  • I'm into my third and soon to be fourth KBG renovation and I want to make it absolutely clear that you do not need to worry about it coming in kind of thin. It will do what it is designed to do. It will spread and it will fill in any of the bare space. Just take care of it, mow it regularly, fertilize it, and let KBG do what KBG does.

      That's awesome to hear man as that was exactly the point. This part of my yard looked amazing by July.

    Glad I found your channel, and you are right. I had a dead spot last spring the size of a basketball, and it filled in in about 6 weeks

    But damn I want to throw down more seed 🤣🤣🤣

      It's such a chore to get it to germinate and establish, may as well wait. That's at least how I see it. But yea the natural reaction is to seed.

    Yes sir Jason. KBG the King of Lawns. It will fill in :)

    Nice! I seeded 100% KBG last fall. Got 2 mows out of it within around 45 days, and then winter hit. Hoping it comes out of hibernation well and thickens up. I have some extra seed in the garage but I’d rather be able to treat the yard with preemergent and just let the existing grass do its thing.

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously I went with the let it do its thing strategy and have been quite pleased. It does take some time, but it will get there. At least in my experience.

    Kinda doing this experiment in my backyard also. Should be looking real good this season.

      Area filled in like an 18 inch by 6 foot trench I filled in last year that was left by settling around a root I removed by like July. Love the self repair feature. Makes it really hard to want to even try rye or tttf.

    It’s currently late may-early June and my yard still looks like this,I’m contemplating waiting or reseeding it.

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  ปีที่แล้ว

      Can reseed for sure. Just know if you do it into summer the new grass will be susceptible to the heat.

    • @cadenjs199
      @cadenjs199 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonSeiberlich I think i will stick to just fertilizing it and watering it for the summer,and in late summer or early fall will reseed it,because here in Ohio it’s already exceeding 80 degrees.

    I built a new house and they hydroseeded in November of last year (P rye + KBG - W Michigan). There was absolutely zero growth until May. I fertilized and added 25 pounds of new KBG (15,000 sq ft) and didnt need to cut until the end of June. All of the areas with no or little growth were overtaken with nutsedge and clover so I sprayed with Sedgehammer. That worked well until those areas were then overcome with crabgrass so I used Tenacity. I'm throwing another round of starter fert out along with 25 pounds more seed then I plan on being done with the seed for a while. I'm using 100% KBG because I dont want to have to keep buying seed every year.

    What is the best mowing height for KBG? ( according your experience)

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Taller the plant is the better it can withstand stress. Shorter the better turf density and appearance. If you want to pick a height that's easy enough to manage and never change it, my recommendation would be 3". I do 2.5" in spring and fall and work up to and down from 3.5" in the summer.

    Just got KBG last year and a lot of bare spots. I’ve also spilled fertilizer on a spot and burned it(around 10” radius) should I rake or do anything? Or will it fix itself?

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on your patience level. Basketball size or lower I'd leave it alone. The fertilizer burn area can try to flush a bunch of water through it and then either leave to fill back in, seed, or plug.

      My first mow on the second seeding was day 44. I planted this section September 5 and never mowed it lol. KBG is slow.

    • @Elder_Millennial_
      @Elder_Millennial_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonSeiberlich I’ve tried waiting 30+ days to mow. The issue is the existing grass and weeds get extremely tall in this time. I feel like they overshadow the KBG seedlings? Chiming in from Ontario Canada where selective herbicides are essentially banned for residential purposes.

    • @JasonSeiberlich
      @JasonSeiberlich  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea if you're overseeding into am existing lawn I'll just mow it when it needs to be mowed. This is definitely not ideal circumstances, but you gotta do what you gotta do and I've had success with it in other areas.
