one reason Darth Bane was PO'd at his apprentice, Zanna, is she kept putting him off. his health was starting to fail and he wanted her to challenge him while he was still strong. the thinking is by waiting until Darth Bane was weak and then challenging him, she would not really prove her worth of being the Master. the same would have been said of Palpatine getting Plaguies drunk and then killing him would be a hallow victory over his master and not testing his dark side abilities.
Darth Zannah did face Darth Bane in a formal challenge combat the Bane wanted to happen. According to Darth Plagueis that concept only lasted about 5 centuries though. They broke tradition or you could say evolved and started using cunning, stealth and deception to take the mantle.
I don’t agree drunk or not if one is truly powerful in the force specifically the dark side they would anticipate the deception. Plagueis let his guard down. By the rule of two if you can’t detect and deflect threats to you, you are no longer strong enough in the force to be the true master and it’s time to go. The real downfall of both bane and plagueis was their attempt to circumvent the rule of two and trying to extend their life through another body of need be. They tried it and failed

Your video made me realise how instrumental Plagueis is in the Sith Grand Plan. He put the seeds Palpatine built upon. Plagueis' death by Palpatine is like Fire Lord Azulon was killed by Ozai in Avatar. Both were killed in their sleep, well Plagueis was asleep when attacked and drunk so that he failed to defend himself. Azulon was killed by a colourless, odorless poison.(described in the Avatar comics) And Azulon ruled during most part of the war. By Ozai's ascension, the war was more or less won.
It was Senator Pax Teem who hired the Maladins who severely injured Darth Plagueis. King Veruna nuked Sojurn, but Plagueis was warned by Jabba and he got off the planet unscathed. He then sent a holo message to Veruna which made him vacate the throne. Then Plagueis got his revenge on Naboo.
In the prequel trilogy, why did the Jedi council say that the sith had not been around for a thousand years... What event made them think that they had wiped out the sith? Or what exactly happened... If plagueis was around during that entire time...
I believe it was the events that led to Bane and the Rule of Two that lulled the Jedi into believing the Sith were no more. Also, Plagueis was well-verses in hiding his force presence, much like his apprentice Palpatine would later emulate to pose as the chancellor, and he went by the name Hego Demask. Him and Sidious were literally hiding right under the Jedi's noses. Between the dark side clouding the Jedis vision and their own hubris, they never had an inkling that the Sith had never truly been destroyed, but only went into hiding.
Mainly arrogance had the Jedi convinced that the sith were extinct. Also the rule of 2 served as an effective ruse - the Jedi hadn't encountered sith, so they assumed the sith were gone. Really, there were just very few sith and they were effectively in hiding
This may be a dumb question but here goes… How could Plagueis drink wine to the point of drunkenly passing out on a couch if he had to wear a respirator at all times to keep him alive? From the artwork I’ve seen, this respirator was similar to Darth Vader’s in that it completely covered his nose and mouth. Vader could take his respirator off briefly while in bacta tanks and his pressurized pod on his Star Destroyer. Getting back to Plagueis… If he was so dependent on his respirator that he had to sleep with it on or he’d die, how could he get drunk with it covering his mouth without being in some sort of pressurized chamber? Not sure if this is addressed in the novel or anything, just curious! Great video as always! Thanks for doing what you do!

yes, toward the end of the book Darth Bane was suffering from some neurodegenerative condition which he flexed his left hand to keep if from locking up. the very last thing in the novel shows Darth Zanna standing there and it saying her left hand slightly flexed.

I love getting Pre Phantom Menance Star Wars content. It would be really great if we got Tales of the Sith showing Darth Plagueis and Tales of the Jedi showing Sifo Diyas.
