So inspirational. Now I'm motivated to go back to my Czech language lessons. It's so complicated - but logical - but complicated. But less tenses than English, and you pronounce every letter ( well, _almost_ every one ). Practice, practice, practice !
just terrific. You connect with people instantly in a shockingly pleasant way that is just so appealing to everyone. Your exchanges with them are just so sweet I just love it.
I speak French, English, Vietnamese and im hoping to learn Japanese and Korean soon but I’m actually Vietnamese myself, I would love to see you learn Vietnamese!
Yes, you speak each language so well. However, it's really impressive how seamlessly you transition from one to another. Hopefully I can be like that one day.
Transitioning from one language to the next is tough. I write poetry in English and German. If I interlace German words into a mostly English poem, I have to stop and think... since the structure and metaphoric meanings may be lost in the translation. Jumping from language to language can be a completely different, complex thought-process.... and is actually more impressive to me than actually being able to speak the different languages.
Tommy is so adorable, like a kid in a Toy store. Its refreshing to film outside of Japan but still with Japanese culture . Looking forward to more videos from you both

The amount of courage to switch to Korean like that... 대박이다 진짜요. I didn't have that sort of bravery at all my first years learning Korean lol. I'm pivoting to Chinese right now, so I hope to be even half as fluent as you this year! 화이팅! 저도 노력할겁니다!
Seeing you at the beginning of your Korean journey is honestly so inspiring. I want to keep seeing updates over the years until you’re fluent 🥰 hopefully I can keep up as I continue learning Japanese!
Hi just want to point out that it's 五福臨門, and not the other way around. Traditional Chinese is written from right to left, so in the past, even horizontal writing was in this right to left form, and only in recent decades it's getting more common to see from left to right, in horizontal writing (and also, traditional Chinese writing was top to bottom vertically, then right to left). Since that banner was for Chinese New Year, it was written in the old style way (right to left). And for the roast duck, my guess is that it is a Cantonese style roast duck, and not a Peking (roast) duck, based on the shop and the Cantonese lady there. I wish you would try the Cantonese language one day, but of course Vietnamese is also very cool. (9 tones vs 6 tones.) Sugoi on your videos! Keep it up! And thanks! Cheers, From Vancouver, Canada

Anming, you are amazing. There are no words to describe how well you have mastered several languages. I could see you as a interpreter at the UN . I am from Louisiana,my mother spoke fluent French as her first language,English as her second language. She never taught it to myself or my brother or sisters. Back then it was discouraged, now it is taught some, but Spanish is in the fore front as a foreign language taught in school. Southern Louisiana roots are French, but Spanish leads in school language taught, blows my mind. At 65,I am trying to learn French and speak some. People who hear me speak French, say I speak it naturally, that I must have picked up on some listening to my mother speak it all those years.
It always amazes me how you do the language switch. I can switch between English and Japanese but any other language I keep switching to Japanese or freeze up trying to get my mind into the language I'm learning. It's amazing how you flick between them so well. And I love how real you are.
You need to let go the mind in the process of switching, like do not fixate in ideas of "remembering" words... that distracts you and render you real tense, tampering with your articulation of words.
I’ve been following you for awhile & still amazed at how natural you are with the different languages. I know you worked hard at it but you’re awesome!😊
It's so cool how amazed people are when you speak their foreign language and they're very impressed and pleased that you can communicate with them in their native tongue. It's made me realize we as English speaking people need to show the same support and encouragement when we hear people that don't have English as their first language using English. I think watching these videos help me to understand that. Thank you

And you don't look Russian at all to me, so that's funny that they assume that is where you're from. But I guess that it would not be a stretch for a Russian woman from say, Vladivostok to learn several other languages. Looking forward to more videos in the future!
She might just remember us. I would love to go back and see her again.
So inspirational. Now I'm motivated to go back to my Czech language lessons. It's so complicated - but logical - but complicated. But less tenses than English, and you pronounce every letter ( well, _almost_ every one ). Practice, practice, practice !
