I've always wondered why anyone would grind a stump for less than what it costs to rent a grinder, which is typically around $200. That amount should be your absolute minimum charge. This is why many stump grinding professionals struggle to afford new teeth and try to extend the life of a set for months. It's time to raise your prices and charge what you're truly worth, not just what seems fair. Remember, scared money doesn't make money.
Prices vary so wildly around the country but ultimately you’re right. You have to charge by the job.
Mike, you're right. I never had any luck by doing it by the inch.
unless you have 6 or more stump there is now way you should be considering $150/stump. those machines are huge buck. good way to keep you in poverty if you coming out for $150. not to mention maintenance of the machine and cost of those carbides are pricey as well.

How often do you call 811 on Jobs ? I thought we had a job till the owner called and found out a intra net / Gas line was under a huge stump and they flagged it Do Not Dig......?
I not as often as I should. I would always call if I didn't know anything about utilities, and plus, it's the law in my state. You can post hole dig on either side of the stump for the gas line, checking how deep it is. Thanks for watching!! Keep grinding
