Worst summer in 5 years selling full time on ebay. Sales are down 50% month over month since April. SOOOOO sick of the glitches and the CONSTANT roller coaster. The platform is beyond unstable. Costs are up, sales are down...and EVERYONE'S BROKE!
Hi yes been selling since 2001 apparently eBay is dead as is Etsy, its sign of the times . GenZ buying elsewhere and the economy is terrible only going to get worse I think 18 months. Not just eBay but no sale this week is very weird after lots of offers . I take 20% off , still not enough . All the best I have done all the tricks everyday and listing we need to change what we selling at the moment!

Yeah sales are bad for so many people right now and I think there are a variety of reasons for it, most of which are out of our control. I'm hopfull that that things are going to turn around soon. Thank you.
You nailed it! 🤣 When I get a sale, usually I get an email notification first, then a second or two later, I get the cha ching so every time I hear an email come through, I get my hopes up that I'll hear a cha ching but I'm almost always disappointed. That's a good analogy about being ghosted, it wasn't too long ago I was dealing with that too!
I believe eBay had some sort of issue. I am still having offers pop up that I cannot accept or deny. I accepted one offer over the weekend that disappeared (no item in pending payment or pending shipping). I also had two days where my sales were over half of what they normally are. I think and hope it was an ebay issue.
I did eBay for a few years full time, was great. Now I go days without a single sale. I'm done. I'm starting a full time job soon. Cant wait to get my garage back. And losing items is the worst! SKU!
That seems to be a common theme for so many sellers these days, things were good and now they're not. I came into reselling with the hopes of going full time at some point but it's looking that may never happen. I love reselling but feel like all the space needed isn't worth it a lot of the time.
I had 1 order Thursday, 1 Friday, 0 Saturday, 0 all day Sunday then all of a sudden I had 5 late Sunday night, 1 Monday and so far 1 Tuesday. It’s insane how slow it is. I’ve seen multiple people say September is their slowest month and to get ready for 4th quarter. We just gotta hang in there.
I'm right there with you! Except i had like two or three sales this weekend and now I haven't had any in three days. And pretty sure the only reason I had those sales over the weekend is because I was running a pretty generous sale. This is sooo frustrating. Oh and I've been there with the lost item. Usually I miss it the first time and see it the second go around. but sometimes it's literally no where you thought it might be. I sold something on fbmp place yesterday and thought i might have to cancel the sale but then i visualized where it was and found it. Hoping and praying that all of our sales improve!
The ups and downs of ebay are frustrating to say the least lol. I did a little test run of jacking up my promoted rate to 8% and running a 35% off sale just to see if I could jump start some sales. I got one sale in two days for $9.... not quite what I was hoping for 🤣. But yeah, it's been a bad week.
So frustrating when this is my livelihood. I do full time usually 3-500 hundred dollar days. I’ve been pulling in 100 a day if lucky last few days 20-60 bucks!
Man, that's crazy but seems like a common story from what I've been seeing from other sellers and my own experience. I really wanted to go full time at some point but I did not realize the volatility of ebay and I'm just not sure that I want to solely rely on it.

You know what's crazy. When you have zero sales, I typically have sales and when I don't have sales you have sales. it's like they have a schedule and turn on and off peoples stores lol
You know, it really does seem like they turn them on and off. I have some theories about what's going on I'm going to talk about next week. Here is also something crazy. I would say that about 75% of the time my friend Kim and I are also opposite on our sales. All this week I've sold very little and she's selling twice what she normally does. I'm glad to hear you've got some sales though because I was shocked at how many comments this video talked about slow to no sales and a lot of them are people who have been selling for years and years and have never seen it this bad.

