That taxi driver reminded me of an elderly crossing guard I knew in Daegu. I lived in Korea for 4 years and saw him every morning. We’d have conversations in Korean while I waited for the light to change on my way to work. On my last day of work, I told him I’d be leaving going back to America and he cried and we talked for almost an hour. The parting words he gave still make me cry to this day. Thank you for another great video. I just finished a summer job as a Leader for groups of Japanese students (there was a Chinese group, but they couldn't make it), and it was a dream job. I got to work on my Japanese, make friends from all around Japan, and show them what Vancouver and the surrounding area has to offer. We even got a free week of Japanese lessons! All the agents and students were really kind, and were really impressed with my Japanese (and height, of course 😂) to the point that one of the agents started talking to me a lot in Japanese (I could understand what she said most of the time, but I can hardly form sentences, so it was interesting). I felt really encouraged, and it forced me to talk to people and get out of some of my comfort zones. It was a beautiful experience. I'm so grateful for all of the culture they shared. You are such an inspiration to me. I discovered your videos a few months ago and I think you're honestly incredible. I learned French and Spanish at university over twenty years ago. I never thought of asian languages as something thats accessible to westerners (I'm English) but I've recently met a couple from Bangladesh and started learning Bangla a month ago. I absolutely love it and they are amazed at how fast I am picking it up. You showed me this could be possible ❤ keep up the great work.
My mother was like you in reverse. She grew up in Java Jakarta around the time of WWll. Her Family were ethnic Chinese merchant class so she grew up with servants and of course spoke Mandarin and Indonesian but was taught English by British nuns from a very early age. Also because Indonesia was a Dutch Colony she learned Dutch and it was spoken a lot around her. It was expected from her class within the society. She could really speak Dutch well. When my ex-wife and I took her to the Netherlands to visit family she was excitedly speaking Dutch to everyone who'd converse with her! I should point out that my mom is one of the smartest people I've known in my life. Constantly voraciously reading retaining everything huge vocabularies and perfect pronunciation. My mom never sounded Asian (not that that's bad when she arived in America in 1954 never to return to Asia she spoke English with an English accent because of the British Nuns. What's funny though is that she always had these ingrained mannerisms and way of laughing that I heard Dutch women replicating 🤷 funny. So I'm 63 and my Mom died in 2010.

I mean no offense, but I want you to know that I'm unsubscribing because of the pleads you make for financial support. You initially live your lifestyle separately from TH-cam. It is not because of TH-cam that you are able to place yourself into these environments. You have documented a lifestyle that you were already able to afford. Your language prowess is far more than enough for you to find meaningful work, so I am unimpressed by your resolve. Patrons of your endeavors do so because they wish to support you. They do not support you because they patron your endeavors. There's a level of integrity that I think you should value- behind those patrons and this does not require a request from them. It is certainly impressive to see the excitement of the locals and to see their reaction to the token linguistics of a western woman, but I think that it is more important to share the cultures and draw attention to the experiences that others could have, if afforded the opportunity to be in your place.
Love this video. It's clear that you have a passion for culture and languages and the channel is just one of the ways of expressing that. Keep having fun.

I lived in Shanghai for some time and when visiting Taiwan or working with people in Taiwan it was always a lot of fun. They are really chill and super friendly. Had a great time there and remember my Taiwanese colleagues fondly though so many years passed since. My husband also has some close friends from Taiwan. They are all great people, too. I spoke only limited Chinese, just enough to get by, but it definitely made a difference.
Is funny to see her going around scaring/surprising people with their language where they did not expect her to speak. 😂 It really open up a new world when you speak their local language.
Rambling aside, that, combined with your videos, have helped me stay determined with my plan to go to Japan. Thank you :)
Speaking one Asian language is hard, speaking Japanese, Korean and Chinese is amazing, almost like a superpower!
Amazing, you are a good person. Thank you so much for sharing and taking me along on your Taiwan journey. Be safe and may the lord watch and bless you wherever you go. Aloha from Hawaii
It's amazing what can happen when people actually speak to one another, instead of talking past each other. Keep up the great work ❤From Detroit as always
Thank you friend. I’ll be back in Detroit next month.
I love these kind of videos. It always warms my heart to see how happy it makes people when you can speak to them in their own language.
