Dooku and Sidious were using each other to further their own goals. Sidious just betrayed him first. Dooku was suppose to lose his hand to Anakin, but lost both.
To be fair, that’s basically the whole point of the rule of two. The Apprentice uses the Master to learn as much as they can, and the Master uses the Apprentice to further their plans to end the jedi/personal research into the dark side. They both are supposed to basically play a game of chicken where they try to get as much out of the other before either the Apprentice challenges the Master, or the Master believes the Apprentice has outlived their usefulness and begins training a replacement Apprentice and discards the previous.

Dooku never gave himself over (no yellow eyes), he just wanted to end the corruption in the senate. Palpatine had the resources. He wasn’t a typical Sith.

Master of the scene, yes. Even in LotR, he makes for a better villain than a great eye, lidless, wreathed in flame. In fact, if that badass wizard wasn't taking orders from Sauron, I'm not even sure the latter would work. Not on screen.
For example, if you watched the Hobbit trilogy before ever seeing LotR or reading the books, Sauron would simply be too abstract. He really depends on the context that is given in LotR.
I don’t think Dooku would have been able to fool Qui-Gon had he survived the fight with Maul on Naboo. It’s really interesting to think about how things would have been different had Qui-Gon lived and could have guided Anakin better than the diminished Jedi order

Part of the reason Dooku fell to the dark side was his obsession with finding the Sith for their role in Qui-Gon's death. Even if he fell to the dark side without Qui-Gon having to die. It would have been the force that guided Qui-Gon. Since it did not guide him to Sidious being in such close proximity. Doubt it would have guided him to Tyrannus. The force required the Jedi's destruction for their hubris.
If the Jedi Council started to heed the force and stop their blind devotion to tradition. You can bet the force would have led the Jedi to the Sith among them before billions of lives were lost.
His fall was the wrong turn for him at the wrong time, which is a shame. Even as a Sith he probably would have been far better at governing than Palpatine had been. Dooku actually cared about wanting to end the corruption. Palpatine only gave lip service to these things to help grease his passage into power, and upon achieving it, simply handed the governing off to others because he couldn't be bothered to do it himself.

The tragedy of Dooku. Dooku is someone who made a deal with the devil and lost. George Lucas said Darth Sidious was the devil himself. Dooku did not like the direction of the Republic or the Jedi. Instead of slow and small changes he went for big quick changes by becoming the Sith apprentice to Darth Sidious. However, once Dooku made this decision he was trapped in the dark side of the force. Dooku was never going to be powerful enough to overthrow Sidious so in time Sidious would get rid of him for a stronger apprentice.
Dooku was set up from the start to fail, Sidious considered Darth Maul more of a loss than Dooku and that's wild, Dooku was only needed to lead the CIS and when it came to the bitter end he was tossed like nothing, that's the fate of the Sith

One thing I wonder is why the reason/excuse for Dooku losing to Anakin in Episode 3 is "age caught up to him" or "he got old" when for any other Sith or Jedi who are extremely powerful they just seem to get stronger as they age. Sidious, Yoda, Luke, etc all get far more powerful since they use the force to boost themselves physically. So why is it when it comes to Dooku he "got old and weak"?

Dooku was so powerful, almost equal to Yoda. Yet in TCW gets his ass beat regularly by Asokha, Obiwan and Anakin.

To be fair TCW did massive injustice to the villains in the show making them like 80s comic book characters.
Maybe discuss the relationship between dooku, maul, savage, sidious and ventress. I never understood why when ventress was revealed to be alive to dooku /when he was supposed to have her killed, did he not try work with her to defeat sidious? He seems like he genuinely cared for her as an apprentice. As well as why talzin allow 3 of her only legacies (maul, savage, ventress) try kill each other? Surely she would want them all to survive? As well as how did maul and dooku compare especially both being students of sidious. Why would sidious let maul live time and time again.

He wasn't a true sith and never did anything evil. That's why his eyes didn't change. HE wanted to use the dark to save the light. He saw that Yoda was just as much of a threat to the future of the light side as Palpatine
That first statement is false, the guy had good intentions at heart however he collaborated with greedy people that made billions suffer, made general grievous into a monster we know of, he tried to kill Padme and took every order from Sidious no matter how evil it was and killed Jedi along the way, he might have had several great points the Jedi overlooked or straight up ignored but saying he did nothing wrong is wild
@@Eric6761 wrong and evil are very different things. Sometimes people use what we would deem as the wrong means to achieve justifiable ends. Didn't say I agreed with him on everything... They never once show him do anything evil. He even tries to explain himself and not fight with Yoda, Anakin and Obi-Wan. He was right that they just didn't understand the grand scheme of things. He did... He knew the Jedi order was corrupt and the light side of the force needed to be protected. He did what was necessary. The character is literally written that way and his eyes never turned Sith because he never does anything evil. Look it up

Exponential is a word that describes growth rate. So it does not make sense to say a single change is exponential even if that change is a doubling of the quantity.
I doubt dooku was equal in power to Yoda. Yoda didn't struggle with dooku like he did with sidious. I could be wrong but I doubt sidious passed yoga in episode 1 in terms of power. Yoda almost beat sidious in episode 3.