I had issues a couple weeks ago. I ended/ sell similar on most of my items above $20 and started a 5% off sale on my entire store. I’m back up to $300-600 a day consistently. (I sell everything)
1 sale over the weekend (normal is 5-7). Also having issues with old offers popping up/disappearing with no resolution. Praying it’s more an eBay issue and less a sign of the falling market, and will give way for 4th Q. Silly as it sounds, it helps to know you’re not alone 😊
I can only guess but if I had to, I'd guess that it's a combination of ebay issues and softening economy. My carpet cleaning business has been slower than it ever has before, I've been going for days without a single call (except telemarketers 🙄) and I've noticed that my ebay sales tend to closely follow my day work. I'm hopeful though that 4th quarter sales will help pick things up. I agree with you about not feeling alone in this. I mean, I want everyone to be selling a lot but when that's not happening, it does help to know you're not the only one and from the comments on this video, it seem like there are a *lot* of us.
I had this happen to me last month. It's like being in Facebook jail, or "shadow-banned". They turned my sales off in August, down 78%, then just turned 'em back on again Labor Day weekend.
What you just described seems to be happening more and more to sellers, not even just slow sales but what seems like they just turn them off. What has happened to me quite a bit is I'll go all day with no sales and then all ofthe sudden I'll get two sales within 4-5 minutes and nothing else. If it had only happened once or twice I could believe it was just a coincidence but it has happened way too many times. You'd think ebay would want as many sales as possible but I swear I think sales do get turned off whether it's on purpose or some kind of glitch in the system.
I had a similar experience as you this weekend. The last two weeks were great, and then I only had one sale from Friday to Tuesday (yesterday). So weird. 🙄
Weird indeed. What I've also noticed is that a lot of the time I won't get any orders all day and then get two orders within just a couple minutes either late afteenoon or at night. If it only happened now and then I could chalk it up to coincidence but it happens way too often for it not to be something else.
@@TrailerTrashFlips I'm starting to see a pattern that the slow sales seem to happen mostly during the last week of the month. I'm guessing that people run out of money by then. Especially, those who get paid on the 1st and 15th of the month, which makes total sense.
I've been self-employed for a long time and my income is always fluctuating so I didn't even *think* of the end of the month thing. You may very well be right and that does make a lot of sense.
Oh no, it's not just you lol. It seems like there are a *lot* sellers in the same boat these days with slow sales. I've also been keeping a sale going but it doesn't seem to be doing much. I'm probably going to increase my sale even more just to see if it helps move some inventory.
I hate when you can't find something. I use a really good inventory system with bins. Every once in a while i miss label something. Ugh it drives me nuts. I gotta be more careful.

New viewer here and somewhat new to reselling. I was selling 5-7 items a day and then I had to cancel an order because I couldn't find the item. Now crickets! I had 1 lowball offer which I took to get a sale and now nothing! I am wondering how long I will have to be in eBay jail!
I've always suspected that ebay does some shadow banning when something like that happens and it's completely based on the fact that I've had it happen quite a few times. Having to cancel an order, a buyer opening a case, a credit card dispute, anything like that has always seemed to effect my sales. Maybe if it had happened one or twice I could accept that it was just a coincidence but when my sales drop right after something like that, I can only believe that ebay is putting me in the penalty box.

I watched many videos before deciding to start selling on ebay this past April. I was concerned about the economical situation we are going through. The videos assured that in a recession, online reselling would do well. I am not finding that to be true. Im going to end up paying my tax guy half of my profits, the rate its going so far.
I just talked about this issue in the video before this one. There are lots of the bigger youtube resellers who seem to do fine no matter what the circumstances are and give the impression that ebay is easier than it really is. I don't necessarily believe they are purposely trying to mislead anyone but I do think it's easy to get a false perception of the reality of online selling, ebay in particular. This is why I try to show a more realistic view of reselling on my channel. I have plenty of no sale or low sales days or bad buys so that I can at least try to show that selling on ebay isn't all rainbows and unicorns. At my current sales pace, I may even make less than last year if the 4th quarter doesn't pick up significantly and with the state of the economy, I don't believe that's going to happen.... at least not for me so I feel your pain. Being a full time seller *was* my ultimate goal and I guess it still is but I also have learned a lot over the last two years and my expectations in regards to selling on ebay have changed drastically so I know that becoming a full time reseller is a scenario that probably will not happen.
We can all agree Ebay doing shady stuff. Last Sunday I posted 5 items and was forced to do the promotion option because of low views. It's only 9 views altogether today I never had this experience before the covid issue. 😢
I agree with you, I don't know exactly what it is they're doing but it's definitely something. There are way too many people experiencing the same issues.

