I BOUGHT A Fake HEMI Dodge Durango R/T *Weirdest Options Ever*

  • This 2011 Dodge Durango Crew popped up as one of the cheapest cars in inventory at the local Chevy dealer, so I made a bee-line for the dealer to check it out. When I got there my mind was blown when I found a cool color on a loaded car with a drivetrain that wasn't sold in the Crew trim. After driving it around the block I bought it, but it had a few problems so I wasn't able to take it home. They delivered it to me today, so now it's time to review it, and take it out for a real drive.

As someone who has never owned a single vehicle in their entire life without leather, there's something to be said about getting in someone's clapped out piece of shit kia that has grimey, gross cloth seats that stink of farts. Leather is cake to clean and care for. It almost never stains, and if you're not poor and have a garage to keep your car in, is absolutely never uncomfortable to sit in.

    • @docgiggles130
      @docgiggles130 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

@@elesjuan You must not live in a desert like I do. A garage only helps at the start of the day. Afternoons can and have caused burn in the car I had that has leather. Oh and as for cloth being nasty... I feel the same way about leather. I had to spend more time trying to keep my leather seats clean than my cloth. Cloth is east to take care of if you are willing to care for them. With that said, anyone that allows their cloth seats to get as bad as you describe wouldn't take care of their leather seats and you would find how nasty they can be.
I'm not even going to touch the 'poor' comment. Snobs don't like it when their BS gets called out.

Good luck with the fuel pump relay recall. The recall got recalled on the 2011-2013 models and they have a new fix for the fix. The problem is the parts don't exist. The local dealer here in WA says Chrysler lets them order parts to fix one car a week and they have a hundred cars backlogged. You might be waiting 2 years for that recall to be done. Mine was so bad I had to replace the relay myself because the car wouldn't start intermittently. Apparently the relays corrode internally and fail. If it suddenly cranks forever and won't start you need Omron Relay G8JN-1C6T-F-R-DC12. It's by the PCM/fuse box on the passenger fender. This won't do you any good to get that open recall taken care of unless the parts are somehow more available in Kansas.
This is basically a restyled 3 row Grand Cherokee with the tire under the car instead of under the trunk floor and a cheaper interior.
The flashlights all die. The batteries don't last. You can either replace the battery or just buy a new one. I think I paid less than 20 bucks on E-bay. They're super dim though.
If it's like my Grand Cherokee the USB in the center console is not just charging, you can plug a USB stick into it and it'll play off it or download into the head unit. And yes I use the hard drive, and not just a few songs. ;)
If you're unlucky like me the tick is broken exhaust manifold bolts. They're tiny little M8 bolts that love to snap off then you get a lovely exhaust tick on startup that goes away once the manifold heats up and seals itself.

These are heavy vehicles and the 5 speed automatic doesn't have enough gears to help that much with acceleration. All in all, a practical vehicle for families needing that type of space. The startup tick is probably an exhaust leak caused by broken exhaust manifold studs. As the engine heats up, the tick goes away. Had that tick on my 2005 2500. Replaced the studs and new manifold gaskets and the tick is gone. But yeah, definitely stay on top of the oil. Quick way to check for broken exhaust studs is to reach in and try to move the heat shield covering the exhaust manifold. If they jiggle or make noise you have broken studs.

I was at 100,000 miles & the only way I could tell was my mpg's went down by 2 mpg. I traded it in on a 2018 Ram 1500 Midnight Edition 4x4 with a lifetime powertrain warranty, because I enjoyed that Hemi so much, but didn't want to see another $5,000 bill for a single head repair. @@JustinKelly In 2012 they renamed the 545RFE to the 65RFE. Same transmission just reprogrammed on the autostick models to allow you to use all 6 gears. This was mostly a marketing exercise. If this is a 2011 then technically it's the 545RFE, it's a 2012-2013 it's a 65RFE.
The 545RFE was always a 6 speed but 2nd and 3rd are very close ratioed. Under acceleration it uses the "true" 2nd then skips 3rd. When doing something like passing it uses 3rd gear to give you more revs before it upshifts to 4th.

Many people make horrible mistakes renting their vehicles through things like Turo.
Tax Insurance Public Liabilities and Business licences are among the expensive things you need to get the correct handle on before you hand over the keys to a stranger.
You need to expect the vehicle to be trashed wrecked stolen and gutted every time it leaves your possession.
A favourite scam people pull on small and private renters is gutting.
Someone who has what is basically a rolling wreck will look around for someone renting that vehicle with good parts that they need, they rent the vehicle gut it for all the parts they require then either dump it somewhere and report it stolen or go to the effort of fitting their old parts and return the vehicle hoping that you won’t catch on until it’s too late to prove.
There is another scam where a straw man rents the vehicle then fake papers are made up and the vehicle is sold. Then they report it stolen.

They did offer a AWD Hemi package in the Chargers and the Magnum for a short period and I bet this was built during that period and snuck out the back door when someone knew what boxes to check. I'm pretty sure they offered it in the police package Chargers. My buddy does have a 15 Durango RT and it is of course AWD and very quick for its size. They pretty much stopped selling it in the Charger with the Hemi because the drive train just couldn't take the power.
They must have beefed up the running gear in the Durangos. If it's ticking you might want to check the roller rockers and the exhaust manifold bolts tend to leak which sounds similar. The tick gets pretty loud when the rollers get really bad it eats the affected cam lobe. My 06 Charger RT doesn't have the vvt setup so isn't affected by the rocker issues.
