  • Henderson Executive Airport (HND) is small-to-medium-sized, primarily general and corporate aviation airport. It is located south of Las Vegas and west of the city of Henderson in Nevada. The diverse traffic mix includes everything from basic trainers used by the numerous flight schools, all the way up to large cabin class corporate jets. The airport also supports a large helicopter population. The airport configuration consists of two parallel runways and a straightforward taxiway system provides access to all facilities and services located on the west side of the airport. When flying to Henderson for the first time, note that the airport’s associated Class Delta airspace is surrounded by and underlies the Las Vegas McCarren International Airport Class Bravo airspace. This video prepares pilots for other challenges, runway configurations and hot spots at HND.
To address wrong surface events where an aircraft lines up to or lands on the incorrect runway, taxiway, or airport, the FAA released Arrival Alert Notices (AAN) at various airports with a history of misalignment risk. View the HND Arrival Alert Notice here: www.faa.gov/airports/runway_s...
The FAA's From the Flight Deck video series uses cockpit-mounted cameras to capture runway and taxiway footage and combines them with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items. Learn more at www.faa.gov/FromTheFlightDeck

I fly to HND frequently. This is an excellent primer for those who are new to the area.

Also, when doing pattern work, be aware of reporting midfield and how to do it. I primarily train at North Las Vegas and wanted to go fly to Henderson. I didn’t have a good experience with Henderson ATC. But I would say that having to report midfield was new to me and I would need to familiarize myself with it. Just be advised with that too. ATC was really not in a good mood the day I went.

I was there recently and one of the regular controllers is known to be a consistently rude and intolerant A-H. Probably the guy you dealt with. Too bad, as most ATC folk do a great job. Good video of the potential traps.

Overly complicated description of a small, relatively easy airport to use and navigate. The BIGGEST challenge is to not violate Bravo airspace on departure. And be ready to switch radios quickly when handed over to ATC at the big Bravo airport.
