My family makes the 1-2-3-4 cake, too, as a pound cake in a tube pan. I add 1/2 teaspoon baking powder so I can be sure of a little lift; also 1/2 teaspoon salt and a dash of fresh nutmeg. I have never heard of Uzbeck frosting before - that looks so fluffy and luscious! I loved your video - you sure know your way around a kitchen!

My grandmother, who was born and raised in Louisiana, made this cake all the time with either chocolate or cream cheese frosting. She's up in age now, living in a nursing home, so she doesn't bake anymore. I tried to bake it a couple of years ago but it came out pretty flat. All threee of my layers probably equaled to one of yours and hers, lol. I really love the cake and want to try it again. I wish I could have some of yours b/c it's looks so good and fluffy, just like my grandmother's.
Aw, give it another shot. Sometimes it's trial and error. I'm still learning, but when I first started baking some cakes were horrible, but others were amazing. With practice my cakes are more consistant now :-)

That cake melts in your mouth doesn't it sure looks so good i have to make it and i love the 3 layers and the darker chocolate also could this reciepe have chocolate in the batter and do you use hersheys cocoa and have you tried the dark cocoa powder. Thank you for sharing your recipes just give us more!!!!
I need a stand mixer! I made a similar recipe last week and it flopped. I think it was the fact I didn't cream the butter enough and whip the rest of the ingredients long enough. Having to hold the hand mixer so long was killing my wrists.

I tried this cake today and it came out perfect...folks just follow step by step and you won't be disappointed.

1 -2-3-4 - should 5 be the milk?
If #five was the milk, there would be five cups of milk; so milk just has to be a standard for most recipes.

If you measure 1 tablespoon with your pla ce setting and 1 tablespoon measure they won't be the same amount😢
My 1234 cake taste like a sponge cake! Margarine instead butter , water instead of milk
I believe that is is called a 1234 cake because of the measurement of the ingredients not the amount of the ingredients.
I love the cake but it should not be called 1234 cake because there is more ingredients then what you said
Its called a 1234 cake because those are the 4 main ingredients in the recipe
