Make Bubble Bath Wands for Bath Time Fun!

  • Today I'm showing you how to make bubble wands. The bubble wands are bubble bars (solid bubble bath) that's shaped like wands! You can make any shape you want! The wands are really fun to play with. Plus, they're great at making bubble baths.
RECIPE: 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (or sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium cocoyl isethionate), 1/8 cup cream of tartar, + 20 milliliters fragrance oil, 20 milliliters liquid surfactant (cocamidopropyl betaine), 20 milliliters glycerin, & 5 milliliters polysorbate 80.
You'll need 65 milliliters of liquid; wet ingredients are up to you! The surfactant enhances the bubbles' performance, glycerin keeps the dough moist & workable for longer, & the emulsifier allows fragrance to mix with water. I added pink food coloring for a bright pink color & mica for sparkle. Mix wet/dry separately. Add wet to dry & mix. Knead dough until it pulls together. Form a ball. *If dough is too wet or sticky, add a bit of corn starch. If it's too dry, add a bit of glycerin. Mix after each addition. Lay down parchment paper. Coat ball & paper with powder, like corn starch or mica. Flatten dough & coat all sticky parts. Flatten & shape dough while mending cracks. Gently roll dough. Once you have desired thickness, cut out shapes. Then cut out center hole & immediately push stick in. Mend dough with your fingers as you push stick in. For bubble wand pattern: gently score dough on top with skinny object. Dry them for 24-48 hours. Repeat the process until the dough runs out. When the dough dries out & shapes start cracking, add a little bit of glycerin. ISSUES: Use melt & pour soap to secure the sticks for good. If wand breaks, use a liquid surfactant as glue (I used coco glucoside because its really thick & sticky). Apply to broken parts, smoosh the bar back together, & mend the cracks. Drag the bar so it doesn’t dry to table where the surfactant dripped. Dry 24 hours. It's very fragile during this time- DO NOT touch it! DECORATING: Use a liquid surfactant to act as glue (I used coco glucoside because it's really thick & sticky). Paint wand, apply eco glitter, then pour extra glitter off. Dry for 24 hours. RESULTS: *Be careful if you blow colorful bubbles by fabric! I had pink specks all over my white curtains where the bubbles popped. This was so much fun!!! Blow bubbles & make a bubble bath or vice versa.

I think a dab of E 6000 would also help to secure the sticks. I feel like adding just a dash of resin to the mix might help strengthen the structure of the wand.

    • @CreativeBathLab

In description! A surfactant is lessens surface tension- basically its a cleaner & a bubble maker & a foam booster (every soap, body wash, shampoo, etc has it)
