I used to hate how all spydercos looked back in the late 90’s and 00’s when I first got interested in knives. After not buying knives or having much need for them during the last 20 years, I started working where I could really use a good folding knife again. I think it was knife-videos on TH-cam that got me thinking the PM2 might fit my needs and I bought one, black S45VN / G10. The knife has just been such a joy for me and I love everything about it, especially the way it lets me get any kind of grip very close to the edge for control and power/leverage when cutting/whittling… The PM2 is starting to look beautiful in my eyes, but simply because of how right the knife is for me. I have been curious about the manix and shaman and this video is one of many “PM vs” comparison videos I’ve watched and each time I decide that “nah, I like the PM2 more”. Other than maybe getting a PM2 in some super steel, the only other knife I expect to get tempted to buy, will be the newly announced Military-2, because it’s designed like a PM2 regarding the places where the thumb/index finger can be placed and because it also has a compression lock. Whether I get the new Military-2 or a super-steel version of the PM2 or not, I will still be very content just because of having my lovely simple black/G10 PM2 which I love!
The Shaman and Manix are my number one and two. For everyday, opening packages, breaking down light cardboard, whatever else, they’re both phenomenal. In hand, the z-wear Shaman (with a deep carry clip) is the most comfortable knife I’ve ever held. The Manix has a couple slight advantages for some stuff, though. The thinner blade is PERFECTION for breaking down heavier cardboard. That coupled with the overall heft of the knife…it’s one of the greatest working knives ever made, IMO. The other place the Manix really shines is that it’s fun to toy with. That lock is a lot of fun and it’s liquid smooth for a knife running on phosphor bronze. With the Shaman’s overall ergonomics and easy of carry, it’s still my number one. But the Manix is kind of a “1b”. It’s hard to call that knife “not as good as the shaman”. It’s more of a preference thing, I suppose.
I like the pm2 and the manix more personally. I have a shaman, but I never really carry it, it's always seemed too bulky and heavy, and I like the ergonomics of the manix a lot more.
@@chimchu3232 Really? The shaman being bulky to some people has always kind of confused me. The difference between a shaman and a manix in my pocket has always been basically indistinguishable…sometimes I even forget which one I grabbed that morning…
@manifestgtr yes, the shaman is noticeably thicker than the pm2 and the manix 2, and I have aftermarket scales on my manix that make it thinner than stock and 1.5 oz lighter, and for my hands the shaman is the least comfortable to hold and use. They are all fantastic knives, but those are my personal preferences. I know I'm the odd one out lol
I've had a Manix 2 XL that I picked up months after it's initial release and it's a TANK (has solid steel liners), but has been with me nearly every day since. There's virtually no grip left to the G10 scales at this point, but with all the jimping it has, it's still super secure. It has a hook to the handle at the rear though, so if someone has truly enormous finger widths, a full 4 finger grip might be a little cramped (my Large - X Large glove sized hands work great). I did pick up the Blade HQ CPM M4 variant though, so I'll be carrying that more and more. The Shaman's quite comfortable, but the handle thickness does bother me a bit. Not in the hand, but in the pocket. That and it's expensive. Truth be told though, I'd LOVE to see them finally revise the standard Military model with a compression lock. They haven't done it with any of their 4" blades though, even though many have asked for it, so there has to be a reason for it... Like maybe they'd have to increase the thickness of the liners to keep the same strength and it adds too much weight. Either way, my experiences with Spyderco's liner locks haven't been the most favorable (Military, Captain, Tenacious, etc.).
**EDIT** I forgot Spyderco makes a left handed PM2 now, so you can ignore what I said about that. The Shaman, however, is currently only made as a right handed knife. Also, I forgot to mention that since the PM2 still has that lanyard barrel to work around during disassembly, the Shaman is probably the easiest to take apart.
