I'm a big crisp fan and I notice the difference between brands. I actually like the salt and shake where you can add the amount of salt to your liking. There are some nice tasting crisps available made in Europe too although it's better to buy British when you can of course. Nice to see your subscribers have exceeded 34K. You're a great friendly bloke so I'm not surprised. Have a good Friday evening. 👍
Walkers developed “sun seed” oil years ago. A mix of sunflower and rapeseed. They championed it on their packaging at the time and for a while because it was lower in saturated fat and made a crisper crisp.
@@sillybilly1662 As someone on a fairly tight budget I'd prioritise price over flavour on crisps, as I've tasted most brands over the years and there really isn't a massive difference in flavour between any of them, at least not to my palate.

Seabrook first and then almost any supermarket. Even Waitrose are much cheaper than Walkers and taste better. As for flavour I can't even get my had to go in the bag, any flavour but.
I read recently that an Aldi customer bought an Aldi branded multipack of salted nuts, but the individual packs inside were KP branded - some sort of mix up on the packing line. In that case Aldi crisps are probably made by KP as well. Their crisp brands are McCoys and Tyrells
I remember growing up as a kid Gaz... And always choosing Walkers Crisps... Except when trying other Maize or Corn based snacks... They were usually made by either KP Crisps or Smiths Crisps like... Outer Spacers... Monster Munch... Horror Bags "Bones"... Horror Bags "Fangs"... Horror Bags "Claws"... Horror Bags "Ribs"... Frazzles... Chipsticks... Sky Divers... Disco's... Quavers... Nik Naks... Hula Hoops... etc. Supermarket own brands back in the 70's were awful... Many of these were soggy and tasteless... As well as many of them having green coloured Crisps due to the lack of quality control... They were cheap!... But they definitely weren't cheerful... But over the years though... Almost all of the supermarkets producing own brand Crisps... Upped their game and are now considered by many to be just as good as the big brand named Crisps... And more people will be willing to give them a try... As we're all becoming victims of high inflation and soaring shopping bills... Why pay triple the price for Walkers Crisps... When the Aldi Crisps are just as good... It's probably down to brand loyalty towards Walkers Crisps... But some are starting to see the light now that our budgets are being stretched... Thanks for the review Gaz... All the best... Cheers mate. 🍺

Golden wonder back in the 60's & 70's were so greasy that you could almost see thru them but that's what made them so delicious. They're all to dry for my taste now except the original kettle chips. Not cheap but so tasty & morish😛
Hi Gareth, way back in the late 1970's, when I was in my late teens, I loved Smith's crisps crinkle cut, you could only get them at the movies, they just had a distink flavour, nothing like any other chip. Not the same today. I do love Aldi chips, several flavours. Cheers Debra xxx

