    I'm actually getting this laptop Tuesday since my current laptop died. I've watched a few reviews and it seems like the best one for me.
    One thing I want to thank you about your video is the fact that you show the sims 4 in your benchmark, I enjoy The Sims and Planet Coaster/Zoo and a lot of reviewers never mention these types of games even though they need a decent laptop to run them well. It's nice to see more casual type games shown.

    I totally agree that they changed. I remember having an Acer all in one desktop in 2010 or earlier. From Windows 7 to windows 8. For whatever reason it had an error and needed the Windows Disk to be inserted to recover. And that's when I realized that Acer was not a good choice for computers. But then at Brandsmart USA I stumble upon the Acer Helios 300 and I was surprised actually. It was bang for your buck and I love it. Didn't get it as I'm looking to build a desktop but it really impressed me how Acer DID come a long way to get consumers to choose them. I can see them take pride.

    I found this laptop on Ebay from the Acer Refurbished program for $899.99!!
    All I can say is...
    JESUS TAP DANCING CHRIST IS THIS LAPTOP BLAZING FAST!!
    Sure, I didn't get the whole fancy packaging and whatnot, but who cares!
    Also, my unit didn't include the Hard Drive upgrade kit but that shouldn't be too much an issue.
    Lastly, since my unit was refurbished, I believe the Acer undervolting got removed, since I was seeing CPU temps around 80c when gaming. Not bad, but not great either.
    So I undervolted my CPU with ThrottleStop and MSI AfterBurner and OMG!!! I'm legit gaming on max settings on almost all games running at a cool 60c!!
    Acer has really outdone themselves here!
    And for me getting this beast of a laptop for less $1000.00??? Merry Christmas to me! lmao!!

      Yo I was planning on getting the refurbished one as well from ebay. is it still going great for you 2 months after? The undervolting thing getting removed has me a bit worried now but if most day to day things are going very good still I'll probably grab it.

    • @dalportodev
      @dalportodev  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oath609 Why would undervolting worry you? The Helios 300 is pre-undervolted out of the box by the manufacturer. 1. Find a good deal 2. Purchase 3. Enjoy. No configuring required.

    • @oath609
      @oath609 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So this laptop is a absolute beast. Only had it for about a month. I encountered something that I may misunderstood. So the Turbo Button. When I am in a game such as Skyrim and I press the turbo button, my game crashes and takes me to the desktop. I reinstalled windows and reinstalled the predator sense app. Same problem. However, I just bought Modern Warfare and used to Turbo button for a hour straight and no problems or crash. I believe the turbo/extreme option will work on certain games that probably aren't capped at a certain frame rate. Just my theory.

    • @dalportodev
      @dalportodev  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very interesting, my understanding (could be wrong) is that turbo just increased fan speed. Did Skyrim crash immediately everytime you pressed the button or after some time passed? Are you using any mods? I haven't seen any issues with turbo but I don't use it much because it's so loud.

    -ASUS ROG GL531GT ($1099/not so many reviews)
    -MSi GP65 Leopard ($1199/a lot of good reviews and also Amazon Choice)
    -Acer Predator Helios 300 ($1129/the best option according to the reviews and also Amazon Choice)
    I'm not an expert but with the basic knowledge I have and after doing a good research on these options I think the best option would be the Acer Predator Helios 300. I plan on purchasing the laptop on Amazon but I live in El Salvador so I think that might be a key detail to take into consideration bcs idk which of these brands it's the best and the easist to get spare parts or assistance just in case there's any issues with the laptop.
    Any advice? What option do you think would fit my needs the best?

    Question about the SSD expansion slot that is open, not the 2.5 and not the one already in use with the 256 SSD that comes with it... so will this laptop take an M.2 or a NVMe ? I'm confused on the two types, one has the 2 separate contacts on each side and one just has one. Isn't NVMe faster? Want to upgrade the Predator Helios (2019 version) and amazon says it has 2 PCIe M.2 slots. So not sure to get an M.2 SATA 2280 or the NVMe M.2 (faster?)

    Ok, I just spent 4 DAYS reading, trying, and trying 'till my fingers bled [ _not really, but oh, the drama! --- although I DID cut my left hand in a fall_ ] to learn and _FINALLY!!_ accomplished setting up my Predator with Windows 10 (as shipped) *ALONG WITH* 3 distros of Linux: Mint 19.2, ClearOS 7, Fedora 31 (but changed my mind about that one) and ZorinOS 12.4 Core. Mint and Zorin are functioning fine. I still need to fine-tune ClearOS, but that can wait until tomorrow. All on the same 256GB SSD.
    I hope to soon post on my website detailed instructions on: 1) Fine tuning Windows 10 [as shipped] as a solo install but separating all your data; 2) Windows 10 and [1] Linux distro bootable on same drive via menu; 3) Windows 10 and _multiple_ Linux distros bootable on same drive via menu; ..... ALSO, I'll discuss the various storage options and how to handle them so you can be the most efficient with your new Predator and not lose your data (and hopefully any system as well) by viruses or malware.
    Btw, my Predator is [as delivered] configured with 16GB RAM and a 256GB NVMe SSD. I'll discuss how you can upgrade your memory and storage for the best efficiency of using this great laptop. Oh, and typing with this keyboard is awesome after dealing with crappy chicklet "keyboards" in the past. Just wish it has LIGHTS for BOTH, CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK. _Stay tuned!_

    Mate i really love your actual honest reviews but this helios is causing quite some confusion on my end. I saw others review this laptop and complained about getting temps of over 90 C, and to be honest, i had the 2018 model of this laptop and the thermal throttling was unbearable so i had to return it. Now i just wanna conclude my research about this laptop and would like to know what temps im supposed to trust here.

      Yep, not afraid to call something out for being garbage. 😂 The Helios 300 is far from it, however. I did hear about some issues with the 2018 model. The information in this video was my complete, self experience with my own unit. Thanks for watching!

    How did you test CS:GO? On Ulletical Benchmark or just by playing? Which more are you playing then, CASUAL, COMPETITIVE or Danger Zone. As these impact frame rates. I have seen some benchmark which achieved about 170-180 framerates on max on turbo on max settings and 240-250 on low-med settings which is what I am trying to achieve. Thanks for your help!

    • @dalportodev
      @dalportodev  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used FPS Monitor from fpsmon.com which calculates the average framerate over a given duration of gameplay. As I mentioned as a disclaimer in the video, there were some areas in the game which yielded higher framerates. So depending on gameplay factors and how much content is displayed on the screen ymmv. I did notice higher framerates reaching 170-180 in some areas, but never anywhere near 250. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    • @RusselSof
      @RusselSof 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dalportodev Ahhh, now I see. I assume that the average of it for high settings right? I have seen people reaching 240-250 on low settings. Do you think it is possible? In my opinion, decreasing the settings in CS really helped in boosting fps with minimal visual changes. Thanks for your helping, your benchmarks really helped me in deciding a laptop for me.

    I'm curious as the the difference between power limiting throttle and thermal throttle?

    • @dalportodev
      @dalportodev  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Power limit throttling is when the system limits the amount of power the CPU can pull, thus generating less heat. Thermal throttling is when the CPU overheats the system forces the CPU core clock speed down until temperatures lower. Thermal throttling is definitely the worse of the two.