I think there is a lot going on right now with the economy and some other things that are playing a role in the grand scheme of things but as for ebay, I know exactly what you mean about them seeming to turn on and turn off sales. As a business, they *should* want to help sellers make every single sale possible but in both my experience and from talking to other sellers, I think there website issues that are affecting our sales. It's already known that ebay changed the searchability on the website about a year and a half ago and that caused a lot of problems. But thay are also always tinkering with it and that causes problems. And then there are server issues further causing problems. One thing that has happened to me numerous times is I will go a day, maybe two days with no sales and then get two sales within just a few minutes of each other. That has happened way too many times to be a coincidence and I believe it's because of server issues. Other times every order or almost every order I ship out will be going to California. Why all to one place like that? Server issues. So there is a whole lot going on right now for sure.
I had same issue last week. Took me 3 looks through my house, and my 2 storage units, to find a perfume bottle. It was a $300 piece, so wasn't going to give up easy. It ended being on the very bottom, of one of the first tubs I looked through. 😢
I quite flipping full time on eBay over a year ago, and now do work from home that doesn't require investing and holding (clutter) inventory. VERY freeing! I started eBay over 10 years ago, and it was great and pretty easy. But, thanks to people quitting jobs so they didn't have to take the jab and picking up flipping, or simply needing extra income to pay bills (increased competition), and eBay's own problems (I personally prefer to order on Amazon thanks to fast delivery and no USA inventory...no waiting 2 weeks to get chinese goods that you can't easily return), the money just isn't there anymore.
Very good points! The grand vision that I had of eventually moving into full time reselling is getting blurrier and blurrier lol. I enjoy reselling as a whole (minus the slow sales) but I think you're right about the money just not being there. I could add 1-2 small residential jobs per week to my day work and make more than what I do on ebay and I would spend less time doing it. *And* I wouldn't have a house full of inventory! 🤣 I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet and I'll see how things go a bit longer.
I'm down about 12% myself right now. I've had hopes of good 4th quarter sales for the last couple years but I've never had a significant increase in sales so I'm not holding out that this year will be any different.
Man, that's crazy! And the thing is, it's so frustrating because we have the inventory, spend time listing it, and feel helpless we have to just sit and wait for it to hopefully sell.
I actually have sold a good many books over the last couple years. Most of them have come from the amazon bin store, both new books and used books like college textbooks and overall they've been great sellers and you're right about the ROI on them. I've largely shifted away from sourcing at the bin store to mostly estate sales where I don't find near as many valuable books. My friend that I source with knows more about which books have value than I do so she usually heads straight for them. I was at an estate sale last weekend and there was a Steven King book that I comped and wasn't worth but a few dollars unless it was a first edition and I had no idea how to tell if it was or not. I've tried finding them at thrift stores but had very little luck there. I just subscribed to your channel also so hopefully I can learn more about them.
I've only been at it a little over two years but this is the worst it's been since I've been selling. I used to sell twice as much with half the listings.
too much competition now from reselling and people are now starting to sell directly on ebay instead of garage sales (people born in the 70s and 80s), because this is the last generation of people who dont know how to use eBay - reselling wont be viable much longer in my opinion. my reselling business is going down the drain
I'm struggling bad where now I'm just living out of my car with a couple storage units. I live in Washington Indiana where Haitian immigration has driven the price of rent through the roof and has also killed the wages for local jobs. Not sure what's going on with EBay but since the COVID boom it's been a slow death for me.
I'm sorry to hear that, I really hope things turn around for you. The economy where I live is still pretty good as an overall but people have definitely tightened up with their spending. My day work has slowed down to a crawl, way more than I've ever seen. As far as ebay, I kind of feel the same way. I started selling on ebay hoping that I could become a full time seller at some point but with the volatile nature of it, I don't see that happening anytime soon, maybe never.

