Glad that pokemon made it to the list. Too many people ignore that aspect, pretending it doesn't exist. There is a reason why the people of the pokemon world are desperate to keep the peace that they manage to obtain, because they know what the alternative is.
my personal honorable mentions: - The Fall from Persona 3. the chilling part is, there's no fanfare, no buildup. the characters choose to kill the Nyx Avatar, then they forget all about the Dark Hour and Personas. and then the world just ends. - the ending of Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter DS. i'm not going to spoil it because you really should play this game, but i will say, it's stuck with the fans for so long for a reason. - Mitch Conner's Election from South Park: The Fractured but Whole. it's incredibly disturbing that one kid with a hand puppet could run a town into the ground just by making every day Christmas...less so when you have to beat up a group of Satan-worshipping forest animals with Santa Claus as a teammate. - The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History from Danganronpa. it's a lot more disturbing than the name would imply
Ironically, the buildup to the Fall only happens after you’re already on track to stop it. Which is a shame, because that last month is one of the most depressing things in all of video games.

I think that the Fall of Yggdrasil in Dragon Quest 11 should have at least been an honorable mention. Seriously, the source of Life falls and Devistates almost the whole of Erdea. And whatever IS left standing is likely being either ravaged, in a state of ruin or taken over by Mordegan's forces.
*SPOILERS* Yeah, a disaster so grand, you had to go back in time just to prevent it. And on that note, the revival of Grima in Fire Emblem: Awakening should have also got a n honorable mention.
Yeah, this. Even at the end of the day killing Mordegon wouldn't save the world per say, the countless lives lost, including Veronica, and worst of all despite calamos being nuked the darklings still wandered. Man time travel can fix woes or make woes
One good I can think of the Invasion of the Astral Plane in Astral Chain. An event that left 90% of the world’s overall population dead and the last remaining 10% percent living on an artificial continent called The Ark as the invasion left all the world’s land inhabitable. And even then the people of The Ark aren’t safe as they are under constant attack by chimaeras, the inhabitants of the Astral Plane who will drag anything they find into the Astral Plane where any organic being will be slowly corrupted and transformed into monster called an aberration but even then you don’t have to be in the Astral Plane to be corrupted, just being in the presence of a chimera or a place where they’ve been will cause a person to start redshifting soon to turn into an aberration. Doesn’t help that chimeras are invisible to the naked eye with the only way to see them is for you to be redshifting or have a Legion, which is The Ark greatest defense against chimera but all Legions are captured chimeras repurposed into weapons against their kind and they aren’t happy about that which is why they’re kept on that “Astral Chain” but only a few people even have the ability to wield a Legion so numbers are limited. One of the biggest disaster to befall The Ark was the invasion of Zone 09 which was biggest chimera invasion, so bad that in the end the government completely sealed Zone 09 from the rest of The Ark leaving it’s people in poverty and little protection from the chimeras even though Zone 09 still has most invasions out of everywhere else on the Ark. And there’s a woman named Jena Anderson who’s trying to speed up Earth’s destruction by creating large homunculi to cause large damages and spread even more redshift to the people. So yeah the people of The Ark have it bad, real bad.
Square really love its disasters, and speaking of which, I want to share an honorable mention that, in my opinion, is a bit better than the Day of Lavos. SPOILERS ahead from a specific Square game.... The Armageddon from Live-A-Live idk if this counts but fuck it, I love this game so much. The main villain of the game, Odio, has two phases in the final battle, and if you lose in the second one, you get the bad ending: Armageddon. If you think Lavos dooming the future was bad, then get a load of this: Armageddon not only destroys the entire universe, but also the entire timeline, as in the past, present and future are wiped from existence. Literally everything cease to exist.
Explorers of the Sky, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time are the few games that do Time travel pretty correctly, because they know how to integrate it into the plot properly and make it so that you have a motivation to prevent any catastrophe.
Spoilers for Horizon Zero Dawn.... The Faro Plague. Ted Faro builds and sells battle robots to various militaries around the world with the ability to create swarms of other robots in order to overwhelm enemy troops. However one day one such swarm goes haywire and attacks it's own allies. On top of this there is no way to take back control of the robots because Faro in his infinite wisdom.. did not include a backdoor feature in order to prevent his robots from being hijacked! And on top of that the robots have reverted to their default programming of running on bio-organic fuel, killing innocent people around the world and using them as sustanence! The few survivors end up having to shelter in bunkers. The only reason the human race survived at all was thanks to Faro's former employee Elizabet Sobek when she developed the Zero Dawn Project.
I'd like to bring up that even Sonic games had some dark points. SA2 finale had Final Hazard almost collided with Earth if Sonic and Shadow didn't stop it. Shadow the Hedgehog had Black Doom make an alliance with Gerald Robotnik. Even Sonic Unleashed had the opening of Eggman ripping the Chaos Emeralds out of Super Sonic to awaken Dark Gaia.
Hate to be that guy, But you forgot to mention the part in unleashed when he uses the chaos emeralds to wake up dark gaia via space lazer tearing the crust of the planet to pieces and possibly killing 900,000 people at least

