Correct me if I'm wrong, but at 11:40, I think Huge Power doesn’t double the base Attack stat directly. Instead, it doubles the final Attack stat after all calculations, which makes a big difference. In fact, doubling after the calc gives you a much bigger number than just doubling the base stat!
As far as I know, that's indeed how it works. The major difference is that it's doubling _IVs and EVs_ in addition to the base stats, which makes for a much bigger total!
@@HalcyonSerenade indeed, it is also the main reason why a base 74 SpAtk Clamperl reaches an effective of base 180 SpAtk once it's holding Deep Sea Tooth (which doubles SpAtk for Clamperl)
mega dudunsparce, otherwise known as dudududunsparce, gains the ability hungry boi and is able to eat your opponent's pokemon like cramorant and spit them back at them
That would be the best ability ever if it does contact to a pokemon it eats it up and takes 50% less damage from it and the next turn it spits that pokemon at its teammate as a 100 base power main type of the eaten pokemon attack so if it ate a charmander its 100 bp fire etc.
Mega Incineroar Y. It’s ability, “Fuck you”, lowers the attack stat of the Pokémon on opposing team every turn it is on the field, and ignores abilities and items. Also, the stat changes are permanent. Its other mega, Mega Incineroar X, can prevent the opposing Pokémon from using status moves or switching out. NOT only that, even if it leaves the field, the opposing Pokémon are still forced to stay on the field for 1-2 turns(though they can now use status moves), basically almost ensuring that Incineroar can use another fake out. When it comes to Mega Incineroar Y’s stat spread, it gains plus 20 in its def, and 80 in its sp.def. Mega Incineroar X on the other hand, shoves all 100 stat points in its attack, cause why not. (Another edit: Mega Incineroar Z’s ability allows Incineroar to immediately use moves that would otherwise require a certain condition to be met. The drawback is that damaging moves will only be 75% power. It gains 50 stat points in its attack, 20 points in its def, and 30 points in its sp.def. Idk anymore)
I'm sure you've got these planned months in advance, but I'd love an episode on what the best held item is in Pokemon. Feels like it'd be one of the hardest episodes to do!

I'm still disappointed that they didn't make Mega Lucario a special attacker with the ability Mega Launcher... They should have had a Mega Lucario X and Mega Lucario Y, because Mega Launcher is just too thematically fitting for Lucario, its borderline CRIMINAL they didn't give the ability to it in some way. For context, Mega Launcher boosts the power of "aura and pulse moves." Lucario's signature move was Aura Sphere, which is boosted by Mega Launcher... Lucario also learns Dragon Pulse and Heal Pulse in its level up moveset. It can ALSO learn Water Pulse, Dark Pulse (and the before-mentioned three) via TM. The ONLY moves boosted by Mega Launcher that Lucario _can't_ learn are Terrain Pulse and Origin Pulse (the latter being Kyogre's signature ability, which can't be learned by _any_ Pokemon with the Mega Launcher ability).
It fits from a gameplay perspective, but definitely not thematically. Lucario is not holding a cannon of any kind that would justify it having Mega Launcher
@@mr.potato Just because its called "Mega Launcher" doesn't mean the name has to be taken _literally._🙄 All the description says is "Powers up Aura and Pulse moves." It could EASILY be interpreted as just having powerful projectiles. The only reason anyone attributes it to cannons is because Mega Blastoise and Clawitzer are the only Pokemon with the ability. Pokemon with the ability _Rain Dish_ don't need to have any form of dish on their head to be able to have the ability. Pokemon with _Clear Body_ aren't transparent. Basculin has the ability Rock Head, yet its head is not made of rocks. _Ability names aren't always literal._
@@lasercraft32 All of the Pokemon that get Rain Dish make sense (except maybe the Tentacool line) since they all use a part of their body to catch rain,. Rock Head is not literal in the first place, just meaning they have a head hard as rock since Marowak and Bagon also get it. Clear Body makes complete sense on all of the Pokemon that get it because "clear" in this context means they have no flaws on their surfaces, not that they are transparent. Even if they didn't make sense, most of them are Hidden Abilities, which are meant to bend the rules of what ability a Pokemon should have in order to give it a different role or competitive viability. There's a big difference between a Hidden Ability and a standalone ability that defines the Pokemon it is on. I can't see a reason why Mega Launcher would define Lucario in any way.
I have obviously had some kind of inkling for any of these "What is the best X" videos even when I have predominantly followed singles competitive through the years, but this was really not even a contest in my mind.
I haven’t been keeping track, but Swampert really didn’t get enough results to even be an honorable mention? He’s great in singles and on paper I’d expect him to do well…
Singles is a tough point to make because Wolfey only focuses on VGC, so this list is “what’s the best mega evolution (in vgc)?”, rather than overall. M Swampert certainly isn’t bad, but compared to some of the megas on this list, it likely didn’t have as much success in VGC
swampert is both whislt also probaly having the same base stat total as incenaroar cause they both starters so it could really go anyway always depends on singles or doubles
watch as Legends Z-A introduces Mega Incineroar, with a unique ability that harshly lowers the attack and sp attack of all opposing pokemon whenever it hits the field
I assume (slash hope) that the starters for the next two Legends games will continue using the same generations for the starters, which would mean that yes, Litten is one of the options (next to Snivy and Totodile), the other being Tepig (next to Chikorita and Popplio). But I'd much rather see regional forms still, as Mega Evolution is my least favorite of the gimmicks. It's too likely to result in broken Pokémon, gives an equal boost to all users regardless of how much they need it (resulting in most being better yet still useless due to competition), it's not available in most games and it's so limiting in terms of teambuilding. Not only does it take away your item slot, you can also use only one Mega Pokémon. Imagine being able to only use one regional form per battle. That sucks! Anyway, a regional Incineroar that's Fire/Fighting seems obvious, but since that's an automatic gag reflex for Pokémon fans, I could see a Fire/Poison one. With a double weakness (it's not a quadruple weakness, by the way, it's quadruple damage, get it right), Incineroar becomes more volatile, but the typing itself is still very good defensively, despite what Salazzle's frailty would lead one to believe. Of course a regional form could forgo Intimidate and change the way Incin plays even further, perhaps even counter standard Incineroar somehow. I would absolutely love to see a same-BST reimagining of the VGC's best Pokémon. But my hopes are still on Fire/Steel TrickRoom-oriented regional Emboar, maybe with Mirror Armor or something.

