One of the first things I tried making in the Air Fryer was Sausage Rolls.I used Edwards of Conwy Sausage meat because they do really good bacon too and some ready rolled puff pastry and some egg wash.I did put some Chopped Leek in with the Sausage Meat being a Welshman.I was Strutting about like Gordon Ramsey for the rest of the Day 😊
Like Gordon Ramsey? What running about swearing at people, holding 2 slices of bread either side of someone's head and calling them an idiot Sandwich 😂😂😂😂
I found your channel looking for air fryer bacon. I absolutely love it! So nice to see a UK youtuber. Im currently working my way through the back catalogue 😂
Aldi all the way for me, and like you, I've tried them all. If they have changed the recipe for the Aldi ones, i can't say I've noticed. Good review, Gaz 👍
Nah Aldi ones got cheap tasting sausage imo there alright for the price though and they taste the same as birds eye ones I prefer to get frozen pukka ones from Tesco and there sometimes on clubcard offer too
Only occasionally had Greggs when working on site for a quick fix. Cannot say if Aldi or Iceland is better. Because i class them as junk food to be honest. Have tried Marks and Sparks Best Ever ones maybe once a month. They are nice and meaty with a variety of fillings. More expensive guess they are at £8 Quid for 16 or 50p each. But you get what you pay for in the end. No blood pressure, not over weight, no heart problems and still working in heavy engineering at 68. Get my drift.
Sausage Rolls the greatest gift to mankind, and British❤😊 through& through. Now,keeping my hand in i make me own. But with age& laziness Greggs creep in quite a lot now. There are many brands some better, some worse, however I think most of us play safe and stick with Greggs Maybe living on a reputation, but still the No1😊 Allan&Family
The Aldi and Greggs are 20% pork, Gaz. The Iceland are 45% pork sausage meat, which includes water, wheat and other fillers. So the lower protein is probs because it's less than 20% pork🤔.
Nah. Although meat is mostly protein it’s not only referencing meat protein in the figures. For example a bagel has 8-9g of protein per bagel. The higher protein amount could be from thicker pastry etc
Great video. Like you say we are drawn to "big names" and at the end of the day they are more or less similar so it is all about personal preference. I don't mind a Greggs but I also like Morrison's and Sainsbugs fresh and hot from the deli.
My first choice. For a sausage roll. Or even a steak pie. Will be Chatwins if you have one in your area. We used to have several in my town now only two. If not. Then I would. Go to Gregg's ..
I tried the aldi sausage rolls before Christmas along with there chicken bakes and considering the price difference between them and the Greg's versions the clear winners for me are Aldi due to the price. Taste wise almost similar so it's no brainer. 👍
If you like cress or mustard shoots on your sandwiches, you could grow them on kitchen towel on your window ledge in that plastic tray. Saving it from to the landfill. I use the trays from my mushrooms for seed sewing, saving more plastic and me some money on shop bought seed trays.
It doesn’t pay to be a food snob, Gareth. I used to be pro Morrisons & Asda, Aldi, Iceland, I have now seen the light, for me personally it’s Sainsbury’s, m&s, farmfoods & Lidl. I personally think my new supermarkets offer what’s best for my pallet. But Farmfoods & Sainsbury’s are my main go to every week. Keep up the great content!
Here's one for you Gaz my brother used to do contract maintenance work a few years back and one of his contracts was at a cup a soup factory. All the branded and supermarket cup a soups are made and packaged in the same factory! He used to bring me a carrier bag full of freebies. Great when out walking or hiking with a bit of crusty bread! Everything from Lloyd Grossman stuff to Tesco budget (basically all the same!).
Irrelevant if they're not made on the same production line, using exactly the same ingredients and same quantities. Made in the same factory doesn't necessarily make them the same product.
A comprehensive review Gaz 👍 didn't see the approved premises mark on the Iceland ones so don't know where they're produced. Greggs made in UK, Aldi EU (Ireland)
I’ve tried them all lol but my favourite in frozen sausage rolls is cooplands if you can get them as not many places do , I found them in heron along with their cheese straws 😍
Keep the Greggs box, and put the Aldi ones in there, and show your kids you taking sausage rolls out of the Greggs box, and ask them what they tasted like!
I haven't tried the Iceland ones yet, but their other £1 products are good. I've tried the crispy pancakes, both minced beef and cheese and ham, and also the subs. As far as the other sausage rolls in this review are concerned, I did buy Aldi twice, but I went back to Greggs, which taste slightly better.
Great comparison. I'll have to give the Aldi a try. My problem with these is adjusting the cooking time and temperature because my fan oven burned the Greggs into charcoal briquettes at 200c for 25mins! Some tinkering required or maybe use the non fan top oven that's with the grill. 👍
Hi Gareth, thanks for another brill review. There doesn't look much in it. I've been buying the greggs ones from Iceland and they are generally decent quality keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.
