Shanker Nag who is director of Malgudi Days is from Karnataka and he is acted and directed many Kannada films. Malgudi days is dubbed in all Indian laungages. Unfortunately we lost this great actor and director in a road accident when he was just 33 years of age.
@@RAKESHKUMAR-pl6gy His elder brother is Ananth Nag. Both were grown up in Mumbai and were drama artists in marathi langauge . Both were attracted by kannada industry. Shanker nag learnt kannada writing and reading when he shifted to Bangalore.

This story is based on from the novel Malgudi days written by tamilian writer R.K.Narayan who is also writer of novel Guide which is picturised in hindi. Famous cartoonist R.K. laxman was his brother.

Malgudi is two different locality in present day Bangalore.
Mal = Malleshwaram
Gudi = Basavanagudi
This is the oldest locality exists before independence and till date. Malleshwaram is center of Bangalore and Basavanagudi is south of Bangalore. These area is dominated by Brahmins and local Kannada people. They have their history in that place.
Those are not called "Lungi". They are called "Dhothi" in Hindi and called differently in different south Indian languages. "Lungi" will be multi color and not plain white. If one wears Lungi and goes to a temple in south India, he will not be allowed inside the temple. only Dhothi and pants/shorts are allowed for men. Even shorts are not allowed in some temples, for that matter. "Lungi" is considered inauspicious for a temple visit.
As for the episodes, these were first telecast in Doordarshan in 1980s. It was a super hit. Later it was re-telecast in late 1990s. Again it was a super hit before Internet came into use and all the episodes were uploaded for free. Even today it is available in TH-cam.
Since I am a 1980's kid, I am lucky to have watched all the episodes repeatedly since 1980s.
Also, the title music is a super hit in India. Any 1970, 1980,1990 or 2000 kid can recognize this music even in their sleep.
BTW, these stories were originally written by R.K. Narayanan and was adopted as a TV serial. One should also read the book to enjoy the wits and jokes that R.K. Narayanan usually uses in his stories.
1980s were a golden period for all kids as there were multiple such treasures telecasted by Doordarshan. Initial years of 1990s were also good before the cable TV came into being and destroyed the originality of Doordarshan shows.
City people always gets confused between Lungi & dhoti. I think in southern language different style of Dhoti is called Mundu & Veshti too. Correct me if I'm wrong.
& surprisingly old women's cotton saree is also called Dhoti😄
