  • How much money can you make grinding stumps with a 252 Vermeer stump grinder is the question. I go over the numbers in the video when I started out removing stumps. Can you retire off a stump grinder business?

    The info on this channel is great. Very inspiring. Buying a stump grinder and making money part time seems like a better avenue for me right now than something like an excavator.

    Great video Chris. Your story is very similar to mine. I got my first stump grinder when I was 19. I worked for a tree company full time and the owner only did stumps on trees that we did the tree removal on or the company only did large stump grinding contracts they did no homeowners they would just referral all that work out. Well the guy that my boss referraled all that work out too stiffed my boss on a deal so my boss told me to buy a stump grinder and he would start referring all that work to me. So I went out and bought a Rayco rg20 HD as my first stump grinder and the and he made me keep a logbook on because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to make the $144 dollar payment on it and he told me if I didn't get enough stump referrals off of him he would pay for the grinder and give it to me. The first year I did just over $36000 in stump grinding from him not to bad off a handle bar unit that I bought brand new for like $6500 and spent like another $2500 in maintenance and replacement teeth for the first year . He was a great boss and mentor too work for. And by the way that $36000 was all my regular work hours and on weekends because the deal with my boss is that I would stay for 1 year before I would go out on my own that's all he ever asked from me for all the work he sent me for years and years afterwards until he sold the company in 2003.

    Hopefully everyone is doing stump grinding in future. Maybe even your neighbor's the kid down the road starts spending it's grandpas heritage on a shiny new truck and a grinder, so you can be best friends and grinding colleagues. Hell man, what's going on here with all those business owners inviting competition? Where is the facepalm emoji? Is it so important to catch a like, or am I just missing something?

      Some things are more important than money, like helping others. Besides, competition is only relevant if they could do a better job for less money, and if they do, they'll get the work, and they'll deserve it. Some competition got mad at me for offering to add soil and reseeding work and also offering the alternative of excavating the root ball rather than grinding, all for a reasonable price. I don't see how that's my problem that they're mad at me for that.

    • @ChrissStumpGrinding

      @forrestmiller8698, it all depends on are you trying to make a living or make extra money. You got to hustle a lot in this business to make any kind of money and stay out of debt. The small machines are great to start out with but to do it full time you need a bigger machine or medium size. Thanks for watching!!! Keep grinding!

    2k for a 252? Wow. Now days they’re 25k. How does a part time grinder take on that debt now days? A $500per mo payment isn’t impossible to cover but it’s risky if you’re only doing weekends. Especially if you’re just starting out and you got a mortgage and family to take care of too.

      I am starting to see stump grinders come down in price on Market place a lot compared to several months ago. I would save up and have cash ready for a deal that comes along. It's always the hardest when starting out, but as you go along it gets easier. Thanks Erik

    • @ChrissStumpGrinding
      @ChrissStumpGrinding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Josh, I think you can still make money at 10k on a 252. It may take a little while to make your money back. I would still buy one though. I think the prices are going to drop in the next couple of years on equipment with interest rates going up.

      @@ChrissStumpGrinding yeah I'm gonna buy one for sure, my wife wasn't cool with me thinking about spending that kind of money at first, but now that she sees what kind of money stumps make shes all for it. Should have gotten into this business year's ago. Hopefully my channel keeps getting views like it is and shouldn't be a problem. I'd like a sg40, lots of little gates here. I did a 7 footer with a handle bar machine the other day. Anything with joysticks will be a major upgrade.

    • @ChrissStumpGrinding
      @ChrissStumpGrinding  ปีที่แล้ว

      @ddhdstewf, I think it depends on the person running the machine and if it's gas or diesel also. My stump grinder had around three two hundred hours on it before the rebuild a view months ago. I think diesel stump grinders last longer than gas. Thanks for watching!!!
