As a pretty heavily invested canon user, I have to say the fx3 is one of the best values and quite possibly the most unique offering on the camera market. There is no other camera in anyone's lineup that is giving it's feature set and having a sensor capability of low light shooting. Everyone is making high MP sensors and sony was wise to focus on a strictly video driven offering. I do think however, this coming generation from all the other brands will provide enough of comparative offering even if there is a fx3mk2 released. Other cams are now able to do pretty reasonable high iso ranges and have caught up closely to Sony's autofocus capabilities. It's going to be even more exciting to see what everyone brings out in the next year. Sony should be congratulated and thanked for pushing the entire industry to be better.

Doing a lot of hybrid work, it is always tempting to just want to find the perfect camera for everything. But time and time again I come back to "the right tool for the job" and recognize that as amazing as hybrid cameras are, having something more dedicated to what you are trying to achieve really does remove unnecessary barriers in your workflow, especially on set... It's why I have leaned towards this camera so many times and why it's still on my wishlist, even over the incredibly capable hybrid cameras I've owned from other brands

The FX3 keeps going and has never overheated on hours of studio shoots! Looking to buy another and relegate the A1 for coverage and stills. And the only reason I’m hoping for an FX3 II is to bring the price down a bit for that 2nd camera body. Yeah, I already duplicated the rig that I got for the first FX3 from V-Mount to Ninja, to Cantree Matte… whether it sits on my Sachtler or in my RSC gimbal or Rhino Arc II

I dont even look at fx3 until it has 3 isos like canon, open gate and 6k. To me the fx3 specs are outdated. Even a z6iii hybrid smokes its video specs while being able to shoot great pictures as well.
Great video! I owned the FX3 for a year and a half. It was quite enjoyable. I sold it for the A7SIII bc 50% of my work is photography. Which I also own the A7IV and A7CII. BUT I just decided to sell my A7sIII and A7CII to get a used FX6. I’ve got some shoots lately where the internal variable ND filter would have been a game changer to have.
ZVE1 would have overheated in many scenarios I put the FX3 in. Simply put, the ZVE1 is NOT a work horse, it's meant for vloggers. The small size factor, autofocus, image stabilization, 16bit raw (externally), 4k 120fps…this camera is dangerous! I shot with it and colour graded the image! Just wow! I did settle on the BMCC6KFF cause the image is just ridiculous!!! but this camera?? I see why people love it! You move faster. A lot faster!