To be honest, I was confused about this list, because of the conditions you thought were required to be consider a disaster, but as I watched your list, I kinda understand - a cause, a spread and a result/impact of said cause. And #1 was one of my choices of a disaster. We all know how powerful the Final Fantasy's Bahamut Eidolon really is, a dragon that, along the years and games, has perform all kind of jobs (a king, a savior, a friend, a monster, a slave, a god, etc.) and all shapes, sizes and forms, but in FF14, with Primal Bahamut, he was the Incarnation of Destruction, and that sequence when he appears and destroys everything is, by far, the greatest moment in gaming history.
Surprised White Chlorinarion Syndrome from NieR wasn't included. I mean, it pretty much wiped out humanity to the point where their souls are now seen as monsters while their replica bodies live out normal lives hundreds of years later.

Yeah, Operation: Ravage from ACZ and the Ulysses asteroid from AC4/Legacy are *THE* most influential events in the Ace Combat series. The former is even playable.
Not really sure how well this qualifies, but my personal pick would be Mustache Girl's rise to power in A Hat In Time. A whole planet got turned into a lava-filled hellscape, all because of an overzealous girl obsessed with justice who obtained power over time itself. Truly, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I'm anticipating the Nocturne remaster anxiously, as far as S.E.E.S. being better than the Pantom Thieves, I gotta respectfully disagree, while some characters are amazing, some just aren't as good, i.e. Junpei & Fuuka, The Phantom Thieves are all properly developed

I feel like the Great War from the Fallout franchise deserves an honorable mention due to how well-known it is, even if it is a bit of a cliche one. I do have to say that this was a very good list with some great choices, even though I don't agree with all of them.

(7th Dragon III spoiler alert) The worst part about the 7th Dragon disaster is that just before that, there's a chapter where you do tons of quests, ending the quest chain with everyone you helped taking a photo... EVERYONE you've helped at that point dies when ND reveals herself... that was a really heartbreaking moment

rumor has it that spec ops allowed you to choose between firing the white phosphor or turn away, but after the majority of play-testers refused to fire the phosphor, they removed the option to give up and walk away. no idea if this is true however.
The Great Twilight from Cold Steel 3. Watching your classmate die by a corrupted holy beast for a ritual you try to prevent, only for your efforts to be for naught, as Rean's ogre powers consume him and he kills the beast in a blind rage, setting the world on a one way trip to damnation.