Every language seems a lot more logical compared to english ahah 😁
That's awesome that these videos motivate you to learn Czech! That makes me so happy.
@@PierreMiniggio 😂
just terrific.
I’m learning French and I speak Vietnamese too
Yes, you speak each language so well. However, it's really impressive how seamlessly you transition from one to another. Hopefully I can be like that one day.
Thank you so much Daivd.
Looking forward to more videos from you both
Thank you Alan. I’m making a video about him in America and his reaction right now.
Anming- promoting a more inclusive and diverse Japan on a daily basis. Thank you!🙌
I watch your channel and it makes me feel better every time. People's reactions when you answer them in their language are hilarious :)
You are an amazing person and you should be a role model. You show how to be open to other people with respect for their culture and language.
I wish you all the best.
Genuinely love seeing you interact with everyone in their native languages it’s so impressive. I speak a few languages but none of them confidently but watching you speak like this made me revisit language studies
The amount of courage to switch to Korean like that... 대박이다 진짜요. I didn't have that sort of bravery at all my first years learning Korean lol. I'm pivoting to Chinese right now, so I hope to be even half as fluent as you this year! 화이팅! 저도 노력할겁니다!
Ha ha, they caught me off guard. I didn’t except that they were Korean. I hope to build some more confidence with Korean in the next few months.
@@OrientalPearl and good luck with your Vietnamese I watch video and I use Duolingo and my parents speaking it to be fluent
Seeing you at the beginning of your Korean journey is honestly so inspiring. I want to keep seeing updates over the years until you’re fluent 🥰 hopefully I can keep up as I continue learning Japanese!
Thank you so much. I'm so happy to share this journey with you from the very beginning.
(9 tones vs 6 tones.)
Sugoi on your videos! Keep it up! And thanks!
Cheers,
From Vancouver, Canada
Longtime subscriber here - this is amazing, and thank you for sharing your life's journey with us all! You inspire us to reach beyond our perceived limitations. All the best to You & Tommy!
730k! My goodness your channel has grown. It seems like not long ago we were celebrating 2k lol. I'm glad you stuck with it and wish you and Tommy all the best!
Thank you Bob. I'm glad that you're one of them!
Its always laughing, smiling and good vibes with these videos and that's why I love this channel 😁👍
That's so amazing that you're learning languages at 65! You're incredible.
Miss Oriental Pearl. You are beautiful and inspiring. Thanks for the encouraging. Have the happiest life possible.
Haha its hilarious when they don't think you can speak their language but bust it out & they look confused
Wow you are levelling up, you make Moses happy with that
I love your videos! I am an ABC (my mom is from Taiwan) and I know hardly any Chinese. Your videos inspire me to learn Chinese. Thank you!
You can do it too!
Thank you
You and Tommy are so wholesome. I love seeing vlogs with you together!
Thank you!! 😊
I'm happy to see a new video! Your content inspired me to start learning Chinese 6 months ago and that was one of the best decisions in my life. So, I just want to say thank you. Keep up the good work!
I'm so happy that you decided to take on Chinese and they you're still doing it! Keep up the good work.
So cool that you can speak so many languages! I’m learning Japanese right now and it’s quite hard but also so much fun. Keep up the good work :)
@@Greeaf69 not for everybody.
@@Greeaf69 It’s in the top 10 languages that are hard to learn, so I wouldn’t say it’s easy haha. But nice for you that you find it easy, can you speak it fluently?
@@juliag9916 Very true :)
@@Greeaf69 what about all the Kanji though? I can read Hiragana and Katakana too, as well as some Kanji but I still have so much to learn, some of which will be much harder than the basic stuff you learn at first
@@juliag9916 I have to get into Kanji yet, i can imagine how hard it is, there’s like 50000 Kanji, a little over 2000 is useful to learn the basic reading, But next to hiragana and katakana that is just so much🙈 but every week i learn new things so that’s really fun and worth it, do you practice everyday?
🥱Yawn. Come to Bengaluru/Karnataka/India.
I can speak / converse fluently in 5 languages.
