Long time shooter here. Started off as a kid in the 80's/90's with a .40 caliber setup from my local army navy supply shop. Still have 4 blowguns, 2 pro big bores by Cold Steel, the regular big bore from Cold Steel, which is being modified into a frog/fish/etc. rig, and my 36" .40 caliber. Gotta say, I've shot a lot of things in my life. .50 caliber barrett, 30-06, .308, every .22 variant, .40's, 10mm's, .45, .454, .300, unusual amounts of shotguns, but blowguns and archery are my absolute favorite. Quiet and powerful enough to drop black bears and pretty much anything smaller. Cost effective, very accurate, easy to get a feel-for weapons are going to serve you better in an emergency situation than fancy tech and new toys. Simple and familiar will get you further. Thanks for the video. That's a wicked dart. I make something similar with a bamboo dart and two #11 x-acto razor blades.
The blow gun is incredibly powerful and accurate. A tip for the cones is to use ear specula 4mm for big bore .625. You can even trim them down for 50 cal. Incredible speeds 🙌.
All my blowguns are homemade, ranging from .6 to .625 , 5-6ft long. I really enjoy the pvc blowguns as mouth pieces are easily attached, very slick material, and no need to worry about rust. They do need to be braced for 5ft and longer(an aluminum L angle from home depot works great) The dart you showed looks amazing for rabbits and such. I enjoy making cone darts from projection paper or wooden skewers with backer rod/ductape. 5ft 1/2 inch Electrical conduit plus a replacement big bore mouthpiece is a nice .625 option as well.
Love this! I hunt and fish with my cold steel blowgun. We also play darts in the garage while enjoying adult beverages. This new dart looks like a game changer.
I have had Cold Steel blowguns for many years, and tried all the regular darts offered by them, first time seeing this dart! Checked the webpage, steep price for a single dart, but considering the high quality materials, and careful machining, and the care of a craftstman, they are like custom loaded shells for any firearm. Worth it!
I hunt invasive curly tail lizards in my backyard in South Florida. They are starting to get wise and running when they see the blowgun come out. It's amazing how quick they learn they are being hunted. I usually use a pellet gun to hunt iguanas but may try one of these big bore darts to take them out. It's a lot of fun in the summer waiting for Archery Deer Season.
I have the big bore. I’ve Jerry rigged a fishing reel and an eyelet at the tip. Fishing for gar and snakeheads in my area is a blast. I’m thinking about getting after some carp soon too. Give it a try.
I love blowguns because they are affordable on the budget, easy to use, and a silent weapon for small game hunting. Plus, they're fun to shoot in the backyard or in the field, but it is important to shoot responsibly as it is still a deadly weapon.
Hello. A friend of mine got me into blowguns and I got into them around the time I was getting into slingshot hunting (prefer the latter, but the former has its benefits I believe). I’ve taken far more small game successfully with the slingshot. On my property I’ve taken multiple starlings and house sparrows which are legal invasive species of birds to hunt in my state year round. I believe I killed a snowshoe hare once, but unfortunately I did not recover it as it was in really thick foliage and I couldn’t find it. On another occasion I made a really long shot on a rock chuck (groundhog). I just remember he was far enough away that I held the blowgun up higher and watched as the dart arched downward and hit him in what I supposed were his vitals, but he went down his hole amongst the boulders and I didn’t recover him; the dart did go deep into him.
My wife is very accurate with her 40 cal blowgun. Did a quadruple robin hood on a target at ten yards. Weve been looking at the slockmaster for a light game hunting tool for survival. Im liking the slim reaper dart potentially for that. After watching your video review im definitely going to get some of them and a big bore blowgun. Thanks!
Awesome! They’ve got some new releases coming out as well. That are a little more in expensive that I’m going to be reviewing in the next couple of weeks.
one time as a 12 year old i was using a regular fountain drink straw and little berries and at the top of a 60 or 70 foot tree canopy i decided to stand directly under a robin bird and easily hit it one shot . it was dead when it hit the ground at my feet.i didnt feel proud of my self as at the time i knew i was a good shot and could hit it but wasnt expecting it to die. never did it again and as for the now i might just have to have a few of those darts and a blow gun around for shtf.