Funny how FFXIV itself has no shortage of disasters, even if only a few of them were actually shown of (or at least their effects) We've got: -The seventh umbral calamity as listed in this video -The six calamities preceding that -Each of these seven calamities destroying one of the 13 'shard worlds' -The flood of darkness which lead the thirteenth shard world to become the void And lastly but certainly not least: -The flood of light destroying 90% of the first shard world and being a key factor in the bioweapon 'black rose' causing the eighth umbral calamity, and preventing that (and by extension the first shard world's complete destruction) becomes the entire goal of XIV's most recent expansion. Edit: And how can I forget the Final Days which lead to the world splitting into fourteen parts tp begin with?
Don't forget that all of these have something to do with the Ancients, also known as the Ascians, who are actually causing these calamities...And due to spoilers, I can't really say more than that.
You want to see the Aragami Situation at it's worst may I direct you to GE3 where "massive spoiler alert" Fenrir the somewhat noble organization from the first two games is now gone and replaced by a new military organization called Glipner and unlike in Fenrir a very high number of higher-ups in Glipner are corrupt scumbags, the world is covered in ash that is toxic to humans forcing the remnants of humanity to live in mobile ports and life in the mobile ports with the majority of mobile ports including the one the main hero/heroine, and his/her squad start in Port Pennywort being run by corrupt scumbags in bed with the corrupt higher-ups of Glipner, with the only expectation being the mobile port that adopts the main hero/heroine, and his/her squad Port Chrysanthemum aka the only Glipner sponsored mobile port actually ran by people who are actually kind, and decent and not corrupt scumbags, and the only things that can survive the toxic ash-laden wasteland that was once Earth are the Aragami especially the newly discovered Ash Aragami who are Aragami that have specifically evolved to essentially be the Apex Predators in the ash-covered hellhole that was once Earth, and the newest type of God Eater the Advanced God Eater or A.G.E for short. And if you think becoming an A.G.E is to an extent a good thing for the most part it's not because for starters unlike the higher-ups at Fenrir who actually gave young teens especially orphans the option of whether they willingly want to under go the experimentation and get Oracle Cells aka Aragami Cells implanted into them and then given the God Arc Compatibility Test to see if he, or she can become a God Eater or willingly refuse, the corrupt higher-ups at Glipner essentially kidnap young teens and force them to undergo the experimentation aka inject them with Ash Aragami cells without their consent, and forced them to undertake the God Arc Compatibility Test in order to turn them into A.G.E.S, and the ones like the main hero/heroine who survive getting turned into a A.G.E don't fare much better as the corrupt higher-ups at Glipner, and the corrupt scumbags who run 99% of the mobile ports and the people living in said mobile ports run by corrupt scum-bags treat the A.G.E.S horribly and by treat them horribly I mean force them to fight giant monsters that want to kill them and pretty much have 0 notions of worrying about them dying, lock them up in jail cells, and of course the corrupt higher-ups of Glipner make it worse by constantly churning out propaganda painting the main hero/heroine and the rest of the A.G.E.S as bloodthirsty, monstrous, Human/Ash Aragami Hybrids who are just as bloodthirsty, heartless, and monstrous as the actual Ash Aragami and this is done intentionally in order to have humans distrust the A.G.E.S in order to force the A.G.E.S to accept the notion of being attack/guard dogs with no free will, and no rights again the only mobile port that actually treats the main hero/heroine, and the rest of the A.G.E.S with decency, and respect aka treat them like the humans they actually are is Port Chrysanthemum and again that's only due to Port Chrysanthemum being run by people who are actually kind-hearted folks, and not corrupt scumbags.

