    The perfect trail bike?
    We test that out at Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland, CA
    I compare this bike primarily to the Ibis Ripmo and Santa Cruz Megatower.
    A big thank you to Rhythm Bikes for the test ride!

    Your thoughts on the chainstay are 100% accurate. Currently on a Banshee prime with 445mm chainstays (Can be adjusted to 448mm in the low setting) and it feels perfect, especially on an XL.Your content is great, always learn a lot. Also proves you don't need 5k in camera equipment to make quality videos.

    Dude! First off,showing those clips of you riding was a mike drop. No qualification of your skills needed after that. The commentary was on point. Great freaking review. Question, I am a weekend warrior no skills at all but love to ride. How difficult is the 130 to ride. So many reviews say front wheel will push if not weighted and this bike is for aggressive riders. Would you say that is true? I want a sb130 but maybe its not for me.

    I think most people are looking for an XC bike with a little more travel. If you ride places with lifts you know more travel is going to feel better, but for a bike that is going to be doing just as much climbing as descending the "short" travel feels great. I bet a 130/130 bike feels better than most bikes on most trails.

    Nice review and I fully agree about longer chainatays as they add stability. I ride a switchblade which is similar in travel and capability to this bike with shorter reach which I prefer for better balance. Interesting that fast riders like you prefer older school Geo. Sam Hill kills it on a very moderate Geo nukeproof. Also I ride jmp regularly on my 2015 giant trance and it's plenty of bike for there.

    Think the preference for long rear/moderate reach comes from having longer legs/arms, puts your weight further back relative to the pedals. I'm 6'8 w/ a 7ft wingspan and hate the short chainstay/long reach thing. demoed the megatower and liked it better than most, but thought a 455-465 cs would be better. have a custom HT with a 490mm reach, 670mm stack and 455mm CS and its spot on for me. Find it more confident and capable than my XXL hightower because it handles better.

    • @alexthemtbr
      @alexthemtbr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nick Black you need a pole machine or geometron to get a bike that fits you 😂
      And idk. I actually like longer stays to keep some weight on the front wheel. The short rear end forces all your Wright onto the rear wheel

    i definitely agree on people over biking and i am caught up in that as well, but not horribly. i had a 2012 Nomad (160/160 26er) and almost just as a habit went Nomad 4 which i then thought about and decided against. i probably should be on a 5010 , but have shit line choice and wanted a bit more bike park friendly so i opted for the Bronson v3.. but when buying a fork i found the best deal on a 2018 fox factory in a 170. it hasn't been a problem on my local trails yet, but it is way to much fork and i dont even think i will be bike parking it at all this year. i am currently considering down stroking to 150 to see if that changes it up at all as i think 150/150 will be plenty. ramble over

    Hey just curious about your take on the proportions, I too don't understand the hype about short chainstays, but most of bikes doing size specific rear ends have 10/20mm longer rear compare to 70-100mm longer front, would you want them to be truly proportional? Like 470/460 f/r.

    • @alexthemtbr
      @alexthemtbr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My dream ratio, obviously stack effects reach. Which someday I will take more into account....
      Would be 475/455, 470/450
      Around 20mn shorter chainstay than reach. But obviously at the size grows. The ratio changes percentage wise.
      But I feel like between 15-30mm shorter than the reach and you have a pretty decent handling bike.
      Most size mediums are perfectly proportioned! And actually the size small riders probably feel like they are driving a bus. Because their reach is typically shorter than their chainstay

      I would say you're right, Sony. I bought the 150 for downivile and for when I wanted to do long decents. The 150 is great to have if you have a few bikes, but it's definitely Overkill for a lot. Really a fun, fast, and forgiving, but a bear of a bike on long rides. I kind of wish I bought the 130 LR because I know I'd ride it waaaay more than the 150 if given the option.

    • @alexthemtbr
      @alexthemtbr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scuba Steve the 130 is probably perfect for downieville! I think som people always assume more is better. I can’t think of one section at downieville where the sb150 would top the 130. And the fastest racers out there are running bikes equivalent to the sb100.
      This is kind of why I say in the video, I really encourage people to try bikes like this out. Travel isn’t the only number that matters and people believe that they need/want as much as possible. In reality, I would say 99% of people would have a more fun, faster, and fulfilling ride on the sb130

      @@alexthemtbr I hear you there that most people over-bike. My go-to bike is a custom Chromag Rootdown that I ride more often than the 150. The 130 is definitely the bike to get. If you want more than get the LR.
      SIde Note: Best way for me to describe the 150 is a point and shoot Cadilac. Big and sluggish when not at speed. I am also 6'5" and 225lbs so the extra cush is nice when mashing a little softer set-up, but definitely not needed.