This just goes to show just how much potential Anakin really had. Sidious admitted to Yoda that Anakin could become more powerful than either of them. Sidious freely admitting that someone else could become stronger than him is no minor thing and if he's really that much stronger than Dooku and Yoda then Anakin could have become a force God basically.
Anakin humiliated the Gods of mortis, granted: It was only in an specific place that amped his powers but still, the guy really put them to shame and a theoretical Anakin Skywalker full potential managed to not beat but slaughter the whole Jedi council and Palpatine which said feat was said to be only possible if Plagueis and Sidious worked together and that's an big If. Anakin full potential would have become an amazing deity with powers that would embarrass even the strongest Jedi and Sith
Dooku's greatest weakness, when embracing the Dark Side, was time.
Sure, he was a prideful man, but what really worked against him was the point in his life, when he chose to join the Sith. One of the benefits of being a Jedi, for example, is longevity; an unnaturally extended lifespan. He began his journey as a Sith lord when he was in his seventies, and that prolonged, enhanced vitality was the cost of the instant gratification which the Dark Side provides. Now, honestly, Sidious had no intention to keep Dooku around for the formation of the empire. That much can be certain.
The problem with Darth Tyrannus is likely that he didn't consider the ramifications, the run on costs of embracing the Dark Side so late into his life. His Force abilities would be amplified, but at the expense of his physical vitality, the simulation of 'rapid aging'.
Now, as a lightsaber duelist, I personally think Dooku is among one of the best there was, being the de facto Form 2 master. He was so good, that Sidious was afraid of his apprentice, after his duel with Yoda on Geonosis. Would he have been powerful enough to overwhelm Sidious, after he killed his master? No.
But I theorize that if Dooku had about the same 10 years worth or so of training and dueled Palpatine BEFORE he usurped Plagueis' position, I think that would be a much closer match in power. If he had more time to refine his skills in the Dark Side, with the same lightsaber proficiency, in a younger body (being around 70, instead of 83 in Revenge of the Sith).
..But that is just my speculation.
Sidious didn't train Dooku in all the ways of the Sith since Dooku was just a temporary apprentice and Sidious was waiting for Anakin to got nuts 😂

Being Sith, or at least a Darksider, at that point. Mace woulda just used Vaapadd and his myriad other abilities an owned Dooku since his style is custom made to be anti Darksider, especially anyone at all Sith
@@robertagu5533 Dooku would have been well aware of Vaapad. He could have simply not used dark side abilities and amped his physical attributes with that energy. Giving Windu no advantage.
I would say he beats Windu in during the Episode 1 timeframe. Most likely wins at the beginning of the clone wars, and loses to Windu by the point he lost to Anakin....for the same reason he lost to Anakin.
I really dont think Windu was better with a saber. He just had an advantage that Dooku could negate. Makashi was the dueling form, and Dooku was the best at it. Dooku has every advantage other than age...but that only comes into play during the last 1 year he was alive.
Yoda believing he is equal basically confirms that, unless you believe Windu beats Yoda as well. I do not believe he does.
I may be wrong, but I believe the order of power would be as follows (Before the tipping point where Dooku's power declines)
1 Sidious
2 Yoda
3 Dooku
4 Windu
My reasoning for putting Yoda above Dooku is simply that I think Yoda having reservations about killing his padawan would keep him from going all out during their confrontation. He also had to split focus between Dooku and protecting the injured Kenobi and Skywalker. Without those reservations, or trying to redeem Dooku, he could have killed him if he went all out from the onset. Ataru is very taxing, and Yoda doesnt have the stamina in his old age to fight an extended battle.
@noahblevins9569 agree on some it. That "age catches up.." thing is bout only reason Yoda failed to deliver vs Sideous. Else Yoda woulda FINALLY killed Sideous as intended. Even Palpatine elected to finally cede that how good he was himself with the laser blade Yoda was just much better after centuries of perfecting his form so well Yoda pretty much was one the few beings with no need of practice... like EVER anymore an hadn't probably for decades or even centuries by that point of their dual. Luckily for the Sith he more then made up for it in power. Which is what counted even more...
Always saw Dooku or Windu vs "x" comparable Force user being VERY situational. It's ALSO think why Dooku kept 1 uping his notable enemies like Obi wan an Anakin much as he did an kept them from finally beating him for so long.. since some things like growing power an experience can only be beaten down by skill an chance for so long. Even knowing of powers or abilities is NO guarantee of being able to beat them. Anakin was like that awhile with Dooku before he finally learned all the latter's tricks while improving his own. But it was raw power MORE that finally wore him down.. the 1 thing Makashi lacked that Anakins form excelled at. An I'm reasonably sure HAD Anakin made Master, an he was gonna in time had he never fallen he'd just been another Battle Master, I'm thinking "next" Mace Windu anyways. Cuz remember Mace ALSO fights with a similar basic style.. plenty of power an aggression. Just super refined as fitting for his Master level. That an think Mace might sorta hold back similar to Yoda. Seeing him as a frenemie instead of a lost Jedi kindred soul or strait up enemy an traitor. Which sure Kenobi probably came to think an Anakin must've thought for sure, since there for most part was not much more then bad blood between Annie an Dooku