Funny you mention not caring about built-in ND. As an FX6 user I don't think I'll ever own a camera without built-in ND from now on, haha. But if you're often rigging up your camera with matte boxes and all sorts of stuff anyways, then I understand not needing it. Saves me a lot of time though, and I'm so happy to never have to screw on a variable ND again.
Sony's are good but Canon they are not. You gotta go up to Sony Venice 2 to compete with Canon. -Internal Raw and format flexibility Sony doesn't come close -Superb color scince (closest thing to Arri) I shoot with Canon as a B-Cam along side my Alexa Mini no problem -Better dynamic range and latitude -Professional cinema menus accross the board. Sony doesn't even have false color -c400 release 🔥 -fx series needs upgrades accross the board -I think it's unacceptable for "cinema grade camera" not to have the ability to record all of the formats internally -Canon customer support is unmatched. I was on the way to shoot the show two states away and needed an additional camera. Called them Thursday evening after hours, by Saturday morning the loaner camera was delivered to my hotel!
Armando, thank you for the honest review. What are your thoughts on lens choices for the Sony system. My rationale is that to choose the older canon route of L-series glass and a cinema camera (e.g. c200), since FX3/Sony combination with GM lenses is significantly more expensive. Although in the video you mentioned an adapter by Sigma to use canon lenses, it must nonetheless be worse than using native canon glass on a canon camera, or the difference in autofocus and image quality is negligible?
Thanks for the video, Armando! I am curious what you think about the FX3 versus the new Sony NX800 camcorder? I'm a Sony still photographer now doing more video. My work is more documentary in nature for commercial clients. The built-in ND filters are tempting with the NX800! But, I am curious if you feel there are any downsides to the NX800 when compared with the FX3.
@@QaziAdil someone asked me the same thing here so I’ll just copy and paste what I wrote. I respect your choice, but here you have limited everything to size and thrown all the capabilities of the C500ii behind your back and tried to make us understand that this is the essential difference in order to move from one system to another. The FX3 is a beautiful camera, but do not try to convince me that the quality of its images is like the FX6 and of course not the C500ii.
If you're ever in Los Angeles hit me up, I'll rent a C500 MII and will put my FX3 side by side. And when we're done filming, we'll do a poll with people to see if not only they can see a difference but also tell us which one "looks" better. If the C500 MKII wins I will give you $1,000 let me know when you want to do it my DM's are open.
First of all, I don't need your 1000. Second, why did you get angry with my words and respond with this response?! Third, what is the benefit of the FX6 and Fx9 if the Fx3 is at their level? If this is your logic, then perhaps the Canon R5C is better than the Canon C500ii and so on. I saw here on TH-cam a comparison of Canon R5C vs FX3 and Canon was better. This is just for your information.
@@TheMaemo Nobody is angry, I'm not sure how you took my reply as being angry lol. I've had both cameras I've done hundreds of tests and I'm 100% confident that knowing how to light a scene, color grade is way more important than having 22 stops of dynamic range. Just a friendly bet that I still stand behind to prove to you that cameras have very little to do with image quality, we live in a digital age it's all ones and zeros 100110010111001. You can make any image look however you want and the problem is the majority of the people don't know how to unlock their cameras true potential. Saying "I don't care for internal NDs" reeks of damage control from Sony at the C80 announcement. Internal NDs ARE a huge deal, and it's the logical next step for someone that has outgrown mirrorless cameras.
Built in ND at the expense of an inferior image quality no thanks! There's a reason why good ND filters cost as much as a mirrorless camera if not more. Bottom line, camera companies won't put super high quality built in ND unless it's Arri but you're paying for it at $80,000. Once you start to care about your image you'll soon realize that built in ND's suck if you want superior image quality. Take some ND Filters from Lee/Panavision or Tokina IRND and compare it to the C80 and you'll quickly find out how bad it is, do your own testing and you'll see for yourself you don't have to take my word for it. But 99% of people probably won't care and that's ok but for me who I do care I'd rather have a smaller body hence why I don't own an FX6 which I did at one point.
@@mondobytesTelling someone that high quality filters cost as much as a mirror less camera and that they should do their own testing is a little bit disconnected from financial realities of the average person. Not to mention one of Sony’s biggest selling points on the fx6 is internal ND filters.

Hey what aspect ratio is this?
Sony's are good but Canon they are not. You gotta go up to Sony Venice 2 to compete with Canon.
-Internal Raw and format flexibility Sony doesn't come close
-Superb color scince (closest thing to Arri) I shoot with Canon as a B-Cam along side my Alexa Mini no problem
-Better dynamic range and latitude
-Professional cinema menus accross the board. Sony doesn't even have false color
-c400 release 🔥
-fx series needs upgrades accross the board
-I think it's unacceptable for "cinema grade camera" not to have the ability to record all of the formats internally
-Canon customer support is unmatched.
Sony menu’s remind me of Nokia phones. This is NOT acceptable in 2024.
@@dandonovan1 OMG I love the NX800 had a chance to play with it for a little bit and I’m in love! I think for documentaries it’s going to crush!
@@mondobytes thank you for your perspective!
Good video. Just curious as to why you don't care about internal ND filters?
@@QaziAdil someone asked me the same thing here so I’ll just copy and paste what I wrote. I don't care about built in ND Filters, although convenient, yes the inaccuracy and IR pollution you get is still visible. Invest in good hard stops ND and your image will look 100x better, it's almost a cheat code.
@@mondobytes Thanks for the reply. Any recommendations for good external ND Filters?
@@QaziAdil I’ve been using Element Filters, for the last year and they’ve been great. They’re not the best but for the price they perform really well.
@@mondobytes Thank you
I respect your choice, but here you have limited everything to size and thrown all the capabilities of the C500ii behind your back and tried to make us understand that this is the essential difference in order to move from one system to another.
But I digress, pick the camera that works best for you, I've owned a C500 MKII and it wasn't for me. Very happy with my FX3 for just about everything and Komodo X when clients want RED projects.
@@mondobytes Everyone sleeps on the side that is most comfortable for them, there is no doubt about that, but the side that is most comfortable for you does not require you to convince the other party to sleep on it. Tell me, what is the difference between the FX3, FX6 and FX9?.
I’m very hype for the canon c80
I literally pray the FX3 ii keeps the same body. It’s just so sexy. Sony hit it on the nail with this one.
PS: Mark 2 will come out the day after I buy the first FX3 I guarantee it 😂
Sony is allegedly releasing an updated version of the FX3 in September.
YUP! SONY AINT BLINKING at other brands releases
PERSONALLY WHEN IT COMES TO SONY I WOULD PURCHASE THE SONY A74 AND SONY A7SIII. AND USE THE SONY A74 IN CROP MODE ONLY WHEN DOING CINEMATOGRAPHY.
Bro I love my FX3 As much as I tried leaving it, I always come back to it. Quick question What's that body cap you have on your camera?

