Thanks, Mike. I particularly appreciate the explanation of the joystick movements needed to achieve each type of shot. Most tutorials tell you what you should be shooting but forget to actually mention the controller moves to make it happen! Really great help as I learn my basic droning.
Showing the actual stick controller movements is key to making this a great video. It's more than simply telling us what are great movements. Show us how it is created -- step by step. How were you able to fly over a crowd of people?
Finally someone who tells you the shots you should do and then shows you how to do them. Subscribed immediately and rung the bell. Can't wait for more. Thanks
Excellent tutorial for people that are wondering how to execute these shots. After couple of years flying Fpv drones in acro, these movements were so natural for me when I got my first cinematic drone. Great job! Greets form Varna
Great tutorial! 👍Here are my 5 cents on #1: These tiny jitters, if you can recognize them, are because of the micro-sd-card. I'm guessing, SanDisk? Two solutions for that: 1.) Always format the card before flying. That said, SanDisk extreme cards (and cheaper ones) are prone to jittering, even after formatting. 2.) Try Lexar's pro line. They might be a little more expensive, but those are real beasts. I was a SanDisk guy for a long time, now I am only using Lexar Pro cards, especially on high rates and res. Very reliable.
I just want to point out to your viewers that in the US, you need to get a waiver from the FAA to fly over people or cars, and also you have to be careful about flying over buildings if you're in controlled airspace. If you're in Class G airspace, you can fly 400 ft over a building as long as you're within 400 ft of it horizontally. In the city where I live, the central business district has Class B down to the surface. I can use LAANC to fly there, but I can't go above 100 ft even next to a building unless I get a waiver.
In UK we cannot fly over crowds of people, or within 50Metres of people and buildings, without their permission. Personally I try to never fly over anyone, even if I am 50 metres above them. Things are very sensitive in UK, after Gatwick incident. Thanks for the video, I am still perfecting my manual orbit flying.
@@gvsukids Section 107.39 Operation over human beings. No person may operate a small unmanned aircraft over a human being unless that human being is: (a) Directly participating in the operation of the small unmanned aircraft; or (b) Located under a covered structure or inside a stationary vehicle that can provide reasonable protection from a falling small unmanned aircraft.
Justin P please take he time to learn the rules. www.faa.gov/uas/ as a private pilot instrument rated and a part 107 pilot. We need to respect the reasons these rules exist.
Nice video as always mate. Flying backwards through tight spaces is also an impressive move.... Frame it up to get right line & go fwd, then reverse it!
You beat me to the manual orbit tricks! Excellent job. One thing. On manual orbit if you also push slightly forward on the right stick it will prevent the natural want of the drone to slowly "spiral away" from the subject. :-)
Great video, thanks. My first drone is arriving this week, so I needed something like this. I really hate all the ads in a ten minute video though. I make videos too, but I refuse to put ads in the middle because I don't want my viewers to be annoyed with them.
2:18 seems illicit, but I'm thinking with the right camera angle, the drone is not actually flying over people, but behind them. Such as with a Mavic 2 zoom or Mavic 2 pro in the 4k cropped hq video mode. Sounds fine right?
If he's ***really*** NOT flying directly over people here he needs to make a video on how. Looks irresponsible to me ( but I would love to be proved wrong).
Very educational videos and explanation. Thank you! These impressive pictures at 3:00 are from Royal Hotel Sunny Beach Bulgaria, and at 8:27 - from The Forth Buna of Varna Beach Black Sea . A lot of beautiful shots can be made at Kaliakra Cape - 75 km North from Varna City.
These are some awesome techniques for operating a drone! The crane and the Orbit would be my choices moves, and when I get better then the fly through will be my choice.
Great video again, I do the orbit shot as much as I can, as I do fishing vessel videos. Just wondering if you can do active track on an object which is already moving.
Great video, Mike! I have a "my favourite drone shots" video on my to-do list, and magically yours came up on my suggested videos list...scary how TH-cam reads our minds!
