      Is that the inlet with all the shifting sand bars along the sides? I once was on a dive boat going out of an inlet, and the captain was real nervous. He'd wanted to cancel due to conditions, but we talked him into going. One of our dive club members cracked his head open on roof on the way back in the inlet.

    Things I have learned watching this awesome channel:
    1. This is a skill to know when owning a boat.
    2. Twin hull is everything.
    3. There are a lot of lucky people in the world. In particular, Miami.

    • @jacobh9487
      @jacobh9487 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think it's the twinness per say but having a shallower bottom which twins have. Longer speed boat types with shallow bottoms, if they don't go fast, seem to do ok. Not a boater at all. Just making a casual observation.

    • @UltraMagaFan
      @UltraMagaFan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your second reason is wrong for two reasons:
      1) Twin Hull is a brand of catamaran based in Bridgeport Connecticut. Freeman is a brand of catamaran based in Summerville South Carolina. They are called catamarans. Not twin hull boats. Twin Hull is a brand.
      2) Catamarans are not everything. All though they do ride smoother and go faster than monohull boats they do not make you a better boater. You still need experience to use them. They could have stuffed the bow of that Freeman or put it on the rocks just as easily as a monohull if they fucked up somehow.

    Norwegian here, the trick to reduce slamming like many of these boats do, or soften the slamming as much as possible, is to tilt the outboard engine a little up, so the force of the outboard engine will force the bow up. For what you want to do in this type of sea and always want to do, is hit the wave with the underside of the boat and not with the bow, only seagoing trawlers want to do that.
    by tilting up the engine up:
    - lifting the bow up from 8 knots and up.
    - the pressure from the engine will dampen the fall, when the bow is eventually coming down
    - The boat will go much lighter in the water and more surf on it. (good for straighte course speed)
    - all wave will be taken by the boats underside and not by the bow.
    by tilting the engine down:
    - the engine will force the hull down and keep it more connected with the water.
    - more control at speed.
    - will slam hard in waves, due to the engine will always trying to push the bow down.

      Trust the Norwegians those guys know how to sail, I lived in Norway for couple of years in Kristiansand, seems like everyone owned a boat, I had to take a speed boat across a bay at Movic every morning to get to work. Actually you want the bow down to reduce slamming. If you hit the wave with the underside of the boat you'll slam the hardest. If you catch the wave with the bow first(typically the deepest V part of the boat) the wave will be dispersed. It will be a wetter ride for sure and the lower your bow is the more you risk stuffing.

    6:43 is one of the best clips I've seen on this channel. Full send. The fenders suggest that it's just a display of alcohol-fuelled bravado rather than seamanship, but it worked anyway.

    6:50 cooler said "im out guys, good luck" as it rolled off the back end ... what a damn lunatic at those speeds. Isnt there a speed limit in this inlet ?

    • @Raxcsdecoon
      @Raxcsdecoon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speed is a big factor between bouncing between the waves in some cases smaller boats going high speed skimming the wave tops as a big factor between have a good run out or in. But no there's no speed limit probably until ur pass the bridge where it could be counted as a no wake but seeing how the waves are highly unlikely

      Speed limits would be pointless here. They can make a limit, but "minimum speed to maintain steerage" always takes precedent.

    First off; LOVE THE CHANNEL!
    It seems to me like the inboard-engined boats take the waves better than the ones with outboards. Sure, size matters, but in general. And as a sidenote; wear life-jackets!

    I grew up inHollywood Florida and as a teenager ran in and out of Haulover a lot in a 21 foot BostonWhaler with twin 70 horsepower Outboards on it and we usually carried 4 people all with full Scuba gear and a average of 20 to 22 filled Aluminum80 tanks it made for some fairly Adventurous days pushing that little boat to its limits but has made me a Lifetime believer inBostonWhaler boats