My only problem with the book is the rule of 2, there would be some overlap between where maul was trained by sidious and where sidous would’ve been plaguies’ apprentice. Sure you can make the argument that sidous was just starting his master plan but I think maul wouldn’t have been easy to hide once he revealed him to the separatists. Now if palp killed him right after he was elected to chancellor maybe it could work but even then I think what’s more likely is plagueis had this master plan that he had started setting in motion (uniting the trade federation into agreance with rebelling, getting palpatine elected as senator of Naboo) but was stricken down just before the blockade on Naboo and palpatine took plagueis’ plan, tweaked it, and ran with it
This was definitely addressed in the book. The rule of two was not broken because Maul was not considered a Sith. He was a force sensitive assassin who would be filled in on the Master Plan. Maul actually revealed the Grand Plan to a force sensitive user who he was supposed to kill. Sideous exiled him for a time for doing so.
No Plagueis became cocky. The novel said he called on the Force like a storm. Then he stopped. Although he could revive his test subjects from death, he wanted to see if he could do the same to himself.
Was the drink Red rum? (Murder backwards) maybe Plagueis should have used the death sight on Sidious, then without that respirator they both not only end the other but the Bane lineage too, so Anakin won't turn to the dark side or kill the tuskin raiders because Sidious didn't pay them to capture and torture Anakin's mom.
Force Lightning worked once???! Plagueis probably wasn’t afraid of Palpatine cause he only taught him the lightning thing as a prank but Sheeve made it work. Once.
If there's a 'glass is half-full' aspect to "The Acolyte," it's that it caused me to read "Plaguis." Well, it was an audiobook, so listened to. It was really good. I started the books with (i forget their name) aliens from another galaxy that have a Hellraiser Cenobite thing going on, but i got bored halfway through the first book.
Wave - Can you please cover how a Jedi or Sith Temple is created? Also, is there any Grey Jedi or Dark Jedi during the years of Anakin and Luke Skywalker ?
I know this is a question that isn’t really about plagueis but more darth maul. do we know why mail in the clone wars didn’t go back to his saber staff? i was rewatching the clone wars and thought about it? didn’t he train with it? he would have to change his fighting style to do so?
I heard Plagueis was heavily into Abba, to the point where it was really interfering with work. So the story goes, Plagy(that's what they called him) went allll " everything that has happened has done so according to my design" and s*** like that, in the middle of getting his narrow head chopped off by Darth Bumbledick. It was epic.
I remember when Yoda told Anakin to be mindful of his visions, as trying to avoid them he could be stepping into them. Maybe Qui-gon could have raised Anakin better, or by doing so taking him out would be more damaging than letting Obiwan train him. But this is just speculation, what I find interesting, is that maybe Plaigues accidentally set the Sith demise.
@frenzalrhomb6919 "Darth Plagueis was a dark lord of the sith. So powerful and so wise. He could use the force to influence the midichlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side. He could even keep the ones he cared about from dying." "He could actually save people from death?" "The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some considered to be unnatural." "What happened to him?" "He became so powerful. The only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew. Then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. It's ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself." "Is it possible to learn this power?" "Not from a Jedi."
@@Ravenfanatic5 Thank you very, very much. Did you do that from memory alone? I remembered only about a quarter or so of that short piece of the script, but I don't think I can remember that many lines from ANY movie, much less a Star Wars movie. Kudos to you, good Sir!!
Why would the Darkside suddenly advise Darth Sidious to kill Darth Plageuis if Darthe Bane didnt approve of such a cowardly way of killing your master?
It would be interesting if we could have seen an alternate version if the story. One where Plaugis lived longer. How might that have changed the story?
If he lived longer he likely would have lived forever. Either that or chosen one shenanigans would have been to defeat Plageius who likely would have wiped out the Jedi Council. Anakin would have become a lot more of a commodity at that point.
I just watched clone wars movie and I think it would be awesome if you would do a theory on what if Boba Fett went with count Douku on Geonosis after Jango died and trained with him
I kind of wish we would've gotten just a little but of Plagueis in episode 1 of this 6 movie series. I'm glad they never made another movie after Return!
If the Acolyte was to make a return and lead directly up to the beginning of the phantom Menace it would be nice to see what is being said here to actually be seen...live action
Idk if I’d say Plagueis was “alive and well” during TPM lol he was living on a respirator and had to consume through his nose Alive? Yes. Well? I don’t think so lol
No Palpatine made it sound like the legend of Darth Plagueis was like 1000-10000 years old, not 100. If it was 100 years old Yoda would obviously have outlived him by centuries. Silly start to a theory.