You hit the nail on the head describing these. Yes.... I'm also a Spyderco fanboy.. I used to think they were ugly (but they have grown on me) and nothing beats them as a tool. I'm left handed, and it took me a little bit to get used to the compression lock awhile back, But I can manipulate a PM2, PM3, Shaman with my left as well as you manipulate with your right. But I get what your saying with feeling like you would drop it.. I trained my hand to hold at an angle when I close the knife instead of holding the knife vertical for that reason. I love your videos man. Just calling it how you see it, that's what I enjoy most.. I also really enjoy your voice impressions while poking fun at the plebs.. Always makes me smile.
I have an older Manix I bought in a store in 2003 or 04 which is a lock back. A Manix 2 Translucent blue lightweight model with the forgiving" pocket clip. And a Manix 2 which is better quality than either and more expensive than either but I carry the Translucent so often as an EDC both off and at work as a Police Officer due to the ease of the pocket clip and excellent light weight design. Some don't like the fact that the translucent has no liners in the handle but I have never had any issue's with wear or compromised safety. I also have a Para Military that I love but the first week I had it I set it on top of my police car to take off my gear to go exercise at our local track and drove off with it then when i realized what I had done luckily I heard the CLUNK driving about sixty miles an hour and my face got flushed in anger and worry. Luckily I found it on the road but it has road rash on the G10 and it opened up and broke off the tip. I fixed the tip and touched up the rash but was disappointed in myself. Spyderco's are great knives and easy to keep sharp but I do prefer the Manix style blade.
I circled back to this review because I have owned both the PM2 and Manix 2, but in the end these were not for me. The Shaman is one that I am interested in now. It will replace a full-size Benchmade Grip REI special edition with G10 scales that I gifted to a friend. The great info and your knife wisdom are much appreciated.
First off, great review! I opted for the Para 3, for me its a great all around EDC knife. Then I bought the Shaman, needed something a tad bigger and robust. And now have just ordered the Manix 2, just cause its so F’ing cool and my Manix 2 xl needs his brother.
I have them all, I love them all, and they all get pocket time, but if I had to keep only one, it would be the Manix. Best ergos to me, I think it slices as well as the PM2, which is better than the Shaman, and it’s better in the pocket than the PM2 to me, and on par with the Shaman. I’ve never cared as much about weight as profile in the pocket, and while the Manix is wide, it’s rounded butt and clip position make it easy to get your hand by it in the pocket. The Shaman is my second favorite, and it’s very close to the Manix for me, but it just doesn’t slice quite as well, and I prefer the choil and slightly shorter blade of the Manix for the typical EDC stuff that I usually do like opening boxes. The Para is great because it’s light and a little easier to flick open than either the Manix or the Shaman to me, but it never stays in the rotation as long as the other two. I mostly rotate between a Manix 2, a Shaman, and a Benchmade 940-2.
The PM2 compression lock works pretty good left handed if you have the clip moved over, eventually that clip will get loose on you though. Other compression locks I’ve handled can be pretty difficult or impossible to close left handed, probably just an ergonomic thing.
Loving my Manix II Lightweight for about a year now. Since I'm not using it all day long, the lightness trumps more comfortable but heavier handle. At 2.85 ounces it is also fast to take out/put away which may have something to do with the slimness of the handle's profile...
I just got a manix2 lightweight thanks i find your videos very informative and entertaining thanks again. I'm on waiting lists for a.shaman if I don't breakdown and get serrated blade.
I had to pause the video and go and grab a PM2 and a Manix 2 from my knife box while watching this ( I already had the Shaman in my pocket). Lately the Shaman has been my main carry. I recently got the M4 version, and I absolutely love the blade shape and ergonomics, but I also love the Manix and PM2. I have 11 different models of each ( I have a problem). I absolutely agree that these 3 models are 3 of the best folders available, and I originally also thought that Spyderco was kind of ugly. Then on a whim I bought the S110v Manix and PM2 on the same day and have not bought another brand since.
I love the compression lock but it would be cool if they would offer the pm2 and shaman with the ball bearing lock as an option. Now that would be pretty sweet
I am sitting here flipping 2 Civivi Pintails, a Para 3 Lightweight, and a Manix 2 blurple G-10 with S110v steel. All while racking the slides on a Walther PPS M2 9mm and a Smith & Wesson Shield 45. Oh, and this while sipping some 4 Roses Single Barrel whiskey. No, I do not have any full magazines in the same room. Alcohol, knives, loaded guns...not smart. How much does anyone want to bet the first reply will be, "why not?"
