Yeah! Two of my fav Winter levels made the list! Yeah the Zelda and Mario entries. I do remember Freezeflame Galaxy making my favorite Mario levels list.
FINALLY! Someone brings up Valak Mountain! It's my personal favorite ice level. And I love the color scheme at night with the crystals and night sky. SO PRETTY!
Also, one hilariously fun thing to do on Valak Mountain is equip as many quick step gems as possible, and get a running start and go on an ice platform, and make sure you're facing a cliff. And with that, you get to go FLYING! Of course, you die when you eventually land, but it's still really fun.
I honestly think that Snowdin is my favorite winter level. It just looks so peaceful and cheery. I especially like the enemies Snowdrake and Icecap in Snowdin since they're so fitting and unique. Also, Sans and Papyrus are just freaking incredible there! And the ice-ing on the cake: Snowdin Town. It just speaks Christmas to me. They even have a Christmas tree! It's just brilliant. :)
Nice list, Adam. I especially agree on number 3. Cool Edge is my favorite ice level, both versions of it, in fact. And if you liked Unleashed Wii, I recommend trying out the HD version, it's a great time (well, minus Eggmanland, for some).
Aw, c'mon, QG! You couldn't even give an Honorable Mention to Flanoir from Tales of Symphonia? Not only is it a beautiful winter setting with an excellent dungeon off in the distance, but you have to love the relationship scenes that play out there!
Oh man I loved World 5 of Tropical Freeze from beginning to end! I especially loved the transition from the jelly factory to the popsicles! Literal eye candy...!

Awakening just... isn't good. After the first couple chapters, you just mindlessly send your units forward as they one round everything. There's no strategy in it at all.

Whelp, I've finally picked up Dust: An Elysian Tail, yet to get around to playing it, but I cannot wait. I loved Megaman X: Command Mission after you recommended it, so I'm sure I'll love this one too.
Of course, as soon as someone says "Holoska" I say "Cool Edge." As for the HD version, it's pretty fun as you run around outside on the ice and over water, and the ice physics are used well. During the night, it combines some impressive-looking aurora effects with fire-spewing enemies and great beat-'em-up and platforming gameplay. The boss fight with Dark Moray plays very similarly, as you have to freeze moray heads on the walls then freeze him to get the smackdown on him. Holoska- the continent on the map. Cool Edge- the zone name.
On the 12th day of Countdowns, my true love gave to me... 12 Monsters freezing 11 Mavericks blasted 10 Mechons leaping 9 Papyrus screaming 8 Yetis loving 7 plumbers skating 6 Kirbys weaving 5 GOLDEN JIGS 4 Frozen Kongs 3 Sledding 'Hogs 2 Fidgets sneeze and a Metroid in a Prime Tri (logy)
I do consider Blizzard Wolfang's stage Megaman X6 to be one of my most favorite winter levels but it would only be the start of my top 4 due to those annoying Ice Physics. My top three are chapter 2 of Jake and Sherry's campaign in RE: 6(And I have my solar flame shield at the ready) because with the first half being an nail-biting search for the data on Jake and a cabin afterwards in a blizzard(Dialogue during this part is funny sometimes), then after a shoot-out inside said cabin, a vehicle section done right, and shortly there after a stealth section inside an ice cavern done right. Then it's the Himalayan ice cavern in Uncharted 2 mainly cause it's such a beautiful level along with some decent puzzles and of course wondering how Nate is able to scale icy walls without any proper climbing gear. And my number 1 is Day 6 from Ninja Gaiden 3/3: Razor's Edge first off the scenario is awesome Ryu is infiltrating an LOA base in Antarctica and just the fact he's doing this in his standard outfit and act like the conditions of the 7th continent isn't affecting him makes him even more of a badass. Then of course after going through an icy cavern(Seems to be theme in good winter levels that an icy cavern has to be part of the equation) you get an exciting boss fight against the Epiagaos which is simply an evil demonic clone of Ryu with all Ryu's gear from the first two Ninja Gaiden games. Capped off with a tense and nail-biting climb up a collapsing ice wall. And those are my top 4 winter levels.
Sweeeet. Sonic Unleashed mentioned in this countdown. 😊 It is by far my favorite Sonic title. Of course, I will admit, it has quite a couple nasty flaws within the PS3 port, in my opinion. Such as the timing for the Light Speed Dash technique you get from Shamar, but Rooftop Run Act 2 in Spagonia shows how it is MAJORLY flawed by the activation of it.
ok what was that Xenoblade clip with the different portraits and the L1/R1 buttons on screen. its not the WII version and the 3DS new or otherwise only has 2 shoulder buttons as far as i know. what did they release it on PS4 or something?
A standout for me would be Snowpoint City and the gym therein in Pokemon Pearl. Not only is the adjacent route where I spent most of my time doing some Speed EV training to keep up with certain legendaries and an excellent place to grind and get items, but the gym's puzzle is one of the best I've ever encountered. It was so fun just slipping and sliding around that I ended up solving the puzzle by total accident. How often can you say that having a good time just derping around on a level was what helped you beat it? :) Also, watching this while my city has had an ongoing dump of snow for the past two days straight with a predicted total of 30-50 cm or so. :/
I have to admit, I never had a problem with ice levels due to me usually playing as Luigi in the GBA remakes of Super Mario World and Bros 3. I do have a couple of honorable mentions which could go in a top 25 winter levels: (unless they break the 1 per franchise rule) Shadow Moses island from Metal Gear Solid 4 (for the nostalgia factor, getting to pilot a Metal Gear and the case of I can not count the MGS1 version) Hailfire Peaks from Banjo Tooie (often overlooked due to the awesomeness of Frezeesy Peak, and it was the original fire and ice combo level) Fendel from Tales of Graces (always showing the bleakness a icyness of winter in the Tales of equivalent to Soviet Russia) Sylvalum from Xenoblade Chronicles X (Beautiful music, gorgeous scenary and lots to do) Saints Row 4: How the Saints saved christmas (Orignally didn't want to include DlC, and this is probably just my opinion, but I thought this was amazing) Mount Gagazet from Final Fantasy X (Music is a selling point to me and the music here is... just..... wow. Also you are close to Zanarkand Ruins.) Showdown at Xia Pi from Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends (does it bother with ice physics? Nope. Why do I like this? Lu Bu's last stand and he goes out in epic fashion!) Mount Wario from Mario Kart 8 (It beats Dk's Snowboard Cross as my favourite Mario kart snow level.) My favorite Winter Levels/Worlds are Winterland(Super Bomberman 3),Snow Land(Kirby Epic Yarn),Snowdin(Undertale) and Peppermint Palace(Kirby and The Amazing Mirror)
While not necessarily a level, I do really like the winter season of the Persona 4 Golden remake. If not just for the incredible Snowflakes track, the hidden dungeon midway through February (should the Aeon SL be maxed, of course) and a creative boss at the end beautifully caps off an interesting sub-plot that helps answer some questions with the game's final boss.
Alright let's see what ice levels get it right: 12: Obligatory Monster Hunter Level. I can dig it. 11. Glacia-what? No matter mega man entry done! 10. Really Xenoblade this early? No matter. You took my joke! 5. *Flame Shield up* I haven't actually played this game. But it is quite charming. Thankfully rest of the segments didn't melt. 4. Frosty indeed! I'm getting cold just looking at it! 3. This was actually my first sonic game and boy did I enjoy this despite all the deaths. 2. Yeah this game is awesome and the penultimate level is great as well. 1. Obvious choice is obvious. But hey I beat the game and it looks pretty.