The Aldi sausage roll looked more inviting once cooked also it had bigger gaps in the pastry for better cooling of the inside, could you do a Cornish pastie comparison as I’m more partial to those than a sausage roll.
Great review Gaz these are the best one you do comparison ones the Aldi looks better and the yellow is egg wash and better price and Aldi ones that are already cooked and gorgeous and that’s against Tesco and Morrisons and Aldi ones are a lot cheaper 👏👏👍👍
I used to buy extra long cooked sausage rolls for my lunch in birmingam city centre. Was from one of these Food4Y type establishments where they sell cheap and in bulk. I loved these bumper sausage rolls, knocked spots off Greggs.
Good, honest assessment as usual. I really like your focus on the ingredients and nutritional info which consumers like me tend to overlook when concentrating on price rather than quality.
Hi Gareth, Thanks for doing the sausage roll test 👍 I totally agree with you as with a lot of different products food clothing & other products you definitely pay for the name in most cases 👍✨
Hi Gareth, hope you well, I had a sausage roll for my diner, it's a local make you won't have these were you are, It's all local pork 10 miles with in Wrexham . It's a Village Bakery made in Coedpoeth 4 miles from Wrexham they produce all types of pies , cakes and bread,. Village Bakery make bread for Marks & Spencer, There sausage rolls are very nice and peppery in taste. I have tried Aldi and Lidl sausage rolls and I don't mind them, Greggs are OK but I don't mind Pound bakery sausage rolls but they got to be bought at the shop, I haven't had the frozen Greggs just had them from the shop. As always a good honest review catch you soon, Take care😁😋🤤👍
Cheers mate...just started air frying sausage rolls for me daily lunchtime dog walk in the woods and use Greggs from Iceland....Think I'll change to their Jumbo ones thanks to this review and buy a load from Aldi next time I go past there... Top man.
Loved this video, I’ve never had Greg’s the nearest is 70 miles but I will try the sausage rolls from Aldi, Greg’s your paying for the name, Thank-you Gareth for another great review❤
Tried the Iceland jumbo last week and thought they were decent and they all taste better with your favourite beans, mines are Branston and plenty hp brown sauce.
Personally I've always thought Greggs overrated, and I would agree with you about the Aldi in looks and taste. The Iceland is described as Jumbo but is hardly bigger than the other two. Thanks for another interesting video 😊👍
Great review. Somehow it's always satisfying when the big name brands are shown up to be not as great as they'd have us believe. Keep up the good work Gareth.
Thanks Gaz for that comparison I have noticed that there are quite a few products by Greggs in Iceland but as you say Aldi have some really good quality produce but saying that our local butchers do there own sausage rolls and I find them more tasty and the meat seems to be more roughly cut than any supermarket or franchise sausage meat.
I love sausage rolls since I now get food for one,I heat them up in the Air Fryer,Asda are my favourite, thanks for your reviews, you review what people actrally buy!
Afternoon Gareth funny how the pastries on each sausage roll was different. Glad you enjoyed them all but obviously you will be buying Aldi ah! Thank you for the enjoyable vlog as always. Sue
Love the reviews Gaz, but also love these comparison videos as well!!. I did it with Beers once as I used to always say 'a beer is a beer' but they are most definitely very different!!
Did you notice all those unprounceable additives in the Greggs ones. The Aldi ones didn't seem to have any of them although they both got palm oil in which for some people is a no no .
GREGGS MAKES THE BEST SAUSAGE ROLLS. IT USED TO BE ONLY, £1.50 FOR 4 GREGGS SAUSAGE ROLLS BUT IN RECENT YEARS, THEY'VE INCREASED THE PRICE TO AN EXPENSIVE AMOUNT.
I WILL BUT I'M SURE THAT I WILL STILL, PREFER GREGGS SAUSAGE ROLLS, THAN ANY OTHER. I'VE TIRED DIFFERENT SAUSAGE ROLLS FROM VARIOUS SUPERMARKETS AND THEY WERE HORRIBLE.
I do like Greggs sausage rolls Gareth but I’m like you I love pepper…! So if you boil it down these products are not “so much” about %of meat but more about initial taste… god knows what part of the pig goes into these things and perhaps we shouldn’t know as it could affect us buying them, but most food products are “just about taste”… that’s what makes us buy I think 👍🏻
I buy them all depending on whatever shop im in, can't go wrong with sausage rolls, but the key is to leave it for 15 minutes before eating it, and when you do that... The greggs wins, hands down. Great vid 👍🏻
Keep eating those Greggs sausage rolls my company shares add to the pension! Apart from the price the Aldi rolls looked very nice on the plate I must give them a try.