If there were Sith developing the ability to kill with the Force, surely there were some rogue Jedi experimenting with using the Force to...give people physical pleasure too. I want that story too.
And you're telling me that Palpatine can face off with this guy? Seriously? Look. I'm a fan of Sidious . But come on. If Sidious had found out that Plageius had survived, he would be pissing himself while having a panic attack.
Plagueis was powerful and skilled but his power and skill was more of an alchemist rather than pure offensive power. It's unclear if Palpatine would have beat him in a straight up fight but it's likely possible Sidious was more powerful in terms of fighting and offensive force ability..
@05goode That does not mean anything. The only one who can make that definitive statement would be George Lucas. What we do know is Lucas has said outright that Palpatine is the most powerful Sith Lord ever. Now he never specifies exactly when he "claims" this title, but during the Phantom Meance, Sidious was basically in his prime. It's feasible to say Palpatine in a straight-up fight would have beat Plagueis. But Sidious is also super smart. A direct fight would have been too close and too big a risk to himself and his plans. More safe to kill him when you know he can't fight back.
The way Palpatine tells the story gives it a lot more gravitas, when the real the Tragedy of Darth Plaguies the Wise was that his apprentice killed him while he lay passed out on the couch after an all-night bender. The moral of the story: even if you are a Sith Lord, drink responsibly.

Force Lightning worked once???! Plagueis probably wasn’t afraid of Palpatine cause he only taught him the lightning thing as a prank but Sheeve made it work. Once.
Do a full history timeline of the lightsaber from orgins to modern day
what was dooku opinion of plaguis if any?
You could tell Plagueis was afraid of paying child support to Shmi
Can we get full story about Jaina Solo?
The Hundred Year Darkness and the Lettow War.
That is the Second and First Great Schisms.
Plagueis is easily the best SW book in my opinion. It's kinda crazy how good it is
The Yuuzhan Vong
@@remc0s yeah them.
it's these moments that you mention that also have me going back to the movies to look for the details...
Can you do more of the ancient Sith.
Especially Sith sorcery and why it lost favor in the Rule of Two.
Thanks
You mentioned a possible theory of Tulak Hord being Ajunta’s apprentice in a prior video. Could you explain that more?
Plagueis: The Phantom Menace... Brilliant
Wave - Can you please cover how a Jedi or Sith Temple is created? Also, is there any Grey Jedi or Dark Jedi during the years of Anakin and Luke Skywalker ?
This is great! :D Really great. We can imagine everything. I think KOTOR era is excellent. May the Force be with you too😊
I know this is a question that isn’t really about plagueis but more darth maul. do we know why mail in the clone wars didn’t go back to his saber staff? i was rewatching the clone wars and thought about it? didn’t he train with it? he would have to change his fighting style to do so?
This is really interesting ❤
Cool wish that book is adapted to a single season event on d plus or movie. Should it be live action or animated?
Love the videos
It was Senator Pax Teem that put Darth Plagueis in the mask.
Would love more holocrons on the unknown aspects of star wars like the wills and the force preastes's
Obviously Lucas never meant to have plaguis as a contemporary of Palpatine, since the latter tells Anakin if he knows the "legend"of Plagueis.
"Did you ever hear the story of Darth Plagueis the Wise?" . . .
"No"
"I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a sith legend."
@@Ravenfanatic5
I'm listening . . .
@frenzalrhomb6919 "Darth Plagueis was a dark lord of the sith. So powerful and so wise. He could use the force to influence the midichlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side. He could even keep the ones he cared about from dying."
"He could actually save people from death?"
"The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some considered to be unnatural."
"What happened to him?"
"He became so powerful. The only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew. Then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. It's ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself."
"Is it possible to learn this power?"
"Not from a Jedi."
@@Ravenfanatic5
Thank you very, very much. Did you do that from memory alone? I remembered only about a quarter or so of that short piece of the script, but I don't think I can remember that many lines from ANY movie, much less a Star Wars movie. Kudos to you, good Sir!!