I sold my Arri to buy FX3. Because I get to shoot videos don't require cinematic look and videos with limited DR.
@@selo8050 The fact that you think “cinematic look” is tied to a specific camera shows me you don’t know anything about cameras. Same goes for “limited DR” shows you don’t know how to light a scene.
Here is another fact; FX3 has no cinematic look and has limited DR to qualify for cinema. Without comparing it to any cameras.
@@selo8050 let’s see your work with your Arri camera oh shit you don’t have one? Sorry, your opinion doesn’t matter because you have no work to prove it. Meanwhile there’s movies being made with FX3. Where’s your movie? Oh shit you don’t have one either? Get out of here bruh
And everybody who agrees with you here has movies to their credit? 😂😂😂😂😂
@@selo8050 Bro The Creator was shot with FX3 lol no need to agree or not it’s a film and looks amazing! Proof is in the pudding homie, once again where’s your work dawg? Show me links my dude 🤡
real question is why do I gravitate watching FX3 videos more then using it 😂
Great video! 💯 agree
We need (or I do at least) a 6K FX3 mk2 … just say’n.
I don't even have money to a meal for the day and dreaming for Sony FX30. 😢😢😢😢
@@jchase8223 You're right and I get that it may not make sense for most people which is why I said "I don't care for Internal ND's" I wasn't speaking for everyone else, just like I can say I don't care for Pineapple on Pizza, it's my decision and not forcing it on anyone.
15 stops dynamic range
That's cool and all but, PANASONIC is coming !!! Everybody count your days !!!! lol.
Great content as always Armando. I have a sneaky suspicion a new FX series camera is on the horizon sometime in September. I'm sure you've already played with it. Like this comment for a yes. Haha.
I doubt it. It'll probably be another 2 years.
@@tunnellightstudios5183 I wish! I doubt it’s coming out anytime soon, Sony will most likely release an A7SIV before an FX3. If I had to guess I say we’re easily 1 year away If not more for a new update.
@@mondobytes 🤔 maybe a different FX camera then? This year has been extremely quiet for Sony. The only camera announcement was the Sony ZV-E10ii.
There are now full time "Why I Ditched ....." youtubers 😅😅
More like Sony is giving out more stuff than Canon out of despair :) Compared to anything Cinema EOS, FX3 is a toy, the image and the ergonomics, lens ecosystem and quality, there's no comparison at all, but a bank account is more important :)

So Sony willing pulled a money grab move by releasing the A7S3 a year prior then said now let’s reveal the real camera (FX3) 😂
@@Samvisualarts for real it’s messed up they pulled an Apple on y’all and although the A7S3 is still a great camera with those little limitations it just sucks how they mistreated it and still made everyone one pay that same $4-5K price tag 🏷️ because people were holding onto their old A7S2 for so long so they took the bait