But yeah, the world of God Eater was bad enough in the first game, but it just kept getting worse. Unfortunately, mankind's attempts at making things better only seem to result in making things worse as was the case in God Eater 3.
Great list! 🎉 I would give an honorable mention to Drakengard's "joke" ending where the protagonists end up in modern day Tokyo. It was kind of a "wtf okay then" ending that later became the foundation for the post-apocalyptic Nier series. Also, FFXIV's destruction is unique in that the original 1.0 game is functionally akin to lost media now! And, oh boy, that game's world is no stranger to apocalypse. That was the *Seventh* Umbral Calamity. Not to mention what we learn in Shadowbringers and Endwalker.
I would like to nominate my own honorable mention: "The End" from Fortnite. For those unaware: At the end of Season 3, a meteor crashed into the island, and from there, an entire storyline spanning a couple years and many seasons unfolded, culminating in Season X, where a spacetime anomaly known as the Zero Point uncovered at the end of the previous season proceeded to fuck with various points on the island, and at the end of it all, a rocket previously seen only at the tail end of Season 4 launched...And then everything went to hell. In a spectacle not unlike in the #1 entry on this countdown, the rocket, along with the aforementioned meteor(Which had been frozen in time for the duration of Season X) dissapeared and then re-emerged, as the changed points of interest broke down and copies of the rocket flew everywhere through rifts and such, culminating in all the rockets reappearing along with the meteor, which they guided to crash into the Zero Point, resulting in a massive explosion that launched everyone far away from the island...Before the Zero Point became a black hole that sucked in everyone and everything...Including the game itself, as the original Fortnite island was completely engulfed in the singularity, which for a couple days, was the only thing remaining, even when you exited and relaunched the game. And just like with #1 on this list, from the ashes rose a new, even better version of the game.
Some of my own personal mentions -White Chlorination from Nier -Nier with you being the main reason the world gets doomed a second time. -All of the nonsense of Nier: Automata -Drakengard 3's war of the Intoners -Darkengard 3's subsequent murder of all the Intoners. -Drakengard 3's "The Flower" as a result of the last thing. -Drakengard 1. Just. All of it and all of the endings. I mean jeez man. -Persona 3's fate of the world -SMTIV law ending and to an even greater extent the White ending -Last of Us. Yes I know most zombie plots would work here, but man Last of Us can hit you hard in the feels -Warframe. Literally any and everything the Orokin touched. -Metro. I feel like that fits more than fallout cause of how depressing it can be. -and many more I cant think of at the moment
At least the original FFXIV helped Square Enix learn from their mistakes in regards to building a better MMO but man someone at Square was trigger-happy to blow up the entire world in a beautiful and fiery explosion. Almost seemed like they watched some of joshscorcher’s TH-cam videos lol

Yep, figured Square deciding "Welp, we blew it, but the show must go on! We're not going to just kill it, we're going to kill it and have it be the most amazing thing anyone ever sees!" would be number one. And I have a feeling that if Bahamut's Teraflare wasn't number 1, then what happened to the First would be. (To be vague for the folks who are interested in XIV but haven't gotten to Shadowbringers yet - 90% of the First is straight-up uninhabitable and the remaining 10% is dealing with what is essentially Square Enix's light-based take on Dragon Age's Archdemons, and that's just the short version). Or what happened _WAY_ back in the lore for XIV. Or the other six End of an Era-like situations that also happened in the Lore (There's a reason for the whole "Astral Era"/"Umbral Era" thing). Wow, XIV just has a good few moments that would classify for this list.

I was beginning to think FF14's demise would be on here after thinking about what would make it onto this list. I haven't played the game, but I know enough about it to hear how bad of a game it originally was before being remade into something great. I know my boyfriend plays the game to this day.

I honestly was about to say FFXIV should've been an honorable mention... And then I saw what you had for number 1... and I was not disappointed. You gave me goosebumps the whole way through that entry.
My personal pick would be the Ashstorm & Ashborn Aragami from God Eater 3,(Spoiler) An accident which mainly occurred because a project was rushed resulting in this whole situation causing the government to create AGEs(Artificial God Eaters) which are forced into the ash ridden areas to fight their battles and aren't even treated fairly (Looking at you Pennywort!), don't even get me started on Crimson Queen.
I actually did a earlier comment on how the creation of the Ashlands, and the the birth of the Ash/Ashborn Aragami in God Eater 3 is the Aragami crisis at it's worst along with how F'd up the Ash-Covered Hellhole that was once Earth is especially once the somewhat noble organization from the first two games Fenrir, got replaced by the mostly corrupt organization Glipner, including the process of creating the A.G.E.S aka the Adaptive God Eaters which boils down to kidnap young boys, and girls and inject them with Oracle Cells that come from the Ashborn Aragami, and undertake the God Arc Compatibility Test against their will, and those that become A.G.E.S are forced to go out and fight giant monsters that want to kill them, and treated unfairly with the exception of Port Chrysanthemum aka the only Mobile Port ran by decent people who actually treat the A.G.E.S, and Phym with respect, fairness, and kindness.