Great video, thank you. I noticed you shooting over water a number of times. I seen videos where the drone falls into the water. When you fly over water do you do anything special with the drone sensors. I'm afraid to fly out over a body of water since I'm new to drone flying.
I'd love to master the manual orbit for a commercial shot I will be doing next week. It's a small truck with an additional mast and I want to rise on the front of the truck, circle 1 or 2 times around the rising mast then fly to the back and through the backdoor into the vehicle. Mavic 2 zoom.
Every move is simply stunning! I suppose we should always check the flying conditions on apps like UAV forecast or Weather by Tomorrow before attempting such moves.
Hey Mike, you have a vid about your settings,??. Watched your vid on the beach, and everything looks so amazing... you have these colors in after editing or you have special settings ? Thanks .!
I do use some of these moves that you mention. My question is have you tried them in ATTI MODE. The reason I'm asking is because movement is a lot smoother with GPS off. Please video new supporter to your Channel.
Yeah agree those are the most common and anyone who fly drones must master. Have you seen Marius Gabriel Popa with his extreme pullback shots? If not check him out he is a master with his Mavic Air and still running on first ever stock firmware version of the Mavic Air!
Great video! Some of these techniques I have already used, but some are new for me and now I really want to try them and practice more. For example the crane shot and the circle + reveal shot. Thank you for the inspiration! What do you think of the new drone video, that I have uploaded to my channel?
I agree with your shots but one thing I do that I’m going to encourage you to try is to reconfigure your finger placements. To get the most steady cinematic content possible, you should be holding the joysticks with your thumbs and pointer fingers and adjust the gimbal with your left middle finger. It’s awkward at first but when mastered it’s the best. Would you try to write your name using one finger to hold the pen? Same principles with joysticks apparently 🤷🏻♂️ either way, it worked for me so maybe it can work for you 😊
Hey Ben, thanks! For Windows - Adobe Premiere Pro (it's paid on a monthly basis), or if you're looking for a free alternative - Davinci Resolve. For Mac - Final Cut Pro X (it's paid, but you pay once and you own it forever), or also Davinci Resolve (it works on Mac and again - it's free) Best of luck! :)
Hey Todd! Thanks for the kind words. Which LUTS specifically do you mean? I have a paid one ($5) for Mavic 2 Pro and i have a free one for Osmo Pocket. Let me know so i can give you some directions.
Amazing shot! I want to be a drone pilot, but a little bit confiusing between mavic air and mavic pro, do you have any recomendation for me? Thanks before, cheers!
MR Yuwanda get yourself a good used air or spark and learn to fly and use the camera etc. Better to crash cheaper drine whe you learn. Plus if you master a less able drone you will then be really good with the pro. Learn and master all camera settings as well.
Great shooting advice but #2, the carne shot will get you tagged by the FAA if in the US because it shows the drone flying over people, you might want to mention that.
Hey new to the channel, but I see you unzipping a mavic air in the intro do you think it’s a great drone for beginners? I want to get into commercial real estate photography.
Hi Mike …. Excellent video man. Just one thing that kinda worried me but it’s more likely my comprehension. On my Mavic 2 Pro, someone on YTube advised that turning the controller knobs both in or both will be a fatal move. He said that it would shut down the drone’s motors and it would just crash. Maybe the Mavic Air has a different controller and different commands. It would be sad/funny if the beginner pilot ( as l am), were to think that the controllers work the same .
#1, #2, #3, #4 or #5? Which one do you like best? :)
Reveal and fly through shot👍🤘
4 and 5 for sure!
Pretty tough to choose, but I personally like #1. 👍👍
For me #5 is the most satisfying :P Watched it 3 times and I am still hungry ;)
1, 4 &5

loved the video. Thanks for the referral to another great artist. Going to practice my circles. I think its impactful and uses several controls
For #1 the quick reveal you want to push the right stick backwards not forward to get your shot. Everything else was spot on.

Or work smart - fly it forwards and then reverse in post ;) (when possible)
