I forgot to mention; 1/2" conduit PERFECTLY fits .625 caliber blowdarts which means you can use Cold Steel blowdarts right off the shelf! Here's a link to some: amzn.to/47yAF7C
IMPORTANT QUESTION! Would it be better to buy a blowgun already made for about $20 bucks or am I better off making this blowgun that you guys have made?
@@lxAngelsJourneyxl I made mine shortly after watching this video. If you just want to plink around and have fun, go ahead and buy one... But making the gun and ammo feels awesome. It's quick and satisfying to do
Long before TKOR or even TH-cam, I made one using 1/2” copper pipe, sharpened nails, ballpoint pen tubes, and taped up pieces of paper towels for wadding/flights. It was accurate and powerful enough to kill squirrels right in the tree from 25 feet. This looks a bit more refined.
At 54 years of age, it's not one that I'd make, but you seriously need to go right through Grants back catalogue of videos, and revist them, cheers from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
I have 5 blowguns, I'm a big fan of them for survival. For fun I make darts that catch fire when they hit a target, say a can of camping gas. I'm 65. Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.
@DammitIvaldi the problem is grace was creating content that didn't fit the original goals for the channel the new guys are just bringing back to grants style as when she was in controll the channel lost nearly a lot of subscribers same ad nate and the others but it's starting to regain now it's back to the og content.
In my experience, the best DIY blowdarts can be made using "TIG welding filler rod" and "marine grade heat shrink tubing" (the marine grade is lined with hot glue). Happy hunting ;)
This reminds me of being 11 or 12 years old and making all sorts of weapons. I remember finding a quarter and using it to buy a foot of rope to make numchucks. We made darts with sewing needles and tape to shoot from straws. We used my suspenders to shoot Gobstoppers through the math class ceiling tiles. Yup, good times. 😂
When I was stationed in the Philippines in the 70's at Clark AB,, the native Negritos used to sell these to G.I.'s from little stands on base. They worked very well.
I use to make my own darts out a pieces of coat hanger too and taped on cotton balls. The gun was copper tubing . Suckers really moved . Ended up sending one clear throw a beer can aaaaaaaaaaand also clear through the patio door glass in my apartment . Which proceeded to slowly crumble into tiny shards . Thats 2 layers of safety glass, very impressive
I need more of Jarom he just reminds me so much of Grant… let him do old style videos and see how it goes. Been watching for 11 years, I knew TH-cam wouldn’t be the same without Grant. But plenty of other great TH-camrs have flopped… this channel and Smosh are the only 2 I have hope might come back. Don’t let me down ❤️
In my youth my friends and I used the bamboo skewer or coat hangers for dart tips. What we used for the cone was an index card rolled into a cone and filled with candle wax.
Polishing the pipes interior can help a simple pull through and autosol will work other methods available. Alternative to E conduit are domestic mop handles , much lighter and probably easier to come by.
You should sand out the middle of the conduit. Grab a pine dowel tape some sand paper on one end. Roll the sand paper around the dowel sand side out. Attach other end of the dowel to a drill. Make sure drill is spinning in the direction that will keep the sandpaper wrapped up. Work up to at least 120 grit sandpaper.
Pro tips: xacto blades on the skewers for hunting, marking flags for wire darts, and cut the cones about 1/8" long then clip the extra length into fringe for a perfect fit
I made mine yesterday. Super easy, less than 20 bucks for everything at home Depot(although i didn't buy spray paint or the quiver material and i already had electric tape). You also don't need hot glue I advise getting colored duct tape- i use red- for easy to spot darts when recovering. Instead of hot glue, i wrap electric tape around the shaft of the dart where the nail meets the duct tape- effective, no need for electricity and gives a cool dual tone color pallet for your darts I also sawed about a foot off the end of mine. It's slightly less powerful, but 4 feet of electric conduit pipe is a lot easier to use than 5. I also have a factory made lower caliber dart gun, but this one blows it out of the water
Try making long paper cones with a toothpick or nail in the end. For a 5/8 tube use a third of a sheet of paper cut lengthwise. Twist it into a cone and tug to tighten. Add a bit of tape top and bottom. Drop into blowpipe and mark it at the muzzle. Cut it just below the mark. Cut point of cone to make hole big enough for whatever you want to launch. Tape payload to fasten. (I prefer an unmodified 8d nail for 1/2 or 5/8 tube, 16d nail in 3/4 inch.)
Here’s a “better” way of making the tails of the darts from hdpe. You’ll need about an inch of whatever tube your blowgun will be made of, a plastic milk jug, something the shape you want the darts to be that’s a little tougher than a paper cone and something to heat up the plastic (i use a torch lighter). Now….. cut the jug into flat sheets. Heat up about an inch diameter right till it turns transparent, hold that part to the mouth of the little piece of pipe you have(or the blowgun) and push your cone through the melty plastic till its snug onto the pipe. Wait a few seconds for it to cool. Pull out the cone and the pipe should have left a ring around your new plastic cone that you can cut the excess off. Im not sure how to end this so……..
I used to use 3/16 welding rods. Remove the flux , cut in half and sharpen. For the tail use foam ear plugs and a dab of hot glue.they are long and light, but don't break.
This brings back some good memories dudes thanks for revamping it i love this and keep it up so far of all the host tkor has gone through i think i like yall the best
Aluminum conduit is not steel. (I presume that was just a slip of the tongue.) As a kid (1967 or so) We used acetate sheets to make the cones, and piano wire (thick ones) for the tip. We then sharpened the tip with a grinding wheel. Using a 5 foot conduit at 20 feet the darts would penetrate a 1/4 thickness of plywood. I like your duct tape cone concept. Nice video.. and have fun.
Aluminum conduit is not steel, but this conduit is not aluminum. Aluminum or copper tubing would work better as the inside is polished, but they are much weaker and bend if you look at them wrong.