Oh what a wonderful find. I’m watching it for the second time right now. There’s virtually no one within earshot of you that’s isn’t totally blown away not just by how fluent and at ease with the languages you are but that you would bother to learn their languages at all. That’s what you’re seeing in their faces and hearing in their laughter and conversation. You cared enough about them to learn their language. It’s so endearing. I just find it completely awesome and refreshing. Keep it up
I love how you can instantly connect with others just by speaking their mother tongue! You're so impressive. I hope to be fluent in french one day
Thank you. I wish you the best luck with French.
Tommy is so supportive and AWESOME. I’m so happy 😊❤ that you have a partner who is SUPPORTIVE in your linguistic endeavors. You’re even risking your KOREAN now..I’m so PROUD. I am a loyal SUBSCRIBER Since the QUARANTINE and you use to teach CHARLES ENGLISH from home. Love your new adventures. I pray 🙏🏽 you and TOMMY have a blessed NEW YEAR 2023’.
Thank you for being a subscriber for so long Stephanie! I wish you the best in 2023 too.
Everyone was blown away by your linguistic skills.:) Amazing! I think the Chinese sign you held in the beginning of the video reads from right to left, thus 五福临门 or "five happiness arrive at the door." When you lived in China, you might have seen this kind of signs written this way on public gates/walls-an ancient way. But once the writing becomes an article, it would go from top to bottom and right to left. Only modern Chinese reads from left to right. Great video!
You’re right I should have read it the traditional way.
In all of my 42 years and my travels, living in three different continents, i must tell you how impressive your language acquisition is and your ability to engage with strangers. You break all the negative stereotypes of the ugly American. You represent us so well! Finally a female who aces it!
Your mastery of languages is impressive Pearl, I wish you and your husband happiness and prosperity for the new year!
Thank you for your kind words.
I am learning Korean but with a full time job + I decided to go back to studying, it goes slow. But every week I am learning something new. Good for you that you had time to learn more languages. :)
That's awesome Evelyne. We can motivate each other in our Korean studies.
Omg, you and your husband are just adorable! I love subscribing and following your videos. I get excited when you upload them and very nostalgic for my days of living in Japan! 🌸
Thank you so much Melinda. That's awesome that you got to live in Japan.
Two & a half years in Kanagawa Prefecture at Camp Zama Army Post. Got to spend time in Hokkaido in the winter, where I quickly learned to say “Samuidesu” 🥶! Also got to vacation in Okinawa and learned “Soto wa atsui”. 🥵
I am subscribing your channel from India ! Very impressive to speak so many languages ! It's very motivated to me nothing is impossible !
I have been learning English more than 12 years, and I never get that level of perfect like a native speaker. You spoke multiple languages all at once, and that is incredible performance. You spoke very well in those foreign languages, Its awesome. Great skills.
I envy to your foreign language skills . Perhaps you need another foreign language. Bahasa Indonesia. Indonesian language.
Keep up the good work Greetings from INDONESIA
Well, well, talk about opening doors by speaking someone‘s native language! That is so quick, a few phrases and kind words or compliments or even a joke here and there, and all of a sudden you are in a completely different position to their souls. I adore you and your skills, Pearl. You are absolutely fear and ruthless, love it. 😂 Hugs to you both from Uruguay ♥️👍🇺🇾
I'm also shocked at how little it takes to make a connection like this.
I’m glad you talk about how hard it is to learn a new language. Some of are blessed with multiple in the household, but it’s still just as hard for the next languages. Your husband, I bet, is really proud of you. ❤ cute vids
Tommy wants to start learning Korean now too.
Wow,you are so impressive you can even speak Korean now. You really are a motivation for me when it comes to learning Languages.
I’m so glad that these videos motivate you.
That Vietnamese lady is just so sweet. I miss my mother so much. It's been 6 months since she passed away and she was like this lady with everyone, although she couldn't speak English as good as the store owner she still spoke Vietnamese to everyone. May you rest in peace dear Mother 🙏🙏🙏
I’m American and speak only English but I watch a lot of Chinese TH-cam. I’m always bummed when they are not closed captioned!! You inspire me!
