i agree with you @stephenkerr2646 reason they don't look like pancakes also costly you can go into foodplus a poland store in your area and set of pancakes with meat in them and very tasty also as alots of different fillings in the pancakes and price we can afford.
They're not the original Findus ones though! 😆 The fact that the crispy pancake-style is still going after about 60-odd years is quite something. Another great one, Gaz 👍🏻👍🏻
Never had crispy pancakes. My Mum would never buy stuff like that. She was a ‘from scratch’ woman. Think they were Findus back in the day? Great review G… I knew just from looking at the filling which one I’d prefer. ☺️
This brings back some memories. When the Findus ones first came out, we told mum we liked them & so she got them at least twice a week. There was only cheese/onion & minced beef back then & we got sick of them, but didn't wanna say so. When they brought out a curry one, we thought it was really exotic....😂
Curry were my favourites also. If your are going to try them again I can vouch for the Iceland own being closer in taste to the original Findus. Granted not the healthiest vitamin packed foods we should be eating 😅😅 but deffo a nice through back to the 80’s
On a price comparison you can have 2 Iceland ones for 1 birds eye one and therefore get more percentage of beef/onion. You would want a full box of either mind as they are only small. They are maybe a freezer filler if your stuck for what to have or again if on a budget its another string to the bow. The Iceland did look a little more appealing.
I love crispy pancakes. It's something I've not had in years , isn't it funny how you forget about certain foods further down the line of life ? Good vid as usual , and top notch analysis 😊
Thank you Gaz great review 👍 I'll give them a go 😀 Back in the day, it was Findus who made the crispy pancakes, chicken curry ones 🤤😋 beef-n-onion, and chicken-n-ham, my kids loved them, but they stopped making them😔 Have a lovely day Gaz❤
Thanks Gareth. I'll give the Iceland one's a try. Birds Eye one's looked horrible inside, light coloured? For a quid they're a bargain. Especially if money is tight and you have a few kids. One each of them with some beans and bread. Just looked and iceland do four flavours of them. These, cheese, cheese and ham and cheese and mushroom, so something for everyone!
Wow not had funis pancakes in years. I lived off them as a child. Just by looking at the filling i knew the icelands ones would be much better. With the costs going up so much with everything, people are now shopping more wisely. Great vlog as usual.
Crispy pancakes where my favourite as a child despite the temperature inside being similar to lava. They disappeared for years and when they where reintroduced I was so disappointed as they tasted hideous with tasteless meat gloop inside. Tried the Iceland ones a few weeks ago. Rather bland and little meat but for £1 for four, pretty decent value.
Used to love a Crispy Pancake back in the day, risking the skin in the roof of your mouth with the molten filling. Chicken and mushroom was my favourite. Love them in a sandwich; crap white sliced with lots of butter and a couple of crispy pancakes wedged in. Delicious! The filling in the branded version looked more like chicken curry than minced beef!
Gareth you have taken me back in time with these, 80s food they were a bit of a luxury back in the day,il def be trying them I think Iceland is trying thank you for the review ❤
Hi mate, I very much enjoy your reviews, I've had 2 major strokes so I only cook in microwave or air fryer & your air fryer reviews are good. I lived in Japan for 16 years and I love Japanese food. Keep up the good work
With the pound range you are going to get some products which will be hit and miss which is expected but overall you have got to say well done to Iceland for showing what can be done and buying a branded item doesn't mean much if someone can do a similar product cheaper and just as good
I had the Birds Eye ones a while back, they seemed to completly lack any seasoning and yes they were soggy, I chucked them in the bin. I will give Iceland's a whirl.
Hi BFG, I've done the maths on the beef content of the crispy pancakes, and you may be surprised that the birds eye ones have 60 percent more beef content than the other ones, hope this helps, the numbers can be misleading, your doing a great job, love the chanel
Used to live the findus pancakes also back in the day "success on a plate for you"😂😂😄 great memories, will have to try both of these, cheers Gareth another belting review, keep safe and well always.
I used to love findus pancakes in the 80s when I was younger and loved them on sandwiches, weird I know. Bought them a few years ago during a nostalgia trip and was left with one question, where's the Filling?, all they were was pancakes with gravy filling.
Hi Gareth, Thanks for sharing another really great review 👍the Iceland ones did look much better totally agree with you all in the name the same if you buy clothes or trainers all in the name ✨🙂
Brings back memories when i was a kid, loved them back in day but had the birdseye a few years ago and were rubbish, so think ill give the iceland ones ago to see if better. Especially as a easy filler for a quid.