Just got into knives recently due to your videos and now I can’t stop collecting. I would like to thank you but my wallet doesn’t feel the same 😜. Appreciate your videos and keep up the good work.
all great knives, but right now the manix 2 is the best buy at about 132 for the m390 model and 148 for the coated m390 model--both in the heavier g10. shaman in s30v at 203, basic para 2 in s30v about 150. although more expensive, the shaman is a must assuming you already have the others.
Brilliant video, really enjoyed that, very in depth, I’ve got the Manix 2 and really fancy the Shamen full black version, great to see them compared, cheers mate 👍🏻
im going with the Manix 2 because it has the same materials, but Knife Center sells it for 120 bucks in 2021, and the others are wayyy more. PM2 has flown up to 170! and don't even ask about the Shaman. I really don't understand Spyderco's pricing. I could say the same about Benchmade, but thats no excuse. These brands are making Hogue a very compelling brand to buy these days.
I dropped my manix LW in BD1 steel from a ten foot ladder onto a concrete floor, and the tip rolled but did not chip. I was impressed, and able to easily sharpen it back to looking normal.
My knee jerk reaction when you posted on Instagram was PM2 but now that I think about it more the manix could include the light weight and that was my first spyderco. Also I just got the dlt trading manix with the milled liners and I like that knife more than I could have guessed. I like the belly on the pm2 and how light it is for the size. I think a person needs all 3 (or 4 get a LW manix) and see what fits you best.
I like the para 3 better. I think it's better for edc and will easily fit into a shirt pocket. My second favorite spyderco for edc is the sage 5 LW. It saves weight and has metal liners.
I used to not really care about Spyderco. That was until I bought a para 3. Being a knife collector, no collection would be complete without at least one Spyderco. My Para 3 sold me on the brand. I purchased a Military S110V the very next day and just last Saturday (10/4/21), my Paramilitary in S110V arrived. I have a hard time choosing between the two compression lock equipped knives. I do know I'm now a fan of the brand and the PM2 is one of my all-time favorite knives even though I cut my right ring finger on it just last night (10/5/21). 😂😂😂
As a lefty, the Manix 2 is the easy choice for me. Still hoping to find a lefty PM2 at some point and would also buy a lefty Shaman if they ever make one.
I like the comparison to athletes and would say that the Shaman is a linebacker, the PM2 a wide receiver and the Manix a fullback. I love my Manix 2 BTW.
I have every version of the PM2, all except two of the Manix and now the Shaman so I'm a fan of the three but I have to say the Shaman has become my favorite Spyderco, no ball bearing flying (Manix) and no lanyard tube (PM2). You hava a better purchase with the Shaman being a large blade it's ergonomic to allow to do any detailed job. Love em all but the Shaman is my personal favorite
I own PM2 in orange, and it's been my daily carry for environmental work for 5 years. Has been a champ for fieldwork and camp tasks. Excellent knife for food prep. Has proven very strong with limb cutting and kindling prep. My knife scales are chamfered and make the knife more comfortable to work with. Definitely HoF knife. My complaints are few. It is a bit big for front pocket carry, and it is a formidable blade requiring a bit more caution during use.
I own the Shaman and the manix 2 and you're absolutely right. These are the best knives on this planet for me. No fancy scifi estatics but hardcore use knives. I have nightmares because i never can choose between the two. I can't choose a favorite so i switch both to my pocket every week 😂 And don't say there pricey because they will last a lifetime and beyond
I am so happy to own all three, normal shaman, Spy27 lw manix 2 and jungle wear fat carbon M4 PM2. I started with a standard VG10 Delica and it quickly led me down a rabbit hole.