The last time I bought a Sainsbury's six-pack the price was 85p against about £1.85 for the Walkers'. If you like Doritos then watch out for the special offer on the "Dippers" packs. Good review Gaz! I buy the Morrison’s multipack. I agree, Walkers are good but not worth the money. Smith’s Salt and Shake (with the little blue packet of salt) are good too but also a bit pricey though at £1.35 for a pack of six in Sainsbury’s. I will try and tune in tonight for the party. Congratulations on 1 year 🎉👍
Hi Gareth. Thanks for another brill review. I've been looking forward to a crisp review. I like the Walkers one but if you are looking to save money and still get a decent crisp then it's definitely the Aldi one. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.
I have been buying the Aldi "Snackrite" version of Quavers for a while now. You get ten in a pack almost twice the amount in a small bag of Quavers and much cheaper and to me they taste better and in these days of constantly increasing prices it's nice to have the option. And, I didn't need George Useless to tell me that! 🙊😉
Hi Gareth. With the tofu review and this one, I'm really being looked after! Great review- incidentally, I've never rated Walkers. Another result for the low cost brand. Really enjoyed this. Thanks. Btw. My favourites are Co-op 'Irresistible.' 😋
Walkers are often the most common brand sold in most places always did anoy me that other brands like golden wonder were not so common to find in some places like pubs and vending machines /
My favourites are the White Smart Price Family Packs from Asda under. 100 Calories not too salt6 not to unsalted . I rarely eat a full packet anyway so they go to waste . They are £1:10 for a family pack !
Growing up I used to see Golden Wonder Crisps and Smiths only. They used have just three flavours; plain, plain ones with the sachet of salt and cheese and onions.
Were they we all the same size (weight) bags? I used to buy tesco's cheap snacks ( onion, cheese, salt and vinegar, not crsips but wosets, chipsticks, onion rings rip-offs ) till i worked out it was cheaper to buy the big bag standard tesco snacks.
Years ago I was told that ALL crisps are a by product of the starch trade, all crisps are pure profit on the potatoes that would have been thrown away.
I love cheese curls from Aldi and Lidl. They are less than 100 calories per bag and are much nicer than Quavers which taste really artificial in comparison. And they are also a whole lot cheaper.
Snackrite very good value and they don't skimp on the flavorings either, beef & onion, smokey bacon, chicken all great. Use as a daily item in my work lunchbox.
Near all leave there skins on nowadays 🤷♂️but lots of the supermarkets use the same manufacturer.Walkers you pay for the name! Now personally “Pipers” are the best crisps ever, made and grown in Lincolnshire by farmers, please give them a try 🤩 I buy them from Ocado. Great video 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

About time we had a crisps review since I live on crisps a crispoholic. Ready salted like wine that goes with any meal. (Sandwiches). I like Mckoys but can’t find them individually have to buy multi but both cheese and onion and salt and vinegar to die for❤️ Stopped buying walkers years ago thought tescos own tasted better.
Great review as always 😊 In these times finding the cheaper brands as good as the Big brands is so important, supermarket brands are well worth trying, Growing up I liked Golden Wonder, and Smiths, never liked Walkers, Seabrooks are good brand to try.