Glad to hear you want to learn Vietnamese! I'm a native speaker myself and I can barely speak it lol. Personally I think it's an extremely difficult language but you're already so talented that I don't think it'll be much of a challenge for you!
We should learn together
Amazing language skills! Keep up the good work and peace out!
Thank you Joseph.
@@OrientalPearl Do you know Thai?
Great job on the Korean. It takes guts to try your new language the first few times outside of a classroom environment.
Thank you Scot. I talk to my teacher in Korean, but I got all intimidated talking to people on the street. I'll have to get used to it.
You're such a treasure interacting with people of different cultures so free and breezy. Your editing is light years ahead of your earliest videos.
Thank you so much Thomas. I’m so glad that you got to see the progression. You’ve been a supporter for a long time. I really appreciate that.
You are such an inspiration 🥰🌹 You n hubby are both adorable. So lovely to hear someone with such warmth switching different languages to chat to others. So Beautiful to hear an see. World needs more lovely’s like You’s 🥰🌹🥰 Take Care n safe travels where ever you’s May be.

I love your videos, I want to learn Japanese but I just can’t push myself to sit and learn. Any tips? Also my favorite part is at 9:28 their reaction to you telling them how long you’ve studied Chinese. That’s why I love your content, so genuine with everyone you meet ❤
Thank you! I started learning Japanese through daily audio lessons. I suggest starting there. I have links in the video description.
Vietnamese will definitely be interesting to learn in the future. A lot of ppl don't know that there's a huge borrowing of Chinese vocabulary in the language. Lots of traditions are also similar such as giving out red envelopes on Lunar New Year and eating mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival.
You’re right. I want to learn it for that exact reason. It’s going to build on the knowledge I have from Chinese.
north vietnam (Jiaozhi,Annam) was a province of China for a thousand years. Was vassal state of Qing dynasty China until the french came invaded it when China was weaken by civil & opium wars.
Will you continue your amazing and unique language learning train by learning Vietnamese via Korean as you are doing Korean via Japanese previously Japanese via Mandarin? So mind blowing! ++Aloha from Hawaii
Yeah it's quite strange to study Japanese in China and Korean in Japan, but that's how it worked out lol
I love your vlogs. You are so charismatic and engaging. I can see why people like speaking with you.
This young lady is getting a full experience of her travels. I truly enjoy these videos.❤
It would be fun in Tokyo to pretend that your husband would not understand any Asian languages and then Pearl would translate into English for him.
Hi Anming, I suggest you consider learning Cantonese first since Cantonese has more speakers worldwide than Vietnamese according to Ethnologue. Cheers from Malaysia. 😂
I’m not considering learning any dialects at this time. I’d feather take on Vietnamese next.
As a fellow Michigander I want to convey to you how much I appreciate your videos, I live vicariously through you, and also work on my social anxiety through your videos by imagining myself in the same scenarios you put yourself in. It also helps with my social anxiety to see you put yourself out there and nothing bad happens. so it helps me build up my courage. So thank you for your videos! I also love languages and have learned some in high school, and small amount through Anime, K--dramas , J-dramas, and their T.V. shows that I can find on TH-cam ( like love letter). My husband and I had planned years ago to visit Japan, but I got sick and started to have seizures, then after taking meds and them helping me I found out I was pregnant. After having our son I stopped having seizures and am slowly getting back to health, So maybe we will be able to visit Japan in the future. With all that said, What would you recommend for us to do in Japan, or really any of Asia, with a child. I worry our son won't find culture as interesting as we do. Thank you again! I Will see you in your next video!
I’m glad that your health is doing better. I hope you can come to Japan one day soon!
I love how touchy-feely you are with your husband! So clear how much you love him!
This is great! I’ve been following you for quite some time and you really are an inspiration and encouraged me to learn more languages and become a language teacher ! Thanks to you I’m studying mandarin chinese and japanese and really want to get to korean and vietnamese as well 🤗 keep up the good work and the great videos 🎉
What if you’re a Russian sleeper agent? Thats why you look Russian 😱 😅
You're on to my secret.