I love my PM2. One vote for the Manix 2 is that you can get it in maxamet steel if you are going to be cutting things all day. But both the PM2 and the Manix 2 come in S110V versions that are pretty affordable
1. Shaman 2. Manix 2 3. PM2 Is it sacrilegious to say I'm not that big a fan of the pm2? I've owned some and sold them all. I find it uncomfortable when using it for any length of time. The edges of the scales are too sharp. Much prefer the Manix. I have an all black, s30v, g10 model, a carbon fiber, cruwear (my favorite), and a Manix 2 xl. But the Shaman is the winner. Most comfortable in hand. I was lucky enough to buy my Shaman when they first came out for $150. Makes me love it even more.
Always preferred the Manix 2 over the PM 2 & 3. Never developed a love for the PM’s but, they are handy blade’s nonetheless. Personally, I think the Shaman and Yojimbo 2 are the best models hands down.
@21:50 it’s a pet peeve when people do reviews and open and close their knives like this. Nobody shows the damn action anymore. It’s like a lost art. At least this guy shows it a few times. Some reviewers never ever do it.
I've been wanting to try out the Shaman for a long time. Trying to get rid of my Manix 2 to make room for something else and the Shaman just might be it still not sure though. Great video 👍
I just bought the manix 2 lightweight in m4 as an impulse buy. It will be my first spyderco, and I hope I like it. Looking for something as an EDC that doesn't crowed my pocket and operates easily.
I prefer the PM2 as a lefty. Why? Because Spyderco makes a left handed version. I also like the fact that it is lighter than the other two. The Manix 2 is not as easy to undeploy than the PM2-the spring release being pretty tight on the Manix. The Shaman is the worst by far to close for a lefty.
Both the PM2 and the Manix is in the shopping cart, out of the cart, back in again, out again... I just wind up buying something else. Definitely interested in the Para 3 lightweight, whenever the hell that comes out. Probably next year.
Just got my Jutland and I'm loving it. You're video on that knife inspired me to purchase that knife. I also have a Para Military 2 on the way. If I like it I might pick up a Manix 2 XL in Cruwear or a Shaman in S30V. Thanks for the videos. I am relatively new to the knife game. So your channel really helps. Please let me know if you prefer Cruwear or S30V? And I am loving the ELMAX on the Jutland btw. Until recently my go (favorite knife) has always been my Riffle. Which I still love btw. But the ELMAX is honestly a much better steel so far.
I just picked up a para 3. My first spyderco. The manix will definitely be my second lol. I wish I would’ve discovered it first as a lefty oh well guess I’ll have to have both lol finding it in stock is my issue currently though
What about the manix 2 xl? What do you think about it? I recently got one and am kinda debating getting the regular size also. Maybe youve talked about the manix 2 xl but not sure thanks tho.
I have the manix 2 with the limited edition M4 steel and a set of flytanium copper scaled on it. I absolutely adore it, it's my duty knife as an EMT. The shorter blade has been useful to me, since I've jammed the knife into a tree to use as a foothold during heavy rescue ops and the knife doesn't give a crap at all. But I kind of hate it as an EDC knife. It's just so tall when it's closed that it takes up a ton of pocket real-estate. And annoyingly the flytanium scales lose the ability to move the clip to the other side, and with the curve of the knife, with flytanium scales it basically becomes a left-pocket only blade. I have decided I need a new EDC knife for when I want something a little tougher than my CRKT CEO (a little blade I abjectly love for going out and having something that is very long and useful but doesn't terrify people) and I've settled on the smock. Weirdly, spyderco won't sell the automatic rescue knife to EMT's. They say there's a federal restriction - only police, military, and paramedics (EMT-P to my current EMT-B) no fire or "regular" EMS. But Benchmade will sell me their automatics as an EMT, and they are legal for me to use on duty in WA state. But I do get a 50% discount on spyderco's website as an EMT, so I'm not too upset. Ordered the Shempp bowie at the same time just for kicks.
Metal, not sure you will see this. I have never owned a syderco, but have been thinking about it. With the price of a regular PM2 at 170 and a regular Manix 2 at 140, are they still recommendable? The new prices have been deterring me. I would love to hear your thoughts!
