I chose Desmond because they're the closest to France, they can deal with Munster who has the only fort in Ireland right away, and they can quickly get to Leinster who typically allies England. Though I will say, Offaly and Kildare do have slightly better ideas than Desmond's. I like doing the book keeping one to help me combat loans because I use them so much in the early game. I suppose the Burgher's Financial Demand is nice because of the 10% tax and naval maintanence and construction cost is nice.

Is there any point in doing the old "complete missions, form Scotland, do their missions, form GB" ?
I'm sure there are some good permanent modifiers otherwise I think it's just better to play Ireland and if you decide to from GB

I have all the dlc but I recommend getting the subscription service which gives you all the dlc instead of having to buy $100+ worth of dlc
