes unplugged it took the cock pot put it on my balcony and I went to ER was there for 4 hrs. sent home I still feel some buring in nose n stomach. The batch is still on my balcony can this batch be salvaged and did I do anything wrong by heating lye water back up with hot water in basin under lye water , and cooling 1/4 of the oil in the freezer to cool oil down.Please I need help I've in vested $400.00 buying all these supplies to make soap. Help thank you Nancy

    *Faith Win* I couldn't find the reply option on your comment so I'm replying here. Soaping101's Bastile recipe is 5% super fatted. You do not have to add cocoa butter, for example. The superfat in that recipe comes from the regular oils. Just add them all in the beginning to melt and proceed per the video, skipping the part where Teach adds the cocoa butter.

    Please tell me what is the difference between "Fluid Hot processing" and "Hot Processing"?
    Thank you, I really enjoy your videos. I especially enjoyed the way you tricked me with using whole lemons,in one of your videos that was pretty clever.
