I thought he got that thing from a cross the street in bins for clothes & shoes. I offered a guy $10, once. He said no. He was going to sell it for more. He said, that he needed to feed his family.😂 Good luck buddy.
I love herbie on the synth brass, pulling faces at the real brass players as they all try and throw each other off as best they can. Such great energy.
We wouldn't have the sounds of today without the sounds of the past, so I don't mind listening to the "ol' school" music ... it's quite charming, I think ... bu ok, I'm probably just an old fool who happens to love jazz and music in general.
This is very true, even then, it's a great novelty of the time, just like old choir samples and crappy pads, you can still make good music with it. That muted trumpet sound was just evil though lol
Herbie Hancock is playing on the Lync MIDI controller. Who knows what he triggers with it, though. I see a Korg Wavestation behind Herbie, and I hear a lot of FM type sounds comping in the background as well.
Al Foster drums, Kenny Garrett alto sax, Bill Evans soprano sax, Foley lead bass, Herbie Hancock keytar, Daryl Johnson electric bass, Chick Corea electric piano, & Miles Davis trumpet. Did I miss anyone?
I can't believe I've found this! The song and appearance of the band gives it the impression this video is one to skip, however I don't think I've EVER heard Miles Davis trade fours and be imitated by ANYONE before...and seem to enjoy it! He even claps Herbie after his solo at 4.15! I don't think people realise how rare the footage in this video is.
A call for Jokerful 89: There is a DVD with the title: MIles Davis at LA VILETTE, Paris 10.7.1991. It was the last Concert in Europe for Miles. I hope, you can get it.
Indeed, every era does have its own sound - and some of those sounds have aged better than others. Please understand that I'm not criticizing the music or the musicians; just the primitive tone of electronic instruments at that time. I'm glad that fans remain interested in and passionate about Herbie's and Miles' music.
Miles evidently had just handed that keyboard to Herbie. Miles introduced the Fender Rhodes to Herbie. Miles you could see was prompting Herbie throughout ..pushing him. Herbie enjoyed it but was relieved when it was over.
Absolutely. Thanks for the civility, it's refreshing. That throwaway observation I made a year ago gets me called a "cunt," has people accusing me of hating jazz (or Herbie, or Miles), not being a "true jazz fan," and all sorts of other idiotic nonsense.
What sort of harmony are the horn players doing? The Demented interval? Diminished/Augmented = Demented. I've seen Herbie live several times over decades, and his band was never this "out-there"... Wherever that is. Miles must have been unset.
@simonfinfon not at all,it's Richard Patterson on bass (sounds very close to Darryl) and Kenny Garrett on alto (who doesn't sound like Ornette at all) This whole concert is great, one of Miles' latest.
LOL...you gottta love this classic jam....!
Herbie paid $39.95 at kmart for that portable casio keyboard
I thought he got that thing from a cross the street in bins for clothes & shoes. I offered a guy $10, once. He said no. He was going to sell it for more. He said, that he needed to feed his family.😂 Good luck buddy.
Geez that fricking keyboard trumpet sounds hilarious xD

It's great to see musicians of this stature having some fun with a classic. I loved it. Bass line particularly strong (with a bit o'" funk)
going with u !
Only legends can sound like this even after 5 decades. Thank you for this wonderful flashback.
They never lose track of where they are at even when wondering far away in their incredible solos!
I like how cameras were mounted on the instruments long before the Area of GoPro
Wine enhances your senses, mood and humor
Great music, greater musicians
Thanks a bunch
i listen to this over and over again -- not for herbie or miles -- but for that jammin rhythm section, my man on bass is as cool as they come
un genio (Miles) e un grandissimo (Hancock). Accoppiata da brividi. Grazie per il post. :)
Il tempo non passa per questi geni! Immortali!!
man dis shit took hold of me at 12R13yrz old&i've bin hookt er'since ya Digg!
I think this performance should not be analyzed musically but more as a fun on the stage. Herbie has such a great humour feel. :)
Well, when you’re playing a *keytar* 😊
I’m not sure Miles is amused though
this shit is getting better and better the longer you listen to it!! AWESOME!!!!
Great vibe, great musicians
with gratitude to this golden time.
Funny how their personas come out on stage, Herbie's playful genius vs Miles' crazy-looking genius.
Herbie Hancock is playing on the Lync MIDI controller. Who knows what he triggers with it, though. I see a Korg Wavestation behind Herbie, and I hear a lot of FM type sounds comping in the background as well.
Yeah Herbie&Miles together!!!!!!!! We miss you Miles-r.i.p forever!!!!!!
Al Foster drums, Kenny Garrett alto sax, Bill Evans soprano sax, Foley lead bass, Herbie Hancock keytar, Daryl Johnson electric bass, Chick Corea electric piano, & Miles Davis trumpet. Did I miss anyone?
Daryl Jones
@@martinhuber9196 I did mention, Darryl Jones. Only thing, the bassist looks like Foley. Actually, it's both.😊👍
Two stars on, really amazing people !
ça me fait plaisir de voir cette amitie musicale qui reunie les grands Musiciens YES !!!!
gracias ! por este regalo.
dude on the soprano sax wanted a solo SO bad😄
Bill Evans, nice guy, great player too.
I would have liked to hear what he had to say
Jajajajaa
god i love these guys
Time hasn't been kind to that keytar sound.
It's like rust marks on a car or early CGI, it has a certain quaint charm.
You got that right, but hey, you gotta try new things. He's innovated a lot that has held up well, so I guess we gotta take the good with the rest.
You're right, it really hasn't. Whenever I hear that keytar, I think a guitar would have been better. But Herbie is awesome.
Herbie is awesome!!
Herbie is genius, this is magic,
Great stuff....!!!...

And the sax player is named Bill Evans! 🎹🙏🏻
I agree. These synths and slap bass were the 80s influenza. Thanks God the horns sound always as horns
Once again, thankd

So much fun they had!
I Honestly Can Not Believe, Herbie Hancock, would ever do such a thing !!!🥺☹️

terribles monstruos x D!
I know Miles pushed Herbie to play that little keyboard..and Herbie was having fun...!!
Miles introduced Herbie to the Fender Rhodes, so I read once..
@simonfinfon not at all,it's Richard Patterson on bass (sounds very close to Darryl) and Kenny Garrett on alto (who doesn't sound like Ornette at all) This whole concert is great, one of Miles' latest.
