    Some of you may try to argue that the SB130 isn’t an all-mountain bike. At first glance, you would be right. It has 130mm of rear travel and a 150mm fork. I’m here to tell you why you’re wrong, though. The SB130 is one of those category-bending, hard-to-put-in-a-box bikes. It punches above its weight class in terms of capability without sacrificing that quick and nimble trail bike feel. See how it stacks up with other bikes in the all-mountain category like the Ibis Ripmo, Santa Cruz Hightower, and Transition Sentinel.

    Spot on review. I’ve had a 130 that I converted to LR pretty quickly. It comes alive at speed and is pretty playful. One thing to note is that I will get caught up in the chunk and doesn’t do well at high speed chunder in my experience. But that’s what enduro bikes are for.

    I’ve had one in LR trim for a couple months now and it rips! A FAST, energetic, responsive all mountain bike. I got it to fulfill my one-bike needs and it does so for my southern Oregon trails admirably. I agree with everything in this video.

    this is my 2nd comment, i own a regular SB130 (thanks to you guys, please continue to do these awesome reviews :) for a month and a half now, sooooo good !
    never had a bike that fit me. i am 6'4 and 238.1lb (but who's counting:).
    for me is not so demanding on the turns, but i do charge or maybe have enough weight for the front and back :). i am so centered on the SB130 so on drops (not doing BIG ones) i do not need to make a huge effort to get the front up a little ... it is just so amazing.
    The funny thing when i timed 38km rout (230m climbing, fast rout) it was exactly the same speed and the same average HR as my Ripley V3(same outside temperatures) .
    on the technical stuff the SB130 just wants to help you instead of "stuck" on the rocks like i felt on the Ripley V3.
    Do not get me wrong, loved the Ripley but when started to ride harder/gnarly the bike just is not enough and hung up on stuff even on XC routs when you have some rocks specially on the climbs.
    last bike the Ripley V3 (with 9cm stem since it was too short), the V4 is worse (with 5cm stem), bought the Ripley V4 and left it in the bike shop, after waiting 6 month for the bike.
    the numbers are increased but the steep angle just "eat" some of that so ... no good for tall guys.
    it is so important to try the bike and see that it is OK for you and your current style of riding.

    I have this bike (2020 model 130 converted to Lunch Ride). Was almost considering selling it as I bought a Yeti SB-165 and was blown away at it's capability. Last ditch effort to take away the 130's harshness was I put on a Fox DP-x2 coil shock. Now completely different bike that is now the ultimate trail/enduro slayer. This shock changed the handling and made this bike a absolute fun bike to ride. A lot of places where I would shy away from taking the 130 over is now a no brainer. Try a DP-X2 shock on this bike and see run the challenge again, it will be the top pick hands down!

    I've been riding Yeti SB130LR for almost 2 years, and all I can say - this is the only bike which I really like. For heavy rider like me this is probably the best bike with minimal pedal bob with fully open shock... it can get a bit overwhelmed on really rocky sections, but it is manageable and fun :)

    I've had two of these.. one in 2019 with a fox dpx2 and fit 4 fox 36.. Got rid of it pretty quick.. It was just too harsh and just not what I was looking for at my age and for my local trails. Tried the bike again in 2021 with a RockShox super deluxe ultimate and a RS Lyrik... totally different bike. Plush, fast, climbs like a goat.. couldn't ask for more. It amazes me what a change in suspension can do..

    Great job again, and thanks for getting this one out quickly. I think 130-140 is the sweet spot for travel for most people. For me, I spend more time going up than down so climbing ability and efficiently is important. Here in North Phoenix/Scottsdale the rocky uphill's are brutal.

    I have an SB130 and it’s an amazing bike. I wish this bike had come out a decade ago when I was younger, in better shape, no kids or wife, etc… back when I was way more reckless. The thing that I get from it is that it is extremely forgiving and makes you feel like you can do more than what is in your comfort zone. With that said there are some negatives. First, if your a short, out of shape guy like myself you need practice cornering with it. It is so long and the fork is so raked out that bunny hops and quick cutbacks take maneuvering your whole body over the bike to get it to do what you want. Next, this bike is deceptively fast in a straight line. My last bike was an old Santa Cruz Nomad which was a good decenter but this one is like an anvil being dropped from a tower. You can get up to speed really quick so be prepared. Also, the bike performed very good on rough terrain but that little shock in the middle gets dirty really quick so make sure you keep it somewhat clean. Last, the price is pretty insane so make sure you really like it because they are hard to find south of $5k.

    As a new owner of one of these I can say the review is spot on. Good for somebody who rides a lot of XC trails in the flat lands but occasionally drives up to the mountains to hit the fast and chunky stuff. Coming from a generations one Santa Cruz 5010, this suspension feels a bit more efficient when it comes to pedaling (and the 5010 was was not bad at all).