Used to love those things ... May have to take a trip to Iceland - To be honest .. the Birdseye filling looked more like chicken swill .. lmao ... Thanks for another great video :D
Used to love the Birds eye ones Gareth but over the years the filling has become very tasteless so not had them for a long time. I will be asking my daughter to.popito Iceland to get me a couple of boxes for the freezer. Thankyou for your candid review, will let you know my thoughts on them when I get some at the weekend. Love your honest opinion you don't tell us what some might wish to hear you say it as it is, a man after my own heart. Keep up the good work & thankyou❤ Sarah Wigan
It all depends on the flavour and many own brand products are done in the same factory as the branded product. I haven't bought a branded product for over 30 years at first they were not as good as the branded products but just adding a bit more salt, sugar or margarine or tomato purée could get the non branded product tasting as good, if not better, than the branded product. I have made my own crispy pancakes before and they tasted a lot better than the shop bought ones
I stopped shopping in Iceland when there price hike was at its worst but a few of your reviews got me back in there .Got to say there own range is suprisingly very good and a bargain for the money I have these pancakes favourite being the cheese and mushroom love there pound range meals for a quick snack dinnertime .
Wow, this takes me back. Use to have these once a week when i was a kid. A quick an ease meal with peas and mash (or chips). And bang brown sauce on top 😋 Another top review 👍
I had to do a comparison the other day - Sainsburys v Aldi Orange High Juice. I usually get Sainsburys but was horried it just went up to £2.15 a bottle and saw Aldi's was 99p so had to try it but didn't find it as nice sadly. So sticking with the more expensive one 😢
I used to love the many tasty varieties of Findus Crispy Pancakes as a kid but I tried these Birdseye beef & onion and the cheese ones a while ago and they both tasted the same - of absolutely nothing! They've got less salt and additives but they were rubbish. Bring back the 1970's chemicals⚗🧪☠
Glad your reviewed these gareth as I thought the icelands ones were better than birdseye 👏👍 Try the cheese ham and cheese mushuroom and four cheese flavours there all very nice and crispy unlike birdseye that are soggy😂❤
My favourite pancakes were chicken curry and cheese ones, used to love them with chips as well. Maybe promote wonky veg too,it tastes the same as normal veg xx
*Fantastic comparison video…👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻* I’m not a brand snob,I just like nice food….if it’s nice, that’s what I will buy, whether cheap or expensive but one things for sure- I won’t buy something I don’t like, based on price…my appetite and stomach will not allow it.
.....you are fast bringing to light, just how much Supermarkets are potentially playing with the customer. I would not be surprised, if this place in Ireland is a producer of many things and provides the big names.😎🍻
Without a doubt!!! many moons ago worked at palethopes and made pie's for adsa and sainbury's .... steak pie's different crimp around the pie and sainbury's had a bit more steak/beef with different seasoning.. Also small pie's sainbury's!!!! get this one Minced steak and onion--------Asda Minced beef and onion.
I tried one of each of the £1 range of crispy pancakes. The beef and onion one was lovely, so was the four cheese and the cheese and mushroom. I found the cheese and ham one a bit lacking in flavour, but for a £1 meal brilliant value.
Named brands are out to shaft us! Smaller portions too sometimes it's worth buying cheap for bit more value for money, times are difficult at the moment and I've noticed prices starting to fall slowly, 👏great comparison 👍
I thought Iceland had lost their way a little & they were getting a little expensive, but I nipped in there yesterday after some of your recommendations & was really surprised to find they’re back on track not just on the cheapest “value” brands but on a lot of others too & I found the reduced bin dippers freezer & made a killing there 👊
i wouldn't mind betting it is all made in the same factory just with different ingredients and cheaper looking packaging used to love these when growing up Great video Gareth keep up the great work
I love the way you ate half of the pancake, put it down, and then started on the other half as though that's going to taste any different! 🤣 Good on ya mate...spot on!
great video have to agree with you the filling on the birds eye ones just looked wrong, never seen gravy that light before in something that is beef and onion. just weird
totally agree mate, if you made one of those birds eye ones, cut it open and asked someone what the filling was, the answer would be, i dunno or chicken, mince is NEVER that colour, nevermind the consistency of the filling - i got a pack of them a couple of weeks ago and its brown beef tasting gravy as a filling, didnt look right, or even taste really like beef at all
Used to eat these regular as. a kid, mum was a single parent and they would be a cheap tea for me, especially as a teenager, when she would be working when I got home, would have something like these, or a frozen pie, a few baked beans, and some smash, not sure if me now as a 20 year old would eat them, but Ideal,if you have nippers
I've now tried the Iceland (not Birds Eye) Crispy Minced Beef and Onion Pancakes and they are really tasty. Next week I'll try the cheese and ham ones. Unfortunately, the website says all four varieties of the crispy pancakes are out of stock. Probably a lot of people have been going back to buy more. In the £1 cabinet there are also cheese and tomato or cheese and pepperoni subs, which you could review.