Only you can decide what's worth it. Will a $13 Milwaukee fastback from home Depot do the same things? Yes. But will you be supporting American workers, have higher quality materials, and longer edge holding throughout the day? Nope. You get what you pay for, and Spyderco's ergos and functionality is something you are also paying for that are the best in the business
Manix 2 is my favorite Spyderco knife, probably because I'm so used to the Axis lock on my Benchmade knives. I liked the Manix 2 so much that I got the lightweight (Spy27) version which is not a favorite. I could never get the lightweight version to loosen up, and I'm not a fan of the FRG scales. I don't own a Shaman but it's next on my wish list.
@@gwailotus9154 Manix fits my hand like a glove, better than the pm2. The pm2 handles are squared off at the edges and can become uncomfortable with extended use. The manix has a more robust blade, especially at the tip. I don't think the pm2 is a bad knife and I probably would have kept it but I needed to free up some money to buy some other knives. Down the line I may up purchasing another. But I have to say that once I held the manix, it made the pm2 pale by comparison. Liked it so much I ended up buying the g10/s30v dlc coated blade model and then got a satin cruwear blade, g10 model as well. Also have a manix 2 xl which is a pocket sword. I will add that as impressed as I am with the manix, the Shaman is my favorite spyderco. Hope this helps.
I'm really looking for a good, quality knife that I can feel good about paying more than I've ever paid before for one... I'd love a Benchmade Super Freek, but just can't justify the $225 asking price. I am also looking at the Spyderco Manix 2XL as I really feel it'd be best quality for price and the outcome I'd expect from it... A great knife that'd stand up to any type of chores I can throw at it. But now I'm leaning towards this one of a kind Para 2 which is almost exactly like the Manix 2XL. And I'm feeling pressured cuz I'm afraid ill be late again (Doug Ritter RSK-MK1 G2 with the Carbon Fiber, by the time I realized buying black accessories for purple gmascus would cost as much as the Carbon Fiber they were gone) to the party on the one of a kind Para 2. So, input appreciated... Manix 2XL, Para 2 one of a kind, Ritter RSK-MK1 G2 purple gmascus...
They should make a Shaman XL version. I would Totally be on board of an XL version of the Shaman with a 3.75" - 4.25" Blade Length. Right now, my Spyderco Manix 2 XL is one of my FAVORITE E.D.C. Knives.
I want a shaman with the manix lock mechanism but a 3 1/4” blade partially serrated and with a deep carry pocket clip. That would be the perfect spyderco and currently every spyderco I look at has a flaw I don’t like. The shaman,Manix 2 and Native are probably the closest with the exception the native only has the compression lock on the “lil” version.
My history with Sypderco's is the same as yours, at first I wouldn't consider them because I thought they were so ugly. I was playing with my Burple Para 2 and M4 Shaman, which was in my pocket today, while watching your vid for entertainment value. A Manix 2 is in my future. I would love to see a sprint run hollow grind Shaman in fluted carbon fiber, nice vid.
after fiddling around with all three, I'd like a thin aluminum/ti scaled shaman with melted edges, a thicker blade with PM2 surprised pelican face shape, and a ball bearing lock.
My first spyderco knife was the manix 2 lw I fell in love then I got the paramilitary 2 and 3 the 2 isn't my favorite over the 2 my para 3 has equal carry to my manix 2 lw I really love those two knives
I would say go with whichever knife makes you happy. I'll also add that I recently ended up removing the copper scales from my Manix 2 and going back to g10. The copper scales look great, but they're so heavy. Dont let me dissuade you though!
Hey mc old video but looking for information. I was looking for ti hardware for the manix but I can’t find any. I was wondering if pm2 hardware is the same except for the locking system being different of course
I'm sure someone already pointed this out, but the manix is thinner behind the edge than the pm2. also, there is no excuse for that pronunciation of _shaman_
I have numerous spydercos but especially the PM2 and Manix2 g10 and blue lightweight. I don’t like the manic as much carrying due to the measurement going from the back of the knife toward the back of the blade when closed. It takes up a lot of pocket space. I may sell them and purchase something else. The PM2 is regular edc, native 5 lightweight more covert carry.
