    You might need a bottom for that compartment to keep road spray of the wood. It won't last long unprotected.

    • @cadifan
      @cadifan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@raymondherbst7126 No, the fact that it pulls out means it won't seal, the compartment needs a floor.

      100% agree, I would say wood with aluminum panel to match what's under it, then seal it, then screw it down and seal the outside...water spray finds a way!

    Add a heat resistant grill mat under the grill to solve the heat issues with the grill over the pretty wood shelf ☺️

      Was just coming here to say this! Silicone baking sheet mats are cheap on Amazon and come in a billion colours and can be cut to size (in case something about the grill platform dimensions requires buying two and trimming them) and glued down. They would work perfectly!

  • @Karen.cook424
    @Karen.cook424 2 ปีที่แล้ว +53

    The grill slide looks AMAZING guys! How about using a grill mat under the grill to deflect the heat? They come in pretty big sheets and you cut to fit whatever area you need. They are usually used on top of the actual grill grates of gas grills so for what you’re using them for would work great! They have black and a copper color. 👍🏻

    You could use the forstner bit to make indents in your table top for the grill legs to sit in if it’s only a 1/4” off. Those would also make the grill more stable on the table top.

  • @lmaree200886
    @lmaree200886 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    I’m gonna put together some of the things that others have suggested:
    * Protect the wood underneath by using a silicone or rubber mat from a bbq store.
    * Use aluminium foil to line the bottom of the bbq for the coals to keep it clean.
    * That section is gonna need to be sealed up from underneath with a plate of steel or it’s gonna get dirt and rocks inside.
    * Grill needs to be secured for travelling or it’s gonna vibrate and jump around while driving.

  • @delukxy
    @delukxy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    You're going to get a lot of road dirt in the box being as it's behind the wheels, especially when it rains. Line the box with Reflectix from Menards or Home Depot.
    Are you going to clamp the BBQ feet down?

  • @kerrymathers7439
    @kerrymathers7439 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Use a "Router" to cut some grooves in the base to locate the feet of the grill. It will lower it for clearance AND prevent it sliding around when travelling.

  • @Andrea-kx1mj
    @Andrea-kx1mj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The nomad grill has insolation to avoid burning what it’s sitting on. I don’t know if it would fit. Cute little pull out. I would put a bottom below the shelf to avoid all the road grime going on you countertop.

    The charcoal grill is cool but you also have to worry about embers blowing out in a wind and RV spots that won't let you use them for fire concerns. You already have propane in the RV so you could run a line to a propane grill easily, or use a Coleman classic style portable grill or the newer "tabletop" grill, both of which are designed not to overheat the surface they sit on, or a "Mr Bar-B-Q Portable LP Gas Grill" has the look kind of like the charcoal one you have now. You can hook up to your propane line, or use a 20 lb tank, or the 1 lb small bottles. You will also save on having to buy and store dirty charcoal, and waiting for it to cool down/go out and finding a way to dispose of the ashes!

    • @joshr9417
      @joshr9417 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @ThatOneLazyNerd
      @ThatOneLazyNerd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joshr9417 I did notice that. But the aluminum plate under the grill on top of the wood will make it so they can still use coal and not catch it on fire.

    To be fair to the birds, that little opening in the hatch was like a written invitation to build a home there. And why not just put a Teflon mat on the table under the grill? It will add a more grippy stability for the grill and protect the wood from the heat.

    Add another vote to making an aluminum floor to go under the compartment. It will keep the lift out mechanism in so much nicer condition. Plus l would consider a stop so the door doesn't swing all the way down. If you make it stop at 90 degrees it makes another work bench/stand/table if you leave the BBQ shelf in the compartment. Or even under the BBQ table when it's pulled out and raised into position. Plus if the door were to come open on the road it wouldn't be swinging freely to get damaged or try to pull the frame out of the RV. Nice work in any event.

    turned out nice, but would seal up the underside of the hole or you're going to get alot of moisture up in there when driving in the rain.

    Looks good. I would stick with the charcoal grill but place a grilling mat to protect the bottom wood from the hear. You are good.

    Go to Walmart or a hardware store and buy a grate just big enuff to fit,but hold the charcoal off the bottom of the grill. Or make your own out of aluminum angle and heavy duty 1/2" square hardware cloth. Either method will move the charcoal off the bottom of the grill,plus will make the grill last longer because you're not directly heating the bottom of the grill!!

    Hi I don't if you have kitchen foil in the USA. But if you do put at the bottom of the grill before you put the charcoal in and it will help with your heat problem plus it help with the cleaning you can just rap the old charcoal up in it and start afresh.

      They certainly do have aluminium foil in the US (they skip one of the I’s😄), that’s a good idea!

    You guys should look at the Heston Everdure Cube grill as a an option. You still get the joy of charcoal but without the heat issues.

    Get a pizza stone to set on the wood under the grill --- for removable "insulation" against the heat.

    You should look at a small propane griddle instead. You’ll get a lot more use out of it than a small grill. Since you’re here in TX, they have them at Academy. It should fit right in that space.

    It looks amazing. Maybe put tile under the grill so it doesn't burn the wood. It looks great though!

    That's one nice looking BBQ. Guys don't worry about the aluminium, you don't need to put wood paneling on everything 😂 Sometimes the plain RV or metal is perfectly fine.

    I would drill some rows of holes under the grill or a heat mat to help. Maybe a drop down support leg as well.

    Yes, Metal to reflect the heat underneath would help. Or 🔥 fire bricks although they may be too heavy. Possibly both. Look into both and see what works and what you can afford both in weight and price of materials. Other then the heat issue your grill station looks bad functions wonderfully.

    You all should totally attach the handle you took off the grill with magnets on the ends that would originally attach to the grill.. that way you can just use the handle by just using the handle with said magnets on the ends when you are grilling.. then you can easily detach the handle and place it under or beside the grill to fold back under the RV . Hope that makes sense lol but it might work lol just an idea lol love your videos. 2 years in and still watching 😊