You have to admit Pearl. You like showing off even if its just a little.
Ha, not really. These videos are not my cup of tea. It’s like pulling teeth to get me to make Chinatown reaction videos, but I do it for the viewers.
@@OrientalPearl ok i see.

i'm fluent in german, and somewhat in russian, also learning swahili and zulu. the last (zulu) was a surprise, it's lovely, musical and very pleasant to hear. i applaud you on being fluent 3 times as much as i. it's a delight to watch your uploads!
These are my favorite videos of yours. Shows how language opens up the world
Came here from Xiaoma. I subbed as soon as I heard your conversations in both Chinese and Japanese! It's so impressive how much you know. I was shocked to hear that so many who watch didn't subscribe, especially after I subbed after only having to see 1 video!
You inspired me to literally spend more time working on Greek (after seven years of scatty efforts). In one video you mentioned getting out of it what you put in (or something to that effect). So it’s at least two hours daily and wow-I’m making progress! Slow but steady! Thank you for the wise advice!
That's so cool you were here in Hawaii!! Wish we had run into you while you were here so we could've shown you some of our favorite spots. You're multilingualism is very impressive. I'm newly subscribed to your channel. Lived in Taiwan when I was younger and would love to get my Mandarin skills as good as yours.
I am very very impressed with your language skills ... wonderful to see someone who just having fun learning other cultures and their way of speaking and tones.
Your videos are truly inspiring, I‘m obsessed watching them! I work as a tour guide in Austria (German, English & Serbo-Croatian tri-lingual), have a lot of Chinese/Korean guests and your videos really motivate me trying to learn these languages :)
Very interesting. You're a natural, very talented but also authentic & genuine in your communication style, regardless of language. After you've learned Korean & Vietnamese maybe try Thai. Supposedly quite difficult but it's a very interesting & friendly culture. They always go crazy for foreigners speaking their language too so good for more You Tube vids. : )
Found your channel today, and boom here I am hooking at your videos! I love them all. And your husband is really nice to you. May God give you happiness and love all your life❤️
You are an amazing young lady , you jump from chinese to japanese to english like a flash. Bravo
WOW! I am Japanese and I can't speak anywhere close to you. your amazing! keep up the good work.
WOW, my deepest respect, your language skill are stunning. Have a great time, take care, enjoy. ♥
Just a older east Coast gal. Love your content. My daughter is moving to Japan with very little Japanese. What a adventure. Love how your generation just goes for it.
@Oriental Pearl: You are so amazing. The accuracy of your pronunciation in Mandarin is so good. Enjoying your videos!
Simply amazing how you switch from Chinese to Japanese so fluently....I am very impressed
I love watching you interacting with people in Chinese, Japanese and Korean, and their reactions on learning that you’re fluent in the first 2. 新年快乐。 恭喜发财!
Thank you! 春节快乐!
I love how you are setting an example for humans to interact & date outside of their own kind.. beautiful.
Oh, please. 🤢
Now this is what i call talent!! Young lady 👍❤
I am in the top 0.8 percent then! Finally! ;)
What I like the most are Anming's people skills. You either don't realize or are really humble, but the way you talk to people is so unintrusive and nonconfrontational but still lighthearted fun conversation that nearly all of them seem to feel really comfotable right from the start. I assume that has to do with great cultural knowledge about the people you speak with. That is a huge gift and I enjoy watching you speak with people. I started learning Japanese but it is really challenging.
Another great one! good luck on your Korean journey! can't wait to see what's next! :)
Thank you! I’m excited to show you what I’ve been learning.
I watch your videos and other language videos now and then, but even though I might really like to be able to speak Chinese or other great sounding languages, I'm too much of a hermit to ever get any real use out of doing it.
But I love seeing the cheerfulness and to see different people's light up when they hear someone speak their language who is not from their location.
Great video. 😁👍
It’s like you are on a life mission to surprise and delight. Your videos are cute and don’t get old.
