Well, sewing is for anyone no matter what you’re making. There’s no “sewing projects for women” or “sewing projects for men.” They’re just sewing projects. lol
Great video. The pros is that it shows that with the right equipment and materials anyone can create this backpack. The cons: The overuse of the double sided tape will cause problems for new and intermediate sewers alike. One layer of double sided tape can be problematic, but at times, in this video, there was layers upon layers of double sided tape used. Also there were seams numbers announced that wasn’t being sewn. The seam allowance while sewing the large front pocket on was announced as 1/8 but it was obvious that was 1/4 if not larger. This may not seem important but seam allowance are very very important. ❤
An easier way to turn the fabric inside out for pieces 8 and 9 (time: 18:58) use PVC pipe, hold onto ends and slowly pull down. It won't be as cumbersome.
I love you add clip options . I just see somebody make how bags are made in Asia...why somebody will buy one make these if have great bran just under them noses. Love you guys ...I recommend your channel in sewing community who do bags 🎒. Ppl are so happy when can do leather and heavy duty materials. I just moved to my new home and first think what I think 🤔 I have your video with roman blinds...strait away make me happy 😊
I made this backpack today. Sewed on a 1950’s vintage Singer 111w155. Turning the straps right side out was the most difficult part of the project. Thanks for the excellent instructions!!
Sometimes double sided tape is helpful and sometimes it just gets in the way! Not criticizing just commenting. 😊 I enjoy your videos! I'm saving up for a Fabricator........can't wait!
Your comment is valid and true. For instance if I am making a cushion cover I would not to use seamstick (double sided tape). However, if I were trying to line up a pattern on a cushion when sewing my boxing to the plate I would use the double sided tape as an aid and try to keep it away from my stitch, so it does not show up when the cushion is turned right side out. Thanks for you comment! You will love the Sailrite® Fabricator Sewing Machine!!!!
Great sewing pattern and fabric, I can't wait to make this. I was wondering is the camo is OCP? If so could i get the pattern pieces adjusted so it is oriented correctly? OCP and even the old multicam was meant to be horizontal. The pack the young man had on had the pattern 90 degrees off, vertical. I know it's no big deal to most civilians. But military and ex-military families may like the same orientation as the uniforms. Thanks
Q if i wanted to stitch two bits of wedding not overlaped next to each other to make 1 longer peace is it better to have square ends or different shape the join like two triangles
I am not sure that sewing webbing together without overlapping them would be very strong. If you just butt them up together with a square or 45 degree edge and stitch, you are only depending on the sewing threads to take the weight.
Absolute beginner on your LS1, At 7:10 dont know why I cant line up other half of pocket to sew I tried everything, should I cut relief notches or something ? 😁🙁
When you sew or match up rounded edges, relief cuts are a good idea, they will make it easier for the fabric to take the curve. If it is off a slight bit it will not matter much in the end results.
comment: in making the padded straps. There has to be a right and left so the curve on the foam matches the curve on pattern number 5 while maintaining the fact that the buckles covering the slit remain in the outside. It seems possible if one did not notice this as the foam was being pulled into the straps, one could make two identical straps instead of a left and right. I may not fully see the options here but in looking ahead, I laid out one pulled strap on pattern 5 and made sure the next strap, would end up with the correct curve in the correct place.
@43:20 you didn’t mention which way the banding should face. This is pretty important and getting it wrong is a mistake you likely won’t discover until you turn the bag right side out. Otherwise good video.

@@meh9682 We don't sell Kevlar Sewing Thread, so unfortunately we do not know how it will sew on a Sailrite Ultrafeed Sewing Machine, since it has not been tested. Sorry!
Buy the kit and when you cut out your pattern you can use them as a pattern or make more patterns from them. This will allow you to make design changes and this exact backpack multiple times.
Elizabeth Dettrey you can also melt the edge with a lighter to insure it won’t fray. The backing makes it less prone to but melting the edge pretty much eliminates fraying.

at 6:10 they change the fabric where the basting tape goes, sneaky.....from basting a curved edge to basting the opposite fabric that has a straight edge. at 7.05 you can see the basting tape on the other piece of fabric......
Because of the tight curve the basting tape will not hold as well, even if you apply it to both surfaces, as we tried to do and it still did not hold. So, for this step we showed using wonder clips.

How sturdy is that pack? I want to get into this but I can't afford a good sewing machine at the moment.

patterns are available?
The pattern is plotted right on the fabric. If you want to make multiple, just use the fabric which has the pattern on it as the pattern for others.
@@SailriteDIY I understand, I was only interested in the possibility of obtaining the pattern in some kind of digital format.
@@FreddyD.Rosario Oh, sorry we don't have that available as a digital form.
There's a rumor that every time a sewing kit is sold, that the stock price of the basting tape company jumps.
Does this fabric fray?
Cordura 1000D has a urethane backing which helps to eliminate fraying under normal use.
Elizabeth Dettrey you can also melt the edge with a lighter to insure it won’t fray. The backing makes it less prone to but melting the edge pretty much eliminates fraying.
