  • North Las Vegas is a medium sized, primarily general, business, and corporate aviation airport located in the city of North Las Vegas, just northwest of the Las Vegas strip. The larger Harry Reid International Airport is located 8 miles south, and Nellis Air Force Base 7 miles east. North Las Vegas has its own Class Delta airspace that underlies the larger Las Vegas Class Bravo. Pilots should make themselves familiar with the airspace and their requirements prior to arriving or departing the field. Being familiar with VFR reporting points found on the sectional chart is helpful for air traffic control. North Las Vegas tower commonly uses the Santa Fe Station Hotel and Casino, located on North Rancho Drive, for the sequencing of aircraft. If you are unfamiliar with this location, let the tower know and they will provide alternate instructions. This video prepares pilots for hot spots, challenges and runway configuration details at VGT.
To address wrong surface events where an aircraft lines up to or lands on the incorrect runway, taxiway, or airport, the FAA released Arrival Alert Notices (AAN) at various airports with a history of misalignment risk. View the VGT Arrival Alert Notice here: www.faa.gov/ai...
The FAA's From the Flight Deck video series uses cockpit-mounted cameras to capture runway and taxiway footage and combines them with diagrams and visual graphics to clearly identify hot spots and other safety-sensitive items. Learn more at www.faa.gov/Fr...
This video is informational only and does not replace the pilot’s responsibility to conduct required pre-flight planning in accordance with FAR 91.103.

Whoever puts these together is a genius. We need these videos for every airport.

I used to instruct out of Henderson executive. KVGT is a challenging airport surface yet, it's great as a learning tool because it's not so hard where a well prepared, attentive, safe student can't mitigate the challenges. The controllers do a GREAT job at North Las Vegas.

This is where I did all my flight training and I never had this issue. The seperation and lighting is pretty well done in my opinion.

I can tell the video was redone to include the 97CX and 160RA incident. Good points in this video

We need to fix this - this video warned against the high risk for misidentification of the landing surface, which might have caused the midair collision. It's difficult to understand how we can have such a total failure of separation at a major controlled airfield.

Hm. I had to fly into KVGT once. Being unfamiliar, I clearly asked the ground controller for "progressive taxi instructions" to the ramp on a slow day. He told me to "taxi to the ramp", and when I got a little confused, he chewed me out. Not all that impressed.
