Late 80s and 90s GTs are the best looking hardtails ever. They look fast standing still. I had the Daktari White Avalanche. Best looking bike I ever had. Broke the frame unfortunately or Id probably still have it.
I missed out on a red and blue Giant Rincon in a classified ad from 1994 last year . I saw it and it looked like it had been kept indoors and hardly used . It turned into an auction due to several expressions of interest in it . I sat on it before other people arrived moments later and fell in love with it straight away . Lucky I have the black and blue Yukon , it's cousin from the same year .
I bought this exact same bike in 1992, joined the Army in 1993..took it with me to Germany then Italy…sadly it was stolen in Italy in 1998 😢 - I just found one on eBay (all original and looks almost mint) cannot wait till I get it!! Found Onza bar ends as well will be looking just like my old one…
The quill stem on the Karakoram was like the one on my old Outpost but the main disadvantage of the design was that the compression cap and allen bolt had to be periodically tightened slightly unlike the later AHEADSET system .
If I'm correct this is the "GT Flip Flop Stem"? ... And you can reverse which end is on the bars & fork headtube, and gives you a higher stem angle to raise your bars up a couple inches. ?
@@GringineerCycles it is the purple swirl with the u brake. it is waiting for a good home on the east coast of Canada. I will probably never build it myself as i have way too many others to build . cheers
These are the kind of bikes I love finding, low miles and stored inside. LOVE these early 90's GTs and their paint jobs. I didn't know these had a replaceable der. hanger. What's up with those adjuster knobs on the dropouts? Never seen those with vertical drops.
I was just talking to a buddy about the adjusters on the drop outs, neither of us can figure out what they are for with vertical dropouts. I'm going to message some GT collectors to figure out what they are for. Will let you know when I find out.
Full size aluminium derailleur hangers started to appear about 1996 onwards but widespread by 2002 . The hanger in this video is a tab style one and these were mostly made of low carbon steel powdercoated black .
What should I be searching for to buy a replacement rear brake? I ended up with this frame set, but no rear brake. Already made the mistake of thinking it was a standard cantilever brake.
Many of my tools are my own creations as I have a fitter's background . My wheel building tools were made in a workshop . They are better made than Park Tool's ones and are more durable and built for a lifetime , not to a price .
Tengo una para vender, si hay alguien interesado que contacte conmigo. Está en muy buen estado. Un saludo i want to sell one. if anyone is interested please contact me. it is in very good condition! best regards

Looks like it’s for fine tuning how the wheel sits in the dropouts. I agree-very odd.
Wheel alignment but a variaton of the horizontal ones found on many BMX'S .

I once owned the Outpost from that same year . My 1993 Richter had Rockshox Judy XC forks .

The rear brake is a u brake. We unfortantly don't have any in stock at the moment but there are multipe on ebay. Have fun with your build.
Como que faz essa pintura craquelada?
The failure of Shimano MC10 brifters on the Giant 1994 Yukon was common .
