I own a stump grinding company in Michigan. I service about and 80 mile radius. I charge 125 minimum but rarely travel that far without more jobs in the area. I service multiple tree services that I have collaborated with on pricing. It's a great business with the right equipment and connections. In order to make it work full time you must network.

I run a landscaping business what I do right now is as I run across stumps I sell them between 10 and $15 per inch with a minimum of $250 per job I sell five or six jobs then I go rent a stump grinder for $300 for 24 hours. I have not grossed less than $1200 in 24 hours.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. I own and operate a stump grinding business myself. I do between 8 and 15 jobs a day. He should be billing $300 an hour with that Bandit. It's small but does a good job. One thing to understand Jack is when you have multiple grinders younow have to hire someone to operate your grinder. I can tell you from experience that I can go many hours and not break anyting but most employees can't go 10 minutes without breaking something. You don't just walk up to this machine and start using it you need to learn how to operate it correctly otherwise it will cause major damage or kill someone. It's hard to find a good operator and if you find one they cost a lot of money.

@TheGeneral970 As far as only stump grinders just a few. Some tree services have a grinder but only use it when they do removals. I grind for many tree services, landscaping companies and property management services.

@@509grind Very nice 👍🏻 your dialed in up there! I live in so cal so I’ll have to look into it. Mountain areas might be best for business. What machine do you recommend? I’m pretty handy I’m a crane/ heavy equipment operator. Should I get a bigger machine like the bandit

@TheGeneral970 for a good all around machine I would recommend the Rayco RG55. You can get that as a tracked unit or a 4 wheel drive unit.

Great vid brother. I recently (Aug 2nd) quit my corporate gig with Amazon Web Services & purchased 3 dump trailers. Only been about 6 weeks, but it was the best thing I could have done & I was inspired by guys like yourself making these vids. Still worry about cash flow over the long term, but I am hustling!! Linked up with a contractor on roof & siding jobs & I am in that $1000 - $1200/day range right now. This stump grinding is another deal I could make fly too in my area I think, but I do not have any time for it right now! Keep up the great info.

Thank you for supporting us small business owners. I am in the Northeast and the terrain is much different. Boulders, Granite ledge do a number on the sharpness of the teeth and need sharpening or replacement more often. Definitely agree with others that you should be technically savvy with the mechanics part of the machine. 👍

I started this about 4 or 5 months ago. Nothing you said was wrong, but it is not a quick start up business, takes time to build. DONT buy a stump grinder and quit your day job the next week, it takes time to build. Also, you had better be mighty handy with a wrench. The machine pummels a stump to death, high maintenance. Still a great gig if you like people. You will talk to a LOT of them.

sending prayers? Is there anything less useful you can do? If god has a plan in place..do your prayers alter it? Does he forget to help ppl if you don't remind him? How many prayers does one half to rack up to get him interested? Why do we have to ask? Ever think maybe he ain't real? Why you need a 'heavenly father' or a 'savior' to help you so much you have to pretend he's real? How come you don't want to grow up & face reality with cold, hard logic?

Had a guy come out this week to remove 14 stumps in my front yard. 4 decent sized stumps and the rest being small bush stumps. Guy showed up with a remote operated machine and removed them all in under 45 minutes. He made 300 in cash in less than an hour.

Stump grinder will always be a money maker the people who can grind them for the people for live in neighborhoods. Out in the sticks, buy big drill bit, drill holes in stump, pour used oil in stump for 2 years, burn stump. In neighborhood, hire stump grinder, pay money. This is a side grind my tree cutter buddy does.

  • @HolySaker
    @HolySaker ปีที่แล้ว +4

Being able to do 1-2k per day JUST grinding is a pipe dream in this business. There is no way in heck to JUST grind stumps. There is a fine line in stump grinding when it becomes to expensive to a contractor you then resort to ripping them out with an excavator. You will run yourself out of work so flippin fast and then there you will sit waiting. Some weeks you get some butter weeks and unfortunately THOSE are the weeks everyone talks about sadly... OMG look how much I can make in a week....
Please if you are the young man wanting to feed his kids, talk with other guys in the business first. The fastest way to devalue the work these companies do is by going in blind. It is armpit work especially if you do the clean up and topsoil installation etc. At a minimum at least be NEAR the market in your area.

Well I'm sure it works a little bit different up here than down there I run a small tree company pretty much up here you have to have a tree guy to feed you stumps to make it because yes Facebook and all this will help you get your feet wet but it can only take you so far where if you have a tree company that calls you up and says hey I got stuff over here for you to do I got to stop over there for you to do you get three or four tree companies that's how you turn your money up here yes we did something grinding at one point in time I didn't make enough money out of it to make it feasible to have the machine so I got out of that part of tree work

Mechanic here.......The maintenace is pretty basic on these grinders. If you hit something, like he mentioned the chainlink, it can be more costly. The teeth are expensive so avoid large rocks or nails in the stumps.
Im interested in the idea of investing into a start up. I live in Pensacola by NAS west entrance. If you would like to meet up for lunch sometime and talk more that would be awesome!! My treat, you can pick the spot. Thanks Jack.

If your unsure about buying one, line up a few jobs and rent one from Home Depot and give it a go! The weekly rate will still leave you room for decent profit and give you a idea on biding, and situations you gotta look for and the actual potential in your area of work. All without putting down 20k.
Personally I’d rather do a thorough good job, don’t rush through it and leave a mess and be at the higher end than be the cheapest guy!

    • @Dryrub808

Dont buy a Bandit. They shake to bits and forever changing the belts. Best grinders are the hydrostatic models that dont have belts. More expensive, but far less maintenance.

@Bert First, i always wanted to do this cos i thought there was a gap in the market and was encouraged by a small handful of tree surgeons that didn't have stump grinders. It worked a treat. Never advertised, didnt need to,BUT, i also did general garden maintenance. I didnt 'pigeonhole ' myself. I spent 40k on setting up properly. Van,ramp, blower, guards etc. Bought a Vermeer stx30 (15k) and a carlton 13hp (3.
      5k).8years ago...good luck