I have five .625 blowguns form 4ft to 6ft. Three by coldsteal, one Tim Wells pit viper and a custom six ft carbon fiber blowgun. I target shoot daily with many different types of darts. I like to build lung strength with heavy darts, but for the best penetration try putting some KY personal lubricant on the dart heat and shaft. Penetration in to a fore inch foam target with a 12 inch dart goes from 4.5in w/o lube to 9.75in w/ lube. I have found blowgun length gives more to range and accuracy than penetration. Hopefully this helps, have fun.
That's pretty cool and in the right hands would be effective on small game. I've got a big bore Cold Steel which was a lot of fun till I bent it over my neighbors Rottweiler for menacing and growling at my Xs little boys. My friend had one years ago we'd shoot in his basement which made a believer out of me. It would drive the wire darts so deep in the concrete blocks we'd have to use pliers to get them out. I'm not accurate enough with a blowgun to reliably hunt with it but they are still fun to shoot. I'm more of a slingshot kinda guy really. People definitely underestimate slingshots but with the right bands and ammo they are good for hunting and selfdefence. I like that you can carry something so powerful in your back pocket and use all kinds of things for ammo even arrows. Great video!😊
I have a Cold Steel big bore walking stick. Totally inconspicuous. I’ve taking pigeons & glass bottles w/mine. I’ve seen videos on TH-cam where people are using the big bore blowgun killing bear, boars, deer & coyotes? Love your channel!
I prefer 12mm blowgun, I use wire to make darts, same diameter as the wire for spoke, but it will be soft iron wire, I just hammer the wire flat, then make them to a nice triangle shape, I used it to clean out federal cat around my home, it penetrates well.
30 dollars each is ridiculous. Trying to make that much profit is gonna reduce there sales. If they were 10 dollars each they would sell way more. Especially when a 40 pack of cold steel razor darts work fine and are 25 dollars.
I mean theoritically the maximum energy of a blow gun depends on volume of your sign, for example if you use a .625 big bore for 160cm long, it will be equal to a 12mm blow gun in 240cm metres long. However the maximum speed is also depends on its calibre and your air pressure, the 12mm blowgun will be 1.7 times faster than a 16mm blowgun on its maximum speed theoritically.
Thanks I have been waiting to see the slim reaper in action Pretty sweet looking dart I have hunted for over forty years with blow guns of all calibers That certainly looks like you could put it though a rabbit I might be leary of firing it at a squirrel in tree I have had horror stories of pinning a squirrel high up in a tree when I was a kid But thanks for a great interesting video
I own 3 of Tim Wells blowguns! 😁 and the slim reaper is coming today! It is completely legal to hunt with blowguns here in the state of Iowa for small game only.
I have messed around with blowgun since the 70s in the back of Field & stream that big burly guy holding the anteater yes as a kid I ordered one. And the nineties I got a couple of forty cals. forward on a few years. . So tell me my friend. Are they worth it?
They really are bro👍 They’re very powerful and penetrate very deeply. They are a shoo in for small game. Tim Wells placed a dart in the right spot and killed a black bear. It’s on TH-cam
@@411Outdoors bro... because of this video I have a few of the slim reaper darts. And I've booked a Russian Boar hunt! Guided of course. But the guide was open to it because of the dart. Awesome darts. Hopefully they get the job done. Thanks for the video.
@411Outdoors really awesome. I have mongoose infestation and a better blow dart could be a game changer. Could you provide a link to purchase some? Thanks in advance
I can buy a 20-pack or a 40-pack of razor darts that will do the exact same thing and will pretty much carry me for years before I need to buy any more, If I were wealthy and money wasn't an issue I would buy this dart but as it is I would never waste that kind of money for something easily replaceable by a much cheaper alternative.
That thing looks Lethal. I could picture the Blow Gun with a Green Laser mounted on using the right size rings and rail. That would Easily take down Rabbits and Squirrels. With the Darts being Reusable, that is a Great Survival Tool.
Yeah, but if you watch my newest review from the same company, they have some very hefty and expensive options. I put the video out about two weeks ago.