The Shamen looks like a hunting knife to me, I’m no expert but that’s what I reckon, that’s why I love the design, I’ve got loads of Spydercos (Para 3 is my all time favourite EDC) but I just love the way the Shamen looks different to all mine plus I really love the scales.
Spyderco is an acquired taste. I used to think they were unattractive, but over time, the designs now appeal to me. When you have several different variants of the same knife, are the differences color and type of steel only?
Usually. Sometimes you'll get a different handle material, and on rare occasions, a different lock type. But ya usually just color of g10/steel are different.
Just weighed my cruwear military, 4.44 oz. My s90v carbon fiber military that I lost fishing was lighter than that. My k390 endura that I just got inthe mail today is 3.25 oz. I guess Im saying that I dont need k390 or cruwear, i dont need a knife to be light. But I do want these features. So thats what I will be buying.
Since I'm a lefty I was going to buy a Manix 2 until I found out about the pm2 LH, love my pm2 LH. They don't make a left hand version of the Shaman so it's a no go for me.
How long does it take to break in the PM2? 3 days of flipping and a few hundred flips and the lock & detent seem to have only slightly loosened up and my thumb, index, and middle finger are all raw from trying to flip this thing open. How much longer or how many flips must it take to get easy manipulation of this knife?
You might add a little lube to the detent ball and see if that helps. After a couple of weeks, if it hasn't loosened up, I'd adjust the pivot a little tiny bit. At some point, the detent ball should wear in. Sometimes it just takes a while.
Metal Complex Thanks. I’ll try a lubricant. The pivot is not the problem tho. If I really force the compression lock in, the blade free falls pretty nicely.

Manix 2 is a rugby player.
Watching 4 years later after getting into spydercos recently and acquiring all three, shed some tears when you called out the old prices 😂😢
2024 Shaman costs $270
"Maybe you own all 3 and are currently sitting there playing with all 3 as you watch this"....guilty as charged, lol.
😉
2 outta 3 sort of...manix 2 xl and Para 3 😂
Me too
Para 2, para 3 LW, Manix 2 and Manix 2 LW here. I also have the native 5 and sage 5 in reserve.
I confess too.. But only 2,Shaman and Manix2.. Just received very rare Manix2 CruWear with Diamond pattern G10

There's virtually no grip left to the G10 scales at this point, but with all the jimping it has, it's still super secure.

11 different models? Are the differences mostly color ?
@@peterpuleo2904 yeah but unless hes talking about sprint runs as well then hes only got like 4 or 5 of the same model.
MrSoup6029 11 of EACH?
I love the compression lock but it would be cool if they would offer the pm2 and shaman with the ball bearing lock as an option. Now that would be pretty sweet
I'd love to see a Shaman in back-lock, like the rest of the Native line.
Ball lock has issues…compression trumps it by far…
Which has thinnest behind the edge….Shaman or pm2?
@@wattsmichaele yes it does but for bigger folder I prefer the ball
@@wattsmichaelewhat issues ?

@@metal_complex That song would be horrible, go make another knife video.
Can't I just make soup? I'm hungry now...
mtn man Thank you!!!!
all great knives, but right now the manix 2 is the best buy at about 132 for the m390 model and 148 for the coated m390 model--both in the heavier g10. shaman in s30v at 203, basic para 2 in s30v about 150. although more expensive, the shaman is a must assuming you already have the others.
I own and adore the visual appeal of my Paramilitary 2. that said... I absolutely lost it when you said "folding Pelican" .... yes it is. LOL
True. Bumping up Shaman’s msrp by $200 in 6 years is criminal.
I dropped my manix LW in BD1 steel from a ten foot ladder onto a concrete floor, and the tip rolled but did not chip. I was impressed, and able to easily sharpen it back to looking normal.
@@ricksmith7232 BD1
Blade hq has left handed pm2s
@@outkast_xiii670 I found one in the meantime since my comment but I appreciate you for looking out for me. 👍
@@TheLegoJoker no worries my friend just saw it yesterday that's why it came in my mind and thought to inform you. Have a good one.
