    Russ, I rarely comment on videos, but wanted to tell you how much your videos help me. I am a new owner of the Mavic Pro and the way you explain things really works for me. I only get notifications from one TH-cam channel and it is 51 Drones. Now tell us how you came up with that name! Thank you from a loyal follower! Greg in Arizona.

      What an awesomely kind comment! Thank you! It's a bit of a long story, but it's just a very personal number for me. I may reveal it when I hit a milestone, like 25k or 51k subscribers!

      mo mo Man, Ireland may not have good weather but your scenery is awesome!! I'm subscribed to DroneGirl, who also lives in Ireland and her videos are awesome! You are very lucky to live there, I wouldn't move to Arizona if my life depended on it. It's just desert ;-)

      51 Drones Hi.
      I really enjoy watching 51 Drones videos.
      I have a Magic pro (well I did have one,it’s out for repair now after a small crash)
      I have it and really enjoy it and watching your videos.
      The crash I had was similar to the one you did the video on landing on the patio where you clipped the chain link fence.
      I was landing on a picnic table and clipped a small tree branch.Broke one propeller and messed up the Gimbal.After panicking and pushing all the wrong buttons.
      Live and learn.
      Keep up the good work👍
      Steve Smith

    Hi Russ! I have to admit that your personality is very pleasant also tends me to keep coming to watch your videos every time. I really appreciate for all info you shared specifically regarding Mavic Pro original. This really helps to learn gradually. Looking forward to the upcoming videos! This is Saeed from Palm Beach, FL.

    Russ, I'm a total beginner. Just travelled 1500 miles to do some Mavic Pro filming in Scotland and all for nothing due to flickering on trees etc. It's unusable mostly. I wish I'd discovered your videos before I went up there. So, a huge thanks for all of your effort, very much appreciated. Next time, I'll be prepared!
    Now, if only I could fix what I've already shot.

    I've been flying now for about a year as a hobbiest and have no intentions of ever taking it beyond that, Having said this, I do want to make videos that are smooth and as professional as I can, and this video was a tremendous help and teaching moment. All of Russ' videos are informative and useful, and make me want to fly more and more. Thank you so much....

    Hi Russ. I was having problems with getting my MAVIC 2 PRO to settle down. I fly RC Heli's and to have them less sensitive I usually set up Expo to Plus +30 - +35 to make them more docile so I set the MAVIC the same way..... to my surprise the Mavic was not docile at all, it was way more sensitive. That's when I realized the lower the number the more docile it will become, opposite of the Heli's. Then I saw your video and it confirmed what I was thinking so I set it up using some of your settings one of which was 80% Gain on the Yaw, also Brake and Yaw endpoints at 50 as I had no idea about these at all. Great videos, very helpful for new Quad pilots. Weather permitting I'll see how these new settings work out.

  • @peterbrstedjensen2183
    @peterbrstedjensen2183 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Very helpful video, thanks! - and keep 'em coming. A note on BREAK. At least for the M2P, you can leave it on 50 at all times. You do not have to adjust when flying sensors off if you learn your self to use the PAUSE button on controller for emergency break. No matter the BREAK settings the drone will always break maximum, when PRESS-AND-HOLD the PAUSE button. Try it out - it actually looks and sounds crazy if flying full throttle then hitting pause (and hold). The drone almost goes vertically, breaks with full throttle on all motors and It stops within very few meters depending on the speed, then hover. I imagine it's not very healthy for the axels and motors of the drone but it's nice to know, that it can do it if needed ;-)

    I get my Mavic Pro Platinum fly more combo tomorrow (2-29-2020), and I must say, I am so glad I watched your video. I figured that learning as much as I could about my Drone from You-tuber's who already have, or had one would help me understand how it works (flies & operates) would save me from pulling my hair out (ha-ha), which by the way, I still have. Thanks again for all these setting tips for getting better quality videos from the camera.

This video is exactly what I’ve been looking for, numbers are one thing but, your explanations are spot on for helping MP Pilots! As always, thanks for all these very helpful videos! I’ve saved all these videos into my drone playlist for further review and actual setup, thank you!

    This helps so much.. it’s good for people to give advise, but not knowing how to ‘tweet’ the settings and what this does will I’m sure help immensely.
    But I’d have to travel a long way to get a fantastic view like that.

