    You hear many people talking bad about Thai women. Some of the things they say are true but most are not. Many Farang have challenges because of the type of women they get into relationships with. Up until the last few years there were limited ways to meet Thai women except by going to where some could speak some English. Unfortunately those places weren’t necessarily conducive to finding the perfect long term partners.
    But things have changed. With social networking sites and internet dating sites more young, educated Thai women are now able to meet Farang without the social stigma of talking to unknown Farang strangers in public.
    Well a researcher has seen this trend become more popular lately and decided to do a study about it. Here were her results and comments on the topic.

    My Thai GF is younger than me, university educated, has a career with the Thai government as an IT manager, owns her own home and car and has never asked me for a dime... We are together because we care for each other, no more, no less... We respect each other's cultures and values, while enjoying the differences...

      99% of foreigners and thai women are with bar girls and prostitutes. Most local thais know this and many Westerners know this as well.

    I'm glad you did this one, JC. We have already discussed this in the forum. For the non members, I'll throw in a bit more feedback. It isn't just the young Thai women who are appealing. As an older man, I appreciate a woman closer to my own age. My Thai wife is in her mid 50s (but appears much younger) and is very well educated. For the most part, a lot of the negative stereotypes come from older Farangs who hooked up with young Thai hotties without giving consideration to the fact that, at some point, something more than appearance was going to come into play. When the infatuation wears off, there is no content left and, in many cases, the couples didn't even really like each other. There are a lot of older, attractive, educated, independent women in Thailand who, from a Thai man's perspective, have missed the boat. Many of my wife's friends devoted themselves to careers in health care or other professional occupations. Now that they have reached middle age, Thai men are no longer interested in them. They are also quite independent, which may also not be suitable for Thai men. I would endorse many of these women for relationships with a decent guy.

      Jim Yerardi To clarify for this writer: would you please put numbers on a what you classify as middle age? I am very curious to know that which you refer to. Thanks for your comments; it's an interesting perspective.

      My wife and I are both in our 50s. We know several other couples who are mixed (Farang/Thai). My personal observation is that those who are closer in age seem to be living a more fulfilling life. Those who have a much older man in a relationship with a significantly younger woman have not had the best long term relationships.

    • @michelangelobuonarroti3752
      @michelangelobuonarroti3752 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the perspective but if you would please: What is the age range you are referring to for Thai women that fit the category of middle age. Just 2 numbers is all I need.

    • @Lung_Jim...Farang_Bannok
      @Lung_Jim...Farang_Bannok 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michelangelo Buonarroti Anywhere from the 40s and 50s are specifically who I am referring to. I am friends with quite a few single women in this age range who are quite successful.

      40 thru and including 59. Appreciate it very much. Thank you. Exactly what is truly appealing. Mature but with plenty of life (and fun) remaining in their lives. Just like this writer. Cheers!

      +Hanan Kuehnle In all cultures there are good and bad men and women. Thailand or any other Asian country is no exception. I think the challenge many have is the values of the opposite sex that they seem to have nothing in common with in their own country any more.

      Retirecheap Btw....I love watching your videos!!!In february I am seriously thinking about coming over to "Chiang Mai"and doing a "TEFL"program teaching certificate course as well as studying the thai language.I've just recently spent six years living in south america(Peru!)while teaching esl and now I am wanting to be in a different part of the world.When I was in Peru,everybody told me...."Gringo,you're going to meet so many women..blah,blah,blah!"...Well,I did met many women but,I must say that I met many bad women that were interested in the following!!!Money and the possibilty to easily come back to the states etc.I would imagine that Thailand would not be any different???One thing is for sure,I am coming to experience a new culture and to learn to cook great thai food ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!I am good with languages due to the fact that I speak six myself and now I want to learn something unique like the tonal thai language!!!I am particulary not interested in meeting women there mainly because,I think I know exactly what the scenario is going to be like!Very similar to Peru,I am sure?On top of that,at least in Peru I spoke good fluent spanish but,in Thailand until I get a command of the language..."How would I even attempt to approach women there?"...I have nothing against western/american womren!!!Look a "B-tch/wh-re"is a "B-tch/wh-re"no matter what nationality she is......greek,american,thai or peruvian!You can find them worldwide!!!I plan to stay several years in Thailand but,I personaly don't ever see myeslf in a relationship with any thai woman because,I saw for my own personal experience what it was like in a developing third world country!!!Love your vidoes!!!..."Chiang Mai"seems like a nice place to live and work!Reminds me of the Peruvian jungle of Pulcalpa and Iquitos!!!...