As the Trailer/Opening to FFXIV Shadowbringers said, " This tragedy, greater even than the Seventh Umbral Calamity, must be undone"... (minor SPOILERS) (TL;DR Noah-Flood then zombie-apocalypse) In Shadowbringers, we get Isekai'd to Norvrandt, the last continent remaining, as the rest of the world has been swallowed by The Flood of Light (like the Noah flood, but it also bleached everything into oblivion, leaving naught but a white desert that kills you slowly)... And for 100+ years since, till our arrival, Norvrandt had been plauged by an eternal daylight, and monsters known as Sin Eaters, which are essentially Light-demons... To make matters worse, Sin Eaters hunt down EVERYTHING, not just people... and anything they kill becomes another Sin Eater... Furthermore, there are especially powerful Sin Eaters, know as Lightwardens, that weaker ones tend to gather around like a queen-bee... It needs to be slain to free the region of Light... but it can't be killed, because doing so releases its Light, which immediately floods into the nearest living thing, and turns it into a Lightwarden, so it's as if it was never slain in the first place; and it might end up stronger, depending on what killed it...
QG stated in a comment that the Elf Wars, and Neo Arcadia were way to obvious choices. Plus if a apocalypse-esque disaster from a Megaman game did get on the countdown it would've been the potential bad ending to the Eurasia Space Colony drop for obvious reasons.
For my honorable mention. The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event Ib Human History from Danganronpa. Now that may sound like an exaggeration when you read it. It makes it sound like it's the end of the world. Yeah that name is not an exaggeration.
I'm somewhat disappointed that the Elf Wars conflict from the Megaman Zero Series isn't even mentioned. I mean, this conflict wiped out 60% of all humans and 90% of all Reploids from the world.
A personal pick of mine would have to go to the Great Calamity from Breath of the Wild. Sure you wake up, explore a bit, activate the Great Plateau Tower, and then see Calamity Ganon circling Hyrule Castle- wait what? Yeah, from that moment, you know something's off the second Ganon is seen not even after leaving the first area puts the idea in your mind that something's not right. And it eventually is hammered home when a Decayed Guardian comes back to life. And after playing a bit more and completing all 4 shrines on the Great Plateau, you then see King Rhoam's ghost who then reveals the truth: Ganon destroyed Hyrule a Century ago using the Guardians & Divine Beasts. Not only does this make it confirm your suspicion, it gives you a reason to take down Calamity Ganon, with or without the Divine Beasts & Master Sword. Edit: anyone else excited for Age of Calamity?
My favorite pick has to be the endings of Drakengard, especially ending E, which leads into the post-apocalyptic Earth we experience in Nier and Nier Automata.

- The Fall from Persona 3. the chilling part is, there's no fanfare, no buildup. the characters choose to kill the Nyx Avatar, then they forget all about the Dark Hour and Personas. and then the world just ends.
- the ending of Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter DS. i'm not going to spoil it because you really should play this game, but i will say, it's stuck with the fans for so long for a reason.
- Mitch Conner's Election from South Park: The Fractured but Whole. it's incredibly disturbing that one kid with a hand puppet could run a town into the ground just by making every day Christmas...less so when you have to beat up a group of Satan-worshipping forest animals with Santa Claus as a teammate.
- The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History from Danganronpa. it's a lot more disturbing than the name would imply

Ironically, the buildup to the Fall only happens after you’re already on track to stop it. Which is a shame, because that last month is one of the most depressing things in all of video games.

One good I can think of the Invasion of the Astral Plane in Astral Chain. An event that left 90% of the world’s overall population dead and the last remaining 10% percent living on an artificial continent called The Ark as the invasion left all the world’s land inhabitable. And even then the people of The Ark aren’t safe as they are under constant attack by chimaeras, the inhabitants of the Astral Plane who will drag anything they find into the Astral Plane where any organic being will be slowly corrupted and transformed into monster called an aberration but even then you don’t have to be in the Astral Plane to be corrupted, just being in the presence of a chimera or a place where they’ve been will cause a person to start redshifting soon to turn into an aberration. Doesn’t help that chimeras are invisible to the naked eye with the only way to see them is for you to be redshifting or have a Legion, which is The Ark greatest defense against chimera but all Legions are captured chimeras repurposed into weapons against their kind and they aren’t happy about that which is why they’re kept on that “Astral Chain” but only a few people even have the ability to wield a Legion so numbers are limited. One of the biggest disaster to befall The Ark was the invasion of Zone 09 which was biggest chimera invasion, so bad that in the end the government completely sealed Zone 09 from the rest of The Ark leaving it’s people in poverty and little protection from the chimeras even though Zone 09 still has most invasions out of everywhere else on the Ark. And there’s a woman named Jena Anderson who’s trying to speed up Earth’s destruction by creating large homunculi to cause large damages and spread even more redshift to the people. So yeah the people of The Ark have it bad, real bad.

