    You're Under Arrest is a 1985 album that saw Miles mix pop tunes with political statements about racism, pollution and war. Among other tracks, the album featured Davis' interpretations of two contemporary pop songs: Cyndi Laupers "Time After Time" and Michael Jacksons "Human Natute".
    During the recording sessions, Darryl Jones (A/K/A "The Munch:" Bass) introduced Sting to his longtime idol Miles Davis. Sting was startled when Davis asked him if he could speak French, and since he did, to translate the Miranda Warning into French and yell it into the microphone against a backing track.
    Miranda Warning is a warning given by police in the United States to criminal suspects in police custody, or in a custodial situation, before they are interrogated : You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you. Do you understand these rights as they have been read to you?
    The Miranda warnings were mandated by the 1966 United States Supreme Court decision in the case of Miranda v. Arizona as a means of protecting a criminal suspect's Fifth Amendment right to avoid coercive self-incrimination (see right to silence). The reading of the Miranda warning might be omitted during arrest, such as if the evidence is already sufficient to indict, or if the suspect is talkative and volunteers information (without being asked). The admissibility of conversations, as evidence, is judged on a case-by-case basis, subject to appeal.

    This is my favorite performance of Miles Davis interpreting Time After Time. It is very colorful and has sharp streaks of piercing reds, blues, yellow and greens.

    The version of "Time after Time" Miles plays on the album "Live Around the World" is absolutely heartbreaking. No man has broke so many hearts with so few notes.

      That is THE version. The gaps between the notes are ... can't describe cos I don't the word, if there is one? But as Woody said, just heartbreaking. Annoyingly, I once had a BBC docu video of Miles with that very recording on it and the footage was awesome. One feels an allegiance to Miles above all others. He was a human superstar the likes of which has been rarely emulated.

    Miles Davis was born way before his time. Sorry we do not recognize geniuses until they are gone. His struggle was the same as all of us. We all struggle to be recognized when we are before our time. He put in the work. Forget what people said about him. He was a genius. Too bad we did not give this genius enough credit when he was alive. I love this man and his music. For those who believe in special God given talent , Miles was not only one of a kind, like Bird, he had a God given talent for the impossible, and he knew it. It is too bad we did not. I love you Miles..

      It is a good comment, what a really genius Miles was, but, Miles was truly a very famous person , recognized all over the world,in life,, ,,he gets the credits he deserves, ,,consider the great contract with Columbia Records and his work with Clive Davis ,, he become the most famous jazz player on earth, it is hard to imagine how to go much further in music industry than that...

      Miles Davis was born on time not a min. late, like his unique musical sound for a generation an era, then it repeats itself, time after time, ad infinitum. he blew the Trumpet with magnificent beauty, it was his gift to us all, it is who he is (music) and why he was here, his music was and is aspirational, empowering and inspirational, it goes beyond time and space. And when you his don't hear his music believe me someone on the side of globe is playing it, his music is echoing in the universe.

      Not in this case. I first heard Miles playing with bird and like the rest of our party I instantly saw and heard the genius and I have been a fan since those far off days. Miles is showing here what genius the writer of the tune is.

    Just watched the film"Miles Ahead"....best movie I've seen in many years! Hats off to Don Cheadle, who wrote,directed and played Miles!!!! Kick-ass movie,I highly recommend it.

    Having grown up with his music, I was honorued to be able to do his FOH mix during two European Tours - after that I considered my career as a sound engineer as ended. Working for him was THE highlight.. what else after that?

    I am 56. At 12 I was introduced to jazz by my father who was into Satchmo, Ella, Billie. Then by myself I discovered Chet, Hendrix, Coltrane - & Miles. The heavens opened. Student days I first saw Miles in a tiny cub on the Limmatquai in Zurich ‘73. I stood close to the Messiah. To watch him live getting to the end was too painful. The music remained sublime but at what cost to the physical person? Must these greats Hendrix Coltrane Billie etc kill themselves to leave us such eternal treasures?

    If Miles taught me something it was to open yourself for all kinds of music. I hate it when i read that todays music is shit or something like this. As long as there are people, who are touched by this music its allright.
    Miles didnt play a song on stage the same way he already did before. He changed it. The listener ahs to open himself for his work and let him take you on a journey. And this is what you ought to do with music. Just listen and stop the prejudices.

    I saw Miles live four times - once in 1968, with Williams, Hancock, Carter and Shorter.
    He played on the first true bebop records, with Bird. Not to mention Miles Ahead. I prefer the stuff up until, and including, In a Silent Way, but anything he did is worth listening to. There are only about half a dozen other 20th Century musicians up there with him. As observed by others, he was kinda like Picasso, and I just know Picasso loved him.

    Miles let the trumpet speak in all he played. Besides being a great player, he knew the trumpet was one of the few instruments that, when played right, was unlike all others. A tough instrument to master.

    This is magic right there...and its even more breathtaking, when you read his autobiography and he talks about flying to this concert and suddenly having health-issues, which knocked him out for a whole a day and he just goes on the stage looking like a wreck and perfoms so beautiful....

      Eva Cassidy was also sick and dying when she made a sweet version of this. She and all of Miles' versions make me cry. When I don't have cannabis I play Miles or Eva and the pain stops. (visitor)

    The public has never seen what the SUN can shine it's light into only. We feel it taste it and float away inside of each beautiful note like so many bubbles in the wind. Those notes are still out there somewhere.

    No matter what Miles played on that trumpet, it always had a resonating effect on the heart. This, which is a great rendition of one of my favorite songs, is one example. Rest Easy, Brother Miles 🎺

    I a boy of 3 in 1940 near Afghanistan, an American convoy of lorries passing through got stuck in the monsoon mud. My father, Director of the railways, freed the lorries. The Americans filled our house with all kinds of food, and many "V- Discs" the first vynal records designed to parachute to the front line. Mostly jazz, the first time I heard the likes of Ellington, Armstrong and wonderful groups, not restricted by contracts. Jazz is Amerca's greatest gift to the world.