8:41 You can make a pair from one bicycle spoke. Best are the ones with two thicker ends. Cut in half and make a sharp point on each thick end. Because of this they fly more straight!
When i was stationed in Labrador an Airman there ftom Montana who used to hund snakes there with a blow gun made one with a radar wave guide. He could hit a playing card pined up on the dart board across the Airmens club 😅
In my state it's illegal to hunt with it, just because you can doesn't mean you shouldn't look up your local laws to make sure you don't get in trouble for it. Also whatever you shoot you have to retrieve people call the police when they find a squirrel with a dart sticking out of it.

The video of making the blowgun is great and you have said that some of the other videos that show people how to make are awesome too. I have made one with a copper pipe the copper one is good but it does have a lesser weight to the electrical conduit pipe. Also the darts i have seen one with the plastic but the one with the folder is better but another item i saw they use was a empty milk container but that process i see is too much. You need a heat source to heat it up and push the nail through it. The dart too i have used the steel flag markers they sell in home depot and they are the standard for the darts too, but the other materials definitely are great to use too. The videos you make are inspiring for people to make a project to do and give them ideas.

The darts don't lose much velocity at range so penetration will be about the same. Effective range depends on the persons accuracy, personally I find 40 ft is about the max I can hit a soda can sized target reliably. With more practice tho i'm sure you can stretch that farther -Jake

The Pawns Of Random.
Has anyone cut fins on the rear of the cone to add a spin for increased accuracy? Looks like yours are pretty accurate as is. Great job!
My darts have added on rocket fins, they really do spin like rifled bullets.

1/2" EMT and red wire nuts are deadly. If you cut some drop ceiling wire to a point and push it through the wire nut, you have a perfect blowgun dart.
Back in the 60s I made mine using bicycle spokes and small plastic balls
Years ago, when I I built a blowgun, rather than use cones for the darts, I remember cutting all the little pom-poms off of a decorative pillow to use for the darts.
Do a video of using a pneumatic (pump) airgun as the pressure. I found out what is capable and it is beyond what you would believe.
Iv made cones by heating a milk jug with a lighter and very gently push a plumb bob into the hot plastic and it makes a great cone . Trim to size.

Good blow pipes, but have you thought about attaching laser pointers for better aim accuracy?
Sure, the problem is lasers point straight and darts arc downward with gravity

lol we used to make mini ones with empty bic pen with a frayed tip from a shoe lace with a pin through as a dart,
bicycle spokes also make good darts.