11:35 To clarify, Mawile's attack stat is doubled. Not its base stat; its raw attack stat, after calculations like IVs, EVs, and stat boosts. For example, Azumarill has only base 50 attack. But after all the calculations are said and done, with huge power, Azumarill has _effectively_ base 150 attack. That's a 200% increase. Using the same formula, Mega Mawile's effective base attack is **259.** Literally higher than the interger for base stat totals allows. It is hands down the strongest physical pokemon in existence, ever. Period.

I started playing Pokémon in Gen 7 with very little exposure to Megas I started conpetetivw at the tail end of Gen 8. And I still knew kangaskan would be the top. (Assuming you aren’t pulling a fast one on me since I haven’t finished the video)
The problem is probably that base Blaziken is already fantastic, so "do I run an item or the Mega Stone" is a legitimate question, especially in Gen 7 when Z-moves are a thing.
Incineroar recieves signature move black flash that is a dark type dragon ascent with no draw backs and prevents status moves while giving an omni boost and dot damage to the opponent and no mega stone needed so mega incineroar can be used like normal and mega incineroar has ability to lower attack and spattack every time it switches in with regenerator + magic guard to prevent stealth rock damage and toxic
mega shuckle has no weaknesses has 400 base defense can only use 1 attacking move which is a signature and 3 defensive moves defense curl protect etc signature move can do super effective damage to any tyoe whislt also aving 100pp they type will be ????
Framing Parental Bound as 2 chances to crit is a bit disingenious, in the same way that it isn't just a 50% increase, but has other effects due to being split. You crit more often, but it reduces the effect of a crit, since only part of your damage crits, especially when the second part crits. Critting the first hit gives you 4/3s of the damage of a normal attack, critting the second hit gives you 7/6 of the damage of a normal attack (which are 1.333... and 1.1666... respectively) compared with 1.5x of a normal crit. That actually means that a low damage roll on both hits, while the second one crits can do less damage than a high damage roll on both without a crit (7/6*0.85=0.99166...). This is obviously still really good, effectively it condenses the damage range and makes both low rolls and high rolls less likely while overall obviously being good for the average, but it could have been made clearer how it interacts with crits exactly imo.
Always love learning from a former world champion! It always makes so much sense to why something would be better in certain formats than others! Love learning about this as it shows what really makes certain mons shine! Hope you keep creating more! 😄

