I put on the bsd hybrid hub and dam the only thing I miss about traditional free coaster is how w the female axles u don’t have to break the chain every single time I get a flat ... wow what a pain
@@jadonmckenzie5994 check online for information regarding front to rear teeth ratio... I believe the my dirt jumper is a 13:34 Id guess a 15 tooth rear for a 54, but find that chart online to be safe!!!
That's the problem I have with my chain. I can't seem to make it run evenly without either scrapping the rear u brake, or pulling tight at a certain point when I'm pedaling.
I had to diagnose an S&M BTM frame I had. It was making noise when I pedaled so I figured it was the mid bearings. I put the new mid ones in the bb and noticed it wasn’t fitting in there right. So whoever had it before me had taken the bearings out too much or something bc I had never seen a frame that bad before. Making a clunk clunk sound every time you pedal but in the cold it didn’t make noise at all. I’m an older rider so I take care of my bikes as much as I can. That wasn’t the only thing wrong with it sadly. The head tube was messed up too bc my steering didn’t spin right. It had a big dent in the down tube and bunch of dents in the chainstay. The guy must have thought the frame was the pegs bc this thing was wrecked. I got it for free so I rode it for a while but I was glad to get rid of it.
thanks guys this is so helpful, i got an eclat halflink for my birthday and it crackles like crazy, I tried grease, keeping it loose, although as soon as i pedal, so I apply pressure it does an infernal noise I don't think it's the bash guard of the sprocket either
I’ve had multiple custom bikes since I started riding. I don’t ride much anymore, but I can tell you from experience that majority of the time it’s not the chain or the driver from the hub. The only way it would crackle because of the chain is alignment being off. I figured out it was the bottom bracket bearings. It did that in all of my bikes. I replaced the bearings meaning I had to hammer out the old ones and replace them, once I did that the popping and cracking noises went away. And if you run a guard sprocket, make sure it’s aligned straight because if you don’t the chain will eat up all of the teeth on the sprocket especially if it’s a shadow halflink.
Mf I had that cracking problem and I js loosen it and dam it’s gone deserves a like and a subscribed from someone who is barely starting in the bmx world
I had the same issue no audible sound but it was like a crackling vibration and it ended up being my chain. I just flipped my bike upside down and turned the pedals quickly forward and then medium speed and then suuuuper slow to find the exact spots it was Happening during my pedal rotation and I saw the issue immediately pedaking super close I upside down, the chain was wobbling left to right for some reason… even when it’s tight… idk what’s up with that I guess ima have to just get a half link and really be sure to size it nice and perfect

How do I tighten inserts in my hollowbites at home? One of them is getting loose, the tightens itself and then gets loose again. What’s your fix for it?
for people wondering is there a fix... i just rebuilt a WTP arcade, it was happening to a brand new chain and sprocket. swapped the wheel for another wheel and it wasnt happening.. went back to the salt rim and happening again. was driving me fooking nuts. tried loosening the sprocket holder bolt and tried to free the tension at the tenser part, but nothing changed. put the bike down and rode it and it doesnt happen. for me anyway, it only happens when theres no load on the bike... thats why hes saying dont worry about it. so get out there and shred.
I heard that crackling sound when i was using kmc k710 chain. Recently changed mine to pyc p-121 halflink chain the crackling sound lessen and it’s lighter to pedal with the k-710 i feel the chain is binding on hub drive
I recently bought a Eclat E440 Freecoaster. For some reason slips when I pedal. Its like spinning tire when I start pedaling fast, also it takes a full pedal to engage for the first pedal, how do I fix this problem
I have the same problem, I got the shadow half link and it’s been making that noise. Got a new sprocket and the same thing. With the stock KMC chain there’s no noise. So I’m thinking it’s just the stock wheel. And I mean the chain has a tight spot and the loose sport but I think that’s normal. Can anyone tell me what’s wrong?
The shadow supreme chain is a fair bit thicker than any other chain ive seen, and i know they can rub on bashguards if thats what you have. Do like Phu said and check the wheel out. Or clean the chain..
Yo so I just got a new crankset and bottom bracket and I just bought a new chain and now there is this noise like you can hear every link clunk when I pedal on the bike but not when I'm off
I have a 12.75 back end slammed 25t 9t. It crackles a lot cause it's slammed. When I add an extra link the axle is almost at the end of the dropouts. What should I do?
@@companionbmx404 damn dude i have the same problem when i slam it. Maybe try out a normal chain. There is no other way to fix this to be honest. You could consider slighty grinding your dropouts deeper for a few mill but i would not recommend it
Have you thought about using a rat tail file or a burr tool in an air grinder. File or grind the drop outs a little deeper to move the wheel forward. Just make sure your tire still clears the frame and brakes. Shit will rub if you go too far. Ask me how I know a 2.4 tire don’t fit no moe.
It's a bit late but happy birthday. Hopefully you have learned not to use power tools on your bike to tighten bolts. I'm sure you have plenty of experience using them and have enough knowledge to not ruin the treads or stretch the bolts and such, but I know you know that using power tools is like gambling, you can easily spend money on lottery tickets and know you have a exponentially better chance at losing than winning. Do you like winning? If that means breaking a bolt in a female hub using a impact wrench over and over to eventually cause some serious issues like a broken bolt that you now have to remove?
From one older guy to another, Happy Bday Phu!!!🎂 it’s been a long time man, so happy to be watching these...Matt Root

Happy belated birthday to you Phu! And once again thank you all for the useful information.
What about tight spots in the chain, y'all should do a video on how to fix that, if you haven't already
Yesssssss
We have but we shall do another
Sweetness, I'll keep an eye out for it bro
It’s usually because you don’t have the hat washer on your sprocket correctly, or you don’t have one on at all.

Happy Birthday Phu!:) Great video, helped alot with my chain tension.
Man these videos don’t disappoint
Aye I bought a used bike and the chain is tight and loses of that makes sense. I make a full rotation it’s tight, another rotation it’s loose
It could be your sprocket. If the sprocket is bent even a little it’ll do that
Bent sprocket for sure
Max got the goooood pedals

You should do one on drive side hub gaurd alignment
When I loosen the tension on my chain, it hits the rear u brake at that certain point when spinning the crank.

The popin on a bike normally is a new chain on old sprockets or worn clutch in the freecoaster or need some dry lube on the chain 👍🚲💨
That wasn’t quite the reference we were going for, but that could also be it
When I visit southern cal, I’ll stop by.
How do I tighten inserts in my hollowbites at home? One of them is getting loose, the tightens itself and then gets loose again. What’s your fix for it?
You can use a flat head screw driver and a hammer to lightly tap on the backside to tighten them up