They Look nice I think the Birdseye brand is the best they have been around a long time I had them as a kid IAM in my 60s good video as usual nice with beans and chips
I did reply to this the other day, saying I wasn’t keen on them back in the day. However I bought the mince & the mushroom & cheese ones yesterday, yep they make great snacks, bought the £1 fish you recommended a short while back, I’m fussy with my fish so I’ll let you know how they went down.
Probably produced in the same factory. Slightly different recipes. Nearly all baked beaned are made by one firm (different sauces). Thanks for video-enjoyed watching.
I used to cook findus crispy pancakes for my kids, they’re 43 and 46 years old now. ( the kids that is ) I used to hope that they’re leave some because like a lot of parents when things were tight I wouldn’t cook any tea for myself, I always ate what the kids left. Crispy pancakes were my favourite, followed by fish fingers on butties then beefburgers😊incidentally I remember that you fried them in those days.
Hi Gareth, I do like the Birdseye pancakes but now I will give Iceland pancakes ago and for a £1 got to try them , thanks for the pancakes side by side. I had that Iceland Chips and curry for my tea tonight had it with 3 sausages ( Edwards of Conwy , Nice ) to be honest I did enjoy the chips and curry I thought a £1 well spent thanks for giving them a go, I will buy it again, catch you soon Take care😋🤤👍
Use to love these as a kid in the early 80s they're just not the same since they brought these back will try the iceland ones they looked really nice thanks for the video plus I bought the pepperami pizzas and will be trying those soon
Yeah they used to be findus crispy pancakes, lovely food, when growing up, can you remember goblin pudding's mince and onion, you had to boil them for 20 mins, I can still taste them now lovely
i think people are now waking up to how much the named brands have been ripping them off for years.great review, cheers
You're welcome 😊
i agree with you @stephenkerr2646 reason they don't look like pancakes also costly you can go into foodplus a poland store in your area and set of pancakes with meat in them and very tasty also as alots of different fillings in the pancakes and price we can afford.
@RedHeadNINTY9T9 Findus used to make them i believe.
All that advertising isn’t free.
I know what you’re thinking about the Birds Eye filling. Before you said I thought the same
Possibly one of the most important videos on TH-cam currently.
They're not the original Findus ones though! 😆 The fact that the crispy pancake-style is still going after about 60-odd years is quite something. Another great one, Gaz 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers mate
You won't see them anymore cause of the Horsemeat. I think Birdseye and Findus are owned by same company.
@@iamphoenix6310Won't see what anymore?
i didnt even know they were still making them
@@iamphoenix6310 Birds Eye and Findus are both owned by the Iglo Group, which is why the pancakes could change brands from Findus to Birds Eye.
Omg, 80s food throwback, I used to love these, the cheese ones were amazingly………………….bad but oh so good 😂❤❤❤❤
Totally agree.
@@mummyd1990No way, my mum used to feed those cheesy ones to us every week, I absolutely hated them.

id not try the birds eye ones unless you are looking to see just how bad they are, even the reviews on the tesco site for them are comical
Thank you Gaz great review 👍
I'll give them a go 😀 Back in the day, it was Findus who made the crispy pancakes, chicken curry ones 🤤😋 beef-n-onion, and chicken-n-ham, my kids loved them, but they stopped making them😔
Have a lovely day Gaz❤
You to thank you kindly
Birds Eye have took over Findus now👍
Reminds me of my days as a kid, loved these, quick snack then run out to play in my slippers ❤😂
Same here, Findus crispy pancakes were considered a real treat when I was small in the 70’s, probably a better quality back then though, more meaty 😀
Thanks Gareth. I'll give the Iceland one's a try. Birds Eye one's looked horrible inside, light coloured? For a quid they're a bargain. Especially if money is tight and you have a few kids. Yay, i've really missed your comparison videos! I don't think i ever had this flavour when i was young, it was always cheese or chicken and bacon!

Preferred the chicken and bacon as a kid with chips and peas

I do wonder though how they can call it a minced beef pancake when they contain so little beef.