Square really love its disasters, and speaking of which, I want to share an honorable mention that, in my opinion, is a bit better than the Day of Lavos.

The Armageddon from Live-A-Live
idk if this counts but fuck it, I love this game so much.
The main villain of the game, Odio, has two phases in the final battle, and if you lose in the second one, you get the bad ending: Armageddon. If you think Lavos dooming the future was bad, then get a load of this: Armageddon not only destroys the entire universe, but also the entire timeline, as in the past, present and future are wiped from existence. Literally everything cease to exist.
For some reason, Sands of Destruction was one of the first games that came to mind for this list.
Explorers of the Sky, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time are the few games that do Time travel pretty correctly, because they know how to integrate it into the plot properly and make it so that you have a motivation to prevent any catastrophe.
Spoilers for Horizon Zero Dawn....
The Faro Plague. Ted Faro builds and sells battle robots to various militaries around the world with the ability to create swarms of other robots in order to overwhelm enemy troops. However one day one such swarm goes haywire and attacks it's own allies. On top of this there is no way to take back control of the robots because Faro in his infinite wisdom..
did not include a backdoor feature in order to prevent his robots from being hijacked! And on top of that the robots have reverted to their default programming of running on bio-organic fuel, killing innocent people around the world and using them as sustanence! The few survivors end up having to shelter in bunkers. The only reason the human race survived at all was thanks to Faro's former employee Elizabet Sobek when she developed the Zero Dawn Project.
I'd like to bring up that even Sonic games had some dark points. SA2 finale had Final Hazard almost collided with Earth if Sonic and Shadow didn't stop it. Shadow the Hedgehog had Black Doom make an alliance with Gerald Robotnik. Even Sonic Unleashed had the opening of Eggman ripping the Chaos Emeralds out of Super Sonic to awaken Dark Gaia.
Hate to be that guy, But you forgot to mention the part in unleashed when he uses the chaos emeralds to wake up dark gaia via space lazer tearing the crust of the planet to pieces and possibly killing 900,000 people at least

To be honest, I was confused about this list, because of the conditions you thought were required to be consider a disaster, but as I watched your list, I kinda understand - a cause, a spread and a result/impact of said cause.
And #1 was one of my choices of a disaster. We all know how powerful the Final Fantasy's Bahamut Eidolon really is, a dragon that, along the years and games, has perform all kind of jobs (a king, a savior, a friend, a monster, a slave, a god, etc.) and all shapes, sizes and forms, but in FF14, with Primal Bahamut, he was the Incarnation of Destruction, and that sequence when he appears and destroys everything is, by far, the greatest moment in gaming history.

A whole planet got turned into a lava-filled hellscape, all because of an overzealous girl obsessed with justice who obtained power over time itself. Truly, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The worst part about the 7th Dragon disaster is that just before that, there's a chapter where you do tons of quests, ending the quest chain with everyone you helped taking a photo... EVERYONE you've helped at that point dies when ND reveals herself... that was a really heartbreaking moment

rumor has it that spec ops allowed you to choose between firing the white phosphor or turn away, but after the majority of play-testers refused to fire the phosphor, they removed the option to give up and walk away. no idea if this is true however.
I think Void Dark blowing up Brutal Beast in Disgaea 5 could fit on here. Especially considering he did that without leaving his castle.
The Great Twilight from Cold Steel 3. Watching your classmate die by a corrupted holy beast for a ritual you try to prevent, only for your efforts to be for naught, as Rean's ogre powers consume him and he kills the beast in a blind rage, setting the world on a one way trip to damnation.

