Just in case you didn't know; Those slots on the film backs are designed to hold the end flap of the film's cardboard box

Yes I struggled filming myself last year when I was in Bangkok. I gave up as it was too much bother to set it all up and then do the shots on the mamiya. This year had a little bit more success with the new GoPro 7. Its small, light and wide enough to capture most of what I want and I can do it all handheld because the stabilization is amazing. I've also got my girlfriend to help out too which makes the world of difference :)

its expensive, adds a ton of weight to the already heavy setup and a light meter does the job (better) so I wouldn't classify it as an essential purchase :)
Hi, have you since used the cable release? I’m worried when you put it into mirror lock up mode and press the shutter, it sounds like you’ve already exposed the image and then when you press the cable release you’ve double exposed the image. Am I correct? Or is the image not exposed when you initially press the regular shutter button? :)
John Smith the first click of the button, the louder of the two, is just the mirror going up. The shutter is in your lens, and when in mirror up mode with the cable screwed in properly (which you can tell because you will see the little red line around the metal that protrudes from the part you screw the cable into on the lens), the actual shutter will remain closed until you trip the cable release. If you watch his lens in the video you can see that the lens opens and then closes a second after the mirror is put up. You won’t make a double exposure this way. However, in order to advance the film you do need to switch the lever that lets you choose mirror up mode. If you don’t, it will only cock the shutter again, without advancing the film, and in that case you will make a double exposure.

I bought this same strap but for the life of me I can't figure out how to attach it to the RB67. Any tips are appreciated!!

great video, but as this is soo heavy a TRIPOD is also a 'NO-Brainer" as an accessory, as well as a 3-way head, as you don't want to have a ball head!-one knob and the camera flops all over the shop.
one point, however, with a cable release, NOT too long, as with the K\L lenses, they have a 'B' button, which has an integral cable socket, and this closes the shutter after engauging Timer mode, and if too long the cable will flex, and not close the shutter!!!- absolutely fine for the body or Mirror up sockets, maybe not as good for the b socket.
another essential accessory is the light meter!, this camera has NONE, if there is no metered prism installed!, so you can get good exposures.
Ive been using my mamiya with a tiny travel ball head for all my travelling trips and its have worked fine.

Light meter - you can use a phone app for this if you dont want to buy a sekonic. For a lot of films I think the phone apps are good enough. You can post process film quite a lot so I never worry too much about overexposing. Just meter closer towards the shadow values in your scene and you'll be fine 99% of the time.
The most essential accessory is NOT a strap but a Mamiya L grip with a built in shutter release...also I shot with RZ’s & RBs for many years without a cable release but my shutter speeds were 1/30th second & faster & never had a problem with mirror vibration.
I would have to disagree. L grip is much more expensive than a strap and its not really helpful for how most will shoot the rz with a normal waist level viewfinder.
I agree, I can shoot down to 1/30th handheld and usually my shots are sharp but any slower than this you need a release cable
This Designed That Sorry but you are totally incorrect to say an L Grip is not useful when shooting the RZ with a waist level finder...I’ve shot with RZs & RBs for many years using both waist level & prism finders & the L grip vastly improves the handling/ergonomics of these big SLRs....a strap is next to useless compared to a dedicated grip...can’t believe you mentioned the cheaper cost of a strap as being a reason not to use a grip!

Any reason you opted for the more expensive 65mm Sekor Z lens over just getting an RB67 Sekor C 65mm lens and sticking it on the RZ body?
I'll be completely honest, I didn't even know you could fit RB lenses on the RZ. Does it just fit into the rz67 or do you need any connectors? From reading it looks like you set the aperture and shutter speed on the lens with the sekor c. The price difference is about £70-80 which is pretty annoying but these things hold their value so not too bothered about the cost, should be a lifetime investment hopefully.
@@ThisDesignedThat I believe they just fit right on, seeing as the RZ body came after the RB lenses. But yeah wouldn't worry too much, the RZ lens is probably better quality anyway!
i'll have to do some research, the Sekor C are certainly easier to find on ebay in the UK so it would be great if I could experiment with more focal lengths. I've had to get both of my sekor z lenses (65mm and 110mm) from Japan and both times been hit with expensive customs duty and tax. But the image quality is A+++ so it's not too bad :)
A strap is really needed. But the Opytech is crap. You can buy if you want to go to an orthopedic to get your neck treated after two days of using it. As he says, unfortunately there's no better strap. Best would be something like a double shoulder 'harness'.
thats a great idea John, I might have a go at making one. I have quite a few neck and back issues from various injuries in the past so this would be great for me. Stay tuned!
Go to Home Depot and get a Husky tool bag carry strap for less then $20.00 with plenty of padding.
I wish I could only shoot a roll in a day. There’s just something about the RZ67 that forces me to use all the backs I can carry.

Straps do nothing but get in the way of everything - handgrip is essential - so is light meter!!
A strap, a cable release and an extra back. Of course, but we all know that. Thought you would mention something interesting.
One thing I'd like to add I never leave home without: a lightmeter! I'm not a fan of using prisms on a waist level style camera. Any metering works better than guesstimating it for me.
Thanks for the tip, I didnt include the lightmeter because I wouldn't classify it as an accessory :). For me, a light meter is ESSENTIAL and completely agree, i would never leave home without my basic sekonic! These are 3 optional things that improve your experience using the camera.

don't get a long cable release they suck, most won't even fire my bronica. plus length isn't an issue, if you're not a complete fool and tug on it.
