  • Palm Springs International is a medium sized, multi-use airport located on the northern end of the city of Palm Springs, California. The traffic mix at the airport includes general and corporate aviation, air carriers, and military. The mix of pilot experience and aircraft capability make Palm Springs a challenging airport for controllers and pilots alike. The airport configuration consists of parallel runways with staggered thresholds and the taxiway system provides access to businesses, terminals, and hangars located on the east and west sides of the airport. Pilots flying into Palm Springs need to be especially aware of the local terrain that surrounds the airport. San Jacinto Peak is just one of several mountains that exceed 10,000 feet and is located just ten miles west of the airport. This video prepares pilots for other challenges, runway configurations and hot spots at PSP.
To address wrong surface events where an aircraft lines up to or lands on the incorrect runway, taxiway, or airport, the FAA released Arrival Alert Notices (AAN) at various airports with a history of misalignment risk. View the PSP Arrival Alert Notice here: www.faa.gov/ai...
The FAA's From the Flight Deck video series uses cockpit-mounted cameras to capture runway and taxiway footage and combines them with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items. Learn more at www.faa.gov/Fr...
This video is informational only and does not replace the pilot’s responsibility to conduct required pre-flight planning in accordance with FAR 91.103.

Easy fix. Change the names to Alpha~green Beta~ red Taxi ~Yellow. Paint both ends of the runways and line them with lights in the corresponding colors. Naming the runways Brenda and Brendda is amazing.

Green and red lights on the ground already have meanings though.
The simple fix would be to add the zero to beginning. So 013L or 031L.

Never flown to PSP but to me is like this, two parallel runways and TWY Charlie in the middle. Runway 31, is 310 degrees (magnetic) from north and the other runway is also 310 degrees from north. So i'm flying toward these runways and i got a visual on them. They told me LEFT! The left runway is the one on my left! Easy enough. That makes the other one 31 RIGHT. If you are coming to land from the opposite direction, You are flying 130 degrees magnetic, so you got runway 13 left which is the 31 right from the opposite direction, and runway 13 right which is rway 31 left. I will look at the diagram to try and understand better the ground situation with the HS. I have been to PS many times because I used to live on the other side of San Jacinto mtns in Hemet. It is great there in the winter time!
