    Loved your storytelling. Informative for us potential sailors of the ICW.

      Thank you very much! My 2 cents is “The ICW from Galveston through New Orleans or vice versa. Is a very difficult passage for a slow moving sailboat”

    Interesting video. Just for everyone watching, there is a marina with fuel at Cypremort Point in Vermillion Bay (Bayview Marina) in Louisiana. They have pumps where you swipe your credit card. You would exit the ICW and cut through Vermillion Bay to get there. Lots of crab traps in the bay, but cutting through the bay will shave off a mile or so.

    Omg John! What a trip! The alligator story through Louisiana totally freaked me out! Really scary stuff glad you made it OK! Look forward to seeing how she shapes up when you’re retrofitting her! Thanks for the videos!

    Good advice about passage-making through that area, John. What a harrowing journey! Sorry you had to learn those lessons the hard way. But thank you for the advice and for sharing with us what you endured to transport the boat back home.

    hope we treated you well in New Orleans recognized your passage all the way through been to Kemah and Galveston, safe journeys and God bless , the light on the vessel just like all vessels red on the port green on the starboard flashing amber in the middle of the bow of the tow lol use your radio on 16 or 19 to talk with the captain life will be easier for you both and you won't be rolled over by a 200 ton boat tow and become gator poop lol

      @finditfixitsailit9322  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha the problem is the red and green lights or so far apart they blend in with the red and green ICW Channel lights as well as the city lights in the background. I learned about the amber light the hard way.

    I'm in the process of binge-watching all of your videos and I just got to this one and I have to say, the storytelling in this one was awesome. I know you're learning video editing and recording videos, etc., and I had been thinking that it was unfortunate that more of the story of the journey from each video hadn't been captured in the video itself, but you're really great at retelling stories. Many people aren't. I'd love to see more videos where you recall interesting stories like you did in this video! I've been subscribed since I discovered your channel and I'm looking forward to future videos.

    Hi John, I just wanted to drop a comment and thank you for your videos. I'm a refitter myself and so it's nice to see that you also have the bug. It's fun. My first boat 30 odd years ago was a San Juan 24 named "Saffron". I loved that boat. I'm working on a 1982 Hunter 30 right now that I've brought home. Funny enough that it too has a rotted mast foot. Hunter in all of there wisdom used mild steel and not stainless steel in the cross piece and mast shoe. Having it at home under a roof helps a lot. One of my bucket list things to do is to sail the Bahamas so sometime soon I think I'll do that. Have you been to the Bahamas? One story I wanted to tell you in line with the night visit to the boat ramp and the fear that that can generate. I was in my teens when after a visit to a friends house I had to walk home through a dark ravine late on a moonless night. I never forgot it like I imagine you won't forget your night. Too bad about Wendys. lol...Hey keep up the good work a take care. Trevor from Campbell River BC Canada

    just curious if you are able to say how you averaged on fuel, was it around 3/4 gallon per hour on that boat? It seemed like it was going faster than that on the florida part of your videos so i was just curious.