    • @EscapetoThailand
      @EscapetoThailand  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Hanan Kuehnle Nope things have changed here. Most women really don't need a gringo ..oops... Farang. They have money to get by on their own with the latest iPhone and even cars. But many of those educated ones are too old for Thai men to appreciate and seen as past their prime. So if you are patient and learn the language and socialize with educated women with good jobs you will have no problems. But as being part of the "family" their will be some expectations and obligations just like there are for the rest of the family members.

    as a younger expat living in Cha-am for about two years, I have to say that it is quite hard to find an educated woman here. There are not that many options for work around Cha-am for educated women and most of them are much better off going to work somewhere else (Bangkok, Hua Hin or other locations) instead of staying in Cha-am.
    so they leave.
    as I don't drink or care for bars, my two options left are markets or to meet them at their work somehow. you never see locals on the beach as they don't care about it.
    2 years here and I never had a local girl approach me, not once.

    Hi JC. Very interesting video. I am still working in the USA and my goal was to retire and travel to Thailand or the Philippines. However, I recently met a very nice Thai lady, here in the USA, who is very much like the type lady you described in this video. She is here on a work visa, age 49 (I am 63), middle class, educated, light color skin, slim, and very very nice. She also made it clear that she is looking for a relationship with an American. We met on a dating site, clicked immediately, and have both deleted our dating site profiles. She doesn't ask for money and is the most caring, loving, affectionate, person I have ever met. We go to church together and enjoy the same things and I can't say enough good things about her. However, I am being cautious because of a previous relationship, with a Latina, that tried her best to get as much from me as she could. She wants to stay and work here a bit longer, but eventually return to her home in Chiang Mai, where she has family, a home, car, etc. Because there is a restriction, regarding the work visa, she cannot return to the USA if she leaves this country, so this is preventing us traveling back to Thailand for now. Just curious about your thoughts on this. Thanks, John

      @EscapetoThailand  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats John. All I will say is write down all your rules regarding a relationship with anybody else and stick to those rules and avoid a scarcity mentality and all will proceed naturally one way or another.

    • @prfolkler
      @prfolkler 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John S, my advice is GO for it! Get to know her better. Treat her well and see what happens. Retiring to Thailand can be done from $200 per month on up.
      My studio apartment costs me 100 usd per month and utilities electric, water, etc another hundred (in the hottest part of the year).
      My wife cooks, mostly so food is so cheap you would not believe me. When we go out to eat, 3 or 4 times a week we eat at local establishments so 2 nights ago dinner costed 250 thb with tip. The establishment owner is becoming a friend as we go there often and his son is waiter/bus boy/cook in training.... And I always tip the boy well. Can't help it, he works so hard I would feel guilty otherwise. This was dinner for two.
      So I spend $300 a month to live I would be surprised. Yes I spend more than that, when you have more than a subsistence income you tend to upgrade your life.
      My point is, if you are a little frugal and do not live in a tourist mecca life here is very inexpensive.
      Chaing Mai is more expensive as far as I understand it, but even if it is TWICE as much... IE 600 a month, you stil can't beat it.
      I lived in Asia for over 5 years and traveled for 10+ I spent a lot of time in the Philippines.. And I would not risk it. There are some very nice filipina but it is hard to find out the deeper issues. At least I found it so.
      Stick with your Thai GF. She sounds great and probably is.

  • @prfolkler

    First this is a very great video. I only have one complaint... and it is very common complaint of mine. My Thai wife is young, educated and a medical professional. Basically a middle class girl from a conservative family.
    Her history is typical... Multiyear relationship with a Thai man... Who from early on was cheating on her. When she found out, bless her... She turned her back on all the plans they had made refusing to accept his excuses.
    No fights, no drama just goodbye. Then shed tears at home. After a time... Looking for what she can do... But she did not want the same thing again.
    Many many times I have heard Thai men talk about having a GF on the side... When they have a good wife who works hard for the family.
    Thai women are very very practical in their intelligence. They want a stable home after marriage. They need a man who while the head of the household, listens to; her and defers to her when she is right. A calm friendly man who she can depend on as HER man.
    The demand Love, kindness and fidelity. Everything else we can work out together... Obviously i am over simplifying. But the lack of fidelity by Thai men is why we farang are so valued by the middle class educated conservative women.
    I joke with her that I need to be careful... or the King will have me arrested for stealing one of the crown Jewels...
    That is how I see her and how I treat her... Because she deserves it.
    Every time I up my game and show her more love.. the ROI is immense. She has never had the attitude of .. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?
    Perhaps my experience is unique but I don't think so.Her expectations of me were clear enough from the geti go... but I had to pay attention to see them. That is how I won her heart.