Aww, i caught myself smiling throughout, so wholesome
YOU have been missed Big Time Anming! It's is always such a pleasure to see the genuine surprise AND happiness of a person hearing and seeing a foreigner speak to them in their native language! That never gets old as it shows people of differences connecting and appreciating one another! That Taxi Driver no doubt is now Tattooed on your Memory Wall! What a sweet man! I truly hope "down the road" that you two hook up again and we get to see his pure joy when this happens! Getting ever close to a MILLION Subs in here! I hope those who cannot help in Patreon at least support you in here! Cheers to You and your Husband! Keep Smiling and Strutting AND Speaking The Languages! Cheers From Columbus, Ohio...Neighbor to your Detroit!
Thank you. I hope we can get to 1 million subs before the end of the year.
You should do a live or a ft video with Ashya she is a Fluent speak Japanese foreigner like you but she is from Russia and she wants to live in Japan as a National...a local...
That would be hilarious to do a "Which one is the Russian?" gameshow since everyone already thinks Anming is Russian :D
What’s her TH-cam channel?
@@RestoredMedia is written in japanese hiragana but its ashya in japanese charchters
@@fabricio4794 あしや for those still wondering, thank you.
These videos are mind blowing, I subscribe to a few TH-cam channels but this one is sooooo addictive. It gives a great insight into the Asian culture and how friendly people you’ve never met are. Taxi driver was great what a champion
I hope you subscribed to this channel too! 😊
As always, she never fails to amaze us❤
I recently found your videos. They are a joy to watch the native speaking folk amazed by your talent for language. Without seeing you speak in most of the videos, I would swear that it is a native person speaking. My daughter speaks French fluently and it was my great joy last year to travel to Paris together and watch her converse with Parisians and their amazement that an American spoke French so well. Your family must be so proud.
Im bilingual myself, but only with English and my native language Afrikaans, and youve inspired me to start learning other languages! Im currently able to speak a little bit of French, and im able to understand most of German, and i can fully understand Dutch, since Afrikaans originated from Dutch. Do you have any tips for me in learning a new language and staying motivated? Much love from South Africa😁🌻
A spaced repetition system like anki, immersion, and using what you learn
Sending love from Japan to South Africa!
I always love these videos. I get to step out of my bubble a bit and it really feels like you're bringing us with you, thanks Anming!
Love your videos!
So impressive! My favorite is the sweetest Taxi driver. So humble and generous. I love the interactions. People open up right away and want to know your story. I pray for your channel and pray that you can continue your journey.
Thank you so much!
希望你在台灣玩的很開心!!!
当然!我想再去一次。
I have never seem that wow you make people feel so open to talking it’s great you have great energy and and seem playful open to all adventures what a life your husband is one lucky man keep up the great work and sharing with us all
It's funny seeing you use mainland Chinese in Taiwan
For example, one difference is the word for taxi which in China is 出租車 but in Taiwan is 計程車
So cool tho
Yeah, they can always tell I studied on the mainland. Since I used to work in Taiwan I still remember some of their special words. Usually I switch the vocab to fit what they're used to hearing in Taiwan.
@@OrientalPearl 好厲害
@@djunior874 Taiwan IS China, every province of China has regional dialects
@@youtubeuser206 Yes, you are correct. It is the Republic of China, an entity entirely separate from the People's Republic of China and colloquially referred to by the public and by the government themselves in many cases as "Taiwan".
@@djunior874 Good on you.
Your videos are awesome, I love how you go up to random people and just start talking to them in their native language, I hope you get thousands of patreons so we all can enjoy your videos!
I hope so too!
You and Xiaomanyc would be great at making collab videos
This woman is amazing, as are her videos! A huge life lesson for us all!
Love who you’re with, love where you are!
Thank you so much!
Once you're done learning korean... Try filipino... Itd be awesome...
Ha ha, I was going to take on Vietnamese next.
Great video! What a nice taxi driver. I definitely enjoy all the content you put out. Thanks for the time to do so. I will be checking out your patreon.
This is awesome and why I also started to learn Japanese and Korean! I'm thinking of adding ASL to the bunch 😆😆😆😆, the one who got me into this was Laoshu505000, sucks he had passed away 😭💔. But what a break joy it brings me to see videos like this! Breaking the language barrier! Not only that but to keep on learning is amazing!
That taxi driver was so sweet. He was concerned about your safety! You are very brave traveling by yourself.