I’m a subscriber since you said “folding pelican” 😂😂😂😂
I like the comparison to athletes and would say that the Shaman is a linebacker, the PM2 a wide receiver and the Manix a fullback. I love my Manix 2 BTW.
I have every version of the PM2, all except two of the Manix and now the Shaman so I'm a fan of the three but I have to say the Shaman has become my favorite Spyderco, no ball bearing flying (Manix) and no lanyard tube (PM2). You hava a better purchase with the Shaman being a large blade it's ergonomic to allow to do any detailed job. Love em all but the Shaman is my personal favorite
I'm looking for a Stag Arms Manix 2. If you happen across one, Jose. Let me know, will you please?
Totally agree. Love my Shaman.
They also sell a left hand version of the pm2
I can't choose a favorite so i switch both to my pocket every week 😂
And don't say there pricey because they will last a lifetime and beyond
I am so happy to own all three, normal shaman, Spy27 lw manix 2 and jungle wear fat carbon M4 PM2. I started with a standard VG10 Delica and it quickly led me down a rabbit hole.
Watching back old Spyderco videos, and then you remember what they cost compared to now. 😢
He thought the shaman cost a lot back then it’s 254 for now
Just bought a manix and am crying hearing these prices 😂
I love my PM2. One vote for the Manix 2 is that you can get it in maxamet steel if you are going to be cutting things all day. But both the PM2 and the Manix 2 come in S110V versions that are pretty affordable
I have all 3 and I love my Shaman best! Fits my XXL hands better. Great video!
Easily the best review for helping me make a decision.
1. Shaman
2. Manix 2
3. PM2
Is it sacrilegious to say I'm not that big a fan of the pm2? I've owned some and sold them all. I find it uncomfortable when using it for any length of time. The edges of the scales are too sharp. Much prefer the Manix. I have an all black, s30v, g10 model, a carbon fiber, cruwear (my favorite), and a Manix 2 xl. But the Shaman is the winner. Most comfortable in hand. I was lucky enough to buy my Shaman when they first came out for $150. Makes me love it even more.
PM2 vote right here
Freaking great job bro...
Opened my eyes to the Shaman... thx
Keep both if you can. In the future, you will miss that Manix if you let it go.
Awesome video as I’m trying to narrow it down to my first Spyderco knife to buy
Absolutely adore my Manix 2 lightweight in CPM 154
I just bought the manix 2 lightweight in m4 as an impulse buy. It will be my first spyderco, and I hope I like it. Looking for something as an EDC that doesn't crowed my pocket and operates easily.
Own and love all three, but the PM2 is home base for me.
I thought it was already out? Maybe I'm wrong...
@@metal_complex Not out yet from any of the popular retailers from what I can see. Waiting to be notified.
Now they are out.
But I have a light blue weight manix manix a three PM3 lt Grey dark grey, and red Nick's with a $325 secondary PM2 Tanto on the way
Great comparison of the top 3 Spyderco's, well done!!!! If you could do a comparison of the popular lockback Spyderco's!!!! Great job!!!!
I wanted you to pick for me. Now I must buy all 3!
I just did this...
Proud owner of 2 PM2s and Shamans, haven’t dabbled with the manix…good vid thank you 👍
Finally somebody was brave enough to say that the PM2 is ugly. My nickname for it is Duffy Duck.
LOL
Always thought spyderco knives were ugly as sin
Its the main reason i havent gotten one yet. I think the pm2 looks hideous, but ill cave soon enough
I love my Manix but I do like the compression lock. I want a Shaman bad but damn it’s almost 200$
In set I'm buying all 3 question is which one am I buying first.
Once I got a Shaman, manix 2, and manix 2xl, I sold my pm2, military, and resilience.
@srg914 - why do u like manix 2 better than pm2? details please
@@abc456f same I have an all black shaman and I love it.
@@The_Koolman Yep...the all black one is my user Shaman. I'm actually looking to sell the cf/s90v one.