I dont know that I would call Dooku a situational fighter. I think the main weakness of Makashi was when fighting multiple opponents. I presume being the dueling form, it was primarily intended for 1v1. Dooku was able to overcome the weaknesses of the form though, that much has been made clear.
I dont think Windu really had a weakness, but would receive an "amp" against darksiders.
I personally think Dooku vs Windu would be one of the more interesting hypothetical fights. I can see situations that can lead to it going either way.
If Dooku gets arrogant, and wants to put Windu in his place, I can see him doing something rash like Anakin would.
If he gets frustrated and leans into anger, I can see Vaapad turning it around.
If he keeps his wits about him, and fights smart (as he almost always did), I believe he wins.
Even if Dooku is the superior fighter, shatterpoint (when read correctly) could also serve Windu up a win.

Dooku was extremely powerful. EXTREMELY powerful and skilfull. Dooku was close to Yoda in power. I agree Sidious just gained more and more power and strength. Dooku was getting weak and tired in second year of Clone Wars. By third he was completely weak. Had Plagueis choose him instead of Sidious he would become so much powerful. He and Sidious would fight for power. Imagine the scenario. Great holocron. May the Force be with you too😊
To be fair, Dooku may’ve been allowing Palpatine to harm him because he feared the further retribution that would come.

I think a hypathetical full potential Dooku could certainly give, say, ROTS Sidious an absolute hell of a fight and possibly even win, the main issue is that Sidious was far from reaching his full potential in ROTS and would, putting aside legends, reach his zenith around movies 4 - 6. Still, a full potential Dooku would've been a total menace during the Clone Wars for certain.
I think Palpatine reached close to his peak in ROTS because the darkness of Coruscant, the turn of the chosen one and the death around order 66 empowered Sidious to new heights

I think Qui-Gon was the one best positioned to fix the order but if Dooku hadn’t fallen then yeah he would have had Qui-Gon as a close confidant to turn to for advice

Dooku was a better duelist than palpatine by far. Palpatine is the more powerful force user.
Your first statement is objectively false. Even IF there was an argument between their dueling abilities, to say Dooku was better "by far" is so absurd it makes you sound silly and unaware of the lore. Dooku was an EXCEPTIONAL duelist, and yes, there is a bit of an argument you could make for Dooku having "a slight edge", but you'd still be on the defensive end in that debate.
People focus so much on Sidious' insane Force Power, that they either ignore or are oblivious to his Saber skill. He not only was one of the rare beings who MASTERED EVERY saber form (not "knew", he "mastered" them all), he was also amongst the elite S-Tiers of duelists in SW. And this was all before the Original Trilogy, and doesn't even consider the vast advances he made in every aspect of his powers over the years after ROTS.
In addition to Sidious' extreme physical capabilities, his use of Force Speed and Strength makes him even exponentially more dangerous with the blade.
Sidious dog-walked Dooku in the beginning of their time as Master and Apprentice, to such an extent Dooku was left in shock. He had never imagined someone could be so much stronger and better than what he had seen of himself and Yoda during his decades in the Order, and this was a large part of what made him turn AND bow to Sidious as "Master". He realized in that moment that the Jedi were no match for Palpatine and what he had coming for them, similar to the revelation Yoda had during the end of his duel with Sidious.
Sorry, but the lore does not agree with you on this. Dooku could have put up a fine duel with Sidious physically for a time, but not to a win, and if Sidious accesses the speed and strength and agility he could attain during a duel, Dooku would be helpless. This has already been played out.