At the moment I'm trying to work it out where I could travel across the country buying and selling from different locations. Not sure if EBay would have a problem with me constantly changing my shipping location or how that would work. Any input from you or your community for over the road reselling would be greatly appreciated. Looking for a large van or box Truck at the moment but need to get rid of a lot of dead stock first. I don't think I could be of much help but I do think it's a *very* interesting concept and could make some killer youtube content. I'm envisioning in my head watching say, "I just rolled into Denver Colorado and there are some *awesome* thrift stores here so let's go check them out!" And after that, you go into the back of the van or box truck to pull and pack your orders at a little work station you have set up! Again, I think that would be really cool. 👍
I don't sell at my local flea market anymore because it's really not a very good flea market. About 20 years ago I did sell there and made good money but now it just doesn't have the traffic that it once did.
It's been shocking to see just how many people have had either no sales or slow sales recently. This was the first weekend that I had zero sales since starting over two years ago.
@@TrailerTrashFlips Obviously they changed the offer screen on the app. So there were changes which means glitches. It just seems like the sales aren't recovering. I also think they are weighting the scales on promoted listings so hard buyers aren't even seeing what they searched for.
I've been toying around with different promoted rates lately to see if it would make any difference. I tried promoting almost everything at 8% and when I did searches for items in my inventory on a different device that was not logged into my ebay account, I found that my items were not coming up near as high as I expected them to, often times not even on the first page! One example is a certain bottle opener I had listed and it was the only one on ebay. It didn't come up until the second page and everything that did come up was generally unrelated to the search term. If there had been lots of this item listed then maybe I could theorize, although it would be highly unlikely, that other sellers were promoting at a higher rate. However, since it was the only one listed, either promoting is not doing what they claim it's supposed or there is a problem with the search function... or both.
Hopefully if Trump beats Harris in the election in November, the economy will begin to improve and our sales on eBay will begin to improve. I've just gone part time on eBay and started listing on other platforms, which seems to be working better for sales.

@misseyespy1 Yeah, Etsy is really in the Dumps. Worse than Ebay. I used to get 3 sales a week there. Now its 2 sales a MONTH. Terrible.

The videos assured that in a recession, online reselling would do well. I am not finding that to be true. Im going to end up paying my tax guy half of my profits, the rate its going so far.
I just talked about this issue in the video before this one. There are lots of the bigger youtube resellers who seem to do fine no matter what the circumstances are and give the impression that ebay is easier than it really is. I don't necessarily believe they are purposely trying to mislead anyone but I do think it's easy to get a false perception of the reality of online selling, ebay in particular. This is why I try to show a more realistic view of reselling on my channel. I have plenty of no sale or low sales days or bad buys so that I can at least try to show that selling on ebay isn't all rainbows and unicorns. At my current sales pace, I may even make less than last year if the 4th quarter doesn't pick up significantly and with the state of the economy, I don't believe that's going to happen.... at least not for me so I feel your pain. Being a full time seller *was* my ultimate goal and I guess it still is but I also have learned a lot over the last two years and my expectations in regards to selling on ebay have changed drastically so I know that becoming a full time reseller is a scenario that probably will not happen.
We can all agree Ebay doing shady stuff. Last Sunday I posted 5 items and was forced to do the promotion option because of low views. It's only 9 views altogether today I never had this experience before the covid issue. 😢
I agree with you, I don't know exactly what it is they're doing but it's definitely something. There are way too many people experiencing the same issues.

I think there is a lot going on right now with the economy and some other things that are playing a role in the grand scheme of things but as for ebay, I know exactly what you mean about them seeming to turn on and turn off sales. As a business, they *should* want to help sellers make every single sale possible but in both my experience and from talking to other sellers, I think there website issues that are affecting our sales. It's already known that ebay changed the searchability on the website about a year and a half ago and that caused a lot of problems. But thay are also always tinkering with it and that causes problems. And then there are server issues further causing problems. One thing that has happened to me numerous times is I will go a day, maybe two days with no sales and then get two sales within just a few minutes of each other. That has happened way too many times to be a coincidence and I believe it's because of server issues. Other times every order or almost every order I ship out will be going to California. Why all to one place like that? Server issues. So there is a whole lot going on right now for sure.