Excellent choices- I have the Manix 2XL, Manix 2, and Shaman.
Another great review pal. Atb paddy 👍☘️😊
The shaman is now 270 bucks jeez!
I bought a Shaman earlier this year. It has taken over the top spot as my favorite folder over the PM2. Still love the PM2 but I love the Shaman more.
I like the shaman and will get that one. I ordered the budget efficient and see what that's like...good review thank you.
Finally ordered me a PM2. :P
this is EXACTLY the video i have been looking for. I love my paramilitary 2 and i want another spyderco. I'm thinking manix 2 lightweight s110v
Manix 2 lightweight in maxamet.
after fiddling around with all three, I'd like a thin aluminum/ti scaled shaman with melted edges, a thicker blade with PM2 surprised pelican face shape, and a ball bearing lock.
Fairly new at this hobby… Could you tell me what pocket clip you have on the manix? Thanks
My first spyderco knife was the manix 2 lw I fell in love then I got the paramilitary 2 and 3 the 2 isn't my favorite over the 2 my para 3 has equal carry to my manix 2 lw I really love those two knives
I want the manix 2 with copper or the para 3 with copper handles. Which would you recommend?
I would say go with whichever knife makes you happy. I'll also add that I recently ended up removing the copper scales from my Manix 2 and going back to g10. The copper scales look great, but they're so heavy. Dont let me dissuade you though!
I don't own 1 spyderco yet. I have XL hands and it's about time I take the plunge. Any suggestions for big mitts? No back locks.
ur reviews stands the test of time
Hey mc old video but looking for information. I was looking for ti hardware for the manix but I can’t find any. I was wondering if pm2 hardware is the same except for the locking system being different of course
The Shaman and PM2 blades have .145 thickness, and the cutting edge for the Shaman is 3.12-slightly more edge than the PM2.
I'm sure someone already pointed this out, but the manix is thinner behind the edge than the pm2.
also, there is no excuse for that pronunciation of _shaman_
Deal with it.
@@metal_complex you stop half assing that woody Allen impression and I just might
I have numerous spydercos but especially the PM2 and Manix2 g10 and blue lightweight. I don’t like the manic as much carrying due to the measurement going from the back of the knife toward the back of the blade when closed. It takes up a lot of pocket space. I may sell them and purchase something else. The PM2 is regular edc, native 5 lightweight more covert carry.
How are those copper scales holding up? I want a pair for my Manix 2, but I'm not sure about the weight. Thx.
I love the look of the shaman but $350 vs $235 for a pm 2 in maxamet?
The Shamen looks like a hunting knife to me, I’m no expert but that’s what I reckon, that’s why I love the design, I’ve got loads of Spydercos (Para 3 is my all time favourite EDC) but I just love the way the Shamen looks different to all mine plus I really love the scales.
Interesting, I own 2 stock Shamans and the only thing I don’t really like is the lack of grip texture. 😂
Every time I watch a video of yours I end up getting out my latest knife (fidget spinnerr) and can’t wait to get another one. It never stops LOL!
😊👍
Just weighed my cruwear military, 4.44 oz. My s90v carbon fiber military that I lost fishing was lighter than that. My k390 endura that I just got inthe mail today is 3.25 oz. I guess Im saying that I dont need k390 or cruwear, i dont need a knife to be light. But I do want these features. So thats what I will be buying.
@0:40 started drooling lol
Since I'm a lefty I was going to buy a Manix 2 until I found out about the pm2 LH, love my pm2 LH. They don't make a left hand version of the Shaman so it's a no go for me.

Just got a pm 2 lefty today. $284 canadain.
My manix was 235 canadain.
They are pricey up here.
Damn, now the Shamon is $215-$230 :/ prices keep going up
I had to thin out my shaman a bit. I gotta grab a manix...those copper scales are sweet.
I love my Spyderco Resilience lightweight, but man i want a manix2 xl also
I'm really trying to like these maybe it's because I'm so biased cuz I love Benchmade but I just don't see the appeal
I just prefer the ball cage lock over the compression lock. Also the PM2 is just so ugly.