Hi Wolfey, have you ever played anything goes on Pokémon showdown? I was wondering what you would think the best Pokémon team would be, allowing all Pokémon and gimmicks over the years. I think it would be super interesting to see your perspective and what kind of team you would go with! Maybe you could make a video of climbing the ranks of anything goes on showdown, and I think there is so much potential for unique match ups like ash greninja vs fluttermane or something like zacian vs xerneas, things like that that we won’t normally see in official tournaments.
My bad I meant uhhhhhhh digimon showdown That said, I think there have been other pokemon creators that use showdown and didn't attract trouble from Nintendo so I hope it would be fine for Wolfey 😬
As someone who never played or watched competitive pokemon when megas were in the game, I felt like a genius when I hopped onto showdown, discovered parental bond, found out kangaskhan got fake out and power up punch, and ran scrappy kangaskhan to beat ghost types but also gave it knock off for when I mega’d. It gave me great predictive power because if they tried to predict a mega and fake out, I could just not mega making the fake out hit anyway, not mega and body slam for big damage and a para, or mega right away and knock off to just KO a ghost types. There were always so many options with Kangaskhan that I never felt like it was under performing. I didn’t even realize that I wasn’t a genius until I played someone on showdown, and after I clicked mega evolve fake out, they said, “Mega. Fake out.” And I was like, “Nice prediction.” And then I went for power up punch, and before I attacked they typed out, “Power up punch.” And I was like, “Woah, how’d you do that?” And they basically predicted everything I was about to do. I have no idea how obvious it was because I had never seen that strat before, but it’s incredibly fun and easy to use.
Thanks for making the videos you do, and I understand reading through your comments must be stressful at times, but there are plenty of people who appreciate the work you do, especially when that time could be spent practicing for your next event.
All WolfeyVGC videos the past long while have had great editing, but this video is so much better still. Quality is magnificent kudos to the team putting these together really.
Its actually correct, sylveons ability turns all normal type moves into fairy type moves. Quick attack was common on it since it was priorty and got stab
Mega Mawile could have effectively 344 attack at level 50. I’m pretty sure that blows every other Pokémon out of the water. That’s like 100 more attack than Mewtwo X. The only thing that comes close is Mega Medicham, which has the same ability. Insane stat number.

It actually lowers all their stats, also accuracy by -6, lowers all their moves pp to 1, makes fake out have no drawbacks and it now has 180 power
Now this is a good Incineroar comment XD
@@sometijngnah, we gotta keep it balanced fr fr

I'm sure you've got these planned months in advance, but I'd love an episode on what the best held item is in Pokemon. Feels like it'd be one of the hardest episodes to do!
seconding this!!
Small correction
Adaptability doesn't ADD the doubling to the stand options. It replaces the number that STAB multiplies attacks by. STAB did 1.5 but with adaptability it does 2x instead.
Mathematically, it's essentially a free life orb boost
thx man
yeah idk why people value it so high. If i had an ability that did a 50% boost, that is 1.5x1.5=2.25 damage increase, vs just 2x increase
@@ShadowSlith789because having a 80 base power move be turned into a 160 base power move is a big deal especially given how high the damaging stats of those pokemons are

The gunshots are celebrating Mega Incin being the best mega
@@mr.potato Just because its called "Mega Launcher" doesn't mean the name has to be taken _literally._🙄
All the description says is "Powers up Aura and Pulse moves." It could EASILY be interpreted as just having powerful projectiles.

Period.
Gen 8 Zacian-C actually has a higher attack stat if you include the intrepid sword boost

The music slaps, great choice!

He cant say 'showdown' if he doesnt want to get on nintendo's bad side
My bad I meant uhhhhhhh digimon showdown
That said, I think there have been other pokemon creators that use showdown and didn't attract trouble from Nintendo so I hope it would be fine for Wolfey 😬
We know he uses it to practice. Pretty much every competitive player does. But only for VGC. He doesn't have the time for other metas

We need a mega-Incineroar. It's about time that mon got some love

I’m just surprised he remembered cuz sylveon isn’t very memorable in competitive as much as fire cat or mushroom

Mega Mawile could have effectively 344 attack at level 50. I’m pretty sure that blows every other Pokémon out of the water. That’s like 100 more attack than Mewtwo X. The only thing that comes close is Mega Medicham, which has the same ability. Insane stat number.