    Super video for anyone beginner or not! 1 OF THE BETTER video, no doubt about it! I just got my drone back on Saturday back from Dji! It took me a while to update the firmware for the front and bottom sensors but I finally figured it out late last night, that you have to point your drone at your monitor and aim at these checkerboard-like boxes to calibrate your front and bottom sensors.. You and #FlytPath really have some good videos on how to get the best footage with your MP or MP2

    Hi Russ - Great video (Stop Getting Terrible Footage)! I realize that that your video was posted nearly 3 years ago, so I'm expecting that the differences between the current version of the DJI Go 4 app and the one in your video have been changed by Mavic. I recently purchased a Mavic 2 Pro and really like it, but I realize I'm barely a beginner. As I was watching your video, I was following along with my DJI Go 4 app and when you got to the gimbal settings, my app does not have the Gimbal Pitch Smoothness setting available. Are you aware if Mavic has eliminated that feature? Thanks!

  • @burchmd
    @burchmd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for these settings. I noticed that when I do an update these settings are sometimes changed back to the standard factory settings. I don't fly a lot and I traveled from Texas to Arkansas a few weeks ago and after a rough trip up the side of a mountain, rock crawler style in my son's 4 wheel drive truck, I took my Mavic out to get some scenery shots. It was as jerky as hell, worse than I ever shot before. I didn't check the settings before flying. Also in the sun, even with a good screen protector on my iPad Mini4, I could not see that all my footage was a bit over exposed. I need to do another update and afterwards I'm going to give these settings a try and try to get more flying time in. It's been well over 100 degrees here every day so going out and standing in the sun is no fun. Thanks again for sharing these.

  • @GolfTesla
    @GolfTesla 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks - that is useful and will hopefully improve the done shots that I use for my "Golf & Tesla" channel. Note: the factory settings are not entirely bad, but do need very subtle and smooth fingers - and that is not always that easy to control. So your settings make things a bit easier..

    I'm definitely going to try your settings and one thing that really helped me, even though it didn't seem like a big deal, was doing the Ken Heron "pinch method" on the sticks rather than using my thumbs when specifically filming. It really helped me to get the smaller movements so much more smooth.

    1. Enjoying the journey watching you grow on TH-cam. 2. Many have 'legacy' drones' and want to learn from others that constantly want to learn more... the tweeks if you will. My first drone is an Inspire 1v2. Second the Mavic Pro. Then some micro's. I really went backwards! LOL 3. @iKopta called me out for not posting anything yet. You guys set a high bar. I can fly jets, and ride Harley's, but... editing video? New standard. 4. High five. Keep sharing on the Mavic Pro! Please.

    So cool to run into a North Dakotan in the world! Born and raised in Fargo. Thanks for the video!

    The one thing, as a totally new Mavic Pro owner, that I had problems figuring out, was where to click in order to get into the camera and gimbal settings in the first place. But after watching this video twice, plus a bit of trial and error, I finally found it. The weird button below the video start / stop button.
    How about night flying? I've tried to capture Fireworks (SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas) and last night I tried to capture cloud to cloud lightning on video. I was many miles from the actual storms, waited until the storms had gone thru my area.

      Night flying is a difficult one to get right. I still do not have it down to where I can get footage that looks great. I think it's difficult with the Mavic Pro. However, the Mavic 2 will have a 1" sensor, which will give us so much more range at night!

    I am not gonna dispute your numbers, i want to add to a nice smooth pan, Instead of pinching or thumbing the ball of the stick to pan, lower your thumb beneath the ball of the stick and rest it onto the remote where you can just feel the curve of the stick on your thumb and apply pressure in the direction you are panning and it will hold that constant steady rotation till you remove the pressure on the stick. It took me a while to try that but if i pan today it is the only way i will do it.

    I love this style of tutorial. Can anyone advise whether or not these settings recommendations are blanket applicable to the Mavic 2 Pro?

    Thanks Russ, for a really clear and well presented tutorial. Presumably the flight dynamics vary a bit between the Mavic Pro and the Mavic Air - and in my case the Platinum? So I’ll try with the settings you suggest in your video and see what tweaks work best for my particular platform.

      Seafox0011 Yes, different but not a whole lot!

    Good stuff! I've used the same settings on my Mavic Pro and they definitely improve the footage quality. Fantastic explanation of each setting also. By far the best video tutorial on the topic I've seen and I've already viewed the other guys before.

    I still want an option to reverse the pitch wheel for the gimbal so it follows the convention! I find it really difficult when climbing and panning down at the same time!
