    Got an 0562 in the $150 sell off and boy am I glad I did. What a great knife. It has become my favorite. My Benchmades and Spydercos are getting a lot more shelf time.

      I got my Shaman when it first came out for $150 and feel the same way about it. I do have the 0562 in g10 and elmax, it's a great knife too. But my vote goes to the Shaman.

      id never even look twice at any of these edc bro knives that weren't marked down at least 40% off. it blows my mind what edc bros are willing to fork over for what are really dumb shits that cost a fraction of their retail to manufacture. at least zt is a knife that has industrial design and fit and finish. sc is a joke for boy brained man children who think being ugly makes it a "serious tool" when in reality it's nothing more than a seriously overpriced toy to collect dust in your drawer along with the 50 other sc knives sitting in there, which are all really the same exact knife with a slightly different steel as if it matters.

    Nice Video..actually one of the best I've seen in a while. That's stayed on point and made a lot of sense. A knife is a tool. I'm so happy you didn't talk about fidgeting the Knife all day. at some point, this EDC knife community, turn into something similar to women and talking about their purses. At some point we started talking about the fidget factor, trying to Spidey flick every single knife isn't what the knives made for.

      Vehicles are made for transportation. But your not gonna look at a mini van the way you would a mustang. Some people look at vehicles like art work. There's no reason a knife can't be looked at the same way. Its obvious there primary function is cutting. But there's nothing wrong with having admiration for the design either.

    Nice comparison MC! I had considered both and bought a shaman mostly because I’m a Spyderco fan and it was a bit cheaper. I had to send it back as the lock stick was really bad and found a g10 s35vn 0562 for a little more than the cost of the shaman. To me the ZT is much nicer knife all round. I love a comp lock and maybe because I have a lot of Spyderco Knives I’m getting a little bored of the format and of the increased prices.This is my first ZT and I’m genuinely concerned it probably won’t be the last!

    I think ZT has the better warranty. So in my opinion theres the durability, something happens to the blade a new one is $30 away, bust a tip, or put a big chip in a Spyderco and it goes in a drawer somewhere cause you cant get blade replaced.(edit) didn't know you'd get into warranty and unless they made a massive change Spyderco policy is no blade replacement.(at least that's what they told me when I busted tip off of my S30V PM2)

  • @Tomy_654

    Great review of both blades. I have never owned a spyderco, but am considering a shaman. Your reference to lock bar failure at the end of the view is 100% accurate. I had a 0393glo fail on me a few weeks ago. Cut the crap out of my knuckle on my right hand. Zt is gonna have to fix that.

    • @Tomy_654
      @Tomy_654 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Richard Davis well funny thing my buddy held it to either side and taped it on his knee a couple times at it shut. Like an idiot I taped it on the palm of my left hand and and the blade swung around and hit the knuckle on my index finger on my right hand. It was a brand new zt glow carbon fiber.

      I had six zt's with that lock face issue where the lock would fail from a spine tap, nowhere near a whack.
      The 0393sw was one of them. But to zt's credit, I sent them all in for warranty and they fixed them all.

  • @sputumtube
    @sputumtube 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I bought my Shaman when they were first introduced at the cheaper price. However, I've hardly used/carried it at all due to the weight. If you're wearing snug fitting thick denim trousers then fine, the weight is supported. Any lighter pants though are constantly being 'pulled down'. For this reason it's stayed in it's box tucked away in a drawer for nearly the whole time I've had it while my HAP40 Endura is a constant companion.

  • @patrickz2565
    @patrickz2565 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am a year late, but the choice for me was between the ZT 0393 GLCF and the Shaman, the recessed point of the spine where the flipper is, makes it a non-issue in pocket, the weight drops to 5 ounces, the CF makes it fill the hand a little more. I think everything except the disassembly that you didn’t like in the ZT knife, was addressed in the GLCF. GLCF IS 20CV, and since it rains a ton where I live, and I hike a ton here in the PNW, it made my decision for me. I think it all comes down to preference. I also like how the GLCF points to the far right in pocket V the shaman, making it easier to get into the pocket when the knife is clipped in. Otherwise, I would give them a tie and give this final...you can’t go wrong with either knife. It is great to have two fantastic choices made in the USA. Well done ZT and Spiderco. Thanks for the video.