We like the aldi roll because the slits in the top, for us hold the ideal amount of sweet chilli sauce per bite. I'll be honest and we would not get the iceland roll due to the soy protein, at least it is not GMO soy as that has to be labeled, but we are weary of that atm due to issues with GMO soy being sold as non-gmo soy.
Greg's for me all day long. I did find them more greasy. The Aldi ones I found had a tang to the meat and way too much pastry. Big difference between taste test and eating a full one . But iike you say, all about opinions. Another good video which I enjoyed😮
Great review Gareth, enjoyed that. I always buy Aldi & Lidl own brands, reasonable prices and excellent quality. I will never buy another Heinz product as their prices are just obscene, as are most of the so called top brands,
I don't know what greggs have done to their sausage rolls, they used to be lovely year's ago. Then all of a sudden something changed about them, I don't know if it's that they are using a different glaze or what, only I can no longer eat them, as they have me running off to the loo. I haven't tried any of the others, I just by sheets of pastry and sausages now, and make my own. I would be interested to know if farmfoods sell sausage rolls, as there is a farmfoods opening up not far from me, does anyone know please? Good review Gareth, keep up the good work 👍
Hi Gaz, I'm having a right chuckle watching this video. I inadvertently hit the playback speed button and it started playing back at 0.5 or half speed. Well you sound like you've been in the ale house all day and you're as fist as a part! 😅 You should try it out Gaz, it's added a comical new dimension to your videos. 😂
This is why I like this guy, honest reviews 14:00 he's right about us all being brainwashed, always think for yourselves :) I am also guilty of this thinking Greggs is the best but that 💩 always gives me heartburn, that's next for your next food review the one that gives you less heartburn I actually wont eat Gregg's anymore because of this if you can help me out with that in your food tests I'm sure a lot of people would be greatful nobody likes heartburn and Greg's is the worst for that!
I did buy Greg's when they were the pre inflated price .I am now buying the Aldi ones for what the cost they are ok. My least favourite sausage rolls were findus nice pastry but not so nice sausage .
When baking frozen pastries in the oven, even if you use non-stick Aluminium foil, the pastries will still stick to the foil, the best way around this is to remove the baking tray from the oven and place it on top of the cooker and leave the pastries to cool for 10 minutes, then it becomes easier to remove them without them breaking apart. With Sausage-Rolls, after baking I use a sharp knife to cut along the length of the pastry and open it up to expose the strip of pork inside, this helps to cool the Sausage-Rolls, and allows me to add a sauce onto the meat before I close the top layer of the pastry back onto the Sausage-Roll; the sauce mixture I use is Mexican tomato sauce mixed with Jalapeño sauce which is infinite times more tastier than Ketchup.
@@janeburke147 You can buy Mexican tomato sauce which is better than Ketchup. You might also want to consider cutting open your Sausage-Rolls ie the top layer of the pastry, and then add Primula cheese which comes in a squeezable tube.
I used to like the Greggs ones cold, just as much as hot. Have you tried the others cold as well and if so, what were your thoughts? I can't try now as I'm allergic to pork these days. Great vlog comparison, thank you 😀👍
To be honest , it's similar to Iceland they do a big tray for a £1 ok they not up to much , but if your struggling ,there's about 12 sausage rolls in them 👍
Hi Gareth r the GREGGS sausage roll urcgot in box has good as the ones u buy single in the GREGGS shops I've never tried them in box's would love ur opinion Gareth thanks from David Peterborough
I remember when I was we, my used to buy Sausage Rolls in a tin..! I loved them, the pastry was a kinda of Filo pastry and they came out the tin, six of them If I remember correctly all joined at the hip. Once baked they are the closet taste wise I can remember to a Greggs.
Tried a fair few of the Iceland own range recently and the pies and pasties have always been full of fat and gristle. You are really lucky in your reviews that you never seem to encounter this or maybe im just someone who really chews my food thoroughly!? Anyway glad you like them but personally the own brand Iceland range is quite poor quality.
While I was watching this review as my lunchtime entertainment I was having sausage rolls, beans and chips for my meal. The sausage rolls, which I prefer to any of these three are from Home Bargains, we're lucky that our Home Bargains has a bakery. They are £1.09 for five (not as large as Greggs) but are really tasty and I would recommend them for a try.
Brilliant! We all know we are going to get a fair comparison with you. I’ll look at Aldi tomorrow! I must say, a lot (not all) of aldis copy stuff is just as good as what it’s copying, and usually much cheaper.