You want to see the Aragami Situation at it's worst may I direct you to GE3 where "massive spoiler alert" Fenrir the somewhat noble organization from the first two games is now gone and replaced by a new military organization called Glipner and unlike in Fenrir a very high number of higher-ups in Glipner are corrupt scumbags, the world is covered in ash that is toxic to humans forcing the remnants of humanity to live in mobile ports and life in the mobile ports with the majority of mobile ports including the one the main hero/heroine, and his/her squad start in Port Pennywort being run by corrupt scumbags in bed with the corrupt higher-ups of Glipner, with the only expectation being the mobile port that adopts the main hero/heroine, and his/her squad Port Chrysanthemum aka the only Glipner sponsored mobile port actually ran by people who are actually kind, and decent and not corrupt scumbags, and the only things that can survive the toxic ash-laden wasteland that was once Earth are the Aragami especially the newly discovered Ash Aragami who are Aragami that have specifically evolved to essentially be the Apex Predators in the ash-covered hellhole that was once Earth, and the newest type of God Eater the Advanced God Eater or A.G.E for short. I would give an honorable mention to Drakengard's "joke" ending where the protagonists end up in modern day Tokyo. It was kind of a "wtf okay then" ending that later became the foundation for the post-apocalyptic Nier series.
Also, FFXIV's destruction is unique in that the original 1.0 game is functionally akin to lost media now! And, oh boy, that game's world is no stranger to apocalypse. That was the *Seventh* Umbral Calamity. Not to mention what we learn in Shadowbringers and Endwalker.
I would like to nominate my own honorable mention: "The End" from Fortnite.
For those unaware: At the end of Season 3, a meteor crashed into the island, and from there, an entire storyline spanning a couple years and many seasons unfolded, culminating in Season X, where a spacetime anomaly known as the Zero Point uncovered at the end of the previous season proceeded to fuck with various points on the island, and at the end of it all, a rocket previously seen only at the tail end of Season 4 launched...And then everything went to hell. In a spectacle not unlike in the #1 entry on this countdown, the rocket, along with the aforementioned meteor(Which had been frozen in time for the duration of Season X) dissapeared and then re-emerged, as the changed points of interest broke down and copies of the rocket flew everywhere through rifts and such, culminating in all the rockets reappearing along with the meteor, which they guided to crash into the Zero Point, resulting in a massive explosion that launched everyone far away from the island...Before the Zero Point became a black hole that sucked in everyone and everything...Including the game itself, as the original Fortnite island was completely engulfed in the singularity, which for a couple days, was the only thing remaining, even when you exited and relaunched the game. And just like with #1 on this list, from the ashes rose a new, even better version of the game.
Yeah. It was crazy.

(To be vague for the folks who are interested in XIV but haven't gotten to Shadowbringers yet - 90% of the First is straight-up uninhabitable and the remaining 10% is dealing with what is essentially Square Enix's light-based take on Dragon Age's Archdemons, and that's just the short version). Or what happened _WAY_ back in the lore for XIV. Or the other six End of an Era-like situations that also happened in the Lore (There's a reason for the whole "Astral Era"/"Umbral Era" thing).
Wow, XIV just has a good few moments that would classify for this list.

For my dishonorable mentions (yes, I mean dishonorable since they are disasters that happen in-game), they would include:
-The Federation hijacking ODIN in Ghosts.
-Operation Cinder in Battlefront 2.
-The earthquake in Battlefield 3.
-Craft nuking Neo Arcadia in MegaMan Zero 4 (it's an orbital laser weapon, but you know what I mean).
-The Fall of Reach in Halo Reach.
-E-Day in Gears of War.

Holy Crap 7th Dragon! Honestly I'm surprised someone is talking about it, this game is in dire need of a remaster or sequel.
I was beginning to think FF14's demise would be on here after thinking about what would make it onto this list. I haven't played the game, but I know enough about it to hear how bad of a game it originally was before being remade into something great. I know my boyfriend plays the game to this day.

