To answer Jen's question: The Nile is the biggest river on the continent with no bridges. So if you end up on the wrong side, you're going to need to find a boat and move all your stuff and pack animals across which will take days, meaning even if the ones on the right side end up with no animals they still have a giant head start.

"Looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the river" means that Benny and friends, while they have the horses, are literally on the wrong side of the river - Hamunaptra is closer to the side that Rick and Evie were on, so Bennie and company would have to cross the river to get there.

The body farm is in Knoxville, TN. It is near the Univ of TN medical center. They put bodies in various situations such as shallow grave, out in the open, under a tarp, in a car, etc to see how the body decomposes over time. This information is used to help determine when death occurred in real cases.

    Fun facts:
-Brendan Fraser suffered permanent nerve damage from the hanging scene
-During one of the first takes in the flashback opening, it was Brendan who came out in a loincloth and body paint to prank Arnold Vosloo
-John Hannah (Jonathan) played the interviewed mycologist at the beginning of _The Last of Us_
-One of Bernard Fox's (Winston) last films. He was famous for his appearance on 1960s TV as Dr. Bombay in Bewitched and Col. Crittendon in Hogan's Heroes

  • @rainbowpegacornstudios

The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evelyn described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): The embalmers used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie.
    Side trivia:
    1. In the scene introducing her as Ankh-su-namun, model/actress Patricia Velásquez was completely naked with the exception of a loin cloth, a few pieces of jewelry, pasties & body paint (body paint took four hours to apply).
    2. Brendan Fraser revealed on a recent episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that he had a near-death experience during a stunt gone wrong while filming “The Mummy.” The Oscar winner said he was “choked out accidentally” during the scene in which he had to be hanged from the gallows in the Egyptian prison, which resulted in him being resuscitated by on-set medical personnel.
    3. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster (on flat land), but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move.
    4. After Evelyn unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading The Book Of The Dead (which is actually a funerary scroll in real life) and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. On a similar note, the scarabs in real life were merely dung beetles, not vicious flesh eaters.

Archeology is one of the fields where you don't have to learn to see how the field advanced. The older generations often look like grave robbers compared to more modern methods. On top of that, Egyptology was one of the big crazes in Great Britain in the 19th Century and one that went on the longest.

I totally understand the Evie criticism. And in hindsight being a viewer, you already know that crazy supernatural shenanigans are going to go down, but in the beginning of the film when she has the book, she is simply a librarian that doesn't believe in any of this Hocus pocus supernatural stuff other than that it's history. In staying true to who she is as a librarian, what is she going to do but read the book. Is very true to her character, but she did in fact make the biggest mistake in the film, which was then mostly rectified at the end.

You're both in for a treat with this franchise! I'm about to do a rewatch of it in a kinda chronological order. The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior, The Scorpion King, The Scorpion King 5: Book of Souls, The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power, The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption (I like to view the pre-title opening prologue is set earlier after the first Scorpion King), The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, both seasons from The Mummy: The Animated Series, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

      the mummy trilogy:
      1. The Mummy (1999)
      2. The Mummy Returns (2001)
      3. The Scorpion King (2002) // as a prequel to The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001), and this should be watched last, the release order is the correct order for seeing them
      ---------------
all of the other 'mummy' and/or 'scorpion king' movies, are really awful b-movies and/or b-tv-films, they just don't exist, 'the mummy' is a trilogy, and it's the 'scorpion king' as its 3rd movie, as the prequel to it, the 3rd 'mummy' movie is NOT the awful 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor' with jet li, shudders (it gave, b-movies / b-tv-films a bad name, it was so bad awful horrible yuck)
      ----------
there's also a failed "remake" attempt with tom cruise, but it has nothing to do with 'the mummy' trilogy at all, it's completely its own (failed) movie: The Mummy (2017)

@@redmoonbloodmoon3161 You can watch the franchise however you wish, that's the beauty of personal preference we can all make our own viewing orders. Enjoyment is subjective, a movie you or I might hate someone else may love, something you and I might love or like... someone else could hate.
In any case I do feel out of all the spinoff features The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption is my favorite of the direct-to-DVD stories, it strikes a pretty good balance of serious and some comedy, it has a stellar supporting cast (Billy Zane, Ron Perlman, Temuera Morrison, Dave Batista), the director clearly gave genuine effort at giving some visual scope despite the lower budget and the story felt like a decent follow-up to The Rock's original Scorpion King.