    • @EscapetoThailand
      @EscapetoThailand  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This isn't exclusive to Thai men. You just need to look at the history of Asian and Latin societies. Monogamy hasn't been one of their strong suits. Always try and look at things from outside of the Western set of eyes and you'll see things a lot differently. Doesn't mean those things are good or bad because those are just judgments from our own point of views. What you are doing is fulfilling needs that are not being fulfilled from within their own society which gives you a great opportunity.

  • @realpropertymangement7640
    @realpropertymangement7640 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for conveying that societal analysis. I'm now retired from an international profession, so have a fairly good grasp of favorable locations around the globe, from a societal, political, cultural and financial perspective. Contemplating a spot to settle down where my outlay will provide me the most comfortable, interesting, safe and stable lifestyle. Thailand checks a lot of boxes for me. As with many potential farangs, I'm also interested in finding my last love. So this study is encouraging. I'd very much like to find a beautiful, intelligent woman who is financially capable and still possesses "traditional" values. Lol... aim for the moon! 😉

    another great video JC. I have to agree with your synopsis on this subject matter. My girlfriend is from Don Mueng and she is very wealthy (owns her own business). She accepts zero money from me and it is more a matter of the heart. I have been back and forth to thailand about 14 times in the past 2 years and feel i have a pretty good understanding of the culture now. I do not drink and never go to any of the typical ex-pat sites. You will most likely find me hanging around with the regular thai's. I met my girlfriend after my first thai girlfriend's relationship went south (and thank god it did). My girlfriend is fantastic and we talk every morning and night. I actually just got back from thailand about a week ago and lived at her house and made some trips down to Sichon with her and the kids. My thai is getting progressively better each day as we tend to feed off of each others conversations. I plan on moving to thailand next year permanently and i'm looking forward to this next chapter in my book of life. One thing i really would like to see you mention in one of your video's is when a thai woman says "i want you to take care of me and my family". To a foreigner when they hear this it is more of a matter of making sure she is happy where to a thai it literally means "take care of my family and their financial needs"..this is a huge difference. Last but not least my advice to anyone going to thailand is DO NOT fall in love with the first girl you meet. I made that mistake and chalk it up to a life experience. I do not regret anything with my first girlfriend, but in hindsight i wish i had taken my time..but again if that didn't happen i would never have met my current girlfriend (which we plan on marrying next year). Also i would like to say that if you just like your girl but not the culture then maybe it isn't for you. I love everything about thailand..the food..the culture..the weather (and it get's hot!!)..but most definately i love the people. I know of some who had not treated me fairly, but that is the smallest minority (maybe 1%)..but for the most part (especially if my girl is there) they reflect the respect you show them back on you. Once i get there permanently i'll be sure to look you up and treat you to a coffee.

      jim nichols I wouldn't be as concerned about getting mugged as I would be about taking a header off of the motorbike. It isn't a matter of if you will crash, it is a matter of when and how bad. I think that pretty much every farang that I know who rides a motorbike over there has layed it down at some point. Also, there are inexpensive health care plans that could be purchased there.

    Some of the Thai ladies that one can meet in a Thai bar, may have come from poor farming families. The salary she earns may support her farming family. In a place where females have been oppressed by poverty, and cultural issues, it can be common to see very old men with very young women. It is accepted in Thailand. Here, in the States, a man would be arrested for being a pedophile.

    I'm friends with a school teacher and therefore college educated and 32 years old. I get a good morning every day, great conversations, she is constantly sending pictures, she asks me if I ate all the time and if I ate enough. So very strange. They are out there for sure. She is from the Isaan area and very much unlike other ladies from other provinces. She truly wants to learn about my culture and way of life. She has never asked me what I do for work or the home with which I live. They aren't all bar girls for sure. She has a lighter skin and really is pretty. She does have a child which puts her in a bad light with Thai men. Thai men often leave their girl after getting them pregnant and few help with child support and they drink like fish. There are some wonderful traditional ladies out there that would make for a wonderful relationship. I met her on Thai Friendly.

    I can attest to what JC is saying... I met a university educated Thai lady who has worked for the Thai government for more than 20 years... She is considered "hiso" in Thai society as she is upper middle class by Thai standards... We have now been together for more than 5 years and it's the best relationship that I have ever had... I do live in Thailand, so no long distance relationships... They never work IMHO...

