Finally got a chance to put an ecosphere inside of a terrarium! I think it turned out great, but as I said in the video, I'm only getting started with ecosphere and there's a lot more terrariums to come. What did you think of this one?
I am curious about the maintenance that ecospheres require. Surely algae eventually grows in the water, right? So the water has to be changed periodically?
I love this! I purchased an oil/vinegar container a couple of years ago when I was in Greece and your design inspires me to use it in this way. :) I began watching your videos about 6 months ago and have made one (native/backyard) terrarium so far.
That could look cool, I think that would make a great decoration in the living room, not on a terrarium shelf, but yeah I think it would be a great idea!

I love the design, who would have thought something as utilitarian as a banana hanger could be put to such good use. As always, your terrarium is a real work of art.
Will such a small, sealed ecosphere be fine? Will its gas levels get imbalanced? Also, I wonder if you could make a lamp out of a container like this: light on the inner sphere, ecosphere on the outer.
If you're interested you can buy sheets of diffusion gel to place over your windows during a video. You can go online to B&H and look for sheets of frosted or 1 stop, 2 stop and so on. Tape them over your windows or lights and it will cut down on the hard reflections on the terrarium. The reflections will still be there, but much softer. You can double of diffusion sheets as well to create an even softer reflection. And it's all reusable. Just a tip from a photographer.
You have waaaaay more patience than I do when it comes to scaping in tiny spaces. I also love your ingenuity with making new tools so you can work in those awkward/tight spaces. Cool stuff, can't wait to see what projects are next!

I've always had an interest in terrariums and various other "iums" but never done it. I think this was just the motivation i needed to finally try it out. Great stuff! ^_^
This is one of my favorites you have done so far! The container is gorgeous and perfect, and those little anubias are the perfect size and pick, they add the detail and the full plant look while the terrarium outside provides the nice mossy plains/backdrop. I think it's lovely and perfectly "balanced" haha, and putting it on the banana hanger is genius because it looks nice but is also relatively cheap and easy to come by. Just perfect thank you!

When I first started watching ecosphere videos, I daydreamed of an autonomous robot traveling a post-apocalyptic wasteland, with a glass tank fixed on its back. Inside is an ecosphere, preserving a tiny fragment of natural ecosystem in world that could otherwise not support it. The robot protects it, studies its development, and waits for the possible day when it can safely be used to restart the biosphere.
these containers are awesome. i have to have one. i had a similar idea for a while and just have not got around to trying it. well, same idea but basically in reverse. I wanted to put a closed terrarium inside of my fish tank.

If you use the Volcano Shrimp in your biosphere they will eat the excess algae so it doesn’t build up on the walls of the glass :)
Idea: Make a terrarium with a ship in a bottle and have the plants “overgrow” the ship and make it look like it had been there for decades.
That could look cool, I think that would make a great decoration in the living room, not on a terrarium shelf, but yeah I think it would be a great idea!

The problem with that would be the amount of heat that the bulb produces. It will most likely bake the mosses inside
Now a non heat producing emitter such as a light emitting diode, (L.E.D) should work just fine but produce a different color of light

A polarizing filter for the lens of the camera would help too since it cuts some reflections