I had same issue last week. Took me 3 looks through my house, and my 2 storage units, to find a perfume bottle. It was a $300 piece, so wasn't going to give up easy. It ended being on the very bottom, of one of the first tubs I looked through. 😢

I quite flipping full time on eBay over a year ago, and now do work from home that doesn't require investing and holding (clutter) inventory. VERY freeing! I started eBay over 10 years ago, and it was great and pretty easy. But, thanks to people quitting jobs so they didn't have to take the jab and picking up flipping, or simply needing extra income to pay bills (increased competition), and eBay's own problems (I personally prefer to order on Amazon thanks to fast delivery and no USA inventory...no waiting 2 weeks to get chinese goods that you can't easily return), the money just isn't there anymore.
Very good points! The grand vision that I had of eventually moving into full time reselling is getting blurrier and blurrier lol. I enjoy reselling as a whole (minus the slow sales) but I think you're right about the money just not being there. I could add 1-2 small residential jobs per week to my day work and make more than what I do on ebay and I would spend less time doing it. *And* I wouldn't have a house full of inventory! 🤣 I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet and I'll see how things go a bit longer.

I'm down about 12% myself right now. I've had hopes of good 4th quarter sales for the last couple years but I've never had a significant increase in sales so I'm not holding out that this year will be any different.

Man, that's crazy! And the thing is, it's so frustrating because we have the inventory, spend time listing it, and feel helpless we have to just sit and wait for it to hopefully sell.

I actually have sold a good many books over the last couple years. Most of them have come from the amazon bin store, both new books and used books like college textbooks and overall they've been great sellers and you're right about the ROI on them. I've largely shifted away from sourcing at the bin store to mostly estate sales where I don't find near as many valuable books. My friend that I source with knows more about which books have value than I do so she usually heads straight for them. I was at an estate sale last weekend and there was a Steven King book that I comped and wasn't worth but a few dollars unless it was a first edition and I had no idea how to tell if it was or not. I've tried finding them at thrift stores but had very little luck there. I just subscribed to your channel also so hopefully I can learn more about them.

too much competition now from reselling and people are now starting to sell directly on ebay instead of garage sales (people born in the 70s and 80s), because this is the last generation of people who dont know how to use eBay - reselling wont be viable much longer in my opinion. my reselling business is going down the drain

I'm struggling bad where now I'm just living out of my car with a couple storage units. I live in Washington Indiana where Haitian immigration has driven the price of rent through the roof and has also killed the wages for local jobs. Not sure what's going on with EBay but since the COVID boom it's been a slow death for me.
I'm sorry to hear that, I really hope things turn around for you. The economy where I live is still pretty good as an overall but people have definitely tightened up with their spending. My day work has slowed down to a crawl, way more than I've ever seen. As far as ebay, I kind of feel the same way. I started selling on ebay hoping that I could become a full time seller at some point but with the volatile nature of it, I don't see that happening anytime soon, maybe never.

At the moment I'm trying to work it out where I could travel across the country buying and selling from different locations. Not sure if EBay would have a problem with me constantly changing my shipping location or how that would work. Any input from you or your community for over the road reselling would be greatly appreciated. Looking for a large van or box Truck at the moment but need to get rid of a lot of dead stock first. I don't think I could be of much help but I do think it's a *very* interesting concept and could make some killer youtube content. I'm envisioning in my head watching say, "I just rolled into Denver Colorado and there are some *awesome* thrift stores here so let's go check them out!" And after that, you go into the back of the van or box truck to pull and pack your orders at a little work station you have set up! Again, I think that would be really cool. 👍

It's been shocking to see just how many people have had either no sales or slow sales recently. This was the first weekend that I had zero sales since starting over two years ago.
@@TrailerTrashFlips Obviously they changed the offer screen on the app. So there were changes which means glitches. It just seems like the sales aren't recovering. I also think they are weighting the scales on promoted listings so hard buyers aren't even seeing what they searched for.
I've been toying around with different promoted rates lately to see if it would make any difference. I tried promoting almost everything at 8% and when I did searches for items in my inventory on a different device that was not logged into my ebay account, I found that my items were not coming up near as high as I expected them to, often times not even on the first page! One example is a certain bottle opener I had listed and it was the only one on ebay. It didn't come up until the second page and everything that did come up was generally unrelated to the search term. If there had been lots of this item listed then maybe I could theorize, although it would be highly unlikely, that other sellers were promoting at a higher rate. However, since it was the only one listed, either promoting is not doing what they claim it's supposed or there is a problem with the search function... or both.

Hopefully if Trump beats Harris in the election in November, the economy will begin to improve and our sales on eBay will begin to improve. I've just gone part time on eBay and started listing on other platforms, which seems to be working better for sales.