      You could buy a door from some company. Install it everyday and live there for years. Then one day some crazy person walks in when you thought it was locked. Is that door still a good door? Did it work as designed? Do you need the lock everyday? Was it worth it to pay that kind of money for a door with such nice materials? 😂

    great review, as usual. for me the shaman and 562cf were hard sells. i have the shaman at 203$ and ordered the 562cf at 260$. once in hand the shaman is just amazing, if expensive. hope i'll be impressed with the zt with the 20cv blade. zt seems more premium with the beautiful carbon fiber (NOT a fan of g10 except the smooth g10 on the shaman). who knows? price on both will continue to rise, for sure.

  • @nicehandsfeet11
    @nicehandsfeet11 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Idk why everyone loves the ergos on the shaman. It’s okay but the manix XL is waaaaay better. The shaman g10 feels cheap and plasticy plus the whole balance is head heavy so it just feels odd. Also the blade not being rounded when closed catches and looks ugly/bulky. The ZT and manix xl are both more balanced higher quality feeling. 200 for the shaman is steep.

    I'm a Spyderco guy but I just picked up a ZT 0562 and I really enjoy it, more so than the Shamans I've handled. It fits my hand like it was made for me and feels like heaven.
    Aesthetically the Shaman handles look cheap but feel pretty good, if Spyderco would ever get their fingers out of their ears and make micarta handles regularly available then I'd probably like it's appearance more.

    The Shaman is a great knife. But as far as carry-ability goes, the jimping on the Shaman will eat a hole through your pocket. I have two pairs of jeans that have the exact same hole in the same place, both from the jimping/sharp corner on the blade that’s exposed when closed. I’d still take it over the ZT based on the compression lock alone.

  • @STERLING430
    @STERLING430 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It's funny how EDC knife nuts will sit there and really talk about how much they love the new FRN lightweight models. Yet go crazy over the durability of their blade steel, or they're locking mechanism. why in the heck would you want to carry an FRN knife, when you have carbon fiber, titanium and g10 out there. You're literally choosing the lesser material because you save the weight of a small pack of Big Red gum, or even less than that.. why?

  • @aznelite325
    @aznelite325 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought a ZT 0562 a couple months ago after watching your videos and seeing the sale price of $150 since it seems the standard S35VN version is being discontinued? For that price, I couldn't pass it up and I'm glad I didn't hesitate. I've done light spine tap testing and no failure whatsoever on my specific knife. I was also considering the Shaman but to me, the 0562's value proposition seemed better - I was also looking for something that felt a bit fancier and titanium does that for me.
    And then I got that red XM-18 3.5 harpoon spanto lmao. I've sharpened my 0562 on my Wicked Edge and have carried it, but still haven't even sharpened the XM yet >.< I look forward to when you are comfortable enough to sharpen one of your XMs on the KME lol

    I am a Spyderco fanboy and for the second time in my life, I overpaid for a knife on the secondary market (we don't like to admit it but I bet we've all done it at least once). My first was the Slysz Bowie and the second was the Shaman in cruwar & micarta. Honestly, this knife is crazy good in terms of deployment, ergo's feel in the hand and blade quality. I have never owned a ZT but it seems you did a thorough and fair comparison but I have to think that at this point the material choices might set the Shaman apart even more.

Make up your mind ZT, you have thick as shit blade stocks trying to maintain the "tank" image, but add weak ass bearings and a slippery frame lock? it's almost laughable, trying to appeal to every market to sell. If you want pure cutting tools buy Spyderco, if you want pure toughness and still be able to cut things buy Cold Steel, if you want a knife that pretends to do both but fails at both - buy ZT.
