The R K Laxman is a great writer. Every episode was a separate short story. These were telecasted on Govt TV channel Doordarshan. You will be surprised to know that the film "Guide" was based on his Novel of same name, acted by the great Dev Anand and Wahida. His brother R K Narayan was famous cartoonist and worked with Times of India.
Malgudi Days are a bunch of short stories based in a typically sleepy South Indian small town/village named Malgudi. The story may or may not have a message but are always amusing, What makes the series interesting is to see the way people lived and went about their daily lives in these typical small towns. Loved ur reactions. Very genuine.
Not south indian it's karnataka's capital bangaluru's areas malleshwarm and bavangudi ke mix made named (malgudi)

In 80's there was only one TV channel ie. Doordarshan but was full of quality and classic tv serial like "malgudi days" "Vikram aur betal" "buniyad" "Humlog " "spiderman ""yeh jo hai zindagi" and above all "chitrahar" .It's nostalgic. We have grown .

Malgudi days was a TV serial, we used to see on Doordarshan in 80s. The series is written by R.K. Narayan, the writer of movie Guide staring Dev Anand and Wahida Rehman.

Harish Patel is Gujrati artist and played well in Nana Role. Harish Patel's most fav dialogue in some hindi movie was Gayi Bhains pani Mein
Back to my childhood...Never missed any episode then....Golden Days of true TV shows...where whole family enjoyed a good drama...can never be compared to todays TV shows...full of over action and more of a negative impact...hmm.. Enjoyed watching it again...love u guys

This was directed by Shanker Nag the great Kannada actor and director. This was shot in the lush green Western Ghats regions of Karnataka. The story dates back to British Raj, before independence. Malgudy was the name given to Agumbe one of the highest rain receiving areas in Indian subcontinent. We have watched every single episode of this serials. It was shot almost 40 years ago. But still absolutely matchless.

That's incorrect. RK Narayan and R K laxman are brothers. Laxman was the cartoonist while Narayan was a writer. Both of them being best in their own domains.
Fun fact - "Mal-Gudi", the fictional town's name is derived from the 2 areas ( Malleshwara and Basavanagudi) in Bengaluru.

Malgudi days r based on a period set in a little town/ village where ppl saved everything. Esply Old generationns grew up in poverty and scarcity. The Oldman is a " Character" shown too miserly to convey a point. 😀 There r many beautiful simple innocent characters r seen in RKN's novals . Very hard to find such innocences I today's society. " Swami and friends " r my favourite by RKN. Capturing the ubiquitous village from past.