    I was torn between the SB130 and the Ripmo v1 and ended up with the Ripmo. Not only did it fit better, but I definitely noticed that it climbed better and more responsive input. I also liked the fact the Ripmo was cheaper and uses threaded BB; I'm tired of Pressfit, and I didn't want to deal with additional maintenance on the Infinity Switch, and it's slightly heavier. Both bikes are amazing and you can't go wrong with either.

    First off, I love your reviews! So good! one thing I would love to see is talk real quick on the shock and fork that your testing relative to the dampeners . so much of bike performance is the fork and shock setup . the Grip 2 and float X2 can totally change the feel of the bike just on setup alone. Maybe just mention that and the setup you tested at. but just my opinion watching your tests , as that one thing that I always wonder about. thank you!

      @bikersedge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for the kind words. I do my best to keep these as brief as possible and thats why I don't go into all those little details. Suspension setup is huge, but varies widely based on weight, height, terrain, body position, rider preference... There are so many factors that my setup isn't going to be very relevant to many people. I can put them in a chart in the written reviews though.

    I have a 2020 Yeti SB130 T2 for 13 months now and absolutely love it. Riding it on a blend of east coast rocky, rooty mountainous technical trails and XC trails. It has made me a much better and more confident rider on the technical trails. I am shocked at how much fun and fast it is on the flowy XC trails. 13 months in and I have only had the gears tweaked at 7 months and a new rear tire at 12 months. My sole complaint is that on the downtube bend before the bottom bracket, gets beat up pretty good cresting over rocks and logs. I really question the use of a ribbed rubber protector there. The rubber ribs have a grabbing aspect to them, whereas a carbon like shield would enhance the sliding effect over the obstacle. I recently removed the original ribbed rubber protector since it was chewed up pretty good at the bend and added a carbon RockGardz shield. I'm not sure if the RockGardz shield is designed to go over the original shield or not. The original rubber shield would act as a insulating buffer if it were still in place. Any comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The long stem for one. Seat tube angles come into play as well. It’s really tough to compare seat tube angles across bikes/brands too. There isn’t a standard for measuring them. Stack is going to come into play as well. Honestly the size guides are a good place to start rather than relying on any one frame measurement. All the interplay between numbers gets complex quickly. Nothing beats getting on the bike in person though.

Was always under the impression that stack & reach puts you in the same position based upon your coordinates, if you have a dialed in fit?

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That lower stack combined with a longer reach is going to pull your upper body forward more. You can alter that a bit with spacers, but eventually you're going to run out of room on the steerer tube. Also stack and reach are measured to the center of the head tube, not where the handlebars sit. That means stem, bars, spacers, and head tube angle will all change the fit.
      I tend to not swap out cockpit parts on these bikes (most of them are our demos that I can only take for a day or two), but the difference in handlebars could have had an impact on the difference in size. Seat tube angle is going to be the biggest factor probably. And, like I said, there's no standard way of measuring them, so comparing across brands gets tricky.

    first i bought the SB 130 a lot thanks to your reviews :)
    sharing .... i own a RIPLEY V3 but was disappointed in the techy stuff (not enough reach, TT and was kicking my ass on the way down in the gnarly stuff)
    order a RIPLEY V4 (thought that the numbers are right now) waited for 6 month and left them in the store (too small for my 6'4").
    since every body was complaining how the SB130 is too big (and 9999 trillion hours over the net :)) so i bought it
    did only one ride so far (started to rain) but ... when i let my self GO the bikes just like saying "I'm watching your back... just go faster"
    so... what do you think, will i suffer too much in an EPIC stage race ?

      Glad our videos could help!
      The 130 wouldn't be my top pick for an endurance event. It's efficient enough and climbs well enough, but it's on the heavy side. Over the course of a long day you'll feel that. If you're just looking to finish, you'll do just fine on the 130. if you're looking to compete, I'd suggest a more appropriate bike for the application.

    Thank you for the review! I have been enjoying riding my ARC and I love the bike! basically taught me how to properly ride a mountain bike and now I think I deserve to ride a full suspension trail bike which is sB130. Is it ok to run that bike with 130m travel fork? I like a balance travel bike so it's not super slack so it's a bit easier to climb and lighter as well. thank you!

    • @bikersedge
      @bikersedge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No. You’re going to alter the geometry too much. The BB height is going to get dangerously low. Manufacturers put a lot of thought and effort into the design. They’ve specced it with the fork that fits the bike’s intentions. I’d personally leave it that way.
      If you want a balanced/not slack bike buy a balanced/not slack bike. No sense in trying to turn an sb130 into something it’s not.