    Good video. I did have a smile on my face hearing the "stats". Successful women usually want to find a man at their level of success or higher, usually men don't really care for that, we find a woman and we don't care whether she cleans toilets or is a CEO of a Bank. Success is often measured by how much money you make or have. One would think if successful women are really interest in love and not money, then why don't they marry a Thai? I still hold to my belief that it is still a money thing. In this research, who are these successful women marrying? Professional Farangs? or regular Joes? There are always a two side to every story too, maybe successful Farang is looking for a successful Thai woman in order to eliminate some of the suspicion that is only about money.

    • @prfolkler
      @prfolkler 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      H Max you are entitled to YOUR opinion. After all that is what a "belief is... A strongly held opinion. Kind of like religion.. doesn't need facts only faith.
      Successful women the world over want a "successful" man. My Thai wife considers me to be so, even though I am far cry from wealthy. I am living on Social Security for gods sakes. Yea I worked hard and was very successful in my career, however I was financially destroyed by my ex compounded by Multiple Sclerosis.
      She is the first woman in my 58 years who is an actual PARTNER. Again, I consider her to be in the top 10% but that hardly makes her unique.
      Show me ONE MAN on any of these forums why talks all this negative crap WHO DID NOT MARRY A GOLD DIGGING BAR SLUT WHORE.
      JUST ONE. I read these forums, I trace the stories.
      Gold digging whores (reference to Bill Burr) are interchangeable vis a vis culture or nationality.
      What I have not seen on any of these kinds of forums regarding Thai women, is ONE man talking about such shitty treatment from an Thai woman who is not a former bar slut whore.

    Wealthy Thai women will want even wealthier men. You said it yourself the man has "obligations" which means he is expected to pay and increase her standard of living. None of this is wrong but couching it in furry language suggests the financial element is less important than it really is.

    • @EscapetoThailand

      +retirecheapjc Ok young educated Thai women want wealthier men than if they were uneducated.
      American women call this having standards.
      And the rest still applies you said it yourself but used different words. Not sure there is any real disagreement between us just perception.
      I did watch the vid again you said the women are going to. "More affluent Thai women are going for farangs not for financial reasons" 4:44. You may have been quoting an third party source.
      You did spend a lot of effort saying the Thai women are not as economically dependent. You mention women who are able to "take care of themselves". And you mentioned middle class Thai women specifically 4:20. You may not have said the word wealthy but it is certainly implied. Now that I did re-listen to the video it seems undeniable.

    • @celtosaxon
      @celtosaxon 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. I know a lot of wealthy Asian women who would be more happy to have a guy of average means provided he is genuinely kind, sincere and understanding - these thing can become far more valuable attributes when money is no longer an issue. Of course there are exceptions to this, but often true from what I've seen.

    Interesting posts and responses. I was just curious of what people think of Thai women and came across this clip. I am a Thai woman; I really don’t think it is true and applied to me. It is interesting to hear what people think though. I agreed many Thai women, especially ones with less fortunate, are looking for farangs.

    • @EscapetoThailand
      @EscapetoThailand  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tito To Yes you are correct. And that has changed over the years due to Thai women now not having to be seen in the dating process out with different Farang. You know what other Thais would say right? And you might be able to attract a nice Thai suitor that won't go out and get a mia noi and I hope that is the case for you. But as you know this behavior seems to be the norm once the 1st wife hits a certain age. But by no means is this 100% going to happen. The demographics prove it out that Thai women are looking for options and it seems that the Farang culture is different in how the men treat their significant others. But nothing ever will apply to all people no matter what. There are demographics and statistics that apply to the Farang that come to Thailand that don't reflect well on us as a whole and surely they don't apply to every Farang either right? Thank you so much for your comment. It is always good to hear what others think as well.

    • @LaCerulean
      @LaCerulean 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I was a trend setter then (Haha). I never wanted to date Farangs even I was asked by many of them. Nothing against Farangs, just not attracted to me. As far as I see new Thai generation, I don't see Mia Noi in the process either. Or maybe it is only applied to my friends.

With the roper care, love, respect and an interest in her likes and dislikes I think love will follow. I have to be honest and tell you this is an example of exactly why I don't want to live in Western countries. Everything is taken so literally as opposed to looking at what the intention was of what I was saying. If you pick life apart like this you always be able to find examples of what doesn't meet your own personal set of rules. My suggestion would be to loosen up a little bit and allow people the freedom to express themselves without scrutinizing every word in the meanings they have for you personally. It'll make your own life and everybody else's life a lot easier in the long run. I hope you take this the right way because it wasn't meant any other way.

      Michelangelo Buonarroti Yes another spin on the same research. The more media outlets cover this story the more it will propagate this as a trend.

      It may become a trend, but I do not think it is a fad. More choices for smart, educated, and moral Thai women will lead to more long term relationships with men from Western countries. It is inevitable, and Thai men have made it so.