Always assumeed that the horses won't willingly swim across a wide, flowing river at this point and the nearest crossing to get back on the path to Hamunaptra is presumed to be a long way away up or downstream? Meaning O'Connell's party has a head start on getting there but Benny's is faster.

Warhorses were bred by the Parthians to be aggressive and obedient and absolutely did not wear blindfolds. Horses descended from warhorses would wear blinders that blocked their peripheral vision when pulling a wagon, but blinders did not block their forward vision. Generally warhorses didn’t wear blinders in battle, as they needed the peripheral vision to avoid collisions with other horses and riders.

10:15 Benny being on the wrong side of the river leaves him facing two options, both kinda bad for him...option 1, his group has to convince the horses to cross the river (a task that's easier said than done with a lot of horses), meaning they have to get themselves and all of their gear soaked (again) which makes for a really miserable travelling experience whether you're walking or on horseback (blisters and chafing/diaper rash are real, and they really really suck), while also taking a chance at some or all of their gear/provisions potentially getting washed away during the crossing; option 2, they go way out of their way to find a bridge or shallow part of the river to cross at, costing valuable time for their expedition and letting the "competition" get there first (and theoretically make any pertinent discoveries first). Either way, it looks bad for Benny.

There are 3 mummy movies with a 4th on the way. The Mummy 4 - Teaser Trailer | Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz. Another great couple on screen is Nike & Nora from the movie series "The Thin Man" which is a detective mystery. The screen plays for the movie was by a married couple.

So the reason Imhotep's corps looks so "Abnormal" is because He isn't dead. Remember, he is cursed to be the "Undead" That body they dig up is alive, just chewed up by the beetles and Atrophied after 2k years. His soul is in the dark underworld being tortured. That's Imhotep's curse, the worst of all curses.

With all the Arabic that I've watched in movies and TV, I've only picked up on two things, that "yella" means "hurry" and Habibi I think means "friend" or "brother". I'm still not entirely sure on that last one.

5:07 actually no. By this time in human history, we were using percussion caps at the end of a bullet instead of having to refill the powder separate from the ammunition. (Ironically, percussion caps were created by a Christian minister.)

I'm surprised that you brought up the "Body Farm". In addition to being a real place with 8 U.S. locations, it is also the name of a novel by Patricia Cornwell who often writes mystery books about a fictional Medical Examiner, Dr. Kay Scarpetta and her FBI daughter, Lucy IIRC. It is also the name of a British TV series. Scarpetta uses the Farm in her investigation of a brutal murder of an 11 year girl by the hands of a serial killer.

The reason for several Body farms...is to be able to get accurate decomposition Data for many different scenarios when it comes to different type of Elevations, Climate, and the times of the Seasons of the regions in the U.S...then when all new Data is collected from all the Body Farms in the U.S...it is all uploaded into the National Crime Forensic system where it can help give an accurate length of Time in determining how long any Body/Bodies that are found out in the elements or vehicle's when all of the recent past weather Data is ran along with current/updated Body Farm data,

They recast Evie in the 3rd movie. Maria Bello and Brendan Fraser didn't have the same chemistry, but it actually kind of worked for a "We've been married 20 years and things are a little stale. Need a mummy adventure to reignite the spark," vibe.

The whole wrong side of the river scene is not that hard to understand. Benny has the transport in this case the horses, but he is on the wrong side of the river. Meaning he would have to cross the river to get to Hamunaptra. O'Connell and his crew were on the right side of the river to get to Hamunaptra. Also yes it was Eve's fault, but see stayed wanting to fix things. She grew from a clumsy librarian to a brave woman fighting off mummy's. If we didn't have moments like these in films, TV shows and book then there would be no point making them.