Last year I brushed this aside - not being a Ready Salted fan. Brought up on Perri and Tayto Cheese an Onion 😊 But... I fancied something plain. It was Morrisons Savers Ready Salted v the Tesco variety you featured. At about 14p a bag, Morrisons was obviously going to be the cheaper. They were slightly tastier too.
Great vid Gaz. I think this should have been a blind taste test tho. I had Aldi crisps but I found them tasting a bit overcooked. Anyway just my opinion. 😃👍
I love Tesco Cheese and Onion. No different from Walkers. May I suggest you travel to Millom to Patrons butchers. They have Cumberland Sausage burgers, red onion and marmalade sausages and others. All made by hand on the premises. Hope you are spot on. Take care. Marlene Taylor
I love the aldi crisps and i would of gone for them I remember when crisps were 3 old pennies when I was a kid .and you got a full even bulging packet of crisps in the late 70s early 80s they brought out a packet of hedgehog flavour crisps my son loved them one day I said let's try one and I did the crisp started like pork sausages which they were love fran xxxx
I really enjoy your comparison videos. We don’t eat Crisps but if we did I would know where to get a bargain. Here in rural Wales it’s a bit of a drive to some of these shops but that won’t stop me from getting a good deal. You know I might go and get some crisp, just in case, I don’t want to miss out.
For me it just depends where I am and what's available. I'm not loyal to any supermarket so I'll just buy whatevers the right price. If I was to go with flavour alone I'd always go for golden wonder.
I still prefer Walker’s but do like McCoy’s ready salted too 😊 my favourite ever crisps were Brannigans roast beef and mustard they were lovely can’t get them these days 🙁 Another great review 👍
Ready Salted is my worst flavour of crisps. My faves are Quavers. But a close second are Walkers Max Strong hot chicken wings. Two quid for a big bag but I have some with a sarnie each day and they do 4 or 5 days worth without going soft.
Aldi is on my doorstep so that’s where I shop, the crisps are good value. I always have my salted crisps with a salad & tuna mayo sandwich they go so nicely 😊
Great review again on taste the different. I used to love walkers cheese & onion, then I was introduced to Morrisons own brand. Can’t tell the difference on taste, and the supermarket brand are a lot cheaper.
Tudor Crisps - made in Peterlee and now long gone. Bought out by Walkers years ago who used the same factory to produce Walkers crisps which are sadly inferior. Loved the adventurous nature of Tudor with the many different flavours. I even got to taste them before they were produced (if at all in some cases) as an uncle knew someone in their product development kitchen.
You can't beat a bag salted off crisps with a beer I usually buy tescos because it's nearest 🤔 talking of beer is your bar open tonight bruv ??? PS you have a good holiday pal 😎😎😎
By the way, for those subscribers "oop North" I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Seabrook crisps. Edit: I've now read a few more comments and Seabrook is mentioned twice!
The kids love the Wotsits branded snacks, we tried them with Snackrite puffs but it was a total fail in the blind test. I have those cheesy puffs myself, but I tried both and would describe the Snackrite as having less density and crunch when compared to the branded Wotsits. Would appreciate if you could do a comparison of four brands of them. Trying to convince the kids that branded doesn't mean better :)
We take the Lidl Snaktastic - they used to do the 'white' bag where you could have or have not the blue salt bag added. Cheap as chips! - family friendly in terms of having plenty to go round for the price of the 'big ears' variety at x3 the price - and next week at Lidl in their super weekend selections you can get a big big bag containing 30x25g packets for £2.29 - 60p less than the normal price - which is still a bargain. Get down there - and Gareth you can do the Arnie impression tonight - I'll be there at 8pm!
I buy the Aldi ones or Tesco Stockwell ones which I find are just as nice as the others. I like the Aldi and Tesco big packs where you get 6 ready salted, 6 smokey bacon etc which works out cheaper.
Totally agree. Given the price it is Aldi for the win - however I will admit Walkers and Kettle and all those fancy brands are a bit nicer - just not enough to justify the price hike!
Hi Gareth, I generally choose ready salted but that's because they go with practically most sandwich fillings, the exception being cheese and onion which is a must for a cheese and pickle sarnie. I must admit that I do like a reasonably salty tasting crisp. Cheers to you and good luck for tonight, I'll be tuning in to keep up with the chat.
Agreed. Where Ready Salted is concerned they are all pretty much the same. I've bought Walkers and Happy Shopper. Not a lot of difference taste wise but just in price. The only real difference is when you go for flavoured crisps. For me you cannot beat Walkers Cheese and onion or Salt and Vinegar. They are leagues ahead. Solid review mate. Crack on.
Have to say my personal favourite is Seabrook Sea salted - nice crisps at a sensible price.
seabrook sea salted are fab!
Yep, Seabrook are my favourite
Seabrook are great!
Seabrook were better before they turned into gluten free 😟

There used to be a flavour and shake but I am not sure if it was smiths who made them

