  • If you’ve ever been flying and come across the DJI Cache Full Error notification while your shooting video, you’re not the only one. It’s a pretty common error and it often goes unnoticed because it pops up whenever you start filming in the air. It’s easy to see it and forget about it since it’s not affecting your flight at that time.
    In this video, we'll learn what the dji go 4 app cache error means, and how to get rid of it!

    Thanks for this video, very useful! I do have a question. If I don't set up the automatic saving in cache, how am I going to able to edit with the software on my phone? I do like the DJI GO 4 software, what is only available for phones, if I am correct. Now I would love to edit the better resolution pics and better quality videos on my computer, but so far I couldn't find any DJI GO 4 editing software for mac or pc. In that case I need to turn on the drone to be able to access the videos and download by clicking it each and one of them. Then I am able to use that high resolution videos to edit my final videos. I feel like this is a whole process and very time consuming. Any better idea how to do this?
    Also, if you allow to save in cache automatically, is it the same quality just like I download one by one to my phone?
    I understand that what I download straight from the SD card, that is the best quality. But I need to have it in my phone to able to edit it. So here is where I am looking for a solution.
    Wondering what you suggest. Thanks in advance!

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Toth, good question - and welcome to the time consuming world of cinematography! Haha. The cache on your phone saved from the DJI GO 4 app is very poor quality when you compare it to the quality of the full res footage recorded onto the SD card. I wouldn't use the cached files if you're going for high quality footage. Editing the footage on a PC/Mac is you best bet to retain the high quality. I use Premiere Pro to edit, but it is a paid program to use. If you're looking for a free option, check out DaVinci Resolve, or if youre on a mac, iMovie. Thanks for watching!

      @@keith-knittel Thank you for your respond. I am able to download the orignial photo or video on my phone. It seems like good quality, but still can't tell if that is same resolution or lower as you mention. I don't talk about the automatically downloaded cache. When you actually select one video and click on download the original. What do you think of that resolution? Thanks again!

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dindee5 Depending on how much space you have on your phone, you'll be able to download the files from your drone to your camera roll - as for it it's the same quality, I can't speak to that. I think that is going to depend on what the limitations are of your phone. If you're going to a quick Instagram post, pulling the footage from your phone and the drone is totally fine. If you're going for high quality, transfer the footage with a cable or card reader to your computer and edit there for no quality loss. Hope this helps.

    Getting cache video from your iPad
    (DJI Mavic 2 Zoom/Pro)
    For years I have struggled to get the cache files from my iPad.
    I use a mini iPad-3 as the monitor for my DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.
    I have looked all around on TH-cam and it seems most people just download the files directly from the drone into their computer and use a video editor.
    I have even purchased a device that has a USB-A on one end and a lightning plug on the other end.
    As I remember in the past when I would plug this device into my iPad and go to the editor and select the videos in the cache it would let me tag and send those videos to the external device that I had plugged in.
    That feature has disappeared. When I tag those files and tell it to save them it only makes a copy of the video files.
    I even with to Best Buy and purchased another device hoping it would work but it didn’t. I took it back.
    If we had a drone user’s group in Houston it would be great but we don’t.
    I know the pictures from the drone’s SD card is much clearer than the cache file but I don’t go to the trouble of running the video through an editor.
    This past week I decided to plug my iPad mini-3 directly into my window computer. The iPad ask if I wanted to make my files available for transfer.
    I also got a message from my Windows computer showing my iPad files.
    I was able to copy and paste all my cache files to my Windows computer.
    I understand that Apple’s connector cables are not bi-directional. They will let you send data one way. Who in the world came up with that idea?
    ALL their cables should be able to charge AND send data both ways.
    In the Windows world there is no problem.
    This has been long but I wanted to get this off my chest.
    Thanks for reading.
    Keep flying AND don’t do anything stupid. People are watching our hobby.

      Hey there, if you're going through all this trouble to use the low-resolution cache files, you can simplify your workflow and get higher resolution files by using the photos and video from the SD card. The cached files are not intended to be used and edited like the files on the SD card, or internal storage if you don't have an SD card, so they "workflow" with cached files won't be as simple, but that's by design. If your drone is on and still connected to your remote controller, you can download the full-res versions of your photos and videos if you'd like to share those quickly. Downloading these files to your device will save them to your camera roll and allow you to share them quickly.
      Like you mentioned, most people take their SD cards to the computer and use the files that way because it's the 'easiest' to get full resolution footage, but you also can copy your entire card to your computer very quickly instead of using the app and tapping through multiple pages and waiting for your drone to save photos/video to your phone.
      There is a cable that allows you to bi-directionally send information, the USB OTG "on the go" cable. The small cable that comes with your remote controller to your phone is actually a lightning to USB OTG cable, but it can fit in the micro usb cable port (it's square, but micro still fits). I share your frustrations with USB cables!
      Why do you not want to put the files onto your computer, or save them directly to your device? Why use the cached versions in the first place? Just curious, not criticizing you - just want to understand. Thanks for your awesome question, it helps me make better videos in the future! Fly safe!

      Ooh man, there may be a way to get the files off of the card (unless you used the card after deleting it, then there gone) but that process is above my pay grade. I don't use a video editor so when I'm flying I like to narrate what I am looking at.
    My device is an iPad Mini 3 128gig of RAM.
    I personally don't see much difference in the quality of the video from downloading the video from the drone and the cache file.
    Anyway that's is my .02 worth.

    • @keith-knittel
      @keith-knittel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Hansel, there is a big quality difference if you import the cached version vs the original file into your video editor. If you're just watching on your phone or sending to friends and don't need to edit - then you 100% do not have to edit! It's all personal preference and narrating your flights sounds fun. I'd still hold on to those original files if you can though for future use if you'd like to edit them in full quality. Thanks for your take and watching the video

    • @dhansel4835
      @dhansel4835 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keith-knittel OK great ! The video on where the cache file was stores was the key for me to get it off the iPad and onto a thumb drive with a lightning cable attached.
      I used to do video editing on my computer with a simple programs but as I am getting older and don't want to spend all that time doing it I do BOTH, download the files from the drone into my computer directly and NOW I go in and get the cache 'narrated' video files too.
      I have the fast SD card, the V-3 I believe and the U-10 category SD card. I have noticed when
      I plug my computer into the drone it comes up telling me there may be errors on the SD card.
      I have formatted the SD card with NTFS and did a scan to see if there were any errors. Each time it would come back and tell me no errors on the card.
      These are 2 new high speed 64 and 128 cards.
      I have formatted the cards after taking out the pictures/videos using the DJI Go-4 app.
      I would go out and fly and when I would bring the drone in and plug the USB cable up to my computer I would get that same error. Luckly I just told it to 'ignore' and download the files.
      I guess one day I will figure that one out.
      Thanks for reading.