HONEY, YOU ARE DOING WHAT THE UNITED NATIONS "WISHES" IT COULD DO!!!
You and Tommy have started me on a journey that is so fun.
Glad that your back oriental pearl. Miss you live. Have a good rest of your day.
Thank you. I hope you have a good day too!
What's money when you have such a hot date.. Love the taxi driver 🙂
Love this video. It's clear that you have a passion for culture and languages and the channel is just one of the ways of expressing that. Keep having fun.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this one!
Let’s see if you were a man if he’d do all these 😂
Was a great watch, much thanks passed.
'Best Wishes' you also have sent from Western Scotland.
You are such a natural. Its lovely to see how everyone gravitates to you. I only know you thru You Tube but you are super friendly & have a great personality. 😊
Thank you so much!
That was absolutely amazing and so inspiring! I am currently trying to learn Mandarin, Vietnamese, Thai and Tagalog all at once. I’m fluent in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Asian languages are a completely different world and watching your video made me feel like I can succeed too! Very nice!
The fact you speak their language is wonderful. But the fact that you’re always so sweet to everyone is what makes you amazing!
That was a fun video! The taxi cab driver was so nice to you!
just started watching your videos. I'm an adopted Brazilian-American and language really is the breakthrough!
Seeing videos in Taiwan is a new one for me! So as always, thanks for bringing us Along for the ride Friend 🙏🏽🫶🏽
Glad you enjoyed! I have another one from this trip coming out later this week.
@@OrientalPearl Oh nice! I'll be sure, to keep an eye out then! :D Enjoy your week.
That was a great video. I apologize - I supported on Patreon and had to stop for a bit. I’ll be back to do so again. Your videos are superb and sharing in your journey is a joy. You are appreciated and valued.
I appreciate you. You’re special. You’re still in the .0001% of viewers that’s ever supported my channel on Patreon
I had no idea it costs so much to make videos, I love your videos and wondered why you were not making more, I actually felt a bit upset by that . . . but now I know. I'm retired and don't make enough to financially support you but I can subscribe and like. Thanks Anming for all your hard work. YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO MUCH FUN!
Yeah, the travel is very pricy. The Korea trip was the most expensive so far because of the private language classes. $7k
i love your interactions with random people :D They are always so stunned when they hear you talk
Your videos are always great and inspiring! I just subscribed to the Patreon, never give up!
Thank you so much! That really means a lot!
today i gave you the like and subscribed. this is probably the tenth video i've seen of yours .... and they are always so upbeat ... and it reminds me of going to elementary school in Germany and high school in Italy ... roaming around talking to people was just the greatest ...
Thank you so much for finally subscribing!
Bravo--another superior person oriented video from the lovely language nerd.
Very interesting vid!! It was a pleasure meeting you for the first time today and was quite surprised chancing upon you in Ueno! Thanks again~ :D
Ha ha, it was nice to meet you too. What a coincidence.
Indeed! :D
I have recently discovered many Korean series on Netflix. I love watching them and would love to visit one day. I come from The Netherlands and enjoy your videos very much. Thank you, kind regards, Irma.
See that’s great hun, they respect people who makes the effort to know their culture. You are such a great advocate for them and us. Love you sweetheart keep safe❤
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your support! That’s very kind of you.
Thanks for making the video
I subscribed. I think my brain would melt if I tried to learn 5 languages like you. I don't know how you keep it all straight in your mind.
I live in Canada and have always been fascinated by Japanese culture because my great grandfather was Japanese. He came to Canada many decades ago and he married my English great grandmother way back in 1917. I often wonder about the discrimination they faced as a mixed couple. Especially back then.
I hope to vist Japan and would really like to know more about my Japanese side of the family.
Thank you so much for subscribing!
@@OrientalPearl I'm definitely going to go back and watch some interesting videos I missed.
The taxi driver is so sweet. Language opens up so much. My less-than-toddler-level Thai, and my few months of Mandarin & Cantonese, really engenders respect, humor and admiration from ppl in businesses or the street. I stay in Thailand a month at a a time
I always like how genuine you are Anming when you speak to other people in their languages. I’m taking Japanese trial lessons online through zoom so far it’s OK but hopefully I’ll see if I will continue with the actual lessons to not. I know there’s other options for me to choose from. I know it help me to further my studies. I’m a bit rusty