I'm generally a huge sucker for winter levels. Some of my favourites are Valak Mountain (Xenoblade) Silessia (Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War) Anri's way (Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem) That one cold room in Luigi's Mansion (Luigi's Mansion) Mt. Silver (Pokemon HG/SS [if memory serves, it wasn't snowy in the originals]) All of World 6 (Super Mario Bros. 3) Lorule Death Mountain (Link Between Worlds)
On the xenoblade chronicles section of this video what system are those L and R buttons from because i dont recognize them from the wii or new 3ds port

12: Ah, the Frozen Seaway! The perfect area to tango with Zamtrios, Lagombi, Khezu (Unfortunately). The tundra in MH3U and MHF2's (and Generations to represent Pokke) Arctic Ridge are quite nice places as well... But the arctic feels more... chilling and cool. (Sorry. And KINDA not sorry.) 11: Ah, another trap by the immortal genocidal bastard Vile, in icy mountains. Lovely. And Vile? Jigoku wo, Kisama ni. HELL 2 U! 10: I haven't gotten to Valak Mountain yet... Though it does look gorgeous! And go to hell too, Mumkhar. 9: Hey, I guess it had to be mentioned at some point. It's SNOW wonder! **Sans plays the trombone... And Papyrus yells due to how BAD the pun was. Nyeheheh.** Also, DAMN IT, FLOWEY! 8: Hoo, chilling. When it comes to icy Zelda dungeons, I'm only experienced with Snowhead temple from Majora's Mask... which was enjoyable. Thanks to the fact that I have the 3DS version. 7: Hailfire Peaks, planet version. Must be cool to checkout... But I can't use the Wii. Because no TV. 6: Time for the festivities! Or, should I say... the FELT-IVITIES! Eat your heart out, Chugga. 5: A classic. Shame my experience with Banjo-Kazooie is VERY limited... I played once or twice as a kid at the home of a friend. 4: Frosty Fruits makes me hungry for fruit Ice lollies.. 3: Here's another game I wanna play when I can. 2: Buying Dust on Steam is a decision I will NEVER regret. Because it's awesome. 1: MAAAAN, I wish I could play Metroid Prime!

A nice detail with Prime's Gravity Suit is that in addition to letting you move easier in water it also lets you see much more easily.

Uh, dumb question...During #10, I noticed the buttons for the controller say L1/R1. I don't know of any Nintendo controller that has those button designations. Am I seeing things?

12: Ah, the Frozen Seaway! The perfect area to tango with Zamtrios, Lagombi, Khezu (Unfortunately). The tundra in MH3U and MHF2's (and Generations to represent Pokke) Arctic Ridge are quite nice places as well... But the arctic feels more... chilling and cool. (Sorry. And KINDA not sorry.)
11: Ah, another trap by the immortal genocidal bastard Vile, in icy mountains. Lovely. And Vile? Jigoku wo, Kisama ni. HELL 2 U!

8: Hoo, chilling. When it comes to icy Zelda dungeons, I'm only experienced with Snowhead temple from Majora's Mask... which was enjoyable. Thanks to the fact that I have the 3DS version.