I have had better sausage rolls than Greggs, but not very often and mainly in good cafes where they are a lot more expensive. Overall, I would take Greggs over most others. I had a chicken slice from Greggs a couple of weeks ago and it really was the biz. Greggs seldom disappoint in my opinion. Can't fault the price of the Aldi pack, though.
We are certainly brainwashed into buying Greggs, that's why we need you Gareth. And it's not a few pence different, Aldi were about a THIRD the price!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Gareth! Have you tried the Tesco finest sausage rolls? It’s from the deli range. They are thicker but half the length of a standard sausage roll. They’re really good 🤤
I tend to make my own sausage rolls rather than buy frozen. Not really found a nice smooth sausagemeat yet though. Have to say when out in town I like to get some Pound Bakery sausage rolls. They are delicious. I'm not sure they are good quality or a high meat content, but the taste is superb.

Probably the pork sausage meat is high in fat so the protein will be lower !

Great review , my type of food, and I love your honesty. If possible ? Pies, Pasties, please 🙏
I've done a few, cheers
Cheers for the tips
HP for me 😋
@@janeburke147 HP is a very good sauce; much better than Ketchup. 👍
@@FART-REPELLENT definitely 👍🏻
@@janeburke147 You can buy Mexican tomato sauce which is better than Ketchup. You might also want to consider cutting open your Sausage-Rolls ie the top layer of the pastry, and then add Primula cheese which comes in a squeezable tube.
Love that you did the math on the back of an opened envelope LMAO... keep em coming Gareth.
More to come!
Sometimes you pay for the brand heinz greggs but they are more expensive
Best wishes gareth 👍
Enjoyed watching
Cheers Kizzy, yes we all do it don't we. All the best, have a good weekend 👍
I used to like the Greggs ones cold, just as much as hot. Have you tried the others cold as well and if so, what were your thoughts? I can't try now as I'm allergic to pork these days. Great vlog comparison, thank you 😀👍
We love the Aldi frozen sausage rolls and a great price too x
My husband loves Greggs sausage rolls a lot of people do I think thanks for the video I think Aldi are pretty good
I just tried the new Jumbo sausage roll from Iceland this very morning and I loved it. 50p per sausage roll and as tasty as it is, can't be bad.
Cheers Gaz you just reminded me i have a box of those Greigs ones in the freezer the oven is on pre heating 😂
"I know what Aldi buying" as well 👍 Yet to find any fault with the Crestwood range.
To be honest , it's similar to Iceland they do a big tray for a £1 ok they not up to much , but if your struggling ,there's about 12 sausage rolls in them 👍
I remember when years ago sausage rolls like this!! Iceland 👍
Hi Gareth r the GREGGS sausage roll urcgot in box has good as the ones u buy single in the GREGGS shops I've never tried them in box's would love ur opinion Gareth thanks from David Peterborough
Cheers David
Good review Gareth, just goes to show that there is no need for food/label snobbery 👍
You're welcome 😊
Hi Gaz. Your better off making your own. There so easy.
Thanks for the post though pal.👍
No problem 👍
good review dont know why people love greggs,is it because they are warm and available at the outlet?instead of heating up at home?.
I remember when I was we, my used to buy Sausage Rolls in a tin..! I loved them, the pastry was a kinda of Filo pastry and they came out the tin, six of them If I remember correctly all joined at the hip. Once baked they are the closet taste wise I can remember to a Greggs.
I'm getting chest pains not sure if it's the cost, the sulphites or the dead orangutans 😢
Another fab review Gareth I thank you ,❤
My pleasure!
I like greggs but i buy aldi as they are much cheaper and not much different.
Brilliant! We all know we are going to get a fair comparison with you. I’ll look at Aldi tomorrow! I must say, a lot (not all) of aldis copy stuff is just as good as what it’s copying, and usually much cheaper.
Aldi for me Gareth with lashing of brown sauce. Great review mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Yum 😋
Oo I love sausage rolls! Work near a Greggs so have one most lunch times lol
Nice one Gaz, love a sausage roll. 😋👍
Hey Gareth! Have you tried the Tesco finest sausage rolls? It’s from the deli range. They are thicker but half the length of a standard sausage roll. They’re really good 🤤
Iceland do a bag of 25 mini sausage rolls in the £1 range. Same taste as the two for a £1. Barging for kids parties etc
Aldi gets my vote everytime! They are lovely xx
Luv your reviews mate. No frills, say how it is, nowt fancy.. keep doin what your doin 👍🏼
Thanks, will do!
I must admit that though I like sausage rolls but with mustard, not brown sauce, they are not a patch on a good pork pie. Keep up the good reviews.
Cheers will do
I do think Greggs very much live on the back of there name… give me a proper butchers sausage roll any day of the week! Top video Gaz …. Smithy
Cheers Smithy
