What Happened to the Moss Ball Ecosphere?

  • What happened to the moss ball tree ecosphere? How is this doing today? Is this sustainable long-term? Will the snails live? I think you get the idea!
    I've been getting questions about this ecosphere on every video since it was uploaded. I only pulled a small fraction for the beginning segment, but needless to say, it was time to address them. If there's something else you can think of that I left out of the video, be sure to let me know and I'll do my best to get back to you.
    Also... I'm sorry I had to go and do that to you! ;) You should know by now that it's not my style at all.I have to keep you on your toes though... Don't hate me!

      If you dont feed yer snails calcium, they will actually outgrow their shells and bascally bascally explode. I had that happen to an old snail i got years ago.

    Someone probably mentioned this but if you get cuttle bone (like birds use for their beaks) & stick small pieces into the sand it will assist the snails with the calcium they need to keep their shells in great shape! At least that’s one idea & I don’t wanna go through comments but wanted to mention that.. I have a ton of Marimo moss balls & would love to attempt this project if I found the right container.. the tree kind of reminds me of a bonsai... love it.. I love the pink rams horn shells with the red body & think they would make a cool color addition to your project! They are also some other colors including a beautiful light blue & of course they would not grow too big for the container..... gotta get on your IG! Love what you do.. jen

    The ecosphere looks great but the snails in there look like they need calcium (because of the white spots on their shells) :o I give my snails pieces of egg shells but if you're worried about that looking ugly I'm pretty sure you can add calcium supplement powder to the water but I would research that one though since I personally don't know for sure and I don't wanna give you bad info lol ✌🐌

    Hey dude, casual viewer/subsciber here for awhile as I find this interesting. I went to view your videos, then playlists, casually looking for beginner (true) terrariums that might be interesting and feasible for my circumstances. There wasn't a very clear path in your content. IMO you should create a few playlists that appeal to this kind of approach in title and simplicity. I'm asking myself, what is cheap, easy, and simple for a first time build that is still interesting to look at, while requiring little to no maintenance. I've never built a terrarium before. It's a cool idea, but I'm not really interested in filtering through a bunch of videos or reading a ton to make it happen. I have other projects and interests that take most of my time. I'm just saying, if you offered a clear 'path of least resistance' there's a good chance others, like myself, might build a terrarium and develop their casual curiosity into an active interest.

    • @fantasyfanvii4449
      @fantasyfanvii4449 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't do shrimp unless you have at least 1.5-2 gallons of water and even then you're pushing it. You might try nerite snails if you want something more interesting to look at, but they get (relatively) big so they might muck up your sense of scale. They don't grow super fast though, so if you have an aguarium you can raise some baby nerites (if you can find any) in your jar then move them to the aquarium when they outgrow it. Good luck, have fun, and remember your pets' needs come first.

      If the former, wondering if they'd enjoy a small cuttle shell? `(or a piece of a bought one from a pet shop if you can't find your own on a beach)
      I have some powdered eggshell from when I used to have chickens. I'd save the shells, wash and dry them, then dump them all in a blender until powdered. I'd add this to their feed occassionally.

    I don't say english very well, but I pay so much attention about what you do because I love to have plants for small places and its small animals in it.
    I see your videos and get relax after a long day of hard working in a school.
    I'm learning with you and perhaps one day I will try to send you photos of my small plants.
    I'm Maribug from Brasil and thank you

    Re the calcium for the snails - crack off tiny bits of (dried!) cuttlefish (usually sold for aviary birds) and hide the bits in the sand. They will eat it as required. I used to keep giant land snails and they loved the stuff. Big love from Scotland :)

    Wow! I watch the miniature and I was worried about your moss balls! I was thinking that maybe the glue poisoned the water. I probably don't put glue, just use a thread.

    It is so hard to accept your genius bro. You are so incredibly informal, and the way you present the info is clear and entertaining. Your set ups are all so amazing. Thank you for sharing your special talents with the world of TH-cam! You rock!

      You'd need filter, food and everything I think and it will be a lot more maintenance

    It's nice, but definitely not an Ecosphere. An ecosphere is per definition without any maintenance. Especially a full water change - wtf? My ecosphere is running for more than two years now. Clear water, healthy snails and clear glass.

    just made this beautiful Aquascape. I was wondering why my water has the lightest green hue to it? Is it normal for the marimo ball to leach a little bit of color out? Your's seems to be clear. Thank you and great video!

  • @fishingmasterawesome
    @fishingmasterawesome 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Isn’t that not a true ecosphere then? I thought an ecosphere is sealed and never opened