Cheers Fran xx
I really enjoy your comparison videos. We don’t eat Crisps but if we did I would know where to get a bargain. Here in rural Wales it’s a bit of a drive to some of these shops but that won’t stop me from getting a good deal. You know I might go and get some crisp, just in case, I don’t want to miss out.
thanks
Off topic hear l live in Australia and it has always been my dream to live in a stone cottage deep in the Welsh or English countryside. So ENVIOUS 😊😊😊
I lived with my gran growing up our favorite salt shake really good i like solid crisp and crinkle cut think holds flavour in .great video 😊x
Thanks for sharing!!
For me it just depends where I am and what's available. I'm not loyal to any supermarket so I'll just buy whatevers the right price. If I was to go with flavour alone I'd always go for golden wonder.
I still prefer Walker’s but do like McCoy’s ready salted too 😊 my favourite ever crisps were Brannigans roast beef and mustard they were lovely can’t get them these days 🙁
Another great review 👍
Brannigans were nice , I'd forgotten about those roast beef and mustard ones .
Brannigans beef n mustard were brilliant. I remember them.
thanks 😊
Ready Salted is my worst flavour of crisps. My faves are Quavers. But a close second are Walkers Max Strong hot chicken wings. Two quid for a big bag but I have some with a sarnie each day and they do 4 or 5 days worth without going soft.
We tryed snackright and found they have uped yhere game from before nice.
Aldi is on my doorstep so that’s where I shop, the crisps are good value. I always have my salted crisps with a salad & tuna mayo sandwich they go so nicely 😊
Cheers Louise
Great review again on taste the different. I used to love walkers cheese & onion, then I was introduced to Morrisons own brand. Can’t tell the difference on taste, and the supermarket brand are a lot cheaper.
The snack rite crisps are alright good value compared to Walkers, but the old Tudor pickled onion were my favs. Nice one Gareth👍
I love you and your videos Gaz!!
cheers Harry
great comparison, my wife and me just prefer ready salted, (plain as we call them), my true favourite are Aldi's 'hand cooked'
Thank you, your're welcome
I always go for supermarket own brand mate get more for your money top review once again keep up the great work mate
I love Golden Wonder crisps i think they are so much better than Walkers, great video buddy
Great comparison. Snackrite are my go to. Especially the ridge cut.
thanks
Brilliant crisp review Gareth. I Love ready salted crisps with me beer. Did you know crisps only go out of date on a Saturday.
thanks pal
haha
I think snackrite are quite a bargain for the level of taste,
The beef ones are absolutely delish ☺️
When you peel your spuds, dry the skins then deep fry them, bit of salt or salt and pepper seasoning, very nice😊
Great idea!
Edit: I've now read a few more comments and Seabrook is mentioned twice!
yes I was going to throw them in the mix
Walkers, sunflower and rapeseed in varying proportions. Translated, "we use whatever is cheaper at the moment ". The best, "anything but walkers"
very true
I have found the Snackrite bags often half full of broken bits so the last mouthfulls necessitate tipping the bag straight down me gob.
i normally get tesco brand or aldi brand and i noticed only that walkers has crunch and u right walkers taste bit saltley
love your honesty really good keep it up wish some one in Australia would do this hey may be me hahahahahah
Cheers Peter
Love your videos mate you are the 'brand loyalists' worst enemy lol
Cheers
you should consider doing the pringles vs own brand versions too
Walkers are of the few branded versions I prefer that i think use a different/sweeter variety of potato
We always have Aldi snackrite crisps. The cheese n onion one's are great too.
Thank you 👌 one to look at
Absolutely spot on!
Why waste money?
My favourite crisp - Smokey Bacon, by Rishy Crisps, but way before your time Gareth!
Cheers pal
We take the Lidl Snaktastic - they used to do the 'white' bag where you could have or have not the blue salt bag added. Cheap as chips! - family friendly in terms of having plenty to go round for the price of the 'big ears' variety at x3 the price - and next week at Lidl in their super weekend selections you can get a big big bag containing 30x25g packets for £2.29 - 60p less than the normal price - which is still a bargain. Get down there - and Gareth you can do the Arnie impression tonight - I'll be there at 8pm!
cheers 🍻
Still go for walkers
I buy the Aldi ones or Tesco Stockwell ones which I find are just as nice as the others. I like the Aldi and Tesco big packs where you get 6 ready salted, 6 smokey bacon etc which works out cheaper.
Totally agree. Given the price it is Aldi for the win - however I will admit Walkers and Kettle and all those fancy brands are a bit nicer - just not enough to justify the price hike!
I'm not a great fan of ready salted but the fact that all you have is the crisp and salt it's probably the best flavour to test for fairness
So you're a crisp in kinda guy?
@@VampireJack10 I guess I am 👍🏻😆
Hello James hope your good pal, not heard from you in a while. Yes glad you can tune in face a good weekend pal. 👍👍
@@BaldFoodieGuy yeah, life gets in the way Gareth, you know how it is lol! Definitely be tuning in tonight 👍🏻
Crack on.