@frenzalrhomb6919 you're welcome. Yea that was memory. Seeing Revenge Of the Sith so much lol
Good content
I remember when Palps said he could create life, I thought maybe that Plageus "Force Banged" Shmi, and is Anakins "Father"
Thanks for telling the true story of Darth Plagueis the wise.
Seems he was not wise enough to drink responsibly
Why would the Darkside suddenly advise Darth Sidious to kill Darth Plageuis if Darthe Bane didnt approve of such a cowardly way of killing your master?
So, what form did Darth Binks prefer to use?
I'd say drunken master style
I was always under the impression Plegueis was not passed out but sick from the Taco Bell they got from Door Dash. This changes everything!
Plagueis is the phantom menace.
Hello there!
"General Kenobi, you are a bold one."
I just watched clone wars movie and I think it would be awesome if you would do a theory on what if Boba Fett went with count Douku on Geonosis after Jango died and trained with him
This would have been an interesting sub plot to the phantom menace, as well as set up dooku
I can’t imagine a Sith Lord passed out drunk lol
I like to imagine what if Plagueis was brought back to life somehow in the Endor era then confronted Palpatine on the new death star.
Cool and fascinating.
Keep using "Star Wars Explained" in the title. It's a good way to stress out SWE..
🤫😉
Makes you wonder who would win the actual fight had Plagueis not been wasted.
Wooohooo I made it into the first hour club.
Darth Plagueis is a great novel. The audiobook version is really good too.
We need more of the ancient tales
My fave star wars book
Would like to know about the ancient Homeworld of the Jedi oh-sis
I kind of wish we would've gotten just a little but of Plagueis in episode 1 of this 6 movie series. I'm glad they never made another movie after Return!
If the Acolyte was to make a return and lead directly up to the beginning of the phantom Menace it would be nice to see what is being said here to actually be seen...live action
Idk if I’d say Plagueis was “alive and well” during TPM lol he was living on a respirator and had to consume through his nose
Alive? Yes. Well? I don’t think so lol
No Palpatine made it sound like the legend of Darth Plagueis was like 1000-10000 years old, not 100. If it was 100 years old Yoda would obviously have outlived him by centuries. Silly start to a theory.
Sifo-Dyas was having terrible visions of the future - that’s why he was easily manipulated!
Impotence is as does. Yes Palpatine YOU .
Would this be a profile of the character?
What if Plagueis was killed a decade after Phantom Menace? Or what if Plagueis was killed after the Clone Wars?
One of my favorite books
Maybe Plagueis was killed so easily as he was high on death sticks, the death stick guy just got him hooked , hence why palp could kill him so easily.
Every time I scroll past this video I think it’s Simon Pegg in the thumbnail
If there were Sith developing the ability to kill with the Force, surely there were some rogue Jedi experimenting with using the Force to...give people physical pleasure too. I want that story too.
Are we ever going to see Plagueis in any future Star Wars Movies or tv shows?
2:26
Whoa whoa, hold up...did Yoda once have hair or was that a wig he was rocking? 🤘
Could he have been in a band?
These questions need answers.
Is that Reviewbrah in the thumbnail?
And you're telling me that Palpatine can face off with this guy? Seriously? Look. I'm a fan of Sidious . But come on. If Sidious had found out that Plageius had survived, he would be pissing himself while having a panic attack.
Plagueis was powerful and skilled but his power and skill was more of an alchemist rather than pure offensive power. It's unclear if Palpatine would have beat him in a straight up fight but it's likely possible Sidious was more powerful in terms of fighting and offensive force ability..
@@MrKevin486the author said Sidious would lose in an interview
@05goode That does not mean anything. The only one who can make that definitive statement would be George Lucas. What we do know is Lucas has said outright that Palpatine is the most powerful Sith Lord ever. Now he never specifies exactly when he "claims" this title, but during the Phantom Meance, Sidious was basically in his prime. It's feasible to say Palpatine in a straight-up fight would have beat Plagueis. But Sidious is also super smart. A direct fight would have been too close and too big a risk to himself and his plans. More safe to kill him when you know he can't fight back.
