I just bought 8 Marimo moss balls about two weeks ago. I am about to clean them. I found your video very interesting and informing. I was looking for a video so I could learn how to clean them and I came upon yours. I am truly happy to have watched. Yours is the best one I have watched. I will save it so I can go back once in a while. Thank you
Helpful hint: use vinegar/some salt to clean/scrub that line on the glass. If really stubborn, you can even soak the vase overnight in the sink with water and the vinegar (a big splash of it) but rinse thoroughly before reuse.
What a nifty little plant! I like how you display them. Thanks for going into all this detail about how to properly care for them. Great job using different camera angles, too!
Thank you Autumn! This one was a challenge with the two cameras and figuring out the new setting. I had to play with the camera angle and lighting. The back wall of my kitchen has windows, and it's hard to shoot with the light coming from behind. I'm so happy you enjoyed it! xoxo
I am such a plant person and never ever have I seen these Fantastic little tribbles that grow and divide just like the real ones from Star Trek ha ha. On the wish list for sure. Thank you
They definitely are green acquatic tribbles!!! 😂😂 Just brought my little tribble, Happy, home a few days ago. Now I'm trying to learn how to take care of it as best as I can 🥰
My friend and I both love plants. We end up trading or just giving each other plants 😂 My friend gave my a baby Marino ball and it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m really excited to have it! One thing I haven’t been able to find is how far away can I keep it from the window?
It needs bright light but not direct, not right in the window. Don't keep it in a room with no windows like a bathroom, but you can keep it in a room that has reasonable sunlight. I turn the lights off during the day and see how much sunlight is coming in. If the room has reasonably light with the lights off that seems to be enough light for mine. Enjoy your new little guy!! xoxo
I've recently emptied my fish tank after my final fish died. He was 10. I decided to stop keeping fish once he had passed away. My two marimo balls have been sat there for a couple of days on the wet gravel, still partially soaked in water. I was wondering how to dispose of them and feeling a bit sad about it. After watching your video I'm putting them straight into a jug of water and I'm going to buy a jar for them tomorrow with a small oxygen vent and follow your tips. Happy ending! They will live on! 😀. Thank you so much for this video 🙂
would it be bad for a marimo of I put it in a container with a lid? I have two cats and I want to have one as a pet, but I'm scared that the cats might eat the marimo or take it out of the water to play. But I also don't know if a lid would be harmful for them
you could always buy some screen material and tie it on with a pretty ribbon, or even tack it on with some glue gun drops... even some netted produce bags would work.
Thank you. I got it many years ago and can't remember where. It was probably somewhere like Pier 1 Imports or Homegoods. It's one of my favorite vases for forcing branches. I just tried searching and couldn't find it. If I do I'll let you know. xoxo
@@tyaleimcshane1310 You can add them to a fish tank. They are SO nice in there too... Or add a gold fish to a round ball, but I have heard that goldfish damage them. I have not yet tried to combine them though...
For the white ring buildup on glass or anything else in the tank or bowl. I have found api ph down ( it’s for fish tanks to drop the ph level) on a rag or paper towel straight from the bottle and rubbed on the ring removes that buildup easily. If by any chance a little bit is still there, rinse and repeat. Works wonders and saved a filter on one of my tanks.
Do moss balls need nutrients? Im worrying since i have frogbits in my betta tank, since frogbits is a floating plant, it gets nutrients from the water instead in the substrate. So im worrying if moss balls are gonna compete with frogbits in nutrients
I use fertilizer drops for mine. I can't speak to the competing of nutrients because I don't keep them with other plants. There are people who put them with other plants and even some animals so you may be able to find someone using them that way. xoxo
I had quarantine my marimo moss balls I bought from petco for two days and today I discovered whitish see through like strands hanging vertically on the surface of the water. I dont have a filter for a 2 gallon tank so that is another problem. Can anyone help
It's late but I hope they're better! I have never heard of whitish see through strands, but I'd suspect it's dust on the surface. Good job on quarentining, that's super important for plants but rarely does anyone do it. Have you figured out what is was by now?
But the cold water, does it have be cold like it was in the fridge for 2 3 4 days or normal cold like not to cold and not to warm ? Because at my home is a little bit hot and sometimes it’s very hot .
@@amekhnpiaoliang5875 I just add the cold and room temperature water in the beginning. Then it all comes to room temperature, and they seem happy. If you are especially worried you could add a bit of water from the refrigerator every day to cool the water slightly.
In nature they are naturally rinsed by a river in motion. In a jar there is no water flow and the water becomes stagnant so it must be replaced periodically. xoxo
Never squeeze the algae’s it’s not a sponge they break apart because it’s just a string of tight bound plant. Lightly swish the ball around donor squeeze. This will create brown spots.
The line is evaporated water. Ita nothing more than an old water stain. Its common in tanks that evaporate often. Take a rough sponge and some windex and rinse well. Done ^-^
These are so interesting and unusual. I have never heard about or seen them before. I have such a brown thumb I’d probably just kill them lol. My husband on the other hand would probably have them reproduce and multiply by the dozens! Very interesting video!
I got a moss ball yesterday and they are not moss there are a tipe of algy jently squeeze them in cleaning they love nice cold water they are a tipe of plant you could clean them 1 a week to stop getting brown patches on them they can live up to 100 years and over

I’m getting Marimo balls and I have. A very curious dog so I’m getting a tank with a lid that has a decently sized hole not to big on the lid
This is so calming to watch ❤️

Jill Maurer Hi! I got some today and put them on my bookshelf, they look great with my decor. So glad I learned about these, haha!
So does it matter if the tank or the thing you have then in is small like I'm getting one and idk if I need a big tank

I saw that happen with some of mine and changed their water more regularly. I'm not sure what it is.
I love your container. Where did you find it?
Where did you get the curved jar?
Hi Jill. Super interesting video. I had never heard of these plants. 😍

I have a question, can we put ice in the marimo moss ball tank if the water is quite a little bit hot ?