I honestly was about to say FFXIV should've been an honorable mention... And then I saw what you had for number 1... and I was not disappointed. You gave me goosebumps the whole way through that entry.
My personal pick would be the Ashstorm & Ashborn Aragami from God Eater 3,(Spoiler) An accident which mainly occurred because a project was rushed resulting in this whole situation causing the government to create AGEs(Artificial God Eaters) which are forced into the ash ridden areas to fight their battles and aren't even treated fairly (Looking at you Pennywort!), don't even get me started on Crimson Queen.
I actually did a earlier comment on how the creation of the Ashlands, and the the birth of the Ash/Ashborn Aragami in God Eater 3 is the Aragami crisis at it's worst along with how F'd up the Ash-Covered Hellhole that was once Earth is especially once the somewhat noble organization from the first two games Fenrir, got replaced by the mostly corrupt organization Glipner, including the process of creating the A.G.E.S aka the Adaptive God Eaters which boils down to kidnap young boys, and girls and inject them with Oracle Cells that come from the Ashborn Aragami, and undertake the God Arc Compatibility Test against their will, and those that become A.G.E.S are forced to go out and fight giant monsters that want to kill them, and treated unfairly with the exception of Port Chrysanthemum aka the only Mobile Port ran by decent people who actually treat the A.G.E.S, and Phym with respect, fairness, and kindness.

(minor SPOILERS) (TL;DR Noah-Flood then zombie-apocalypse)
In Shadowbringers, we get Isekai'd to Norvrandt, the last continent remaining, as the rest of the world has been swallowed by The Flood of Light (like the Noah flood, but it also bleached everything into oblivion, leaving naught but a white desert that kills you slowly)...
And for 100+ years since, till our arrival, Norvrandt had been plauged by an eternal daylight, and monsters known as Sin Eaters, which are essentially Light-demons...
To make matters worse, Sin Eaters hunt down EVERYTHING, not just people... and anything they kill becomes another Sin Eater...
Furthermore, there are especially powerful Sin Eaters, know as Lightwardens, that weaker ones tend to gather around like a queen-bee... It needs to be slain to free the region of Light... but it can't be killed, because doing so releases its Light, which immediately floods into the nearest living thing, and turns it into a Lightwarden, so it's as if it was never slain in the first place; and it might end up stronger, depending on what killed it...
I was actually kinda surprised that Kefka's Win was not on the list. But I will give you the Destruction of Eorzea is a good one.
I was just thinking, "It would be cool if Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was on this list, but I just like it too much." Literally #10.
Neo Arcadia's Destruction from Mega Man Zero 4 isn't on the list? That's a surprise
QG stated in a comment that the Elf Wars, and Neo Arcadia were way to obvious choices. Plus if a apocalypse-esque disaster from a Megaman game did get on the countdown it would've been the potential bad ending to the Eurasia Space Colony drop for obvious reasons.

I'm somewhat disappointed that the Elf Wars conflict from the Megaman Zero Series isn't even mentioned.
I mean, this conflict wiped out 60% of all humans and 90% of all Reploids from the world.

A personal pick of mine would have to go to the Great Calamity from Breath of the Wild. Sure you wake up, explore a bit, activate the Great Plateau Tower, and then see Calamity Ganon circling Hyrule Castle- wait what? Yeah, from that moment, you know something's off the second Ganon is seen not even after leaving the first area puts the idea in your mind that something's not right. And it eventually is hammered home when a Decayed Guardian comes back to life. And after playing a bit more and completing all 4 shrines on the Great Plateau, you then see King Rhoam's ghost who then reveals the truth: Ganon destroyed Hyrule a Century ago using the Guardians & Divine Beasts. Not only does this make it confirm your suspicion, it gives you a reason to take down Calamity Ganon, with or without the Divine Beasts & Master Sword.
Edit: anyone else excited for Age of Calamity?
My favorite pick has to be the endings of Drakengard, especially ending E, which leads into the post-apocalyptic Earth we experience in Nier and Nier Automata.
